Best Dishes Eater Editors Ate Last Week in the San Francisco Bay Area | Eater SF

"On a Saturday afternoon taco tour I stopped at Taqueria Vallarta and loved two tacos—suadero and tripita—that were handed over quickly; they were delicious enough I briefly considered ordering another to reconfirm they were the best of the day." - Eater Staff

If you're craving incredible tacos, Taqueria Vallarta is a must-visit! Their al pastor is absolutely amazing, packed with flavor and perfectly cooked. The portions are huge, and the pricing is very fair for the quality and size. It can get busy, so be prepared to wait a bit, but trust me, it's totally worth it! Definitely a go-to spot for taco lovers.

I stumbled onto this place today after checking out the new Dubai ice cream spot. Oh my, this place made me miss living in Arizona. The food is sooooooooo good. I wish this restaurant was near my home. Unfortunately, it is 40 minutes from my home. I will be back next time I'm craving mexican food. My tummy was happy 😊 Emjoy !!

I ordered from this restaurant on July 4th, and I’m honestly so disappointed. I used to really like this place, but the food quality has gone way down. I got the carnitas, carne asada, and al pastor tacos — and everything just felt off. The carnitas were incredibly dry, the carne asada was bland, and the al pastor didn’t even have any pineapple, which is kind of the whole point. I thought I was treating some of my Hispanic friends to some good, authentic tacos, but it ended up being really disappointing and honestly a little embarrassing. The pricing seemed okay, but they didn’t break down the cost clearly, so I wasn’t even sure what I was paying for. I will never come back here, and I don’t recommend anyone else go either. This place is not what it used to be.

Google
My favorite tacos are the Chile rellenos!! Super delicious. Also tripas cooked really crunchy with a good splash of the green sauce. Today we ordered the huarache asada… this can be shared along with a taco or 2!!! Super yum everything as always!!

Google
I don't have much to say other than that this place was good. My taco and burrito were very filling and the Mango aqua Fresca was refreshing. The service was great too. It's close by and tons of parking. Definitely worth visiting and enjoying their food if you haven't

This place is by far the best AUTHENTIC Hispanic food place to eat in all of GA! I can't begin to tell you how much I enjoy eating here. The food is always consistent as you can see by the photos. I've been hooked since day one when I bit into a chorizo taco! The tortillas are unique in corn and the portion sizes are just right, not to much and not to little. The rice and beans seemed to be cooked fresh daily! The nachos are now my favorite. The chips come out crunchy and not stale or soggy. The cheese is queso but the cheese does not make the plate a soupy dish but is truly a topping. The steak is beautifully cooked and the fresh Avocado makes the cherry on top. If I could give this restaurant a ten stars I would!

Google
My new favorite taco spot! I love the onions and peppers that come with the tacos without even having to ask for them! Tacos are humongous! Great pricing. Horchata was very good. Food was amazing. I'll definitely be back!

With only 3 days in the Duluth neighborhood we had limited time to eat. Upon arrival we wanted Mexican food and close. We decided on this spot the first night and were highly impressed. The atmosphere was great and the food was top notch. Two days later we decided to return for my birthday dinner. Again the food stole the show. The tacos were amazing and the habanero hot sauce was a great addition to add the right amount of spice. I highly recommend this place whenever you’re in town and we will 1000% be recommending this to our friends and will return as soon as possible.

Yelp
We stopped in to try this place based upon Yelp reviews. No doubt a very ethnic place with tv's broadcasted in Spanish and patrons who are spanish. Just adds to authenticity of a "real" Mexican meal in Ga. The service although lost in translation was good and friendly. We really enjoyed the great tacos and nachos at this point in time.

Yelp
This restaurant is close to my job. It's a small shop located in a shopping center. The environment is quaint and clean and the staff is friendly and welcoming even to us non Spanish speakers. I ordered 2 asada tacos with onion and cilantro. It comes with lime and peppers on the side and I requested salsa verde which for me offered the perfect spice while at work. The food was yummy. It had a bit of gristle in the taco and if that was not the case they'd earn 4 stars. I'd definitely return though to be sample other items from the menu with each visit.

Yelp

Yelp
Visiting in Georgia area for the weekend and I was craving some authentic Mexican food. Found this recommendation on Yelp so I gave it a try. Not disappointed at all. The waitress seemed a little impatient at first, since it was my first time trying this place out I needed time to check out the menu, so I took one star off because I felt rushed when I ordered. The taqueria was located in a nice little plaza. I thought I may be a popular place as it started to get busy around 11:30am. The inside of the taqueria had a lot of seating. The torta I ate, was very delicious. Everything was fresh down to the jalapeño's. If I lived in the Georgia area, I would definitely go back.

Yelp
We randomly found this place in search of trying a new authentic Mexican restaurant and man we're we pleasantly surprised. You can tell the tortillas are homemade and the meat choices we got were so flavorful. Asada, pastor, carnita and lengua. If you have a good lengua taco, I'm SOLD! My husband ordered a sopito, and I got the enchiladas verde. HOLY COW, hands down THE best I've ever had. I've had some pretty good and tasty ones but man the carnita inside tasted so good and the quality of the entire dish was amazing. Our server was super nice and the lady who works the register was friendly as well. We went back the next week and ordered the same thing! If you're looking for some authentic Mexican flavors, look no more!

Yelp
After a long day of driving, I was seeking somewhere to stop for dinner, got lost, and luckily ended up here. Absolutely authentic mexican food hidden away in a plaza but it was stupendous. Their menu is expansive, staff friendly, and restaurant packed. You can tell walking in the place is authentic and they sure stood up to what I expected of them. My picture does not do the burrito any kind of justice as I was starving to eat, but it was very filling and delicious. My party members got a lot of tacos which were all delicious! The corn tortillas tasted fresh and exactly like how my family makes them. Also make sure to load up on their salsa, a great flavor to add to any dish. I loved this place and recommend it to anyone in the area looking for Mexican food or anyone driving through looking for a quick bite. Food is very reasonably priced and authentic, what more could you ask for!

Yelp
Holy bleep! This place is a must visit if you haven't been here. It looks very unsuspecting from the outside, I open the door and it's packed and one group away from being a line out the door! Very unexpected. It's small inside and I wasn't sure if I needed to put my name in but I let the ladies at the back know. Seems like they sit you in order of the line by the door. Again, it's a small place. Ok so, they have a decent menu of typical Mexican dishes. I ordered 2 steak tacos that came with onions and cilantro on a 6" (Approx) corn tortilla. It was absolutely delicious! Put some lemon on top and it was heaven! I savoured every single bite. Juicy meat and home made tasting tortillas. So 25-30 minutes Into t to he meal, this mom and daughter come in selling churros. Unexpected but totally love that, it works. As I was peeking over with intrigue, the cashier lady saw me looking and offered to pay for one for me. So sweet! I was eating by myself amongst tables of all friends and families, I think she bad for me, either that or she thought I was American like the rest of the world. Anywho, I've had many churros in my days but daaaaang, holy you know what! Best freaken churros I have feasted in my life. Piping hot magical, crispy and soft goodness. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
This place is authentic, awesome portions, fast and furious. I got the mixed fajita which had shrimp, steak, and chicken. Big big portion and very flavorful. The rice was dry, but I didn't mind it. The only down side is that, they didn't really speak English. When I had questions about the menu, they couldn't really understand. No big deal tho. I'll take that over bad food and good service. Overall, awesome delicious authentic food/place for a bite. I'd say 8 Gryffindor points out of 10.

Yelp
Come here for takeout more than once and have tried the tacos and the torta. Located in a large shopping plaza so plenty of parking. Walk to the back for to-go orders. I tried the carnitas torta and many tacos. Carnitas torta - The torta was bomb. Carnitas are cooked very well very easy to eat and the veggies are very fresh, bread is warm and good. Highly recommend! Tacos - They were okay for me. I drove about 7-10 min home before I munched on them, so I am not sure if I need to eat it after it is freshly made. They are actually filled with a large quantity of meat! Tried the asada, pastor, tripa, chile relleno. The chile relleno is filled with cheese as well. Meal came with pickled veggies that were sweet and delicious. Also came once during lunch on weekday and it was very packed inside.

Yelp
Omg their tacos were on another level! Stuffed with giant shrimp, tender fish, with tons of fresh and happy avocado, incredibly smokey salsa. The tortillas were amazing, fresh made. The vibe was straight out of Mexico - but REAL, not "pretend Mexican"... can't wait to eat there again. 10 stars if I could.

Yelp
Haven't been to this place in a good two years plus . Stopped in today for a quick taco and I'm sitting at home craving it. Consistent So sad it's such a drive to this place !

Yelp
Wow. Wow. Wow. Pollo asado has made my life better. Almost everything is gluten free. Just get the huge corn tortillas! They are massive and fresh made as you order. The soup is also on point! The tacos are so amazing. The service is always right because owners and family are only working. Give these people some business. Best Mexican in Atlanta. Move over Buford hwy!

Jordyn W.

Yelp
My boyfriend recommended this place and referred to it as "the best tacos ever." The tacos were absolutely delicious and the tortillas tasted very fresh. The server was very nice and quick. My only complaint is that the prices have apparently doubled from when my boyfriend used to go all the time. It is still a reasonable price at around $3 per taco. The taco fillings were great quality. The green salsa was also the perfect compliment. I also wish they had limes, but lemons worked just fine!
google avatar

Ivan B.

Yelp
Pretty solid spot for tacos! The restaurant is authentic, music is on point, clientele makes me feel like the place is legit as well. Definitely will be back to try the tortas!
google avatar

Yelp
I only had tacos for lunch here, but this seems like a place I would come back to regularly. They don't sell liquor, so no margaritas, but definitely good food!

Yelp
Some days, it's Mexican Food Day. With a hunger like mine, I don't need a designated Fajita Day to be on the hunt for fajitas. I ventured out to Taqueria Vallarta after a search on the Yelp Machine. With the price of meat at its current heights, many restaurants have needed to raise prices and/or skimp on portion size. I dined with the full knowledge that this could be the case, but I will have my steak fajitas! At $14.99, the price is very reasonable. $14.99 is the price you'd pay for fajitas pre-covid. So, what's the catch? As of recently, there is none! I had a more than generous portion of meat. This already is a rare find, and I would've been more than content with a perfectly average taste. Fortunately, the meat also tasted incredible. There is a true level of care and effort placed into the food at Taqueria Vallarta. I can't wait to return and try other menu items. Heck, I loved this place so much that I am concerned their steak fajitas are priced too generously. Dine at Taqueria Vallarta. You'll love it.

Yelp
The most authentic, delicious Mexican food that I've had since moving to Georgia from California. Located in an unassuming strip mall in a small (but always packed) building, this is the real deal. Come on a Sunday and you're guaranteed to see bowls of menudo flying out of the kitchen at an alarming rate. Indoor seating is available but you might be hard pressed to find a seat on the weekend; at least when we went, it was jam packed. Service is friendly and packed our to-go bag with salsa, lime, cebollitas, and plenty of napkins. My boyfriend got the chicken burrito and loved it; simple, fresh ingredients in a sturdy tortilla. I got the tacos al pastor which exceeded my expectations. So much favor and such quality ingredients. We got guacamole which was so tasty and fresh. Horchata was classic taqueria style and there's plenty of soft drinks if that's more your style. Incredibly excited for my next visit.

Yelp
Some of the best and most authentic tacos I've had in the Atlanta metro area so far. Discovered Taqueria Vallarta while out and about with my boyfriend, and we both fell in love at first bite. This is a cozy little shop located off of Pleasant Hill inside the same plaza as Goodwill behind Moe's and Starbucks. The ladies here are usually sweet, although sometimes they can be less attentive to us than others, but I think it's because we don't speak Spanish, so there's a slight language barrier. The food is so delicious though, so I've never really taken that personally. There's very limited seating available, so I would plan ahead if you're dining in with more than 2 or 3 people. I've tried quite a few tacos and sopes so far, and everything has been very fresh, authentic, and magically delicious. My personal favorites are the tacos de asada (steak) and lenguas (tongue). I do enjoy the carnitas, but on our most recent visit our waitress didn't get my order in so I wasn't able to enjoy them. No big deal though since I know we'll be returning. I'll just make sure my order is clear next time, lol. There's usually plenty of parking in this big lot, but I would just be careful. We came out to find some pretty cool dents on our car from others slamming their door into our door. Overall, great and affordable place to grab some really delicious and authentic Mexican food!

Josseline M.

Yelp
Si tan solo los dueños de este negocio se sentaran un día. Se dieran cuenta de la porquería de servicio que dan las viejas mal encaradas que tienen de meseras. La comida esta buena no se puede negar pero pesimo servicio.

Yelp
Finally some real Mexican! Moved from NC to GA months ago. Wasn't able to get real Mexican food unless I drove to the flea market that's out of my way and only opened weekends. Came across this place on yelp. The pictures do not do this place justice. It's location is kind of hidden. You have to be on the look out for this place inside the shopping center. Any who. Inside is very small. Maybe 13 tables total. When we walked in, people were walking out so we got a table that was still getting cleaned. We didn't wait long to get out drinks and menus. They also have agua fresca. all drinks are bottled or can. No free refill. Lol I'm not sure if the ladies spoke English but we spoke in Spanish. She was very friendly. I got the chicken enchiladas with green sauce. My friend got tacos. And my son a quesadilla. Everything was great expect for my son wanted the kids quesadilla and they gave him the dinner one. But whatever. Almost everything got ate. And the total for all 3 of us was 28 bucks. But totally worth it!!

Yelp
This is one of my most visited restaurants, at least 4 times a month. Their food is authentic, to the point that when my family visited from Mexico I took them here for dinner and they wanted to go back. Their tacos are very good, the size is pretty big, with hand made tortillas. Their sopes are amazing (probably my favorite dish here, switch the lettuce and tomato for onion and cilantro), the chicken soup (caldo de pollo) for a cooler day is really good, I usually order a side of rice and add it. This makes it feel like the one my mom made. The restaurant is very small and at rush hours you may need to wait for a table or a little longer for your food. Usually there's not a lot of staff, which doesn't help with the waiting... but having said all that if you're craving good authentic Mexican food, the wait is worth it!!!!

Yelp
One evening, there was sooo much traffic and hubby was craving Mexican food. I searched on Yelp and came across Taqueria Vallarta. It seemed to be in the Goodwill shopping plaza off Pleasant Hill & Club Drive. When we got there, we saw it, It was between Nom Nom and Goodwill. It is a small restaurant with about 10 or less tables. We weren't sure to go up front and order or sit down. No one created us. We just went to a table and sat down. 5 minutes later, menus were brought to us. The waitress spoke Spanish to us and we asked her to speak to us in English. This is not your typical Mexican joint where they will bring you chips and salsa ;( I asked if I could purchase some chips and salsa. She said they were all out. I was okay with chips and guac. Hubby got a beef platter. The food didn't take long to come to us. The guac didn't look appealing. It was very plain and I could tell there were onion pieces but just tasted like plain avocado. Now for those who are avocado snobs would say it was a great guac. Plain avocado is not my thing, I want flavor in my guac. The chips were fresh but tasted only okay. Oh yeah, no complimentary chips & salsa. Hubby's dish, he said was good but he was expecting something more. Waitress is nice. People are nice. Food is not bad. Would we come back? Probably not. 135/2017

Yelp
Pleasantly shocked Calibrate your expectations but I was truly pleased I almost all areas Service a bit slow and understaffed but a carnival of flavors Lots of great options at super friendly prices Will go back again and again
google avatar

Clay D.

Yelp
What a great inexpensive place to get authentic Mexican!!! I noticed that most of the clientele are Mexicans which is always a good indication of the authenticity of the food. The food is much better than what you find in most Americanized Mexican restaurants.
google avatar

Lilian R.

Yelp
Great food and price is fair But the space is way to small impossible to dine in in weekends with out waiting a few hours
google avatar

Sandra M.

Yelp
Food is delicious but they need more waitress there is just one some times taking care of all customers, other than that is authentic mexican food and I recomend chilaquiles.
google avatar

Mark A.

Yelp
The tortillas are homemade, the waitresses are attractive and friendly, the prices are excellent, and the food is delicious. I had the steak street tacos with crumbled cheese, onions, and cilantro.
google avatar

Dee A.

Yelp
The best Mexican Restaurant Near the Atlanta area! I have yet to try anything in their menu that isn't amazing! The Waitress are fabulous each and every time I've been there!
google avatar

Mina L.

Yelp
Tacos never disappoint! We always get tacos but today ventured out to a couple of other dishes and of course the seasoning was on point! My husband tried the mixed fajitas, the veggies along with the meats and shrimp were grilled with perfection. Usually these dishes can be overwhelming salty but nope it was great. I always get their steak tacos, for 2 bucks the sizes are great. I'm usually full and satisfied with two! We've never had any problems with customer service here. Always been pleasant visits.

Annie K.

Yelp
I just ate here with my coworkers and this was by far some of the best food I've ever had. I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for amazing, authentic Mexican. The staff was also very friendly! I will definitely be back next time I am in Georgia!

Jvnior B.

Yelp
Great Authentic Mexican Food! The tacos are a big with hand made tortillas. Torta de asada and horchata were great too.
google avatar

Gregory S.

Yelp
Very cozy little place that is reasonably priced and with a friendly staff for those of us who no hablo. The food was very good and served fast. Good experience.
google avatar

Sal N.

Yelp
Tucked away behind a Starbucks in an old shopping center is this gem! I reluctantly found this place because I missed my turn into Starbucks. The lady's here are very nice and the food is even better. I got 3 steak tacos thinking they would be on the smaller side, but they were very full! I'd come here once a week, if I didn't live so far away.
google avatar

Lissa A.

Yelp
I came here because of the good reviews ' food sucks shrimp with cream was too bad too much cream and over cook shrimp, my fajitas the chicken was hard and dry no flavor at all , the rice was not good and salad without dressing I basically just wasted my money
google avatar

Andy S.

Yelp
I have been to this place about 8 times since i'm working down the street. I always get the beef and chicken tacos. The tacos are on point. For under $2.00 bucks with tax you cannot go wrong. The meat is not dry and the tortillas are made here. Tacos come with a grilled jalapeño and baby onion.
google avatar

Suhana E.

Yelp
Excellent food. I came twice already. Prices are reasonable and good sized portions. I love their carne asada dish and get that every time. Yum!!
google avatar

Lou G.

Yelp
You know it is a good sign when you go into a Mexican restaurant and you are the only one there that is not from south of the border! Taqueria Vallarta was packed with a busy lunch crowd, but service was fast and food came out quickly. Chile Relleno was done well, rice and beans were solid. Ole!

Derek A.

Yelp
Los tacos están para la chingada, y el servicio de vez en cuando está bueno ... cada taco a 3.50 con todo y impuesto ... y tortilla fría señores ... así que ojo ... saludos raza mejor coman en casa
google avatar

Martha R.

Yelp
Most authentic Mexican food I've ever had! Love it, everything is freshly made, even the tortillas. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Joshua D.

Yelp
Best burritos in the state of GA. Small place but authentic af and amazing. Tacos are amazing as well. I want to try whatever soup everyone was eating so I will be back asap. Carne asada was the best prepared and cooked meat I've ever had.
google avatar

Kenneth R.

Yelp
One of my high school students, knowing I love traditional foods, made a list of some of the best authentic Mexican restaurants in the area. On the list is this little gem. There is nothing fancy here. Small place, televisions on the walls playing soccer. My bride and I ordered 5 tacos -- two steak, one chicken, one pork, and one goat. ALL were excellent on hand made corn tortillas. All came with onions and cilantro with yummy sauces on the table. The best part? 5 tacos, a beer and a water for under $15! We drove 27 miles to visit Taqueria Vallarta, and it was worth every minute of Gwinnett's traffic.
google avatar

Rachel B.

Yelp
Sooooo goooood. Perfect roasted salsa. Wonderful Chile relleno. Just eat here already.
google avatar

Rowanda C.

Yelp
Sooooo yummy! I absolutely love the authentic tacos! I've only had chicken and shrimp and trust me, you won't be disappointed. The shrimp were really flavorful and cooked to perfection. The chicken tacos are packs with juicy chucks of grilled chicken, onions and cilantro. I work late so I haven't had a chance to take advantage of the lunch special but if your in the area you should definitely check them out!
google avatar

Yelp
Damn good Mexican food.... the portions are bigger than other Mexican places I've tried around here...and the carne asada is definitely seasoned better... Their tamales are so good too!!.... ..now look what you've done yelp...I'm craving Mexican at 7 in the morning ..

Yelp
Stopped here yesterday to satisfy the craving for Mexican food. In Duluth, El Dorado is our favorite place to go and our kids love it there too. But this time we wanted to try a different one. The good reviews on yelp prompted us to go here. This place was crowded when we reached here which signaled of it being a popular place. The interior looked quite authentic, although small, it is clean and neat with the proper decor. Unlike the "wait for someone to show mercy on you until you get a seat" scenario in El Dorado, the service here is good. The staff here is quick and sufficient to take care of customers, so though it was crowded we got a seat quickly. The menu has varieties of offerings on the card, I tried the chicken Mole while my wife settled for enchiladas and kids demanded quesadillas. The "chicken mole" was disappointing for me, it was sweetish, bland boiled chicken smothered with mole sauce that was sweetish( something I do not expect from a Mexican place). I had requested to make it spicier if they can but looks like they forgot. The enchilada was good and satisfactory. Kids did not like quesadillas better than at El Dorado. Salsas were good, but chips were not complementary like many other Mexican restaurants offer. There is no salsa bar here so you have limited choice of salsas. Maybe my food choice was not right or the mole did not turn out good. I saw people around relishing on their food which said that other choices must have been better. The constant inflow of customers indicated people like the food here, although my experience was not so great. Maybe I should try again some other time with different dishes. The server mentioned their "tamales" are popular, but unfortunately, they did not have it left when we were there. I'm also surprised that they did not have "molcajete" on the menu which is a traditional and popular Mexican dish. Still giving a 4 star since I think it might be one time experience of not so great food on this day but they may have good choices which I missed.

Yelp
Hole in the wall. GREAT food. I had steak tacos. The taco shells were freshly made and delicious.

Yelp
Such a gem! All the dishes were very generous with the amounts of meat. The goat barbacoa burrito had only one spot where the meat still had fatty parts, to be expected with barbecue but the cuts were very lean but still juicy. It didn't seem big when it came but I was stuffed by the end. My son ate almost half of his quesadilla. It says more than the words first blush, as he is very finicky, and the quesadilla was rather thick. My wife got the whole fried fish and it was immense. I think she had trouble eating half. It was succulent and flavorful. The fish came worth homemade tortillas, and boy you could taste the difference. The beans were very tasty also. My wife usually abstaining from them but she was nibbling at the end. The rice was quite also very yummy once my son stopped eating and I got to try The establishment was clean and very pleasant. The wait help spoke English very well and there was no barrier to ordering at all. All and all I highly recommend stopping by. It's in the strip mall with the goodwill
