The Best Restaurants Around Houston’s NRG Stadium | Eater Houston

"This local favorite brings the vibrant flavors of Mexico to Houston with its menu of authentic dishes. Diners can choose from tacos and tortas featuring nearly a dozen protein options, savor tacos al carbon, or enjoy beef parrillada taquitos. Aranda’s signatures include its super-sized California-style burrito and its Arandas Special, a fajita platter served with lettuce, tomato, cactus, avocado, and pinto beans topped with white cheese and tortillas. While most of its breakfast plates are only served from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. daily, diners can score breakfast tacos anytime — all day, every day." - Marcy de Luna

Sorry not this time sometimes it's a hit ir miss on restaurants this time it was a huge miss. I ordered the fajita enchiladas and they were aweful the pics will show you. It's like they grab a cold flour tortilla and just put the chopped fajita that was hard and dry the tortilla not even prepped no oil not soft just bland so I guess they figure by wetting it with idk the cheese would make it taste better ugh No it didn't. I just didn't like it and was a waist of time and money, my husband ordered the enchiladas swisas and those too were aweful it's to be moist white chicken these were like chicken guisado in red sauce then smothered in green sause just the taste was not there either I don't recomend this place was a waist of money for the amount I was upset and I told the lady they were horrible. Still got charged $40.00 these dishes were not worth it at all.

I just ordered, started eating and this is what I find in my food... yes a huge piece of plastic, even the finest piece of plastic I could have choked on

Google
Taquerias Arandas offers an authentic and flavorful experience. The diverse menu caters to various tastes, with fresh ingredients and generous portions. The friendly staff ensures a welcoming atmosphere, making it a go-to spot for delicious Mexican cuisine. Highly recommend!

Google
Due to the absence of service, I am unable to provide feedback on the taste of the food. Despite waiting for approximately thirty minutes while attempting to flag down staff, I have yet to receive any attention. This experience is highly unsatisfactory, and I will not be returning.

Google
Got a caldo de res. 4/10 . Didn’t come with rice . The soup tasted bland. Tiny corns cut in half. Over all just disappointed!

Google
The salsa verde was amazing. I got the sampler platter.. wasn't as big as I was expecting, still delicious either way. The beef quesadillas were super yummy 😋 The shrimp cocktail was great. The only annoying thing was there was a huge group of teenagers being all loud and obnoxious. Couldn't really hear my friend trynna talk to me. Service was excellent tho.

Laura Burke

Google
Taqueria Arandas is still the GOAT. My friend was so impressed with the breakfast. I got a sampler just because I missed all my favorites and couldn't decide. I just wish the horchata wasn't the mix, but oh well.

Jessy Godoy

Google
Ate here few times while staying for medical reasons..very good food. server yeni waited on us few times very good service she is very attentive and polite. They have a very good deal on breakfast. My favorite was enchilada potosina plate. Horchata was yummy.

Yelp
Sorry guys! No picture of my food! lol Mines came first and I prayed and starting eating. I was so hungry and the taco/enchilada plate was hitting on something. Meat was all in my braces!! (No Diddy) My plate came with rice and beans, roughly around $11. Kinda felt some type of way because they don't have tequila!!!!! The margaritas is an already mix and just taste like juice. And they sale beer. But no shots of nothing. Margaritas $7.99

Yelp
Nice little spot to eat when the rest of the area is pretty much barebones. You get free chips and salsa which is a plus and the waitresses are nice. I enjoyed the flank steak which was a 7.5/10 with all the extras. The cheese enchilada on the other hand that came with it was an 8.5/10 which was very nicely made.

Greg Z.

Yelp
I was very hungover and this was exactly what the Dr ordered! Machucado breakfast plate with chips, salsa, and tortillas saved my life!

Yelp
After spending a long day at the MD Anderson cancer visiting a loved one, I was starving for some real food. The cafeteria food just wasn't cutting it and I really needed something good to eat. I arrived late at night with my sister and uncle here and I ordered the fajita ranchera. The place was quiet because it was only about an hour before closing time. Before the food came, I was eating chips and spicy salsa. The salsa was perfectly spicy just like I like it. The food came and I ate it like there was no tomorrow. I always rate Mexican restaurants based on how good their beans and tortillas taste. The beans were standard fare and the tortillas were on-point tasty. Overall, I would come back again. The menu was pretty vast and I'd like to try some of their other foods. Nice job Arandas, nice job.

Yelp
Always delicious, always delightful, always eat one time (at a minimum) here when we come to Houston, Taquerias Arandas has been a family favorite for - we don't even know how long. A long time!! With locations across the state (but none north of Waco, boooo) we see - we stop, we savor. Everything here is good - but a Houston vacation tradition has become breakfast tacos here before leaving town. It's a great way to start the day!! I always get the bacon and egg, and a Mexicana in flour. Yum! But there is no "best" taco here - they are ALL MUY DELICIOSO - and will hit whatever spot needs hitting. Attentive service, scrupulously clean and always fresh ingredients -- 5 beloved breakfast taco tradition stars

Yelp
Food was stale , bacon in my alambres was sour. $19 to throw more than half away. This is the first location on Irvington that I been going to for over 35 years. Sad

Yelp
last time I was in town for MD Anderson I ordered & it was good. Tonight they screwed my order so bad, tried to call line stays busy. Instead of giving me what I ordered I got SEVEN dipps...all the same! Gross, too hot to eat. The poor little meat dish was just as bad. Couldn't eat any of it. My order was so bad! Won't order again!

Gabriel G.

Yelp
Best breakfast special. The breakfast comes with multiple choices and for a very reasonable price
google avatar

Mario G.

Yelp
Delicious food and fast! The service was great and kind. We got the quesadilla and tortas, a classic and quite tasty. The ambiance felt pretty typical of a taqueria/restaurant, nothing too fancy but enjoyable.

Brittanya A.

Yelp
Typical Mexican restaurant service was great and fast. They god our order within the first 5 min. Chips and salsa were hot when they brought them.

mike i.

Yelp
So 40 bucks for this what a joke Old ass tortillas stale and burnt chips and a 12 dollar house margarita (she said it was the special) And burnt used meat on the inside they didn't say hey ur buritto is 12 extra meat is 5 (from yesterday) Dirty and corrupt

Yelp
Came in today with my sister for breakfast. We decided to give this place a try since it had been years since we step foot in this place since the last time we didn't have a good experience, today that changed completely. Let me say this place was nice and clean.. not a single dirty table. The floors were clean and the bathroom as well. Our waitress was super sweet and friendly and attentive. The food tasted great. We had the chilaquiles and huevos divorciados. Five star just the service itself.

Bree B.

Yelp
Omg best burrito ever!! The lady taking my order over the phone wasn't all that nice, but the burrito was big as hell! So, I'll let it slide
google avatar

Emily S.

Yelp
Food was great, fast and large amount. I'd eat there again for sure. This place was recommended by an Hispanic nurse who said this is the only place she'd Mexican food in the Medical Center area.
google avatar

Dae M.

Yelp
I got the beef fajita burrito! I've been to multiple taqueria arandas throughout my childhood, & adulthood. Ive been to over 20 taqueria Arandas. NO ONE, compares to the taste of this beef! So amazing! And you can taste the gravy! I definitely recommend! Best In Houston HANDS DOWN! Fresh veggies, and they toasted the tortilla!! Other places barely cook them!

Jesus B.

Yelp
Overall great food but a waiter spilled drinks on me it ruined my vacation.the drinks were great too good ambience only thing that I didnt like is when the waiter spilled drinks on me.I will remember this memory and restaurant
google avatar

Mabel L.

Yelp
Food was good, but the server seem very unpleasant when asked about the menu. Family friendly environment.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite go to spots when I'm looking for a quick and inexpensive meal. I love, love, love whole fish so I typically get the Mojarra which is whole tilapia. It comes with fries, salad, rice and tortillas. The restaurant gives you a whole in the wall type of vibe but you know those type of spots rarely disappoint! I always get my meals to go so I can't speak to the service other than saying they are friendly when I call my order in over the phone and pay at the register.

Alireza S.

Yelp
We came at 10:30 am and order the food, after they bring the food i fell i was eating yesterday lunch food, lol The food was older than yesterday, how can you make quesadillas less than 3 minutes?!
google avatar

Kem O.

Yelp
I normally eat here for lunch but after today I won't go back. There was some type of chemical substance found in my taco it was so disgusting. I work for a medical practice & I would usually order for pick up. By the time I picked up food at noon and got to the break room at work I tried one taco and I tasted this very distinct chemical taste by 12:40 I couldn't stop throwing up. I got toxic food poisoning ended up going to the Er and it's confirmed some type of flammable gas substance was found . Please be careful and check your order. Please check your food. I ordered 5 taquitos plate I hope no one else gets sick.
google avatar

Erica D.

Yelp
I decided to pick up some street tacos and they were so yummy! I would recommend getting them on Tuesday, because it's Taco Tuesday and you get 5 of them for $5. The quesadilla was delicious and so was the torta, but I didn't know that it didn't come with refried beans. I made a mental note to request that next time. I put some of the green salsa in the charro beans to make them spicy and they were perfect. The green salsa and a little lime makes those tacos out of this world.

Yelp
Literally only good if you are drunk or getting breakfast tacos. Queso is watered down and the consistency of milk. Queso flameado came on a cold plate and was a literal pile of cold yet melted cheese. Manager really didn't give a crap when we sent the queso flameado and told us he would take it off the check and replace it with regular queso... only to charge us for the runny replacement queso. Anything we got that contained beef fajita was absolutely terrible. To top it all off, waitress was hid in the back and never returned to our table after we sent the queso flameado back. We are smart enough to know the food wasn't her fault and weren't impolite to her... we have no idea why she abandoned our table but it was truly the nail in the coffin.

Yelp
This is your standard TexMex / Mexican taqueria and there's nothing wrong with that!! I had a menudo and also an al pastor taco. Overall, the menudo was the standard good stuff. The al pastor taco was OK but not bad at all The menudo was good, though I am used to having hominy in the menudo. They have the standard green sauce + red sauce on the table along with homemade chips and tortillas. Just know that the portions are big!! I thought about ordering another taco but thankfully the waitress was kind enough to warn me ahead of time. There are lots of locations of Taqueria Arandas. It's not a special or unique restaurant in Houston by any means but if you're craving some texmex/Mexican food head down.
google avatar

Maria D.

Yelp
Me and my mom ate here for the first time. We loved the food. We had the menudo, beef tacos, and chicken quesadilla. They weren't as greasy as the other places. The staff wasn't very friendly but wasn't rude either. So I got no problem with them. As long as you give me my tacos we gooooddd. Lol We'll definitely come here again! Lol tacos tacos tacos
google avatar

Ashlee H.

Yelp
My family insists we come to this restaurant every time they come to Houston to visit because the food is great and the employees are just as great. Julia is amazing and always makes our day 10x better. Can't express how much we love this restaurant ( and Julia ).

Amy K.

Yelp
Breakfast tacos were good but not very full. Pastor had good flavor but needed hydration. Says they open at 7am, but this location doesn't open until 8am every day.

Daniel G.

Yelp
worst service ever the place had like 40 flies flying around and the waitress are always Ina cranky mood. never going back
google avatar

Sheldon H.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite staple taquerias in town. Food is awesome for the price. I always get the 5 tacos, which is the best version of a mini taco dish I've had. Their green sauce is the best - I wish I could by it by the gallon. Place isn't fancy, but super cozy.

Kae P.

Yelp
Consistently good food! Employers are ways friendly and attentive! Continue to come back here
google avatar

Sonia G.

Yelp
I have been here a couple of times. I really enjoy the Five Taquitos. The chips and queso are also fresh. I would recommend to the lunchtime crowd as all the items are reasonably priced, flavorful and the servers do not have a problem splitting checks for the table. Speaking of which, service is fast and friendly. The servers are responsive and helpful for newbies who have questions about the selections. I would definitely come back again.

Vzw F.

Yelp
Trash tbh chips stale fajita look old chicken salty. Worst Mexican place in Houston get you some whataburger or some instead
google avatar

David N.

Yelp
Excellent service and good quality salsa and queso. Beef Taquitos were tasty and hot. Beans were also yummy. Limes were plenty and added that tart. Will return
google avatar

Laura S.

Yelp
This place has been here for some years and I finally stopped by on my way to visit a family member in the hospital at med center. The place seemed reasonably priced, clean, attentive staff and good menu. So why only 2 stars? I'm one of those that doesn't want to overpay on menu items when I can go around the corner to another location and pay less. I ordered a torta and taco al pastor and they were disappointing. The torta has all bread no filling. Good thing the bread was fresh and tasty. The marinated pork (al pastor) was not good. I wouldn't be back.

Yelp
I live down the street on Main, and this has become my boyfriend and I's go-to for everything. The food is just that good. We love love love their breakfast tacos, which are $1.50 in the morning but served all day for $2. It's just a simple egg + meat of choice, so it is more "authentic Mexican" than Tex-Mex style with the egg, cheese, meat combo. Also, their quesadilla, which is incredibly cheap, like $6 or so, with chorizo is the best quesadilla we have ever had. To be fair, we are not Hispanic, but the white cheese that they use in their quesadillas..is so good!!! I don't think we've had anything here that we haven't just LOVED. Plus the chips and salsa served during dine-in is so good. The salsa....it's so good. Some things to know: Their service is on the slower side. They do get quite busy during meal hours. We have had times where we could not communicate very easily in English with the service staff. But in my opinion, this adds to the experience and gives credit to their authenticity. Bang for your buck? Amazing. Love!!!!!

Yelp
I came here in a party of 2 on a Friday night at 8:30 pm and then AGAIN on Monday morning at 7:30 am. There were plenty of seats and no wait both times. Atmosphere: It's a very casual Mexican restaurant that has tons of seating. Was not very busy both times I went. Parking: Plenty of parking right in front Service: The service was the only thing hindering me from shouting from the rooftops. Our first waitress had difficulty understanding our very basic English. We were trying to say "we need more time" when she asked what we wanted to order. Our second waitress was great and joked around with us. Food: This is the kicker. Hands down THE BEST street tacos I've ever had in my entire life (I don't count Torchy's cause those are American tacos, not street tacos). For dinner, we had bacon and egg breakfast taco, chorizo and egg breakfast taco, a small barbacoa quesadilla, and the 5 taquitos plate (3 chorizo, 2 fajita). For breakfast, we had 2 spicy sausage and egg tacos, the machacado taco, bacon and egg taco, and chorizo and egg taco. If you can't tell by our orders, we loved the bacon and egg and chorizo and egg breakfast tacos. They were freshly made to order with these prime corn tortillas that perfectly encased the goodness of breakfast tacos. The quesadilla was also SO worth. The barbacoa was super tender and soft and the cheese was melted to perfection. Apparently, at this restaurant, taquitos are not rolled up tacos, but they're simply mini-tacos, which were good, but tbh why would you get mini-tacos when you could just get normal sized tacos. Man overall, the food was incredibly delicious and authentic. Oh yeah PSA they have breakfast tacos available to order all day. We paid $18.69 for dinner and then $10.50 and were stuffed after both meals. This place has AMAZING Mexican food for a fantastic price to provide great value. I am definitely coming back here within the next week because I cannot stay away from that chorizo and egg taco. I highly recommend coming here to eat!

Yelp
Dear Management..IF menudo is only served fri, sat, and sunday, one hopes its made fresh..it wasn't

Yelp
This is a nice little Mexican restaurant just southwest of the Rice Village area and near the Astrodome. All of the prices are extremely reasonable and the food is fairly authentic with enough of a Tex Mex twist to draw in a more casual crowd. The specials are all reasonably priced combination plates, while the a la carte options are a little pricier than I'd like, but still well worth it if you don't want the rice and beans. I've heard their breakfast options are spectacular, but I've never had a chance to try them. They have some excellent street tacos, some decent tacos al carbon, and some nice seafood options as well. If you want Americanized tacos or upscale unique combinations, head to a Taco Cabana or a Torchy's Tacos, but if you want authentic street tacos, this is the place for you.

Mimi G.

Yelp
I always come here to get tacos al carbon and I never had a major issue. Unfortunately, I dined in yesterday and I order tacos al carbon plate and a quesadilla plate for my friend. I found a nasty hair in my plate I was immediately disgusted specially because of the pandemic going on they should be more sanitary I do not recommend this place at all I will never go back!!! The lady waitress didn't even apologize or anything. I'm beyond my experience was very poor.
google avatar

Chad T.

Yelp
We enjoyed our breakfast. Service was quick and timely. The food as always tasty and flavorful. One should never pass on an opportunity to dine at Arandas!

Donaciano G.

Yelp
I ordered my food by phone and when I picked it up and got to work there was no tortillas. Tortillas is what makes the food better. Called to let them know what happened, the lady Saudi you want to pickup the tortillas. I told I was at work and couldn't leave. I told them to check the orders
google avatar

Yelp
Great traditional Mexican food! Highly recommend over other Spanish restaurants in the NRG area. Highly recommend the Combination Patter for samples of the great food here. The wait staff is cordial and fast in service. After being here 20 times have never had poor service; even on a busy weekday

Cris A.

Yelp
I got a beef soup and the meat was spoiled. The soup tasted & smelled expired. Disgusting I will never go back again.
google avatar

Tim C.

Yelp
We've driven by a plethora of different restaurants bearing this same name, this was our initial but not last visit. Really good food for a very reasonable price, we ordered one of their smaller mango margaritas, it was huge and only $3.99. My wife enjoyed the ground beef quesadillas, our son Matt highly recommended the el pastor pork tacos, he was so right, they were tender and tasty...as well as the charro beans.
google avatar

Alexis B.

Yelp
If you want fancy, upscale tacos (and sometimes I do), head to Torchy's or Velvet Taco. But if you want traditional, delicious, and authentic tacos, check out one of the Taquerias Arandas locations! I spent a lot of time in San Antonio growing up, and lived there as an adult, and the tacos from Taquerias Arandas remind me of the quality of breakfast tacos I would eat there! This is the kind of place my Mexican grandfather who lives in San Antonio would feel right at home in! I picked up 40 tacos this morning to take as a treat for my coworkers, and everyone was blown away by the quality and authenticity of the tacos. Even the salsas were a hit! Only reason it's not a 5? They packaged the tacos in groups of 3, rather than individually which made it hard to split among the office! I'll definitely go here for tacos next time!
google avatar

Karrie M.

Yelp
MOJARRAS!!!! Last nights catch was lightly fried and delicious. The fish was just the right amount of crispy on the outside but the inside was sooooo moist and succulent! Service was great even thought we ordered Togo, very clean and quiet atmosphere.
google avatar

Lauren B.

Yelp
This place isn't fancy by any means, but if you're looking for some good, cheap Mexican food, then you're at the right place! The beef quesadillas are juicy, cheesy and so so delicious! Let's just say I ate more than I was hungry for simply because they were SO yummy! Also, the margaritas are big and yummy too. Our meal with 2 entres and 2 margaritas came out to be under $30. We'll be back ;)
google avatar

Cindy P.

Yelp
For the love of God please stay away from this place. I ordered to go cheese enchiladas and to my disgusting surprise, I found a small cockroach mixed in with the cheese. If I could give it negative stars I would. Those enchiladas did not leave the yo go container given by the restaurant until they were ready to be eaten and placed on a plate. This place is disgusting.
google avatar

Rashad W.

Yelp
Seems a lil outdated . Can't mess up beans and cheese . The waitress here look all tired. This will be my last time coming here . Well I don't have much more to say . Maybe you guys can go to Taco Bell or somewhere else .
google avatar

David N.

Yelp
Mini Houston Chain. I grew up eating this stuff every once in awhile living in alief. When I moved over here I was happy to see there was a franchise on this side of town. It's not a fancy tex-mex joint, but their food is consistent. I only wish it was open later.
