"For great Tex-Mex, look no further than Taquilo’s. Start with an order of fresh ceviche, then order one of its signature beef, chicken, or shrimp fajita plates, and pair your meal with one of the rotating margaritas. The restaurant’s sidewalk patio is great for people-watching or enjoying a breezy evening in historic downtown Galveston." - Lane Gillespie, Brittany Britto Garley

We went this past Sunday and the food was amazing! Everything tasted fresh and well seasoned. The portions were fantastic. The menu was $10-20 per plate. We had the tacos and stuffed shrimp and it was delicious. You do get complimentary chips and salsa as well. Their alcohol is good we had a ranch water and a mango margarita which tasted fresh and tasty. Would definitely try it again, you should check it out!

Google
We found this place just walking down around the strand; it was so good! Joe our server was amazing, if you stop by make sure to ask for him! We tried the Tacos Al Carbon and that fajita just melted in your mouth!.. the Spicy Tuna Ceviche was delicious!! It was a perfect ending for our anniversary trip.. definitely will come back when I’m the area!!

Google
We were visiting the area and my daughter found this restaurant and I am so glad that she chose it. It was amazing ! Our server. Diego , was so friendly. They had a lunch special., called Baja, which is what I got, the best shrimp tacos I’ve ever had. They great margaritas that were delicious and inexpensive. The manager Robert was also very helpful ! I definitely recommend Taquilos!

Google
Super good! We are here because we are going on a cruise out of Galveston. We wanted to try Tex Mex and this place has good reviews. I got shrimp and lobster tacos which were super good and reasonably priced. The sour cream was way way good and I didn’t think it was just sour cream, but the waiter said it was homemade! My husband loved his cheese enchiladas as well, and we also tried the churros which were amazing! My husband even said he’d come back just for the churros. My husband also loved the chips and salsa and specifically appreciated that they serve two kinds of salsa and being fresh chips for free. Good service and fun environment too.

Google
We absolutely loved this place, friendly staff greet you and get you seated. Chips, salsa and green sauce is so so good! Drinks are amazing and the food is delicious. There was nothing bad about this place. Just go, you won't be disappointed.

Google
Highly, highly recommended 👌! Food was so good, I forgot to snap a photo before eating. 🤣 And our waiter Andre was top notch! I would come back just for his service. 👍👍👍

Google
We loved our dinner at Taquilo's! The wait wasn't long for a Saturday evening (about 20 minutes), and our servers were attentive without being intrusive. Drinks filled promptly. Table visit from the manager. The best part was the meal. We ordered Taquilo's Grill Plate for two. It was like a fajita platter, but even better. It included both fajita chicken and beef as well as 2 bacon wrapped shrimp. Lots and lots of grilled veggies (including seasoned grilled pineapple, yum!) rice and beans, pico and guac, fresh tortillas. For $39 we were exceptionally well fed. We will definitely come back and order this exact dinner again.

Google
I had the tacos al carbon; the meat was a little too chewy. The beans weren't very good, but the rice was tasty and the waitress offered geat service.

Yelp
Taquilo's is one of my favorite restaurants in Galveston! I love the Ceviche Trio! The ceviche is fresh, spicy with a little sweetness. Just right for me, perfectly sized portions, too. My teenage children enjoy the food here as well. The waitstaff is attentive. The ambiance is fairly typical for a Tex Mex restaurant. I can hear conversation at my table unless I'm outside. It can be noisy outside especially when the street car comes by. The street car hurts my children's sensitive ears so we try to eat inside.

Yelp
When I last came here, it was in the spring of 2018, and my visit was so-so at best. Fast forward to today - six years later - and it turned out the second time was the charm. To think, as I was searching for a place in Downtown Galveston to have lunch so I could take the afternoon portion of my meds, this wasn't my first choice. Two of Taquilo's neighbors were closed because of Hurricane Beryl, so that was how pulled up into the former Stork Club. I said in my last review that service was slow. Samesies today, but at least this time, there were plenty of storm weary islanders looking for respite and a hot meal. It was two-ish when I was here, so I helped myself to the Fiesta Plate, one of the lunch specials. Well, well, well. I misjudged Taquilo's the first time. The size of the meal caught my eye; it was big enough for even two people. Presentation-wise, the kitchen put everything together nicely. The soft chicken taco, the crispy taco, the cheese enchilada, beans, and rice all made it feel like Dia de las Patrias (Mexico's Independence Day) on my taste buds. Sure enough, I was really satisfied with having chosen Taquilo's. I'm a fan of their crispy taco, by the way. It's one of the best Mexican places on the island bar none.

Yelp
We've been here a few times and I finally remembered to take pictures as the food is delicious and I usually can't wait to dig in. My husband ordered the "Grand Mayor" margarita which includes Jose Cuervo, grand marnier, sweet and sour, agave nectar and a splash of orange juice for $9.95 (pic attached). He really enjoyed it. Also, attached is their drink/happy hour menu. Happy Hour is M-F from 11am-7pm. My husband and I shared a medium beef and chicken fajitas (serves 1-2). Pic attached. It comes with two sets of rice and beans (refried or charro, we got charro). It a nice sized restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. We've never had a hard time getting seated (although we usually come in the evening and today we came on Saturday @ about 8pm). The service is always outstanding. One of my favorite hangs on the island and some of my favorite Mexican food.

Kevin M.

Yelp
It's always a good sign when they get the chips and salsa right. It came with some kind of avocado sauce that was tasty too. Chicken fajitas were hot and sizzling. I appreciated that they brought more shells than I needed when it seems like other restaurants force you to ask for more. Our service was super fast and checked in often. Definitely felt valued. She was patient and answered our questions with an obvious knowledge of their product. We even got serenaded by a man playing taps. Pretty cool! Across the street is a memorial that explains the tradition.

Yelp
I was looking for ceviche on yelp and this place popped up. They had a couple of different options, you could even do a sampler, but I chose the spicy tuna ceviche. The description says "fresh ahi tuna marinated in lime, cilantro, avocado, and fresh jalapenos". All of those things were in there with some added tomatoes and what tasted like Cholula. Lots of Cholula. I love hot sauce, I think it just muted the flavor of the fish a bit. I also didn't taste any lime, but it came with limes and I fixed that. It was tasty, just not exactly what I expected. I also ordered the Caliente margarita and it hit the spot. It wasn't really sweet and had a kick. I sat on the patio and enjoyed the area. The server was nice. I would come here again and try the sampler next time.

Yelp
One of my fave spots for Tex Mex on the island! I love the free chips and salsa and the creamy jalapeño dip is soooo good. I usually get their chicken fajitas with grilled onions and it pairs so well with their guac, pico, rice and charro beans. It's also the perfect amount to share between two people if you order the medium portion. Service can sometimes be slow since it gets so busy but the yummy food and drinks make up for it. I like that there are plenty of outdoor tables so you can enjoy the strand and people watch. I want to try their happy hour and lunch specials next, will definitely keep coming back!

Kristen M.

Yelp
This place was fantastic! It started with chips (made on site) and two sauces - a warm salsa and a green sour cream based dip. So tasty! The queso dip was equally special with a slight tang and topped with chopped tomatoes and Corina cheese. I had the classic beef enchiladas which were also delicious. The ground beef on corn tortillas with a Texas sauce. I can't remember the type of margarita, but it was so delicious. Service was great, but the staff is a little loud banging things around. Tables inside and out. The rest is located at the corner where a bugler plays at sunset which was so fun to see. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Rating: 3.5 stars I came here with a group of four around 3 PM on a Wednesday afternoon. The restaurant was around half full and we were lead to a cozy booth right away. We had two servers helping us that day, one who was working his first day and another experienced server. Both were so friendly and really took care of us throughout the meal. I was incredibly impressed with the service we were given throughout the meal. As soon as we sat down, we were handed a heaping basket of warm, straight-out-of-the-fryer chips and fresh salsas. Everything was so good, our group breezed through three baskets of chips by meal's end. We also ordered a QUESO to start with and it was so good. I've missed true Tex-mex Queso since NYC really cannot get it right. For the mains we split a few dishes between the four of us: -TAQUILO'S MIXED GRILL: I didn't try the chicken but that steak was so tender and flavorful. Additionally the heaping pile of onions on the bottom of the hot plate were so good and soaked up all of the flavor so well. -POLLO POBLANO PLATE: I love a good stuffed poblano pepper dish. The poblano pepper was well roasted and stuffed to the brim with marinated chicken. The chicken was very flavorful but a bit on the drier side unfortunately. The refried beans I ordered with the dish were absolutely perfect. Sometimes refried beans have a strange aftertaste but not these. These beans were perfectly cooked and soft. Absolutely wonderful flavor and my favorite part of the meal haha. The rice was just a tad undercooked but the flavor was good. - SHRIMP AND LOBSTER TACO: These are more of a pressed taco but flavor was just ok. Honestly, not my favorite and quite a small portion compared to the other dishes which were absolutely humongous. All in all, though not every dish was amazing there were still some that really stood out and left a great impression. Finally, compliments must be given for the amazing customer service interactions - they really make you feel at home.

Yelp
Craving margaritas and decided to stop by for happy hour! The service is pretty good; our waiter was really attentive and welcoming. It's a pretty small space, so we had to wait about 15 minutes for a table. Super casual and energetic place though! The food is just pretty pricey

David R.

Yelp
When you are in Galveston, you may not think of fajitas, but I do. Taquilo's off Post Office Street is the place on the island to go to. We've eaten here before and the quality of food and excellent service continues to be the best! From the chips and salsa to whatever you want to eat, will no doubt have you addicted. We had their famous Queso along with the other two different dips they bring with the chips. It was all good! For our meal, we had the beef fajitas. I'm not sure there is anyway you can top them. The meat is tender and full of flavor. I did have a "add on" of shrimp besos (bacon, jalapeño and cheese wrapped shrimp). They were good too. The margaritas will cool you off in this Hot Texas sun too. Yes, we were stuffed, but did try the crazy good sopapillas. Wow When in Galveston, go to Taquilo's! Go get Full

Linda D.

Yelp
Crisp chips came with 2 kind of salsa. One creamy avocado cilantro and spicy tomato salsa. Love the spicy salsa! The chips remind me of the now defunct Chevy's in California. We ordered fiesta ceviche and beef/chicken fajita. They are all awesome! Love our waiter Corey, very attentive without being overwhelming, friendly and provided good recommendation. The place's ambiance is like that of a regular cantina. Will recommend this place who like Tex-mex and great south of the border place to eat. Our first time in Galveston from Ca, and pretty happy that we stopped by this place

Erica A.

Yelp
Best ceviche hands down! Try all three with their ceviche sampler plate. Warm salsa with chips is enough to go visit and wash down with a ghost pepper margarita

DONNA P.

Yelp
Haven't eaten there yet , considering between here and salsas , but the salsa that's served heated up turned me off, I like my salsa room temp but not from the stovetop . But everything else looked good , amazing what one or two things can turn you away .

Lori M.

Yelp
Ordered chicken quesadillas and this is what it looked like. You couldn't find any cheese if you tried. Bread and tiny bits of chicken. Terrible.

Julia W.

Yelp
Oh my goodness what a little gem we found in Galveston! We were down for the rally and looking for some good mexican food and we found it! Our waitress was very sweet and kept tabs on us throughout the meal making sure everything was good and drinks full. We ordered a small and large queso for the table and the large is literally a bowl full of queso and man was it good! You also get chips red and green salsa both delicious! I had the stuff poblano pepper and it was probably the best I've had in a while. My significant other had bacon wrapped shrimp and a taco he was head over heels for the shrimp and the taco was big but still pretty good. Our other family members ordered tacos and enchiladas and enjoyed them all the same. I would say my only complaint is that one taco is $5 and that is pretty steep but other than that the meal was great.

Amber L.

Yelp
We had an absolutely amazing meal here. The service was excellent and our eyes were for sure bigger than our stomachs. We had a table outside to people watch and it was overall a great experience. Here are some pics we took of the food we received!!! Everything was amazing!

Shanna C.

Yelp
We love this spot. It is easily a repeat every time we are in town. Margs are great and the wait staff is amazing. My daughter wanted chicken tenders but they did not have any on the kids menu and our waitress got her some from next door! Above and beyond!

Allen B.

Yelp
As per the managers request after my review, I tried contacting the marketing email given by him and after not hearing from them after a few weeks, I attempted to contact them again via the email given. It has now been over two months without a response. Is this "wanting to understand what happened and make it right"

Karen S.

Yelp
I thought this place was great. The salsa was unique and I really enjoyed it. My daughter said it reminded her of marinara. We sat outside and enjoyed people watching during dinner. We had a couple of the sangria margaritas that were tasty as well.

Donna C.

Yelp
Arrived in Galveston on a Saturday and were unprepared for dinner so I was thrilled when there were no reservations required and when I called there was only a 5-10 minute wait. Located on a corner, there is indoor seating (booths & tables) and seats at the bar. Outdoor table seating on the sidewalk. The place was colorful and fun looking. We were seated immediately and our server was pleasant and attentive. The food was a miss though I ordered nachos (hold the meat). There were hardly any beans and in addition to (unmelted) shredded cheddar cheese the entire dish was drowning in liquid cheese. The chips were soggy and I had to eat it with a fork. On top of that, my stomach was not happy later in the evening. Husband had enchiladas which were "ok" and daughters quesadilla was the same. The menu is what I would call unconventional. Don't expect all the standard Mexican restaurant classics. I think this place is just not for us.

Beverly M.

Yelp
Great time celebrating Cinco de Mayo at Taquilo's! The food was delicious: Shrimp, crab and avocado campechano; trio of ceviches! Blood orange margarita! Great service and atmosphere!!

Mark A.

Yelp
Paul is the BEST service !! They are busy for a reason! Great food and good drinks! I had the Chicken Tacos and wife had the taco salad. Started with margaritas and bacon wrapped chicken appetizer. Definitely worth going!

Al S.

Yelp
Food is above average but the price is way above average. $110 for two people to eat Mexican food is too much. Our average for Mexican food is around $65. Service is usually good and the ambience is typical Mexican. I predict they will raise prices leading into spring and summer when the hoards of tourists swarm the place.

Brailee B.

Yelp
So so obsessed with this place. The salsa and second option of dip was amazing. I'm still craving everything I ate here!! Too bad I'm not native to this area. The ambiance was lively and staff are all kind and ready to be at service. Absolutely SUPERB

Steven R.

Yelp
We'll definitely recommend!!! Excellent service and OUTSTANDING shrimp and mahi tacos. The Carna Sada tacos were excellent as well. Hot chips, salsa and queso complementary can't beat it.

Michaela P.

Yelp
Stopped by for a late lunch, fun colorful little restaurant with friendly service. The margaritas, both frozen and on the rocks, hit the spot. The salsas were more interior style, and very tasty. I opted for the Fiesta combo ceviche, I just love raw fresh fish, but only really liked the white fish one. They all contained a bit too much avocado for my taste. Hubby had the Shrimp Baja tacos--simply to die for he said. One kiddo had the chicken tacos while the other one opted for the Quesadilla. Both were delicious and enough to take back some leftovers.

Jo D.

Yelp
Amazing service by Paul! Great food & drinks! Nice outside seating! My only negative is it took a bit long for our drinks & food. Loved it!

Jacque' A.

Yelp
I absolutely love this Mexican restaurant! Prices: Minus the beverage drinks, everything was extremely affordable and cheap! $3.79 for soda Enchiladas plate only $13 and some change. Service: Though she didn't give us her name, Our server happened to be the kindest ever. She was actually the only person that spoke to us our entire time here. I was okay with it because she made up for it. Desert- We had something that tasted like bread with brown sugar cinnamon. See video for reference. You have the choice to eat outdoors or in. It was late so we picked out. Nice nightlife vibe.

Brian B.

Yelp
Really enjoyed my lunch at Taquilo's! I loved how they offered bottomless tortilla chips with two different types of salsa. The red one was ok, but the green salsa was DELICIOUS! I couldn't get enough of it. As for my entree, the El Jefe was a great option and really filled me up. It was a really tasty chimichanga, and the rice + beans I got on the side were great as well. All in all I had a great experience here while on a day trip to Galveston, and I would highly recommend it to anyone!

Nate G.

Yelp
My family and I just got FOOD POISONING from this place. Had to be the chicken since each one of us had that in our meal. Avoid it at all costs

Jessica O.

Yelp
This is our second time visiting and Taquilo's lived up to our memory. The staff is friendly and the food is delicious! Portions are quite large and everything is so tasty!

Shelley G.

Yelp
Delicious mani mahi tacos and salsas are delish! Terrific servers as well!! Highly recommend!! Drinks are a plus!!!!

Damian C.

Yelp
Located in Galveston's fine dining quarter, it's a small eatery that wasn't too busy. We stopped in for only a quick bite. Our waitress was speedy and attentive. The food was "okay". Not great, not bad.. just somewhere in the middle. We ordered the chicken tinga and the shrimp and lobster tacos. My tacos looked like wraps, and the chicken tinga was bland

Wade W.

Yelp
Shrimp Tacos were great. A bit of spice-just right. The portions were very good, if not generous. The kids had steak quesadillas also very tasty and beef tacos were with hard shells -nice and fresh. The bean soup - I don't know what to call it - was out of this world - some of the best I've ever had. Spanish rice, which I am never a fan - was good. The servers were prompt and friendly, and helpful in picking out items, and even offered a rewards program for us to come back. I would definitely recommend sitting outside when the weather is nice. You get the ambience of downtown Galveston. And no review would be complete, without mentioning the incredible churros -save room!!

Chessica R.

Yelp
Not sure who you have to be to be waited on but the staff looked at us numerous times and tended to everyone but our table. Not a busy night by the way, we left. Buh bye

Maria B.

Yelp
Ordered the summer plate, one taco (crispy and good), one tostada (I thought tostadas were flat like a chalupa; this one wasn't) and one large queso chip (stale). Refried beans were very thin and watery. Saw a sign for a Pineapple Express drink so I ordered it and was told they stopped selling that some time before. Bummer! Was told they had other drinks but never got a drink menu. Our waitress seemed new. Restaurant was cold inside. Husband got the ceviche sampler. Too much avocado and tomato for his taste. Well, it was a little outside of his comfort zone but he wanted to try it. This was our third visit. First visit was the best.

Daryien G.

Yelp
The hubby and I took a quick trip to Galveston from Houston. We were hungry, but couldn't decide what type of food we wanted for lunch. Figured you can never go wrong with Tex Mex, so we ended up here ‍ The menu prices were aligned with Pappasito's, which was a shocker seeing that this place more of a Chuy's vibe. Not to mention, it was almost completely empty. I ordered the ground beef enchiladas and a baja fish taco a la carte. The enchiladas were okay, the rice was good and the beans were alright. I didn't really care for the fish taco, didn't even finish it. The hubby ordered a chicken quesadilla and tacos al carbon. When his food arrived, he had a steak quesadilla, opposed to chicken. After a few minutes, the waiter came by and acknowledged the mistake. He apologized and offered to replace the quesadilla, but the hub's decided to just keep it. All in all, the restaurant had a nice atmosphere, the drinks were good, service was great, but the food was overpriced for the quality/taste. They had a really great happy hour though, I think the margaritas were like $5. Oh and the chips & salsa were really good too

Lisa R.

Yelp
Our go-to spot for great margaritas, made to order guacamole and the best shrimp cocktail on the island. We always bring our pups with us, and people stop and share puppy love with them. The staff is generally very friendly and attentive, even on the busiest of days.

Melissa C.

Yelp
July 22, 2021 Met 4 friends at 4:30 today...for HH and early dinner. (1 friend came from Hitchcock) We had $5 flavored margaritas which were tasty. Our food: 2 Chicken enchilada dinner Chicken fajita nachos Ground beef enchiladas Taco salad w/ground beef My friend that got the ground beef enchiladas...she didn't eat them because they were dry, the rice was dry and clumped together (so, both probably old not fresh) she asked for enchilada sauce to possibly help ...it didn't. No go. Taken off her bill. The other 4 meals were delicious.

Samantha C.

Yelp
We stumbled on this place after leaving the strand and we will definitely be back. From the outside it doesn't look appealing, don't let that turn you away. Our waiter was great also!

Margaret B.

Yelp
We were so hungry when we sat down, after a day on the beach, that I thought we would eat through the table. Luckily the delicious, hot chips and cilantro dip arrived, and we inhaled a whole basket in the brief time between our arrival and our order. Ceviche and shrimp and lobster tacos were delicious, as were our drinks. Our server was fantastic. We'll be back!

Karen 2.

Yelp
their margaritas arent good but friendly bartender and prompt service. happy hour is a good deal

John B.

Yelp
Finally! Real deal Tex Mex on the island. If you are a Tex Mex snob you have to try this place. Beef fajitas are fabulous. Excellent margaritas. Fresh tortillas and this joint rivals the best Houston Tex Mex. You will not be disappointed.

Margetta M.

Yelp
Food was wonderful, we ate there two days in a row. Heather our waitress was very attentive. If you want GREAT MEXICAN Here you go ! :-) The fresh fried pork skins dipped in queso... Wow Got to try it The chicken fajitas were amazing. Prices were reasonable, one entrée will feed two. Great atmosphere.

Donna T.

Yelp
5.22.22 My husband and I ate here about 2 months ago and we were excited to bring our family to try it. I don't know if this happens to anyone else but when we try something and love it then bring your friends or family and it ends up being just OK. That's what aimed to us on this visit. The staff was horrible We ate inside this time at one of the round tables. We were seated and we waited about 10 minutes before our waiter came over to us to get our drink order(4 waters) and then another 10 minutes for chips and salsa. (Still no drinks) The service was like this the whole time. We ordered beef fajitas. They were just ok. The beef was a little dry. A few tortillas were over cooked and hard. Nothing special at all. We don't understand because 2 months ago the food was delicious. My family were polite and said it was good but I know the truth. My husband and I will try one more time to see if this visit was just an off night. (I hope it was because it was really really good the first one) Stars 1 service 2 for food.

Victor C.

Yelp
Great service and food!!. This is my second time in Galveston and today we decided to stop here for some lunch. The food is delicious!! The guacamole and chips are outstanding! The ground beef tacos super delicious. I had to write this review because of how great this place is. The lady who attended us was very friendly and helpful. Very attentive to our table.

Corina S.

Yelp
Great little place to eat outside with my doggos! (See pic). The food was yummy! The complimentary chips and two kinds of salsa was unique and perfect while we waited for our meals. Our server was attentive and friendly to us and our dogs. The food was abundant and came out to us in record time. Yes we'll be back for sure

Cindy D.

Yelp
First time here at Taquilo's. My hubby and I had Chicken Fajitas and Chips & Queso. Everything was delicious including the salsa verde! The tortillas (both soft and appetizer) were homemade - so good! The chicken had just the right amount of seasoning and was juicy. Fajitas came with pico de Gallo, rice, beans, and guacamole. We ordered the Fajitas for two and had enough for another round at home. I will definitely be back! Here's a link to the menu: http://taquilos.com/our-menu/

Jerry W.

Yelp
I had heard about this place, and we went diddling around downtown at lunch time, so we stopped in. There was plenty of seating inside and out, so we chose an inside booth. They brought us fresh chips and salsa, as well as an avocado salsa. The depth of flavor in that avocado stuff was amazing! We couldn't leave it alone. We both ordered the Fiesta plate, and were glad we did. I started with the shredded chicken soft taco. It was stuffed full to the breaking point and beyond. Great flavor. Then I took a couple of bites on the crispy beef taco. Again, same thing. Then I went on to the cheese enchilada. That was the best enchilada I have ever had. The ranchero sauce had a bit of sweetness to it that made it the perfect foil for the richness of the cheese. We were both stuffed! The server (Daniel, I believe) was outstanding as well. the food was out quickly and disappeared just as quickly. The decor in the place is funky in a good way, kind of like you had stumbled into a quincinera celebration. One final tip: you have a choice between traditional refried beans or charro beans. The charro beans have quite a bit of cilantro. Some folks love it and some don't. All in all, some of the best Tex Mex outside of San Antonio, and in some ways better.

Vern G.

Yelp
Fajitas were delicious! And the margaritas; would go back to try their ceviche looked delicious.
