Tarántula - Review - 11th Arr. - Paris - The Infatuation

"As a Mexican bistro and wine bar, Tarántula is the first of its kind in Paris and long-awaited. After managing El Nopal, the city’s top taco and burrito takeout spot, for over a decade, the chef built up a cult following among food and wine industry pros and finally opened his own restaurant, taking over a beloved 11th arrondissement bistro. The worn wood tables, old-school red-and-white tile floors, and open bar have all been preserved, but the vibe is moodier, and the menu is more inventive. Start with the blue corn tacos stuffed with wild mushrooms and parmesan or the spicy chilaca taco but save room for the slow-roasted Cornish hen dialed up with Japones chili pepper butter and paired with corn tortillas (no baguette here!). If you’re torn between spending €8 to €14 on one of four side dishes, or ordering dessert, go straight to the dulces and order the olive oil flan sprinkled with rosemary." - Lindsey Tramuta

Mexican food with a Parisian French twist. The dishes are bold and experimental — like raw lettuce with crunchy crumbs or tomato paired with cooked beans, which surprisingly worked really well. The chicken was simple and felt a bit salty at first, but I couldn’t stop eating it. Even the dessert was great. Good wine, good vibe. A fun and flavorful experience overall.

We had a recommendation to visit here and made a reservation. I was initially fearful it would be style over substance, but the experience was otherwise. The potatoes, lettuce, chicken and pork were perfect in quantity for 2 people and each incredible - deep in flavour and texture. The service was kind, warm and quick, and the atmosphere chic and comfortable. This surpassed expectations and I’d recommend!

Delicious upscale Mexican/French food served with amazing natural wine by lovely servers. The ragu was fabulous & fun. The onion is a delicious surprise. The asparagus & the eggs were full of flavor with fun textures. The bar tender was dreamy!

Cool new spot, Mexican influnced small plates to share with dark, busy, and steamy atmosphere. Great selection of mezcals and wines.

Is it good, yes. Is it very good, not really. You dont encounter the french mexican contrast that you expect. Its also not spicy. The decoration is half nice half barren. It has that half assed 11th arrondissement attitude to it, if you re into it. But the prices are ridiculous. The desert can fit in your spoon. This is a 24 euros half cockerel, it comes with 3 tortillas (they re good but what does it add to this dish ?) In a normal restaurant, youd order this for 19 euros, it would be bigger, with complimentary rice or potatoes and free bread. Oh and they re full all the time.

Good Mexican food with a French influence. Would recommend the mezcal margarita and tacos. Spicy (but I like that). Good service and cute atmosphere.
