"Since 2008, this no-frills ice cream shop has been serving an impressive rotating roster of 175 inventive flavors. On any given day, you might see cilantro, cinnamon, lucuma (Peruvian fruit), lavender, or geranium on the menu. But if you’re lucky enough to see the sage on the list, be sure to grab a scoop of this surprising, earthy-sweet flavor on a black sesame cone." - Lena Park

We hiked Joaquin Miller woods and wanted a treat after. Found this gem!!! Not the cheapest place but definitely the best. The saying you get what you paid for rings true here. It was worth every penny. My wife and kids loved it, and the cones are delicious too. Can’t wait to come back. Glad we live an hour away otherwise I’ll be here every day.

I think this place is the most creative in the area for their flavors. They use spices and herbs and teas along with the traditional goodies. They bake their own cones, which are crisp and delicious, but the cones can break or leak. I'd rather eat ice cream instead of wearing it, so I get my ice cream in a cup. That's okay but I can't drive and eat ice cream from a cup at the same time, so If I'm in a hurry I choose another shop. I think they should have the option of the old-fashioned cake cone that's been around for almost a hundred years.

The ice cream was great as always I had been going there for years. However the girls serving me were EXTREMELY RUDE. The one with green hair got offended because when she told me she like my glasses I told her that is sweet of her to say, thank you. I ignored it because I'm in my 30s and don't have time for those insecurities. I went into the store the same day because the ice cream is wonderful and my son wanted a second scoop. Again her demeanor was judgmental and disrespectful. I went in today and the girl with the green hair saw me again with my son and immediately went in the back. Her coworkers with the short straight black hair serviced us. But I could see her speaking to her coworker with glasses and say it was bad to be giving my son a scoop of chocolate ice cream with oreo crumbs -_-. Clearly these girls need better customer service skills and not bring their ugly character to work.

Google
The ice cream flavors we chose were mango, coconut, vanilla and chocolate. We love the flavors and quality of the ice cream. The only thing I’m not a fan of are the prices a little bit higher than expected. Other than that 10/10 ✅

Ayaka Nonaka

Google
This is my favorite ice cream shop in the Bay Area (if not the world). They have unique flavors like geranium and cardamom, which I love. I also appreciate that their recipes aren’t overly sweet. I see some reviews saying that prices are high compared to most places, but I understand that’s what prices *should* be to provide fair wages to employees and use organic ingredients that are good for us and the planet. (Most ice cream prices are artificially low because of hidden costs paid by the workers and environment.)

Google
Molasses ice cream. Oh my God it was amazing. It was the perfect texture and flavor. Not frozen solid like a brick of ice, but a little softer which made it easier to eat on a cone. Not inexpensive. But well worth the money.

Justin Lee

Google
Popular neighborhood ice cream store that is gaining some traction. The ice cream is indeed very tasty. So many different flavor to try.

Sonya H

Google
High quality, icey cold, not overly fatty icecream. Reminds me of homemade from my childhood. Wonderfully creative flavors, and yet their vanilla is simply divine. And that bittersweet chocolate sauce is the bomb!

Yelp
One of my preferred local ice cream spots. The flavors change regularly, so you'll always get a chance to try something new. They do limit you to tasting 2 flavors max, though I think you can't go wrong with any flavors you choose. Payment is electronic preferred (no cash) and they recently posted new hours starting May 2024. I highly recommend trying their housemade, waffle cones too. My favorite is the black sesame waffle - it adds an additionally nice layer of flavor and has the right crunch and mouthfeel to pair with the creamy ice cream. Ice creams are made well with solid ingredients. They can also make an ice cream sandwich, sundae, or root beer or cold brew float. Add toppings to your ice cream for $1.55 each (they have a taste-enhancing balsamic glaze that I recommend you try with certain flavors). You can also buy a pint for $16 to take home and savor your favorite flavor longer or share with others. This weekend I combined 2 flavors in one scoop in a black sesame waffle cone: garden delight (made with fresh cream and colorful, edible flowers!) and sage. Finished this all up before my delicious ice cream even had time to melt or drip down the cone!

Julianna P.

Yelp
Sweet Cream -- very rich and subtle! Lavender -- very prominent tasting Overall the ice cream consistency isn't as thick, it melts easily. The flavors are good and delicious! I got their small scoop which can have 2 flavors for around $6.25. Once I got my cup, the serving is really really small as pictured and it looked like the flavors are split to make one scoop.

Wendy H.

Yelp
One of my favorite ice cream places in the Bay Area! Why? * They have a baby size option (pictured)! For those who love ice cream after a meal but can't seem to finish a small, I appreciate that there's a baby option. * The cones are really unique. They taste like a thin butter waffle cookie. They're mildly sweet with a hint of saltiness which works well with the sweetness of the ice cream. * So many unique flavors! We got Jasmine Green Tea and Black Sesame. Both of the flavors were strong :) They allow for a sample taste of 2 flavors/person. The service was fine--the staff was quick. The shop itself isn't really decorated, but it looks clean. There are some benches outside to enjoy the ice cream.

Scott H.

Yelp
Molasses ice cream. Oh my God it was amazing. It was the perfect texture and flavor. Not frozen solid like a brick of ice, but a little softer which made it easier to eat on a cone. Not inexpensive. But well worth the money.

Yelp
This ice cream tastes irresistible of it's breathtaking flavors! A yummy stunning flavor in my opinion is the cookies and coffee! I strongly suggest that you go to Tara's Ice cream to get this irresistible piece of work that will leave you speechless!

Minah L.

Yelp
Finally got to check this shop out and so glad I did. The baby scoops are the perfect serving when you want just a little ice cream to satisfy your sweet tooth. They offer a lot of unique flavors and I enjoyed all of the ones I sampled: jasmine green tea, avocado, and geranium. The ice cream itself is perfectly sweet & deliciously creamy. Server was nice & patient while I chose my flavors. There are a couple seats indoor and a few more outdoor. Can't wait to come back to try more flavors with their cones!

Carly R.

Yelp
This ice cream is bomb but the two teen looking girls are giving the worlds smallest scoops ever for 5.50. Its like it hurts their wrists to scoop scoops. & they give you dirty looks when you ask to try only 1 flavor. Not friendly nor kind. Skipping the drive to come here from now on.

Tristan B.

Yelp
They always have delicious rotating flavors. I took some friends here when they visited and they went back again the next day to get more of the jasmine green tea flavor ice cream. Delicious organic ice cream. Location is a bit small but definitely is well loved by the locals.

Yelp
Tara's Organic Ice Cream has been on my bucket list for quite a while. That made the experience extra disappointing when none of the three flavors my date and I got was a hit. To our surprise, Tara's does not offer samples due to COVID, which at this point feels like a super lame excuse. Don't get me wrong; keeping people safe is very important -- I just don't think there is a correlation. Customers aren't even going in the shop, so it seems more likely that Tara's just doesn't want to spend money on additional plastic spoons (or use metal ones that they would then have to wash). With limited information about the available flavors, we chose the Burnt Caramel, Black Sesame, and Geranium. The Black Sesame was the best, and it was only okay. My date described the Geranium as tasting like perfume -- not citrusy as the employee who served us described. She was friendly, and if it were up to her, I imagine she'd prefer offering samples so that customers did not have to rely on her taste buds and recommendations. Another drawback of Tara's is that besides one bench outside, there's no seating, so if there's already someone on the bench, you can't sit down to enjoy your ice cream immediately. Finally, the ice cream is fairly expensive for what it is, perhaps due -- at least in part -- to the cost of organic ingredients. Overall, I would call our visit a waste of money and calories. I'd much sooner go back to iScream or Mr. Dewie's Cashew Creamery.

Joseph M.

Yelp
an absolute gem... have to make couple stops here whenever I visit Bay Area. I have yet to find another place like this in San Diego.

Wai L.

Yelp
Top notch ingredients and gourmet flavors. Plus it's organic. Will 100% be going back. Black sesame was delightful. My top fav ice cream flavor.

Rebecca G.

Yelp
Wow! We fancied some ice cream, so my friend suggested Tara's! I was with a small group of friends, so I just went with the flow. What a great suggestion! My friend mentioned they have unique flavors and that was just what I wanted to hear! I love unique flavors! I ordered a small with two flavors: Sage and Rosemary. The sage was unbelievably good! This is the second time I've had Sage ice cream (the other time being in NYC) and it's just so ridiculously good! The Rosemary was also delightful! The flavors here were extraordinary range from Garam Masala to Geranium. The flavors rotate, but on our visit, there were at least 20 flavors and after checking Tara's website, there's oh so many more. There's a take-out window only at the moment, but no samples currently. I'd say the only sour note is that it's really pricey, especially for the portion size. I'm super stoked to try it and I'd probably return if in the area to try more unique flavors, but this is definitely a treat!

Namir K.

Yelp
Nothing to write a book about : The portions are small, it is expensive and the goat cheese ice cream too intense, like eating goat cheese rather than an ice cream. There are no seating places and the whole experience just average. Next time I will pass.

Devi K.

Yelp
I loved the peppercorn chocolate chip! Very unique flavoring and not overly sweet. Fair warning - it's spicy! The dark chocolate sorbet was nice in combination with the peppercorn ice cream and it had a nice rich darkness to it, but it was icy rather than creamy, so I wouldn't get it on its own. The flavors offered are unique which makes it difficult to decide in the covid times of non sampling flavors! My daughter didn't like her peach ice cream, which the shop person had recommended to her. She asked the shop if they could switch it out for her because she didn't like it, but they declined which was a bit disappointing. My nephew enjoyed his cardamom and geranium scoops. Overall, 3.75 stars, rounding to 4!

Karen L.

Yelp
The ice cream cake was beautiful. I thought it would contain cake but it's all ice cream. The writing on the cake was one of the best I've seen.

Rachel M.

Yelp
I LOVE Tara's! When Ici's left, I was bummed but was so happy that Tara's is still around with her fresh, creamy, unique-flavored, delicious and of course organic ice cream. I remember first enjoying Tara's a while ago and enjoying the heat from the pink peppercorn, the comforting cardamom and soothing honey lavender- it was such a welcomed break from the usual traditional flavors and I instantly fell in love. Plus- they have tasty waffle cones- the black sesame is my favorite! You'll see a menu at their storefront with several interesting flavors- be brave and try something different- I guarantee you will appreciate the flavor. Recently I had gotten reacquainted with Taras' and had tried the basil, lucuma (tropical fruit), garam masala, and one of my all time faves- black sesame! Sizes come in small, medium, large. I usually get the medium so I can try more flavors (up to 3). The total with a waffle cone totals to around $8.60 which is a bit pricey. However, I know Tara and her team make their organic ice cream sustainably with quality ingredients, which unfortunately adds to the higher prices. Whenever I'm in the Berkeley area, I make sure to get my Tara's fix. I recommend going for dessert after checking out one of the delicious restaurants in College Ave (ahem Zachary's and Noodle Theory!)

Tiffany Y.

Yelp
**4.5 stars rounded up to 5 stars** If you're looking for unique flavors, you should definitely check this place out. We got the black sesame and the Rooibos tea in a small cup (~$5). They stacked the flavors on top of each other, so it would probably be best to get ones that complement each other. I've never had Rooibos tea before, but it was like a red tea flavor. It was pretty strong, which I enjoyed. The black sesame was some of the best we've ever had as an ice cream flavor. They did a really great job bringing out a toasted black sesame taste. I wish the ice cream was a bit creamier and the sizes were a bit bigger, but I'm impressed by how well they nailed the flavors. Plus, it's nice that all the ice cream is organic!

Viola Q.

Yelp
An average ice cream place. Their 5 spice flavor is actually pretty good! Try it! Would come back to try other interesting flavors. Taste The 5 spice was like vanilla ice cream with 5 spice but you mainly taste the cloves and cinnamon. I would recommend that flavor since it's unique and executed well. Orange cashew and Turkish coffee was also good. Molasses was a bit too weird tasting for me but my boyfriend loved it. Price About $4 for a small cup. The cup is very small lol so this is on the pricier side of ice cream even for artisinal Service You order at the counter behind plexiglass. Only one person so it was a bit slow. You can't see the flavors until you're at the front so you don't get much time to decide unless you take a photo and step back.

Alice K.

Yelp
Stopped by for post-lunch dessert. Tara's been around for years but I never tried it before (I think we all miss Ici's but I digress...). Split medium scoop (3 flavors) with friends. Scoop on smaller size. Appreciate the all organic non GMO, small batches. Unique flavors. No sampling due to COVID, boo. -Plum ginger - nice fruity, balanced the stronger flavors we picked -Dirty Chai - strong flavor def taste the chai -Gluten free chocolate brownie - had brownie chunks but texture off was for me. (Not the same but I'd prefer Salt n Straw's version of gf chocolate ice cream)

Jennifer L.

Yelp
My friend and I stopped by for an afternoon snack on a sunny day, and to my surprise there was no line. I opted for the small cone, which comes with 1-2 flavors in a homemade waffle cone. At $6.70 (pre-tip) I found it to be kinda pricey for the size of the scoops. The waffle cone was good, but Salt & Straw's still remains my favorite. -- BLUEBERRY Light and delicate blueberry flavor that tasted natural with nothing artificial. -- GENMAICHA TEA A balance of roasted notes and a strong tea flavor. While good, I do like the one from Garden Creamery more.

Christina G.

Yelp
A great place for ice cream that tastes fresh and light, with interesting and adventurous flavors, and organic to boot. Pints are $15 so on the more pricey side, but you get what you pay for. They have a stamp card program, but I think it is per visit since I only got one stamp despite buying 3 pints. Their plum was just okay, mocha was amazing, and black sesame was tasty.

Cathrina D.

Yelp
Flavorful! Not too sugary! Their cones are delish! Service was fine. I'm thinking the clerk should have offered us to taste the different flavors since I had some questions. Other than that, she was ok. Ambience is good - a little small but enough. I'll be there again when I'm in the area!

Kevin Y.

Yelp
I'm quite the ice cream aficionado, and would say this is on the lower end of good ice cream. It's much worse than Bi-Rite, the flavors are very dull and it's not as creamy either. I definitely had some nice icy chunks which is a big minus for me. There are much better ice cream spots in the city.

shannon m.

Yelp
I was in the area after eating some fantastic Thai food, in the area, and decided to give Tara's a try. I was intrigued by them being a organic ice cream and didn't have any major expectations but I was blown away with the flavors. I got a cup (not baby cup) but the next size up - don't know the name - of black sesame seed & chocolate. That black sesame seed ice cream was delicious. If I had known it was going to be that good I would've probably got a double scoop. The chocolate ice cream was good too, had a nice rich flavor. Overall, I had a great experience and I'll definitely be back.

Taylor Z.

Yelp
Wonderful little ice cream shop for a convenient scoop or cone! We got the plum and the sweet corn. Both were decent but I wish the corn had more corny flavor.

Nico P.

Yelp
INITIAL CONCERN: I went to buy ice cream and got to the register only to learn they won't take cash. Maybe that was defensible during the pandemic, but businesses need to recognize that there are people in our community who do not have credit cards and bank accounts, notably our homeless brothers and sisters. It's just not acceptable to deny service to those in our community who only have cash, that real and tangible currency that never bounces and which can't be used fraudulently. Shame on Tara's. Until they change their policy I stand with our poor and our homeless and will not be back. UPDATE 5/5/23: Kudos to Tara, as she responded to my concerns by clarifying that they will always take cash if a customer doesn't have another means of paying, and she said she has changed the sign tonight to make that clear. I'm especially glad because I do love the ice cream! :)

Manuel D.

Yelp
Flavors recommended: *Darjeeling tea flavor Flavors not recommended: *Chocolate *Coffee *Baobab Many of the flavors are quite mild, not worth it. Fairly expensive $7.90 for 3 small scoops (medium size). Not sure I would come back.

Alison W.

Yelp
My friend recommended and took me here a couple times. We got lucky and found street parking just across the street. Right now, it's just a window that you order and pay from. Their menu has some interesting flavors. Unfortunately no samples available right now. I have tried the jasmine green tea and the strawberry both in a baby cup size. We had just come from lunch so I was stuffed. It was the perfect amount - just one scoop. The tea flavor was great. And it's hard to mess up strawberry. I would totally get both these flavors again. My friends got a small, which is two scoops. And you can get one or two flavors. One also got the black sesame cone, which I tried a bite of and it was really good too. I tried a little bit of the black sesame, mocha, cilantro, white pepper chocolate chip, and pistachio saffron. The cilantro was interesting - I thought it had good cilantro flavor. Like if you didn't tell me what it was, I would guess cilantro. The white pepper chocolate chip was spicy and I wasn't a fan. I also did not have high opinions of the pistachio sesame. The black sesame and mocha were more normal. But very cool place. Would love to come back to try more unique flavors.

Raghav A.

Yelp
The ice cream flavors here are unique and delicious. We tried the Sweet Corn and Basil flavors and both were great ! I also recommend trying out their rotating seasonal flavors.

David G.

Yelp
$16 a pint. Wow, just wow. Ice cream was OK but nothing amazing. I am amazed this business exists given the prices.

Saloni M.

Yelp
Kudos to a business for existing and surviving the pandemic, also for trying to be organic ....that's really awesome. Right now they're open for window service only you can't step inside and look at the ice cream. Let me preface this by saying i frequently eat sorbet and vegan ice cream and understand it can taste different from regular ice cream. I ordered two flavors - got the Chocolate sorbet and the Coconut berry sorbet in a cup. I could not eat what I was served it was so gritty almost like a granita. It was really hot out and I just wanted something refreshing and light and the texture was just so awful I couldn't even eat it. The coconut berry was less gritty but still Icey and had a very chalky mouthfeel. My friend got a corn ice cream (not vegan) and it was fine, no texture issue. She was really excited about the availability of this flavor - she said it's been hard for her to find corn ice cream after leaving China and enjoyed her ice cream. I am not sure what happened if those flavors were old or had melted and refrozen or something.

Stuart B.

Yelp
The interaction I had with the worker left a bad taste in my mouth. She was cold from the jump. Still, I was in the mood for ice cream so I indulged her. I couldn't sample anything so I asked for recommendations. She obliged and I settled on the Mint Chip. Not bad at all. I had a better buying experience at Smitten a few blocks down. Having waited too long for someone to come from the back to greet me and receiving barely a hello, I definitely can take my business where it's better appreciated and valued. Sorry, not sorry.

Nadine C.

Yelp
Ice cream in Berkeley, California... I had won a free ice cream cone on Instagram, so I drove from LA to Berkeley to get it! It was worth it! Tara's Organic Ice Cream seemed out of the way, but I made a road trip out of it and connected with my friends in Northern California. Parking was free, but a couple of blocks away in a residential area. I had contacted the owner with my arrival time and day - Saturday, July 27 around 1pm was the goal. I got there on time and showed my Instagram messages to the worker. She cheerfully helped me select two flavors for my cone. I tasted a few samples and finally decided on Spiced apple and Mexican chocolate on a SESAME cone - wow! Mmm! Delicious! Note: there's no restroom available. I went to the liquor store down the block. Thank you to Tara's for the yummy treat! If I was in Berkeley again, I'd return for more unique flavors!

Maribel G.

Yelp
It's good ice cream, but it's stupid expensive and you get very little of it. They have really unique flavors like cardamom, bay laurel, rooibos tea, sweet corn, etc.... and that's fun but unique flavors are not enough to make up for taste and comically small portions. The family ahead of us ordered a bunch of smalls (2 flavors at $5.05) and the cup was teeny tiny with two little scoops. Like Costco samples. I went for their medium at $7.40 for 3 flavors. Cardamom: definitely tasted like cardamom but too subtle, not a lot going on Strawberry: I remember thinking "This is delicious but I won't remember it in 5 minutes" Coconut: my favorite; most interesting without being too sweet Look, it's good quality ingredients and it's not bad ice cream. I'd happily eat a gallon of the coconut ice cream, except it would set me back $175. At their prices they really are claiming "We are the best ice cream you've ever had." I wholeheartedly declare: no you're not. Lastly, the guy working the counter was alone and it was obvious he was letting the stress of the long line get to him. When I asked what might go nicely with cardamom, he was annoyed. I'm sorry stupid women like myself ask you this question all day long. It's an ice cream shop! And you work there! He then asked how long we stood in line so I told him we waited 25 minutes and he said "I'm moving as fast as I can folks." I felt bad for him because he was clearly tired and stressed. Even so, and especially because of the long wait time, customers deserve nice and friendly service.

Letitia L.

Yelp
White Nectarine: 4.5 stars Chinese Five Spice: 4 stars Tangy plum Lemon Curd: 4 stars Refreshing and light but not high on flavour Tamarind Agave sorbet: 5 stars I love tamarind. Sesame cone: 4.5 stars

Katie Y.

Yelp
Really good ice cream - you can taste the quality. I got a small cup with chocolate and coconut, and both were fantastic. It is really expensive ($5.8 after tip for a small), so even though I live within walking distance I'm not going to make this a regular habit. Glad I tried it!

Nadia T.

Yelp
Ice cream is good. Nothing special though. The only thing I have to say is the fact that we waited kinda long just for 2 medium cups of ice cream. There were 3 customers behind us in line who left because of how long it took for us to get our ice cream. Other than that the flavors we tried were good but almost very faint in flavor and the portions are extremely small for the price.

Noreen M.

Yelp
List of flavors were very diverse. I had a root beer float. There was much more root beer soda in the float than there was actual ice cream. Overall it was good.

Susan K.

Yelp
The small sizes are perfect for folks who want a small taste of something sweet snd delicious. Good prices too.

Sagruilla P.

Yelp
I love their not-too-sweet ice cream flavors--Earl Grey, cardamom, lavender. The ice cream is always fresh tasting, not grainy or crystalized or so greasy the tongue feels coated. The balance is perfect. The cones are also fresh and homemade. I really enjoy the black sesame one, and it complements the floral and herbal ice cream offerings. They have baby scoops for a smaller and wiser option. Right now the shop is closed off by a bankers window at the door, so you and the person taking your order stay safe. There isn't really a lounging area or a bench to eat the ice cream outside, and it felt weird eating and walking along a busy sidewalk, so we took it around the corner to enjoy in a quiet residential area.

Adriaan T.

Yelp
Surprisingly good given the store front. My daughter always forces me to have ice cream chocolate, which I don't like. This is the best chocolate ice cream I had in the bay. So the best chocolate ice cream for haters of chocolate ice cream

Claudine V.

Yelp
On a warm afternoon I was craving for good ice cream. Why not treat myself? So I asked the lovey to drive us to this place after IL Fornaio. We found parking right in front of the store which was bonus! I tried jasmine , lavender, coconut and strawberry and I chose a small cup with two flavors- strawberry and coconut on top. Both were delish. Flavors were on point and clean. Perfect treat for a hot day! Trust!!

Shayla B.

Yelp
Sold. Yep... I'm sold on Tara's! I never knew that organic ice cream and sorbet could be so dangerously good until I tried them here. The ice cream here is some of the most refreshing that I've had! I can honestly taste the difference between this ice cream compared to the other ice cream parlors on the block. First; the FLAVORS! Talk about unique! Every time that I've stepped foot in here, I'm always shocked by the amount of versatile flavors that they have on deck. I often tend to try something that I've never even heard of before, and it always ends up tasting incredible! I've never really thought of myself as a sorbet type of gal, but the sorbets that I've tried here are creamier than your average. Not sure how they do it, but the consistency of their sorbet is just A+ creamy! P And don't even get me started on their ice cream! Simply delicious! They will let you sample as much as you like which is great for a piggy like me! But this is a place where I try really hard NOT to sample everything because I end up liking it all and then it makes it tougher for me to decide on only one flavor. Their banana ice cream is addictive! It sounds simple but it tastes amazing. My first time ever having a sesame seed cone was here. Now, I'm trying to figure out why it has taken me so long to discover this goodness?! I admire their use of compostable cups and spoons. Eco-friendly is the way to go nowadays, and they are really doing it with a bang. I have to draw attention to their excellent customer service! Every single time that I've been in, I've been treated with the utmost sincerity! Bright smiles and warm welcomes are in full force, and you can't help but to return the favor. Tara's has easily become one of my favorite ice cream spots in Berkeley! So glad to have this gem so close to where I work so that I can indulge in their yummy ice cream on the regular.

Karyn P.

Yelp
The ice cream is good quality, but not astonishing. Mayan chocolate and blueberry were the probably the flavors that were somewhat worth the money and time. The other flavors aren't. I really want others to be aware of this shop's portions. Probably the smallest I've ever seen for our purchase, making it hardly an enjoyable experience. We bought a large for ~$10.50, which looked like the size of a small for normal ice cream parlors, to split between three people. The pictures here are incredibly misleading. Each of us got ice cream that could barely fit in a cold medicine cup. Think about it. Safeway sells a tub of ice cream for $4.50. CREAM gave double Tara's "large" portions for $4.50. Regardless of quality, it's a crime to call that bowl of ice cream a large and charge $10.50 for it. I have no interest in coming here again and would not recommend it even to those with a larger budget--you could probably find something just as good for cheaper. I'd rather invest the time and money in making my own ice cream flavors.

Allison W.

Yelp
I've been living a block away from Tara's for almost a year and I can't believe I just discovered this gem! I've seriously been 3+ times in the last two weeks. Their seasonal peach ice cream is sublime.

Olivia C.

Yelp
This review is for pre-covid and after Covid It hurts me to see whenever this place gets bad reviews because I don't think they fully appreciate nor understand how unique this place is. The flavors offered here are flavors that you can't get anywhere else as well as the quality and yes the portion may seem small, but it's definitely satisfying. Whenever my friends from out of town visit I always try to bring them here because it's just that good and whenever they come back they always ask to go to this place again! Not a big lover of ice cream but this place is always amazing!!! I'm definitely going to miss is when I leave this place ):

Yelp
I love ice cream and boyfriend and I were around the area so we stopped by! Got the back sesame and sweet cream on a waffle cone. It was alright but melts way too quickly. Unique flavors and parking was not bad at all. I would come back only if around the area.

Yelp
**COVID related: -Good: service at door, staff wears masks, contactless payments/1 touch if card -Bad: crowd control may need to improve -- wasn't an issue during visit/drive-bys, but summer is coming Decent Covid protocol -- we felt safe. One party orders, pays, and receives their order. The next party lines up to the right of the door. No other spots marked, but not usually a line IME -- might be one party in front of you or one after you. FOOD -- we've been here over the years. Tara's is a local staple -- especially if ice-cream crawls are still a thing at Cal. Through the years, I've had their ice cream sandwiches and milkshakes, but what keeps me coming back is their ice cream. There is always a great range of flavors -- from classics like vanilla to a kitchen sink worth of unique herbs and spices. -One of my favorite combos: a scoop of strawberry and a scoop of chocolate. Flavors are seasonal, so it may be strawberry balsamic w/Mayan chocolate. -Alternatively, I get their tea with some other unique flavor. My last order was a scoop of Jasmine Green Tea and Cookies and Cream on a black sesame cone TIPS -- -no tastings right now, but it's all good 'cause everything is amazing -non-dairy options are tasty as well -not too sweet, IMO. Ask for which flavors a least sweet if you're sensitive -swing by after a bagel sandwich at Boichik's CONCLUSION -- Honest flavors shine. Giddy licks on any day. Bliss found at Tara's

Yelp
Love Tara's! The ice cream is 5* and offers unique flavors. If you like Black Sesame, coconut, or green teas...Tara's is great with expansive flavor profiles. I stock up on my favorites and really love strawberry as well. This is the Bay Area so if you're gonna complain about price points just eat at home. Every ice cream joint is pricy. So what?! You're paying for the privilege to eat out and that won't come cheap in one of the priciest areas of the world. To fault the small business (which doesn't have it easy) is crazy to me. The ice cream has quality on another level and is a must try if you're in the area.

Yelp
There's so many unique flavors here, like butternut squash, white pepper chocolate chip, and garam masala. I really like how the spices bring out the flavors and how each flavor has its distinct taste. I love how creamy the ice cream is! In addition to ice cream, they have sorbets and gluten-free ice cream brownie sandwiches, not to mention their gluten-free brownie topping! They even have black sesame cones! Each flavor is hand-crafted which ensures the highest quality ice cream! They use organic cane sugar, local dairy, seasonal fruits, and no emulsifiers or stabilizers. Pricing is decent and the staff is very friendly-they let me sample like 10 flavors!!
