Shipping Container Dining: The Eco-Friendly Trend That’s Here To Stay

"Tare is found in Bristol’s Wapping Wharf development, this 20-seater restaurant, aptly named after the empty weight of a shipping container. They serve a set four course menu of creative, carefully prepared, seasonally inspired dishes – with cocktails and wines to match – and the friendly young team make everyone feel welcome with their chatty, well-paced service." - The MICHELIN Guide UK Editorial Team

Spotlight on Bristol, England

"Also located in several shipping containers on the popular Wapping Wharf redevelopment—and named after the term for their empty weight—is this tiny restaurant with space for only 10 tables, run by two young chefs and their charming team. The concise menu lists creative modern dishes—which are both pretty on the plate and full of flavor." - The MICHELIN Guide Nordic Editorial Team

Very good value for lunch deal which started well with lovely and refreshing Isle of Wight tomatoes salad and tempura aubergine with ponzu sauce. Both starters were bursting with bright citrusy flavour which makes you reach out for more after every bite. The pork main was a posh roast with thyme flavoured potatoes puree and jus. Unfortunately the meal was let down at the end by the chocolate mousse dessert which we found way too sweet with the combination of the sweet mousse, sweet preserved cherries and sweet sauce. We barely finished the chocolate dessert and gave the feedback to the waitress but nothing was done to rectify the issue we had. I been to the original Tare restaurant before and I really enjoyed my experience before. I think the new bistro concept is a good idea to make fine dining food more affordable and I support that. I hope to see some improvement in the execution of food and service and I will definitely go back to try the food again.

We absolutely loved the delicious tasting menu. A very well thought through & varied selection of perfectly prepared dishes, all presented in a picture perfect way and for a very reasonable price. Service was attentive and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend Tare to anyone looking for a memorable meal in Bristol. Can't wait to go back.

Just an incredible lunch experience. A huge thank you to the staff for making us feel so welcome with a small baby. Food was beyond outstanding & the wine was to die for. Can not recommend enough

This is a lovely discovery! Went there with First Table and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food is exquisite, and there is lovely wine selection. The starters arrived together, but the other dishes arrived one after the other, perfectly timed. Everything tasted delicious. We were a bit greedy and had a total of six dishes between the two of us, plus three starter. Two mains would have been enough. We will definitely come here again!

Loved the food! Great small plates - good seasonal menu, well prepared & presented, and great flavours. A small teams works well together, in a confided space, to offer a pleasant & efficient service. Not sure about putting a restaurant in a shipping container though!! Actually, not sure why there is a 'gaggle' of shipping containers in the old port area. Containers are not part of the history of this part of the port and not at all well suited to hosting what should be a good dining experience! Just my point of view!!

A group of us ate here at the weekend in celebration of my birthday. It was the most fantastic experience! The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere but still maintains a high level of professionalism. Two of us had the vegetarian menu whilst the other two had the standard menu and all of us were blown away by the quality and the individuality of each course. My particular favourite was the tomatoes with whipped ricotta (best tomatoes I've ever eaten); other gems included the Old Winchester tartlet, the confit aubergine, and the rosemary fudge. The wine pairings were well thought out and in my view good value for money. What really topped off a superb evening was the exceptional service we received from start to finish - the staff are friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and true asset to this restaurant.

I had a delightful experience dining at Tare… The space is relatively small but very aesthetic and intimate. Dinner does not start until the last guest/party arrives and dishes are served at the same time and at an even pace. While booking, you’re given an option to start with a glass of champagne upon arrival (which I did) and it was phenomenal. The tasting menu was 7 courses and an exceptional value for £62. The standout dish was the Old Winchester tart with quince and thyme, which was equally sweet and savory with just the right amount of crunch. Many of the dishes seemed to contain a sizable amount of milk/dairy, which I felt was a bit unnecessary and could’ve been substituted to achieve a better flavor profile. The service was outstanding and the server made some impressive drink recommendations I was very fond of. Overall, I had a very nice time dining at Tare and I recommend it as one of the standout restaurants in Wapping Wharf.

Wow wow wow. I have eaten some pretty amazing food at some incredible places but I think this might be one of the best, and I do not say that lightly. The service was outstanding and the food was phenomenal, plus I also think the pricing was very reasonable for the quality. We had the sourdough, potato, haddock and scotch egg to start. The tempura asparagus, pork belly, prawn cannelloni and the duck for main and we finished with the chocolate mouse- everything was 10/10. What an absolute bristol gem, I could not have faulted a single thing. Thank you!
