Burned in the Riots, One St. Paul Restaurant Seeks to Rebuild | Eater Twin Cities

"At the intersection of Hamline Avenue and University Avenue the Target became the flashpoint where tensions in St. Paul first sparked—looters attempted to take the store, prompting a standoff with police and helping to ignite the unrest and riots that spread along University Avenue and affected many nearby small, immigrant‑owned businesses." - Cinnamon Janzer

Most Target stores are very clean and well stocked. Way better than any Walmart! The employees are helpful and efficient for the most part but they definitely seem willing and they're easier to find than in most stores of this type. I'm quite satisfied with Target shopping experience. I appreciate that they give you a free Wi-Fi and the employees are available but do not bother you

Google
This Target store truly impressed me! I rarely write reviews, but this visit warranted it. The cleanliness was exceptional, from the aisles to the bathrooms, which is always a huge plus. The store was well-stocked and had plenty of staff available for assistance. What really stood out was how knowledgeable everyone was. Their helpfulness even led me to purchase items I hadn't planned on, purely due to their excellent service. I was just passing through the area, but I'll gladly drive past four other stores to shop here again. This store is a perfect example of how friendly, knowledgeable staff and a well-maintained environment can genuinely drive customer traffic. Highly recommend!

Was here Saturday 11:30. Needed help at the self checkout. Asked an Associate named KJ. Asked for her name and said I don't have a name tag. Asked for price help and she told me to go take a picture of it with my phone and come back. Asked for Manger and the manager was awesome. KJ refused to help me. Very unusual and rude for a Target. Thanks manager!

This is a review of Target Optical. I was there yesterday with my husband, who doesn't speak English very well. Dr. Wallerich saw that and spoke to us in Spanish from minute 1! He was so nice and friendly, so professional and knowledgeable! We ordered my husband's glasses yesterday and it'll take a few days to get them, so I cannot talk about that yet. But I can also add here that all the people who helped us there yesterday were fantastic.

Google
I wouldn't shop here. They list prices in the store higher than what they list things as online. They say stuff is available in the store online when it's not. Many of the the employees are great, and I hope for them that Target the business is successful. But now it seems like most large scale retailers, like Target, are just rolling over for their suppliers rather than actually trying to offer competitive prices for consumers. I haven't learned enough about the "Target Circle" program to have an informed opinion on it. However, I always decline it because I try to minimize how much I go here due to the high prices. Target clearly also has a retail theft problem, as evidenced by so many of its goods being locked up. This is unfortunate, and I hope Target develops a solution.

On July fourth at 10am there were only three cashiers and self check out closed.walking around the store there were at least 20 people stocking shelves so it didn’t make sense.

Google
This Target is GREAT! It's clean, organized, well-stocked, and seemingly well staffed. I went there on a Sunday afternoon, and there were tons of people stocking shelves, scanning groceries (yes, multiple regular checkout lanes were open), and assisting shoppers.

Google
I love Target in general. I like this one as it's a nice size and always seems to be well stocked. I've always had friendly cashier's and staff. The best thing about this Target is the this new Ulta area! It's just am amazing area with so many fun things!! I haven't had a chance to really explore it but it will stop some trips to the mall. Absolutely excited about this addition. I'm not sure if all locations are going to have this or only select ones. But absolutely a fun addition to am already great location.

Yelp
OK SO Ive been coming to this store for 10 years now, and now that the Downtown Area of Saint Paul no longer has a grocery store of any sort I find myself traveling here much more often. I love everything about this store, never had an issue the employees are great. AND THEN THERE's the Customer Service Desk. Time, after time, after time...whenever I need a bit of extra service, for any little commonality associated with day to day shopping, I am met with the most unprofessional basic rude service, devoid of anything to do with what the definition of customer service at any place of business. Heres two examples for you. One day I was in line with a high dollar amount of 10+ items and my phone dies the second as I am tapping to pay. There was a bit of a line behind me so I told the cashier my situation, place my items to the side, and give me a moment to step over to the CUSTOMER SERVICE area to address my situation. Surely there would be a way to trouble shoot my issue, find a way to get my phone a bit of juice to complet my transaction, which was all bagged up and ready to go twenty feet from where I was standing. Was I ever so wrong. Of course I understand the complexities and policies of handling a customers property, let alone charging everybodys phone who asked, but no I was turned away, quite rudely mind you, and told to go buy one from the electronics department. Once doing so I was THEN told that I was not allowed to charge my phone in that area as it was swamped with numerous items appearing to be all go backs. Fine. I chalked it up. My second similar and equally frustrating experience happened to be this afternoon when I forgot my wallet at home back downtown. I recognized a gentleman who had been a great help to me previously at self check out before, smart thinker and very friendly. I approached him, explained my situation and he gave me the ALL CLEAR to leave my bag at (dare I say it) "CUSTOMER SERVICE" while I hop the train back downtown to retrieve my wallet. Doing so, I returned to the store roughly 45 minutes later. My shoulder bag still sitting by the register I asked first if I could just pay there at the register as it was only a tote bags worth of things. Of course he tells me no, which ok, we all know he could have but for the sake of arguing with someone who has no concept of customer service I ask to leave my two outside items while I pay. Again he says NO, so I step off to the side, place my items down and go to pay for my things ignoring him And his now dramatic scene he is causing over it. 10 minutes later or so, I go to grab my outside items and notice what appears to be his team leader having a meltdown about me leaving the items there while i payed. Feeling head spun from all of this I'm finally able to thank the guy for his great help once again and Im able to escape the Twilight Zone of Target that is the "Customer Service Department"

Yelp
This place is well stocked but obviously very ghetto and dirty. I didn't think to take a picture of it, but they literally have the deodorant locked up in cases. The bathroom was enough for me to leave. A worker came in, did her business, and left out. Didn't even looked phased

Yelp
Highlights: Great Location, On Public Transportation Lines, Near Highway 94, Near Other Shopping Centers, Delicious Hot/Cold Food Options, Fully Stocked Bakery Section, Mostly Stocked In Every Section, Good Customer Service, Great Deals, Clean, Organized I experienced exceptional customer service at my recent visit to the Target Midway location. It was unusually busy, and it almost felt like the patrons were shoulder to shoulder in some of the isles. As I was walking through the Personals Section, I mentioned to my friend that accompanied me that I was looking for Witch Hazel. A Target Staff Member overheard me and said, "I can get that for you" and she proceeded through the busy crowd to retrieve the item and brought it back to me. She mentioned that "witch hazel hides on the shelf, very easy to overlook." I appreciated her willingness to go above and beyond and get the item for me while I waited a few isles away. Everything was clean, organized and well stocked during my visit. I found some great deals on Storage Solutions the Children's Board Books were also on sale, buy 2 get 1 free and another deal offering 25% off. I found everything I was looking for in during this shopping trip, and some fun items for the Holidays. Like most Target locations, Midway also has a Starbucks inside as well as an excellent Hot Food & Cold Food section. The bakery is always stocked with fresh breads, cupcakes, cakes and everything in between. There is plenty of Parking, including Handicap parking and Target is Handicap accessible as well as the bathrooms. The Midway location is on the Public Transportation line with access to both the Metro Train Line and the Metro Bus Line. It is near Highway 94 with an exit on Hamline, which is the cross street of Target. You also have the option to order ahead for curbside pickup, pick up in the store at the Customer Service desk, or for delivery when you order $35 or more. You can join Target's Delivery Service for $99 per year, which offer unlimited delivery, or you can pay $9.99 per delivery. You're able to earn points for each purchase through your Target App and you can use your earnings towards purchases made in store or online with Target. I love Target so much. This place has mostly everything you need, and I love the $5 and under section near the entrance. As I'm sure most of you know, Target is a dangerous place to be sometimes because you come in for 2 things and leave with 20 but either way- I wouldn't change this store at all. They are doing a great job at the Target Midway.

Yelp
This place seems to be always crazy. The location has lots of traffic and the roads until recently were worse than in afganjstan. The place is not well stocked and if your coming in for food items well there Is a chance they don't have it avialble. I picture a super target as a one stop shop and well you go in and get anything you need except for food. The frozen food section looks like the shelves that had toilet paper during great toilet paper crisis of 2020. The fruits section was well stocked and so was the clothing but other things well.. if they say they have it online and in store that's not always right. I tend to always have to make a second stop at Kowalskis where they seem to have always what I need.

Yelp
I don't understand the hate for this Target location! I was in the area and it was unseasonably chilly so we sought out the closest Target to find a jacket for our daughter before a zoo outing. I will say, Target did not come through with a good jacket selection for three year olds, but it was June, and not really the season for it. We managed to find a sweatshirt she liked and were on our way. All in all I'd describe this Target location as pretty standard. It was clean, had what we needed, and was, well a Target. This location should meet your expectations if you're looking for a Target or Walmart and are in this area.

Yelp
Sadly, it doesn't wear a cape or shoot laser beams, so I'm not sure why they call it a 'Super' Target. That said, they are strong in the men's casual and business casual clothes department. Overall, a clean and well run store.

Yelp
This target branch is messy, I can hardly find the things that I need and always out of stock. I used to come shop here in the days as it was my neighborhood target but it had gotten worst and restroom was dirty, smelly. The staffs who used to work there were nice, friendly and provided good customer services but some left or let go after new manager were hired so now their customer service sucks. Place look trashy, shelf empty, always out of stock so I stopped going there.

Ahmed M.

Yelp
I get followed every time I come to this target store when I am buying Starbucks coffee or simply walking around the store. It is extremely uncomfortable to be followed around. I never have stolen any items from any store or have any criminal record. I don't know why but I suspect because of my appearance as African immigrant but I hope the people in charge understand that folks know when they are being stalked and it should be an issue they discuss in meetings.

Yelp
Everything's locked up now and it takes minutes for employees to wander over to unlock anything. Save your time and money - shop elsewhere.

Troy D.

Yelp
Nice having to wait 10 minutes for someone to open locked up laundry detergent. If you are locking stuff up to prevent use some of that cost to fully staff to have people open the cases. Insane!

Trina S.

Yelp
Today was the last time shopping at Target. Now that everything is locked up, a quick trip is impossible. I ended up leaving my half full cart and walked out empty handed.

Yelp
Having been an employee at this location, I will tell you that some of these reviews are extremely accurate (sadly) and some are not. Because it is a retail store of this size, the customer service quality can be quite Russian roulette. My team was amazing and friendly. What is listed online as being available for customers might not actually be at the store. The inventory is constantly off which is irritating to customers but for us as well. I grew up going to the Roseville target and it's a lot nicer, but I love the family and the unique atmosphere of this one. Location is convenient for many as well.

Yelp
I live right down the street from this target. I love targets in general but this is not my favorite one. I just feel like they're always out things. Once they were out of cilantro for a few weeks and today they were out of all the packaged ground meat that my boyfriend and I normally buy. Not terrible just not my favorite. I also don't love how the clothes are displayed compared to other super targets.

Yelp
This Target gets a crush of people because of location. The convenience of being able to just jump from 94 in minutes while passing Midway is it's number one sales feature. Unlike Inver Grove and a few others, it just does not " feel" as clean. Maybe it's the floor, the compressed space with so much stock in the women's clothing area, the lighting. Not sure. Stock also disappears very fast here for unique great items because of the high volume of customers. But i prefer this Midway store to Roseville which is not as well organized. The food area here was fully renovated over a year ago and is one of the VERY best. It is easy to find things, quite huge and very appealing in layout/ displaying of items. This area feels very clean with wider aisles that are very long. Grocery shopping here is easy and visually appealing.

Yelp
Why do I shop here on Sunday afternoons? I've been here in the past and the produce (which isn't that amazing vs a regular grocery store) is completely picked over making me stop at Kowalski's. Today I go to pick up some replacement filters for the humidifier that I bought 3 mo's ago and there are only five left and only fit two different models which are not the one I bought. In fact, they don't even have replacement filters for the few humidifiers they are still selling. I guess I'll see if I can find them on their super secure computer system. I also needed replacement dish washing scrubby sponges for the thing I bought there last summer and which I've been able to buy before. Today? It looked like there was a run on the place (see picture). It looked like one of those shelves you see on TV that's completely picked over because a hurricane is coming. Our weather emergency? Well it was gonna be 40 degrees because as we all know how miserably cold our winter has been. Quick! Stock up on scrubbies! Who handles the inventory control for this place because I want to pelt them with filters and sponges and loudly berate them with WTF?!?! and other verbal abuse. I will however give them a star as people in other departments were kind and asked if I was finding everything I was looking for. I know that if I had expressed my findings (or lack of), I probably would've been shuffled off to someone else and then told it was "end of season" and "you can always check our website" offering that faint glimmer of consumer hope highlighting their "I can't do or tell you a damn thing". So I didn't. We need a new rating for experiences at stores we like to shop at. I suggest the Pfft!! rating and this one scores a five.

Mady B.

Yelp
Abraham at self checkout with the blonde hair and an Afro was super rude because all the tooth brushes were marked $5.29 and it rang up as 9.50 so when I asked him he was super fucking rude and if stores has it accidentally marked it should be charged for the price marked

Yelp
First of all this Target is a Super Target. So this is one of the larger Targets that is around. That has pretty much all your basic needs and more. This Target is pretty organize and clean. They sometimes have sample stations but I have rarely see them. Depending be on the time of day and time, it can get pretty busy here and they can be out of stock of stuff. When the Super NES Classic was release, I was able to get one. So they can have a larger stock of popular items. Service is solid. At this Target, you can: - order at Starbucks - get sliced meat at the deli - buy prepare hot food - get yummy treats at the bakery - buy alcohol Pretty solid Target if you are in the Midway area.

Yelp
I did a Target drive up for two items today: an eye cream and soap bar. I usually trust Target and have never had any serious drive up issues before so didn't think about checking the items when I first received them. I also didn't check them until it was close to bedtime and I was getting ready for bed. I reached into the bag and pulled out the eye cream first. To my surprise, the item was already ripped open at the bottom and to add more to it... there was a red tomato (sauce) all over the inside of the bottom tabs of the box. I was livid and extremely disgusted that this sort of defected item was given to me. I immediately returned both items to the store. The customer service clerk had no interest in looking at the items himself. I had to tell him a few times to take a look at it himself. He then called the store manager over, who did not seem to care much. He nonchalantly apologized as he was also making his way to leave the desk. He did ask if I wanted replacements and I told him no. I don't trust anything else that may be coming from this location and will no longer do anymore drive ups here unless I specifically go inside.
google avatar

Steve A.

Yelp
If you're going to tell someone their pickup order is ready, they shouldn't have to wait 45+ minutes upon arriving to get that order -- holiday or not. There must be 60+ cars waiting for groceries as I type this, and I see two employees tending to the drive-up section. Most cars around me have been waiting 30+ minutes. A few were here before me when I arrived nearly 50 minutes ago. I did a pickup order at another Target on Christmas Eve and waited all of six minutes. What is management here doing? Go to any other location.
google avatar

Ashley P.

Yelp
I'm currently in a line to the back of the store and there are employees all over just making clothes look pretty and pushing carts around. We're in the middle of a pandemic. #1 priority should be getting people out of the store. Ridiculous.
google avatar

Yelp
Sigh * Hmmm.. Let me start by saying that this has got to be the WORST target I have ever been sadly I live closer to this one than Roseville ... But there's never anybody willing to help They always out of stock especially grocery Area and produce its disgusting .. Totally understand is super busy ..maybe short staff .. But every time I see an employee ..they are useless gossiping to other co-workers or to be busy on their phones lol which is funny Checking out of this place ... Sigh .. No point of being on the express lanes either .. You are better off going to shore view or Roseville target POINT BLANK

True R.

Yelp
I been going to this target for over 10 years and I can say that this target is amazing and some of employees do love to help but some do not and that is sad. I can see why they might run out of stuff they are busy all the time and its hard to keep up. Now the crime that is happening is bad I think they should have a saint paul or minneapolis cop sit in the store and watch .

Yelp
Bumping it up to a 4. My last review I said that Pharmacy staff could use some work.... Well... they must have added a new team member. Sue the pleasant young lady that helped me was an absolute joy to deal with. What a sweetheart. She orignally couldn't find my RX, but kept looking. She finally found it and told me it would be 5 min. I shopped around accumulating more and more stuff I didn't need and she was kind of enough to come and get me out of the aisle and save my wallet some money. Sue epitomizes what customer service should be!

Yelp
New mom and baby in tow review: One thing I'm discovering as a new mom is how baby friendly or not so friendly places are... I'm a first time mom and wish that there were more reviews on this little tidbit. I'll be adding this to all my review from here on out!! Baby questions: Is it baby friendly? 4 out of 5 stars. Is there anywhere to fit a car seat? Yes. The carts are big enough to fit a car seat in the actual cart. I do not put my car seat up in the top area over the handlebars are I'm sure they fit but I don't do that. The carts don't allow much extra space once you put a car seat in them. So in the end I would recommend carrying your baby versus bringing them in a car seat if possible. Is it stroller friendly? It's target it's spacious a stroller would fit just fine. But it's target so you're bound to buy 10 times the amount of items that you went in for and having a stroller would not be ideal to carry around all your items. Is it too noisy? It's Normal day today noises out in public. Is it boobie friendly? No. Feeding in public would be fine but there is no area for a mom to sit down comfortably and breast-feed their babies. There are benches in the front entry which is not ideal. There is a family bathroom but no bench or chair to sit on. I was told by a target employee that I couldn't breast-feed my baby in the furniture section of the store. Meaning I can sit on the display chair and feed my baby. I mean if I had to I would but it's not ideal. Just some simple changes would make it a much better experience. Throw a chair in the family bathroom that would make it much better. Do I feel comfortable and accepted having a baby in tow? Totally accepted. Just make sure your baby is well fed and doesn't have a dirty diaper because the family bathrooms kind of suck.

Yelp
Welcome to TARget! This is my local go to Target. If I want to get fancy I drive to Roseville, fancy with some shmancy? all the way to Woodbury. This place is great for the essentials plus some. Valentine decor Jan. 1st? I'm IN! Easter stuff on Valentines Day? I'm IN! My only pet peeve is the waiting in line. Zillions of checkouts people; let's staff them. I must be a great actress because EVERY time I'm in line waiting for years because there are only 2 lanes open...I roll my eyes, lean on my cart with disgust and after awhile someone usually radios another cashier. People who work here are always friendly and helpful. Always.
google avatar

Jakesa T.

Yelp
Scrolling through the photos, this is probably the saddest target I've seen. Since the new renovation and updated grocery area, it has been significantly improved. The shelves aren't as bare or empty. This target has everything every other target has so you won't find anything special here. I don't know if target is changing their values but finding someone to help you is becoming increasingly harder. PSA to target employees who see other people wondering around as if they're looking for something...they're probably looking for something and you should help!
google avatar

Yelp
Webtise said they had 3 pairs of jeans my size and when I get there I can't find them anywhere. A very nice lady went to look but couldn't find them in the back. And the dude that was supposed to work in the areas answer was "I dunno". Talk about horrible customer service. I'm glad I didn't order them in advance. This location is trash. Worst target I've ever been to. Never going back.

Padraic M.

Yelp
The Midway Target continues to set the record for worst Target in MN. Last week, my wife bought $20 worth of Yogurt, got home and noticed it was out of date by a MONTH. Really Target? You have cut the inventory to the point that we hate to go there. Sure you are cheaper, but if I want cheap house brands, Ill go to ALDI. They are generally nicer in town. Your Midway store workers are gonna make people sick and your Managers are out to lunch. Speaking of incompetent Managers, why do you tolerate so many Panhandlers on your property? These troubled, often drugged up folks seem to be tolerated/ignored and increasingly agressive with customers? My wife does not feel safe there any longer. Are you OK with that too?
google avatar

Carol A.

Yelp
Edit: They are totally rearranging the store. Everything but the groceries has moved, and they aren't done yet. 3/22/17. I pity the staff that has to do the move, but so far everyone I have asked knew where to direct me. I can't figure out the logic of where things are. My advice, wait a few weeks. I live close by, and shop there a lot. I'll edit again when they are finished. I like this Target! It is conveniently located, plenty of parking, on the Metro Green Line. Groceries: don't expect all the deli items of the high priced stores, but you can find the common items. Staff: I can usually find someone if I have a question, or their "call phone"-which has a price scanner attached, works to get someone. They've all got those hand held scanner computers that can find something or tell you if it's out of stock. Checkers: they are always cheerful, which must be difficult since the customers are often cranky (or stupid!)
google avatar

Melaney S.

Yelp
Ok here's the thing Target is super convenient. If you want grocery items you can get anywhere else, or great prices on generic pharmacy items, maybe you want pots and pans maybe you want clothing you can get the basics here. What you can't get is a lot they don't specialize in anything you can get shoes tomatoes crackers or electronics, they don't specialize in any of them so you can't get specialized service. I like Target but I need to know what they don't have before I go there. I like their delivery service they just haven't reached the 4 * level yet.
google avatar

Maggie Q.

Yelp
I'm not sure why I keep returning to this target, probably because it's so close and it's not too difficult to stop there on my way home from work. I shop here consistently one to two times each week and the service is generally terrible. I first noticed something was amiss when I tried to buy puff pastry shells from the fozen department and they were out. A couple weeks later they were completely out of the brand of deli ham I buy. Finally, the last straw came this last Saturday, when all I really needed was to pick up a jar of peanut butter, and they were completely sold out peanut butter. The entire section was cleared out (seriously, what grocery store runs out of ALL peanut butter?). Sure they had that jelly and peanut butter in one jar, but that stuff seems highly questionable to me. Despite my usual sense of control, I nearly had a melt down in the peanut butter aisle. Beyond always being out of something I need, their produce isn't the best looking, and there are never enough registers open.

Yelp
Target Security Guards Stalk and Watch Black People. I have been a guest at this Target for over a year now and was recently stalked and watched by security guards on consecutive times I was in the store. I do like that Target does hire a lot of people of color but unfortunately there are not a lot of people of color in management, supervisory, or security positions compared to their total team member staff. Which is why? whenever they feel like it or do they feel threatened? by you Security and even some team members will watch and stalk you as if you are a thief in the night. I will not tolerate this type of harassment and have already made a complaint concerning Target security guards and cameras stalking and watching black people. From now on I am taking names and badge numbers and will document every incident in my personal blog. This is 2012 not 1912. Nothings changed but the game.

Yelp
Holy MegaTarget Batman! I'm used to the urban Targets being teeny and not well stocked. This feels like a little trip to suburbia right in the midway neighborhood of St. Paul. In the good ways. The convenient ways. It's HUGE, spacious, clean, well-stocked and you get the feeling that if it's going to be at Target at all, it's going to be at *this* Target. Yay for produce that's better than both the nearby Rainbow AND the nearby Cub. (Not that that's hard to do, but...)
google avatar

Annie D.

Yelp
Yes, it's a Target. No, it's not the best Target. I come here sort of regularly when I'm in the area, but I still think that this location just always seems a little less organized. However, I'd much rather go to this Target than Walmart or K-Mart, so it's the clear winner regardless. The end.
google avatar

Lorraine N.

Yelp
This Target is busy busy busy----I always park on the end of the store because it is horrible to try and get through the parking lot...I have had to shop here more than I would like as with a daughter in college and living within the 5 mile radius it really can serve a lot of our needs......I do not care for the clientele this location seems to attract or the dirt flying around the parking lot---but it is a little notch above the the Wal-mart and the Cub and Rainbow for food and other products in the next few blocks as far as selection of products and feeling safe in the plaza....

Yelp
This is definitely my go-to Target (HAH! I like how I can say that...yay Minnesota!). Is that mainly due to it being the most convenient? Yes, but honestly, distance means nothing to me if it's worth it (Eden Prairie Costco for example...). So anyway, WHY is this my go-to Target? Let me tell you in bullet format: - clean - well stocked (and restocked!) - decent produce and grocery selection (couldn't find ginger marmalade, but then again, I can't really find that anywhere) - friendly, helpful staff - friendly Starbucks staff (yes, I am one of those people. I am not ashamed). - decent parking lot (although watch out for that steep incline when you first get in/leave it) - easy layout to maneuver - good lighting - two entrances: one for mainly the grocery side, and one for the main retail side, which is really useful when I just need to run in and grab a lemon or something (that's never happened, but I'm sure if it did, I would appreciate the convenience). Is it as awesome as the downtown Target? No, but it is way better than most of the other Targets I've been to.

Yelp
12:20pm after overnight freezing rain and Midway Target has yet to salt the parking lot or the sidewalk.

Yelp
This is one of my least favorite Targets. The only reason I'm a "regular" at this one is because it's close to where I live and when in doubt I go there to grab the necessities. They typically lack inventory, much like Kimber C. mentioned and as she also mentoned, things are just hard to find there. Two things I majorly dislike about this Target - other Targets are easy - this one is hard. I can't mindlessly wander and still find the things I need. Most of the staff are rude and short with customers. There are a few that are nice and friendly - the typical "target" employees. But the rest seem to act like they're doing us a favor by taking a step down in life and working at Target. It's a downer. Plus, I feel like the cops are constantly here. And I'm not talking like just sitting observing - but activity detaining people or meeting regarding shoplifting issues. This doesn't make me want to go here and purchase much other than feminine hygine products because I don't care to be mugged in the parking lot for my higher priced items. I find it hard to believe that people perfer this Target over the super-close wonderful Roseville SuperTarget . . . but everyone unto themselves.

Yelp
Even after a major remodel, STILL - hands down - the WORST stocked Target in the Cities, and been to nearly all of them.

Yelp
This target is consistently disappointing. Management is rude and unhelpful and it seems like all of the employees hate being there. I only go here if I absolutely need something. It makes me sad because this store has really made me dislike target.

Yelp
I've always loved this target! Even more so now that all of the construction is pretty much done... It looks beautiful. I especially love the Starbucks and the employees. It doesn't seem to matter how busy they are, I'm always treated very well. I have a milk allergy and they always, always, ALWAYS use soy milk like I ask (which is not always the case at other coffee stores or even other Starbucks). My drink is always absolutely wonderful and the workers recognize me and actually want to hear about my day and are genuine people. I also have great experiences at the self check out, even on Sundays when this Target seems to be the most busy. The workers are always quick to help and answer questions. One time, I hit the wrong kind of tomato without even noticing and a clerk came over, told me, and showed me which one was the right one. That mistake would've cost me $2...for one small tomato! I really appreciate how hard everyone works in this store. To anyone who has never been here: Sunday nights are not a good time to go grocery shopping. Of course everything will be out of stock. Everyone on the planet goes grocery shopping on Sundays. For the best results, come a few hours after they open and you will see that they are fully stocked. In fact, come on a Monday morning and they will usually be all stocked up again.

Yelp
SuperTarget, what did I do before you came along. This is the local target for me and I always seem to be going in at least once (sometimes twice) a week to pick up random items and those last minute recipe ingredients that I always tend to forget. So far I have never had an issue with this place, whether it be for finding something (always seem to have what i need in stock), using the pharmacy or returning things that just don't work or decided I didn't need to buy. Hopefully it continues to please me. Always clean, friendly staff and usually in and out within a matter of minutes.

Yelp
I went online to find a specific item, elastic exercise bands for my physical therapy after surgery. The Target.com site showed them in stock at the Midway location. Picked up other items and got to the far end of the store, couldn't find them. Asked a Target associate for help. She checked and assured me they were out of stock. I showed her on my phone that it said they were in stock, she shrugged and walked away. At checkout I mentioned my frustration to the cashier. He said... you can never trust what that says... you need to call. Hey Target... if it's not accurate, don't use it!! Extremely frustrated... I won't be running around to Target stores looking for them!!!

Yelp
I've shopped this Target on and off since first relocating to St. Paul in 1997. I used to shop there quite a bit in the late 1990s when I was a student at Hamline University. Although this Target is in many ways like every other Target across America, I simply cannot give it a good review or recommend it. My most recent visit to this Target was two weeks ago when I bought an iPod classic. Due to my prior experience with this Target, I would have liked to avoid this location, but this Target was the only one in my area that had the iPod model and make I wanted. So, against my better judgment, I wandered over to this Target on a Saturday afternoon. First, the parking situation here is atrocious. I had to circle several times before finding a spot. I was also paranoid that my car would be hit by all the drivers who apparently mistake the Target parking lot for the State Fair bumper cars ride. Next, the stores is brimming with the rudest possible shoppers ever. There are carts everywhere and people will NOT get out of the way no matter how polite you say, "Excuse me, please? Can I get by, please?" (OK, maybe this isn't Target's fault exactly.) When I made my way back to the electronics section, the young guy who helped me was very friendly and helpful. He made some suggestions for additional things I should purchase with my iPod and checked me out promptly. I'm giving this Target an extra star just because the guy who helped me was so sweet and I knew how busy he was. But, I left the store with my iPod in hand lucky just to get the heck out of there.

Yelp
It's target. I live nearby and like cheap groceries, so I end up going here. It's not as bad as the grocery stores or other big box stores near by. It's often way too crowded with not enough lanes open. The management seems sometimes hesitant to open more lanes. In short, Yes I go here, No I don't really like going here that much, but it's better than the alternatives.

Yelp
First let me clarify, this review is primarily for the grocery store experience at Target, in comparison to other options in the area. Everyone here is likely pretty familiar with Target. All offer pretty much the same thing, but not all are created equal. And this store is definitely on the lower end of the Target spectrum. I frequent this location because it is, in my opinion, one of the most bearable and least frustrating options for groceries in the University/Midway area. Let me also say that I tend to stay away from your Kowalski's, Lund's, and Whole Foods because they lack the larger, blue-collar selection of many of the things I eat regularly and are generally more expensive and pretentious than I am willing to endure on a regular basis. Also, if you are willing to give me 5% off everything at all times at Target with a Target debit card, it's hard to pass up. That said, compared with the grocery shopping experience at Aldi, Rainbow, or Cub Foods, which are all in the area, this is definitely the best, but the difference is marginal, and for different reasons. Their staff is generally much more attentive than any of those 3, and usually are eager to help if asked, but are also usually not that knowledgeable either. But I will commend the effort here in that category. The patrons here, again, are generally better than the 3 aforementioned stores, but there are still a lot of 'head in the clouds' individuals who shop here who have no idea what is going on around them. However, far less than the other 3. My main gripe about this location and the grocery experience is that their selection is far below what you would find at a larger grocery store. There are a lot of things I still need to buy at other places because Target simply doesn't have the space to stock them. In addition, many of the things they do carry seem to always be out of stock when I shop. Mind you, I'm usually shopping during the week between the hours of 5 and 10pm, so by no means are these unusual hours for the typical person. How can you claim to be a full-service grocery store and consistently be out of staple items like yogurt, cottage cheese, peppers, onions, bakery buns, etc.? Maybe they are not claiming to be full-service, but it sure seems that way. It is very frustrating when I stop in to pick up 5-6 everyday items, and they are out of 2 of them. Lastly, while their prices do seem on par and in many cases lower than many other places, their meat department items always seem to be more expensive for some reason, and their Archer Farms store brand isn't quite as cheap as other stores' either. All in all, Target is an ok option for my grocery needs. I don't mean to be harsh, and maybe I'm just venting because there are no ideal, one-stop solutions for what I've come to expect from a grocery store. But I don't think it's too much to expect that staple items always be stocked. I will continue to shop here, mainly because there are no better options in the area that are convenient to me, and I can shop here for about 70% of the things I need on a regular basis, and save 5% at the same time. Being from South Dakota and having lived in Nebraska and Iowa at different times, I've been spoiled and still long for a Hy-Vee in the Twin Cities Metro, but I guess I will have to make due until that day comes.

Yelp
Extremely disappointed with this Target. I'm leaving upset right now because the police officer stationed at the entrance walked in and IMMEDIATELY started profiling a few young black men who walked in. Several of us customers who were walking out stopped and stared at this blatant racial profiling. This is not the type of place I feel comfortable. I don't want police to harass people in a store. DO BETTER, TARGET.
