The 22 Best Bakeries In London - London - The Infatuation

"We’ve made repeat pilgrimages, panting all the way up the hill, to this tiny Highgate bakery for their Guinness cake—we love the tangy sour cream and crème fraîche topping. But you should also get involved in the creative pastries topped with things like ginger custard and grapefruit glaze. Perching on one of Tarn’s two wooden tables like the main character of some north London-based indie film, is an excellent way to start the day." - rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, daisy meager, heidi lauth beasley

The 18 Best Mince Pies In London - London - The Infatuation

"At Tarn Bakery, even the butter is cultured. This charming little Highgate spot makes mince pies with apples and plums, which are available all the way until 22nd December. You can pre-order online, and, crucially, you can even pre-order just one. But why would you?" - sinead cranna

The Best Guinness Cakes In London - London - The Infatuation

"Looking back at our initial notes about Tarn Bakery is like reading the rantings of someone who’s seen the light. “Actually tastes of Guinness”—followed by three exclamation marks—then words like “malty” and “moist”, and an ominous final scrawl of, “I think this is it”. The Guinness cake from this Crouch Hill spot is unlike any of the others on this list. The topping is a combination of sour cream and crème fraîche which gives it a nice tang, there’s a sweet-smoky whiskey caramel drizzle, and, crucially, there’s a double layer of buttercream. It’s intensely Guinnessy, intensely chocolatey, and we have intensely strong feelings about it." - sinead cranna

Tarn Bakery - Review - Highgate - London - The Infatuation

"We’ve made repeat pilgrimages, panting all the way up the hill, to this tiny Highgate bakery for their Guinness cake. And that is how we know we love Tarn Bakery. The literal legwork needed to get here is always worth it. Flaky, creative pastries come topped with things like rhubarb compote, ginger custard, and grapefruit glaze, and the aforementioned Guinness cake is one of the best in London—we particularly love the tangy sour cream and crème fraîche topping. We can’t think of many better ways to start the day than perching on one of the two wooden tables here, clasping an earthenware mug of coffee, and staring out of the windows like the main character of some North London-based indie film. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Pause Unmute" - Sinéad Cranna

Has to be the best bakery in London! I've been to Tarn multiple times now and it never disappoints. The bread is wholesome and delcious with fresh, seasonal sandwich fillings. Then the pastries and cakes are so tasty and not overly sweet. And if you're visiting in summer you have to try an ice cream sandwich - so so so good!! And to top it off everyone that works there is really lovely and it's a great spot to sit with a coffee on a sunny morning!

The fig ricotta cake was lovely! Coffee is also great here Wish they started doing more vegan milk options (atm it’s only oat) but excited to come back to try more!

Best almond (and almond & chocolate) croissants either of us have ever had. You can taste and see the quality of the ingredients and baking skill that go into these beautiful pastries! Long black coffee also a big hit! Can’t wait to come back to taste more of what this friendly team have on offer 👌

Lovely chic café with delightful in-house baked goods. Aubergine scroll was so tasty, caramelisation of the aubergine with great amount of cheese. I didn't quite know what to expect from the honey and peach (cake) but it was soft, not dry at all and burst with summery flavour. Lovely staff and coffee too

I’ve had the pain au chocolat here, and it was one of the best I’ve ever tried. The mushroom toast is amazing, and the coffee is brilliant — rich and flavorful. The staff are friendly and welcoming, which makes the experience even better. Highly recommend this spot!

Google
Croissant and cheese scroll was super delicious, kids named it the best croissant in London. Honey cake was good. We had flat white and mocha which was good but not to our taste and they don’t have skimmed milk option. Even the shop was busy but the staff were super nice, polite and welcoming which not easy to see in London specially if you are not regular, but customer service her was really good. My only regret that I didn’t buy bread. Definitely will go back again.

I have been waiting to visit since their crowdfunder, so was very excited to finally try their goods. Everything looked excellent - great range of breads, pastries and cakes - and it all tasted incredible. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Definitely one of the best bakeries I’ve visited in North London.

I’ve visited far too many bakeries for my liking in London and have tried various things at Tarn and still feel it is one of the best. I usually go in for their Guinness cake which I’ve also happened to try a lot in London (and Tarn’s is superior!) BUT my eyes always get turned when I walk in and see what other pastries they have!! I always walk out with 2-3 other things and every single thing I have tried is delicious. Yesterday I also picked up a coffee and chocolate pastry which was SO GOOD. I love this place and don’t mind travelling far for it. It’s a lovely small bakery with really friendly staff and the owner Florin is friendly. I must try their bread and pizza one day. Please give this bakery a try.
