I stayed at Tarrytown House Estate with my mother this past weekend, and our experience was made truly special by Briana at the front desk. She was exceptionally warm and welcoming, going above and beyond to ensure we felt comfortable and cared for. She even remembered personal details—like the fact that we were celebrating my mom’s birthday—which made our stay feel even more thoughtful and personalized. From allowing us to check in early to sharing a memorable conversation upon checkout, Briana’s kindness and attentiveness stood out. While I rated the rooms 4 stars due to the bathrooms not being updated (despite the rest of the room being renovated), the overall stay was a 5-star experience because of Briana’s outstanding service. Tarrytown House Estate is truly lucky to have her!

This place is absolutely amazing! The atmosphere is incredible, and it’s perfect whether you’re looking to relax for a special occasion or just have a great time with friends. I’ve stayed here twice, and both times felt like something out of a fairytale. It definitely gives off a cool castle vibe. The staff is super friendly, and the amenities are awesome—indoor and outdoor pools, a racquetball court, a well-equipped gym, and a sauna. The Biddle Mansion is stunning, and the views are just breathtaking. Breakfast was really good, though I wish there were a few more savory options. Other than that, everything was fantastic. I can’t wait to go back!

Perfect one night stay to celebrate our anniversary. We stayed in a mansion room on the top floor. Love the view from the balcony and the day was nice enough to sit out there with wine before dinner at Goosefeather. Dinner was great also. Be aware there are lots of stairs to this room and no elevator. We were aware of this and feel the room is worth it.

The venue itself is stunning, but the rooms leave a bit to be desired. I think to call this a “luxury hotel” is a bit of a stretch. We’ve stayed here twice, and in different parts of the hotel each time. Both times, the bathrooms are extremely outdated, to the point they aren’t charming, just run down. What hotel that calls itself a luxury has a shower curtain in their bathroom? Because the bathrooms are so old, I don’t think they can be adequately cleaned. We stayed over Valentine’s weekend and there was rust on a portion of the tub, and while it didn’t seem like it was overlooked, it was so seeped into the tub itself, it couldn’t be thoroughly cleaned. We also had a dead beetle on the curtain in our bedroom, our armoire had a crack in it. It’s a shame because the bedroom portion of the rooms have been charming both times, but the bathroom being so so outdated and the lack of attention to detail when it comes to cleaning do not read luxury at all.

Our stay here was short, but absolutely wonderful. We had a room in the King Mansion, and the atmosphere was awesome. The antique fixtures in the bathroom were so cool, and having a private balcony off the room was a pleasant surprise. We had a fabulous view of the river, and we were fortunate enough to have a beautiful sunset to enjoy on the balcony the evening we arrived. This is an old building. Anyone staying here should be aware that it isn't a stay in a brand new luxury hotel. It's a historic mansion that's been converted. That said, everything is updated and quite comfortable. Would absolutely come stay here again when visiting the area. The cost of the stay was well worth the beauty and atmosphere of the inn.

This is a very unique place. The estate building itself is charming. The grounds are well-maintained and the landscaping is great. The hotel buildings were obviously built over what is likely decades and thus it is a bit of a cornucopia of styles, levels, and seemingly random hallways, corners, and exits. It takes a while to find your room or find your way out of the hotel, or find your way really anywhere.||Our room was spacious and clean. Housekeeping was very prompt however they did not leave any new terry. We called guest services, they too were very nice however the towels never showed up. C'est la vie but at this price point a little annoying.||We were there to attend a wedding, which was exceptionally well executed. The catering staff here does a wonderful job. Everything from the wedding itself - which was outdoors at sunset, to a large-scale cocktail hour to the reception was well done. We did not dine at the third-party restaurant, but it seemed to be very popular just based on the number of people coming and going. They do have a restaurant that is open for breakfast (I think buffet only) and a bar downstairs in the Mansion proper which was sold out for parties on both nights we were there. Not a big deal if you are attending an event, but likely very annoying if you are not.||My biggest recommendation for this place is that they should consider lighting the pathways at night. It is quite challenging, particularly because nothing is level, and in the dark more than a little dangerous.||This was an adventure.

I was here for a work retreat and stayed for 4 nights. There is an old-timey feel to the whole place, and therein lies its charm.||I was given a double queen room in the Rockland building. The room was spacious, well stocked and cozy. The walls are pretty thin,so you'll hear some mumbling if the neighbouring room has its TV on.||Check in was smooth and there was breakfast provided everyday of my stay. There were limited vegetarian hot options, but it's possible to eat heartily.||The grounds are very quiet, peaceful and October gives great fall views throughout. If you're celebrating a romantic occasion or coming through your workplace, this is a great environment.||The nearby funeral home really goes all-out on their Halloween decoration !!

We hosted a leadership offsite at Tarrytown House Estate this week with over 60 leaders and absolutely loved our experience. The property is absolutely beautiful… both inside the many houses as well as the grounds. The property has beautiful views of the Hudson River. In addition, the staff were amazing… from the time I checked in (Brianna at the front desk was so helpful and a pleasure) to the staff supporting our two days with the room amenities, food, etc. the food was delicious. I highly recommend a stay whether for a business gathering or personal.

Yelp
First let me start with the icing on the cake. No early check in which was fine, 3 hours later given 1 room at least (we had 2). Again that was fine. Given a map and ventured to find our room in this confusing weird hotel. Annoying and reminded me of a resort somewhere but you're in a resort so it's expected. Here it was not. After dinner finally given 2nd room and yeah upgraded to presidential suite which normally would be great. It reminded me of that Seinfeld episode where they get one upgrade on flight (Jerry takes it, it's great in first class while Elaine suffers in coach lol) the suite wasn't even that great. But how do you to a family give an upgrade to one? I would've rather none. It felt like a slap in the face, we were here for my son's birthday! I didn't want to be petty or argue on who got the room so I figured it was just going to go to my mom since I didn't want to move our stuff. We had no idea it was even an upgrade till she wandered down the hall. That was just the icing on this dump cake of a hotel. There's no proper signs to our "wing" so entire time walking you're confused if you're going the right way. Nobody around to even ask. Parking is confusing and they have some hotel car taking a handicap spot (which my moms bf could've used) my son wanted the pool and guy tells us unfortunately you have to go outside to get to it. But then after getting split up my mom found a way to get there inside by accident lol. This was the one hotel I considered just going home I was so frustrated. 20 minutes later we finally found the pool. No wonder pool was empty even with a ton of kids staying. Outside is just as confusing with no signs and you randomly find areas of interest. After everything I had my mom take my boy to get a bath in her suite while I went to take a shower. This was the only good thing in that luckily we had the suite otherwise my son would probably have gotten hurt. No idea if it's cleaning product they use or the shower is just insanely slippery. I caught myself but my son wouldn't have. All I could think was wtf is next? At this nightmare hotel. I wanted spooky but this is just ridiculous in an aspect of other horrors lol. Restaurant of course doesn't serve breakfast like wtf? In a hotel??? If you're expecting a nice room service breakfast think otherwise. It's probably for the best since who knows if food would be good. Hotel is also in need of a huge upgrade. Flush the toilet and it runs for 10 minutes before you can flush again. As my son is wondering why he can't flush cuz we used the bathroom one after other in a 10 minute period. Lipstick on a pig I kept thinking of when walking this hotel. This is NY we should do better. Bed was comfortable though super high up. First time seeing our cable box in a hotel was amusing. I just watched Seinfeld which lead me to comparing that one upgrade on flight lol. Ac is also cooling but those 2 things don't warrant a star. The bad overtakes all the good. After all our exploring I'm dreading leaving today hopefully it won't rain since to leave we have to traipse outside in a yard before getting to the actual area to get out. Which btw is poorly lit at night. Oh yeah leaving pool we got lost again on way back to rooms. So that was fun. They need more like westchester wing but leads to Putnam wing signs. They don't even have an elevator sign you just stumble upon one and it groaned so badly I had thoughts of getting stuck in it lol. I'm glad only one night we leave today. We won't be back.

Yelp
WARNING: THEY HAVE BED BUGS! terrible experience! had an experience with bed bugs while at the stay. We alerted front desk and management and were responded with anger and unprofessional attitude. We've stayed at this hotel in the past and loved it but in recent years it seems like the quality and integrity of the hotel and staff has gone down. house keeping was not cleaning rooms correctly, in fact I walked in on a house keeping staff sitting on my bed and another on her phone when they should have been cleaning my room. Back to the bed bugs, when we alerted staff that the beds were riddled with bed bugs they made it seem as if we were the ones who brought the bugs and the management had an accusatory demeanor about them. We've been ignored and have not been offered compensation or even cleaning of our items we brought to the hotel (WHICH IS LEGALLY REQUIRED) items for the breakfast were expired and I had to alert the staff at breakfast. What kind of management is running this hotel?

Yelp
We stayed at the Tarrytown House Estate overnight for a wedding we attended at the venue. I arrived early and they were abale to accommodate an early check-in. I went down to the pool area and all the loungers around the pool were taken but I found one outside the gates and that was fine. They have a nice bar by the pool and the bartender makes nice strong drinks. The wedding we attended was in the Biddle Mansion. The ceremony was on the terrace and it was a lovely spot. The cocktail hour was in the front rooms of the mansion and they were lovely. The food was really good. There were meat and cheese boards, an Asian station, a taco station, and a raw bar. There were also several bars. The bartenders made great drinks. The ballroom where the wedding was held was really nice. Very modern and updated. The food for the meal wasn't the best. The salad was greens with a poached pear, pecans, and blue cheese. It was inedible because it was like they dumped a bunch of salt on top. The risotto we had in place of the crab cake was delicious. For my entree I ordered the filet mignon. It was only ok. The sauce it was served with tasted old. The steak itself was only ok. The mashed potatoes were awful. Undercooked and flavorless. Two people at my table had the fish and said it was terrible, but someone at another table said their fish was great. It's a good thing I had a lot to eat during the cocktail hour. I'm not upset about the food experience because I didn't spend the money and also, when it comes to wedding venues, my expectations are low. The hotel room was fine. We were in the Fairfield building. The room was clean although it smelled a little musty. My daughter said it smelled like it was close to an indoor pool. We spent almost no time in the room so it was fine. The bed and pillows were comfortable enough. It was fine for a wedding but I wouldn't stay here as a weekend guest looking for a getaway.

Yelp
if i could describe the tarrytown manor in one way, i'd be "instagram vs reality" bc this place is the 2024 winner of the biggest catfish in america bc there is no way in hell, those google reviews are real and that this place has 4+ stars on google. this is a PSA and my mission to let you know to NOT stay here. where do i begin? my bf and i have been wanting to explore more of the hudson area and decided to take a quick weekend trip here. on their website and on google, you'll find beautiful images of the property, all of which exists but not how you'd think it. everything here is living life on hard mode: everything is so complicated; more complicated than necessary. first, the estate itself is beautiful but the layout of this hotel will have you questioning your sanity. granted by the end of the weekend we figured it out a bit but our first night was a complete maze. the map the front desk provided could've been a treasure map for all we know bc it didn't help us one bit. the signage on the walls are incredibly unhelpful and outdated and it's basically trial and error until you navigate to your area. the room itself was FINE. outdated, yes and not really well kept but it did feel clean. if this review doesn't deter you from staying here and you end up actually willingly booking a room, i strongly strongly recommend you bring indoor slippers bc the carpet is damp, old and questionable. the tv requires 2 remote controls to turn on and off and streaming is but isn't an option from their provided list of titles. honestly, the gym was well equipped considering the rooms and have a squat bar, ez curl bars, free weights, a cable machine as well as some treadmills and peloton bikes. i'm giving it 2 stars bc at minimum the people working the front desk were extremely kind!

Yelp
I booked a trip here for my family for 2 nights but there were a lot of things that added up to a subpar experience. I had higher expectations than what was delivered based on their website descriptions. I called before our and was met with an uncaring tone from the employee. Then upon checkin there was a similar vibe, that the person was annoyed by our presence. This seemed to be a theme. There was not sufficient notice that there was a ton of walking and stairs to get to the room (no elevator), which was very difficult for my elderly mom who has some mobility issues. In retrospect we should have tried to move rooms but we didn't want to make a big deal at the time. The map and explanation given at check in was super confusing as was the parking situation (no where near the rooms). Getting the luggage to and from the car was an ordeal but luckily we were able to use the ONE luggage cart the hotel had. I will say the employees that helped with the luggage were the only ones that were helpful and we were grateful for them. But overall the condition of the place seemed like it needed repairs and deep cleaning. Doors to the building we stayed in not closing correctly and not locked (despite there being a sign on the door to keep it closed and that it was keycard entry, posing a security risk): The condition of the buildings were quaint but "past their prime". The room was super hot when we arrived with no AC on and the fridge not cold either. The big windows right outside our door in the hallway had a nice view of part of a roof and gutter filled with debris and spider webs. In the bathroom my sister unfortunately had two bugs fall on her, likely from them living in the vent in the ceiling. Then we dealt with a bizarre situation of not being able to enjoy the outdoor pool one day. It was packed with people and kids and we realized there was a big employee barbecue happening at the restaurant across from the pool and these were the employees and their families too. The pool wasn't closed for a private event but after trying to enjoy it, there was no room and my young niece kept getting hit by pool toys. It was obvious they should have closed it to guests but instead they just made it so unwelcoming that we left. So we couldn't use one of the amenities at the time we expected (with no notice). It was also odd for us to be around all these employees getting drunk around the guests. In fact, later when my sister and niece went in the main lobby building to ask to use the bathroom there, a very drunk employee had trouble understanding what she was asking for and my sister was very put off. Another amenity we couldn't use was the tennis court. It was not upkept and had tree and leaf debris all over. The final thing was an issue with our keycards themselves. We had a small issue with one the second day of our trip. Then the last morning of our trip we used the outdoor pool (since we couldn't the day before) then went back to our room to quickly change and get our luggage. None of our keycards worked and it wasn't check out time yet (it was about 20 minutes until checkout time). I had gone up to the main lobby to once again grab the one luggage cart and the valet there came with me to help with luggage. Luckily he was there since we couldn't enter our room. He had to use an employee keycard for us to get in. We asked him if they would have checked us out already and turned off our keycards even though it wasn't checkout time yet and he said yes. I have never dealt with that with any hotel I've ever stayed out. I'm rarely someone to complain but afterwards talking with my family more they convinced me it was worth leaving this review. Honestly, the main vibe we had while staying here was just ODD. Like super weird and unwelcoming vibes, little presence of employees around (except when they were having their event) and barely any other guests. I got the sense they cared more about the restaurant guests or people staying on the weekend instead of during the week. Overall I just think that all of these things eventually led to an experience we couldn't just brush off anymore. I wouldn't stay here again. I had expectations of a nice guest experience after researching multiple places to stay in the area, and even felt like my family was splurging to treat ourselves to a fancier place for our vacation. But ultimately what was advertised did not meet expectations. I would consider another place to stay when coming to the Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow area.

Yelp
I'm not even upset about the whole experience. To be honest, aside from the fact that we spent $800 - I can totally find the humor in the situation. To start off, this is absolutely the "catfish" of hotels. Tarrytown House Estate touts itself as a four star, luxury experience on its website but in reality has a more "trailer park/Motel 6" vibe and the lack of attention to detail is astounding. They mask it VERY well online. Red flag #1 : Check in - the first thing I noticed was old, wet rags sopping up a leak from the drink cooler in the lobby. These would remain there all weekend. During check in, the receptionist hand drew us a map trying to explain where everything on site was (which was a nice gesture, but very confusing and I felt like we were about to go on a treasure hunt). If I'm getting VERY picky, the nice gentleman who was there greeting us/opening the door was also texting and standing in the way when we went to leave - not a problem for me personally, but also not what you would expect at a "luxury" hotel. We found our way to our room in "the Atrium" - a wide open area of rooms with wonderfully gaudy jungle wallpaper. Red flag #2 : Pee Room - our first room was, well, unacceptable. You walked in and it felt like being in a cave - it was dark, the blinds were all pulled, and it was damp and smelled musty. The rug felt moist and as if it hadn't been washed in decades. We made the mistake of laying on the bed and my side of the bed SMELLED. LIKE. URINE. There was one pillow in particular which was damp and reeked. Immediately we called to switch rooms and were told "sure, we will move you next door". Our new room was much better cleanliness wise, but still very outdated. Red flag #3 : Whoever did the electrical work must have been either indulging in the leaky beverage cooler contents or had a severe case of vertigo because absolutely nothing in this hotel was hung straight. Light switches, chandeliers, faucets - everything was askew. As we drifted off to sleep, we were glad to note that at least someone was enjoying Pee Room - our bed was shaking rhythmically through the thin walls as someone broke their stinky, damp hotel room in. To each their own. I also shudder because there is no way that that room had been thoroughly cleaned between when we left and when they checked in. Red flag #4 : The next day, we attempted to use some of the on site amenities. When booking, it was listed that there was a hot tub on site. We searched around, nothing. Eventually we called the front desk and asked if there was a hot tub on site and the receptionist told us "No?", as if we were ridiculous for even asking. We didn't bother with the pool as it was full of kids, despite there being a sign that stated "Adults Only". On our way back from dinner in Yonkers, we walked through the lobby. There was a table of gift bags that said "one per room, please". Should we have inferred that it was for a wedding the next day? Perhaps. But when we asked the receptionist she sternly informed us that they weren't for us. No problem! (The dirty drink cooler towels were still there). Red flag #5 : The next morning, it was apparent that there had been a reception of some sort out on the patio. I note this because there were loads of half empty glasses of wine and beer cans all over the set tables, as if no one cleaned it up that night. I will say, on our way in we saw a herd of four beautiful deer grazing on the lawn, which was nice. It was kind of like seeing Mickey Mouse at Disneyland. Red flag #6 : My fiancé got charged almost a week later again for the price of the room. He called and it was fixed without issue...but...why? Not four star hotel behavior. Overall, we had a great weekend because the surrounding towns are beautiful and NYC is a stones throw away. The Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow Farmers Market was a must see. It's really sad that this hotel is run so poorly - with the beautiful grounds and historic buildings it really has such potential. Management is sloppy, to put it nicely. Tarrytown House Estate was the pits. Won't be back.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. I loved that the hotel was on an estate which allowed for some privacy from the surrounding community. It's location was ideal with only a short drive to area sites. The front desk staff was pleasant and accommodating. The common areas were clean and modern. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. Navigation to the room was a bit of a challenge. There were multiple buildings which were all connected. It felt like I was walking through a maze every time I needed to go back to my room. I did get lost in one instance. They offered breakfast buffet every morning which was not included in the cost of the room. There was a variety of items to choose from including a waffle station and an omelette station. A bit pricey for a buffet but the food was good.

Yelp
I lovedddd this place! The views were amazing is so peaceful, great to go with family or friends. I was in one of the balcony rooms and the view the sunset was perfect. Very spacious too. The pool and the open bar were perfect too!

Yelp
Unfortunately I had a very poor experience here and an even worse experience dealing with customer service after the fact. The first room I was given was dirty, musty, and had mold in the bathroom. After speaking with the front desk, they switched rooms but in the middle of the night our ceiling began leaking, getting water all over the window sill and getting our bags wet. I booked with Rocket Travel Bookings and because of that the hotel said there is nothing they can do and I'd have to work with who I booked the hotel through. Once I did that, you can see the response below. Bait and switch of passing the buck and no-one solving the issue. Rocket Travel Bookings via 7f486o1tqezo.1n-2bgqluau.na160.bnc.salesforce.com Sun, Oct 29, 3:48PM (2 days ago) to me Hi Josh, Thank you for your quick response and we understand the frustration where it was coming from. As you trusted us, this is not what we want our guests to experience however due to the regulations and policies of our booking partners there is nothing we can do. we tried our hardest to find a positive response however it had already been decided.More Date of stay: October 2023

Yelp
Beautiful location. Quiet and very beautiful location. Food and service were excellent. Problem with WiFi - if you are planning a business meeting or retreat this becomes a huge issue. Secondly, rooms can be smelly given the old rugs. Rugs need to be removed and replaced with new floors. Rugs are old and smelly. Bathrooms are old which is not really a problem but the bathtubs desperately need to have 2 wall handles to help guests enter and secure themselves while showing inside the tubs. This is especially necessary for older guests.

Kimberly D.

Yelp
The staff were extremely rude. The restaurant was great, but everything else was mediocre at best.

Margaret F.

Yelp
This is a beautiful property that is perfect for large wedding parties and conferences. The location is conveniently located near major attractions in Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown. It's on a hill, so be prepared to get some exercise, and I wouldn't say the complex is accommodating to anyone with disabilities (lots of hills, stairs, and steeper sloping paths), I was surprised given the website and the price at how dated the buildings and amenities felt upon arrival. For a purported four star hotel, the lobby felt like a Holiday Inn Express. The staff was overwhelmed by the wave of guests that arrived for the 4pm check-in (apparently there were 2-3 wedding groups at the hotel that weekend). Getting the room keys was fine, but I was given hardly any information on what amenities were where, the best place to park, or timings/cost of the buffet breakfast. Better yet, I had parked my car in line with every one else, and the valet came inside frantically trying to find me to ask me to move it so an impatient guest could back out. This could have been adverted if the check-in process was more efficient and the staff was equipped to manage guest expectations. The room itself was updated in decor, but it still felt dated and not worth the $500 a night charge. The carpet felt a little damp, so I was glad I packed slippers. The noise in the hallway also carried, which meant we heard every one and everything that passed by at night. I chose the room 'package' that allowed me to bring my dog. I've stayed on several dog friendly properties in the Hudson Valley, and this was light on the friendly! I had selected the pet friendly offer when booking, which certainly made the room more overpriced and there was no metaphoric "green carpet". The $100 fee was to also cover the welcome goodie box, which they apparently ran out of upon our arrival. This was communicated to friends of mine who checked in at the same time with their dog, but not to me. Better yet, our friends got the fee discounted off their bill, but I had to ask the reception at checkout to give me a discount for the inconvenience. The waver you need to sign at check-in was oddly aggressive, and I understand their liability concerns. That being said, threatening to call the ASPCA is not a 4 star hotel vibe. The thing that ultimately brought me to a 2 star rating was the fact the key cards were so sensitive. Mine deactivated 4 times in 48 hours, which means I had to trek to the front desk (even in my pjs with a dog in tow!) to have new ones made. It always happened at the most inconvenient times, and the front desk team seemed completely unsurprised. It was such a waste of time for everyone.

Yelp
I am not having a good experience at this hotel. I checked in with my family and my dog Yorkshire which was in the hands of my wife. My wife answered a call from reception around 11pm and by the way, the person was very rude stating that they would charge a fee of $100 because we had a dog in the room. Why didn't they tell me when I checked in? This is probably our last time at this hotel. If you have a dog, you will not be well received here. I received the letter regarding check out. They really charged me $ 100 Pet Fee and my yorkshire terrier teacup weighs 6 pounds and on the website reports that dog under 50 lbs is $50.

Kimberly L.

Yelp
We stayed here for a weekend getaway and had a great time! Room was huge with a nice bed. Staff were very friendly and went above and beyond on the few requests we had. I would recommend this place to anyone that wants to stay near sleepy hollow for one night or more. The place is a bit of a maze to find rooms but there are signs all over the place to direct you and a nice map is provided at check in with how to get to correct building.

Teresa T.

Yelp
This property has alot to be desired. It's very dated and the service was non-existent. I have never been to hotel that didnt have valet service. There was no elevator and we had to carry our bags to the room, up a couple flights of stairs. Luckily, we were only there for one night so didn't have large bags. No one was around except for housekeeping. There was one gal at check in who was not only unhelpful but unfriendly as well. We paid $260/night for a very unpleasant experience! Reading some of the 5 star reviews makes me wonder if we were in in a completely different place or if the person writing the review has very low standards.

Yelp
Came here for an escape from the city. So much potential to create a lovely experience, but tarrytown estate fell short in many ways. From the moment we even booked the hotel, we were met with so much attitude over the phone. This seems to be a running theme throughout the staff. Once we checked in, we made our way to our room in the King Mansion. We were so excited to stay here, as I'm a history/paranormal buff. Before we got in someone said that they had left a bunch of clothes in the drawer from staying in our room the previous night. (red flag #1 for cleanliness) We hadn't even been in the room for 3 minutes, when I found a bed bug (or tick! Either way unacceptable and undesirable) right on the left side of our bed. We called the front desk and the lovely receptionist with short hair was able to quickly accommodate us. We made our way to our new room and headed over to the Goosefeather. The hostess was absolutely awful. We asked for a table and were met with eye rolls and sighs from the jump. The kind hostess in training who was shadowing her led us to our table. Our server was equally lovely! We had a great time by the pool and enjoyed walking around the grounds. We went to continental breakfast the following day. It was $25 a person. We weren't expecting anything gourmet or fancy, but just simple breakfast of good quality. What we were met with was worse than a run of the mill Sheraton breakfast. Everything was cold, stale, and undesirable. The "chefs breakfast potatoes" gave me a laugh because it was literally just frozen hash brown patties. We just ended up picking at some fruit. Everything is so outdated. Wallpaper coming off the "premium" rooms, sticky substances on the walls, a bathroom that wasn't stocked etc. Our AC was even emitting the most rank smell. Considering most amenities are closed, you'd think they would do other things to elevate the experiences. Don't hate the time I spent here, as it really does have its charm! But definitely will not be coming back.

Yelp
So the property and grounds are lovely. I booked an "Executive Suite" to the tune of $300 plus a bunch of extra charges and resort fee. As you can see from the images, the disparity between what you get and pay for is significant. Our room was very run down, stains on the walls, furniture and carpet. The rooms need a refresh. Mid century Modern vibe just does not hit home. The shower/bathtub was strange. I felt like we had a suite at a Motel 6. I really wanted to love this place. Staff was very nice and other common areas nice but the room was incredibly overpriced.

Yelp
at 4:30 in the morning someone tried to break into my room. called downstairs and was told my room was not written down it's just a new guest. asked for security. was hung up on by front desk!! tried to call back and they wouldn't answer! security never showed. this is the worst hotel ever!! why is there no manager on site? why is there only one security person on? Will never stay again.

Yelp
Save your money. Overall disappointed with our 2 night stay. Contrary to how it was described, our room was not newly renovated. The decor is dated at best. The first night our room was worse than a sauna. Second night no heat at all. There is no information in the room. Expected something that listed information about restaurants, amenities, things to do in the area...possibly a menu for room service. The grounds are difficult to navigate due to either poor or non existing lighting. This is especially a concern while trekking from the (not free) parking lot to our room. I was very concerned that the main doors to our hotel did not close, forcing you to scan your room key. I overheard the reception area worker tell another guest that they didn't close/lock because they had onsite security. Hardly believable as we saw no one the numerous times we walked outside and to our cars. We felt $63.00 for breakfast was a bit outrageous and certainly not nearly worth the spend. Also outrageous was the 20.00 resort fee. When asked, I was told this was for the use of the pool, basketball court (its 12/1, we didn't use either) and "free parking". If you a charging a fee it is not free. I have stayed many many places domestically and internationally and have not been charged to use the pool, etc. Like I said, completely dissatisfied with this stay.

Yelp
We chose this hotel near our home to get away before our baby arrives in 3 weeks. The location is nice but the hotel room was not good. The thermostat to adjust the air did not work so we were freezing. The tv did not work and they never came to the room to fix it. We are still waiting 3 hours later. I called the front desk twice again and they are not answering. The worse part is some lady helped herself into our room, luckily the door stopper was on. She let herself in to ask if someone came to service our tv. We told her no, and we are still here waiting 1 hour after she came unannounced. It's sad because we wanted to enjoy a hotel night, but we're packing up to head home and get a full refund.

Yelp
we arrived at 3:50 PM and were anxious to check in quickly because it was a beautiful day and the outdoor pool is open until 8 PM. We also found out when we got there that the outside pool bar was only open till 6 PM which I did not understand, unfortunately there was a large wedding checking in as well which prevented us from a lengthy swim or a drink at the pool. in addition to the wedding party snafu there was some problem with the door keys to each individual room. Our neighbor frequently assisted us as we assisted her to to get in our room. We were a half hour late for our dinner reservation due to that fact. due to all this, I requested a late check out the following day which was granted, and we were given an hour. Someone had complained about Our TV being too loud, so to prevent any further problems suggested to the front desk that they move us somewhere else where we would be comfortable and we wouldn't bother, anyone with sensitive ears they moved us at 2 AM which we were fine with. Due to the fact that we switched rooms they didn't get the memo that we had a late check out. The person that came to the door was very rude and was demanding that we vacate our room. I instructed her to contact the front desk get caught up to speed with us, switching rooms, etc. due to the fact that we had to argue at length about this that swallowed up my hour of a late check out. I had then asked to pay the $75 for an additional hour which they told me was not available without even checking prior, which I feel was due to the fact that I was being profiled due looks and ethnicity . I did request to speak to the manager, but was confronted by two 20something year-olds at the desk who were rude and condescending and who definitely should not be working in customer service Finally, when I spoke to the manager, 25 minutes LATER as I waited in the lobby for him he brushed it off as if my grievances were petty. ( and did not accommodate my request for the additional hour so I could go in the pool, which is what I missed on the first day in the first place.) The people in the restaurant were very nice and the front desk people in the wee hours of the morning were extremely helpful and kind, but the others left a real bad taste in my mouth for the Tarrytown house (because of fumbllong with Our door /key so much and we're half hour late for our reservation one of the only things that I was really looking forward to eating, which was the soft shell crabs on the menu was sold out by the time I got there for my 10 year anniversary dinner)

Yelp
TL;DR: DO NOT waste your money!! I just returned from an overnight stay with my husband. I booked it as a surprise New Year's Eve trip for us. The photos depicting a castle overlooking the Hudson looked so picturesque and the village so quaint, I figured our experience would justify the price tag. Incorrect. This place is a dump. The interior is reminiscent of a Traveler's Lodge off of I-95 circa 1992 after a hot and and humid summer season and a dehumidifier on the fritz. The front desk staff needs to learn how to dress and present themselves properly and professionally. Rolling your eyes and snapping your gum while I'm forking out over $300 a night (breakfast not included) is unbecoming, ladies. This place has so much potential and probably was spectacular in its heydey. That day has hey'd. Stay elsewhere.

Yelp
This estate is spectacular! If you are ever visiting sleeping hollow area, this is the spot to stay at! I went a couple of years back for a seminar for work. My co-workers and I had a lovely experience and were able to bond by the fire pit. I recently stayed the weekend with my fiancé and noticed a couple of changes. I was not to happy with all the extra furniture that was placed on the lawn, it takes away from the property. However, when the sun went down the lights were beautiful under the night sky. That was a plus. The water in the indoor pool was cold and I didn't see any buttons to adjust the temperature, so I didn't get to swim. The sauna was good, I was able to meditate while at the same time sweat. The rooms were clean. The bathroom could have use a ventilation system because I had to smell the toilet from bathroom in our room, so we definitely had to keep the bathroom door closed. Other than that I had a relaxing experience. If you are ever in the New York and want to enjoy the scenic views of the Hudson, stay at this estate! I recommend this place!

Yelp
My wife and I arrived at tarrytown and were greeted by a valet - but not for the hotel, the restaurant. OK - but were told you cant park here to check in sorry...well, maybe for a few minutes hurry up. Checking in involved handing us room key cards and front desk tells us a bellman will be out to our car to carry our luggage up the 2 flights of stairs...no elevator, but the building was built in the 1800's...no one showed up. I carried 4 bags up what equaled 4 fights of stairs. Get to the room and 1st key card doesnt work - red light on lock. 2nd key card is green, but turns out room is deadbolted shut with a key. Trip 1 back down stairs to front desk...new keys and to get someone to open the deadbolt. New key cards - 1 works...for a few minutes and have to kick door to open it after they unlocked the deadbolt. Once inside room, closet door stuck shut, sink faucet dangling from its mount, towel bar fell off the wall when i touched it, shower took 10 min to get hot water. At this point our front desk guy Francisco gives us 50% off room. Since there is no printed hotel guide in room, or phone, and no one gave us any kind of familiarization about the property when we checked in, we decide to go out to dinner - but as we are leaving decide to check the key cards on the door...red light on lock neither work..,Trip 2 back to front desk for more keys. Enjoy a nice dinner out and and come back - keys dont work cant get in room. Trip 3 back to front desk and staff come to room with yet more key cards and let us in...they fixed the dangling sink faucet while we were out. But staff chooses to walk away from us as we were expressing our discontent - in a very respectful manner, but claimed we were yelling at her. NOT TRUE. We respect that people are put into situations with their hospitality jobs that put them in the line of fire of people that are dissatisfied with their experience and blame them- we recognize that there can be lapses in service but do expect the situation to be resolved. This property has substantial issues with its management, workflow, and hospitality training with its staff. I would hope that the General manager of this facility would take these comments to heart and provide the proper stop gaps in the work flow to prevent this kind of poor experience in this historic location. To the credit of the staff, we did receive one night complimentary for our troubles, but never coming back again. CATFISH!!!

Yelp
Trash service, staff is rude and useless. The only highlight is goosefeather, which was excellent.

Yelp
Beautiful property , bed was clean, restroom smelled like urine, rest of the room smelled fine, the carpet looked like it needed a good shampooing, and everything else looked clean. Overall good experience just wish they'd bleach the restroom to get rid of the funk!

Yelp
Just stayed for a work conference. This place has a VERY high opinion of itself. Outside from photos looks charming, even majestic. Outside in person looks old, deteriorating, and unkempt. The rain gutters had weeds growing out of them and the water buckets inside were necessary because the water was backing up. Interior was musty, and OLD. This is not a cute theme-- it's because the furniture hasn't been updated in years. Very disappointing for the price. Speaking of prices- $11 for a bottle of beer and $20 for a single finger of bourbon is just wrong. The two stars is strictly for the buffet suppers and quality of the food, which was very good. The snack/drink setup in the carriage house was also excellent. Overall- don't believe the pictures. Definitely not worth what this business thinks they are.

Yelp
To make matters worse when I had to change rooms in the King House from 293 (that leaks when it rains) to 393 (which now made me have to walk up 3 flights of stairs instead of 2) I made the error of leaving a small shopping bag with 2 necklaces I had purchased behind in my room. I didn't realize it until I arrived home on Saturday. After multiple telephone calls and talking to the manager I guess I will never see my new necklaces again. So much for honest employees.

Genie B.

Yelp
So disappointing. Marc Gordon of Rubicon, the owner, needs to spend more time carefully hiring qualified people to run this property. No doubt, This is a beautiful location with tremendous history and gorgeous views of the Husdon River. BUT!!!! It is sticky, smells and is dirty with lack luster regular employees wandering with no energy around the grounds - they look disinterested. It could be a spectacular spot for a wedding or weekend getaway...but it isn't due to its lack of cleanliness. This is a gorgeous property being very poorly managed. First where is the manager? The person with ultimate authority to direct employees and keep up higher standards? The Customer and their comfort should be paramount. Alas, we arrived and the valet looked like he was so uninterested in his job, sitting with elbows on knees head down. There was a guy who looks like a driver for the property lounging in a chair next to the car with the estate logo on it. The outdoor sitting area had old cigarette butts on the ground. The main lobby at the check-in smelled odd not a nice smell. An employee shared that the smell might be something that was being cooked at Goosefeathers - a cantonese restaurant- which is separate from the hotel. No there is no room service - no food on site except the specialized restaurant on-site. Food is catered by event but not for anyone staying at the hotel. We were told we could uber in food. The carpeted floors looked dirty, the staff seem seriously disinterested in our presence - rather than a polite hello can I help you, they seemed to scurry away...to avoid work. We found a fruit breakfast bar left out at 2pm near an area where an event had taken place - no sneeze guard...who does that these days? . There were indications that there are problems with the air conditioning in the Summer. "It gets really hot in July" was the comment. Why tell us this? Unless the AC doesn't work? This is a gorgeous property which requires constant upkeep - which it isn't getting......with the right owner it could be a Spa or beautiful getaway from NYC , if experienced hospitality professionals were employed. But it all seems to be on a shoe string. Someone take hold of this place and bring it to a berkshire spa like place....I know the buildings need updates....but the bones are there, the location is gorgeous the history is wonderful......Marc Gordon, Rubicon -do something.

Yelp
Underwhelmed - to say the least. Whoever took the photos and wrote the copy for their website is a marketing genius. This hotel is like a 70's style roadside motel. The grounds are pretty, but that's about it. No greeting upon check-in, dank, dated and smelly room, and facilities that look like they're years past their prime. The onsite restaurants were overpriced and totally meh. It seems like management and the staff stopped caring about the hotel and the experience many, many years ago.

Michael L.

Yelp
Beautiful property, quick escape out of NYC but lots of history in the estate hence a bit old. However they have everything you need starting from a view from the balcony rooms gym sauna indoor poor!

Reviewer B.

Yelp
This hotel is significantly overly priced considering: (1) the staff is completely rude; and (2) the staff tolerates guests being drunk and loud and disturbing other guests. First, my wife had a couple of issues at the front desk where the people that run the place were short with her. At one point, she went to see if the bar was open, and the employee said in a loud accusatory fashion to her: "WHAT DO YOU WANT?!!!" Second, we had to leave at 6:00 AM for a flight out of LaGuardia. Unfortunately, the hotel hosted a wedding and there were guests loudly walking up and down the halls all night talking loudly and laughing. Worst of all, the people in the room above us were being very noisy. When we complained to the management they began marching around their room, and banging on the floor, and the hotel management didn't do anything to stop them. We'll absolutely never stay here again, and the only surprise is that the hotel's overall rating is above a 2. No one should have to pay to stay in a place like this.

Kim D.

Yelp
A $300+ room for one night and no hot water. Called the front desk and got no answer. No surprise with two weddings the place is completely booked. A quick walk over and the kind desk clerk said 'no problem, the engineer will be there in 10 minutes'. One hour later, no engineer. Another walk over, and the desk clerk can't make eye contact. "sorry, can't get a hold of engineer'. So I ask for another room. No, we are completely booked. Ok. Can I get a discount? Oh no, 'cause you booked with bookings.com. So I made $300+ for no not water. No engineer to fix it. No options. Not worth it, people.

Gregg M.

Yelp
Do not stay here. They will keep your credit card number on file and charge you fraudulently later. Then they'll blame it on your credit card company. Crooks. I wish I could leave zero stars.

Lisa D.

Yelp
PLEASE READ. My family and I were kicked out this hotel under false accusations of making noise and smoking weed in the hotel. I have never in my life been falsely accused like this. We had to leave the hotel in the middle of the night with a baby under FALSE accusations. We weren't making noise or smoking weed in the hotel room. No one checked the room which we asked multiple times to do so. In addition Connor an employee stated when we get kicked out he will be laughing. This is how an employee speaks to their guests. I informed the manager and nothing has been done.

Antonia L.

Yelp
We have been coming here for 8 years doubt we will be back. New owners clearly do not know how to select staff or train their team, there is a lack of common sense, order, rule following. For example we were told the pool was closed yet when we walked by several folks were in the pool, when we told Sonia the operations manager she said ohhh I have to get them out. You are allowed to save chairs at the pool so head down at 7 am by 9 am there are no chairs left beware !!! They will pick and choose who has to sign a waiver to use the pool - feels like discrimination. Seriously don't waste your time with this place. All of their signs talk to their old restaurant cellar 49, I believe it has been closed now for 3 years.

Scott P.

Yelp
Reservations: "The pools and hot tub are both open!" Me: "The indoor pool has no water, the outdoor pool is closed, and there is no hot tub." Staff: "The pool will open in two days" Front Desk: "The reservations people and the staff are wrong. We get that a lot. The pool is closed due to the County weather office." Me: "This county does not have a weather office, and the pool is now open." Front Desk: "There are people in the pool? It's closed! It will open at 7 am." Staff at 8 am: "Get out of the pool while we vacuum it - the pool is closed while we vacuum." Sign: "Adults only pool & bar" Me: "The bar is closed, and children are in the pool." Staff: "You should sit on the other deck because the cushions on this deck are wet." Me: "I'd like to speak with the manager." Operations Director: "You can't speak with the manager because he's sick. I just spoke with him, and the pool is closed."

Yelp
My cousin had her wedding weekend at Tarrytown House Estate and I was as a bit uneasy after reading the reviews (most of the recent ones aren't very positive) but I had a completely different experience. Our stay was pleasant. The grounds are full of very well manicured gardens, however the paths could use some work. I can't imagine being in a wheelchair, or even walking with a cane, on some of the hills and broken walks. Additionally, they could benefit immensely from some additional signage to help guide their guests. Our guest room was in Putnam, and the air conditioning was cranked up and waiting for us when we arrived, which was much appreciated since it was over 90° and high humidity outside. The room was clean and there was a comfy window seat, mini-fridge, and hair dryer for use. There were only 2 bath towels and 1 wash cloth in the bathroom. For a double occupancy room this was not sufficient. After putting our things in the room we headed to the outdoor pool. Again some additional signage would be helpful - opening the gate was a struggle and another guest had to help us. Every subsequent person coming to the pool had to be told by another guest how to finagle the gate to enter. Towels were provided at the pool and there's also a bar, but be prepared to pay $9 for a domestic beer. The welcome reception was Friday night at the mansion. The food was fantastic but the room was very, very warm (when we returned the next day for cocktail hour and the day after that for farewell brunch it was significantly cooler). The rooms where these events were held is charming with features like gorgeous wood floors and leaded glass windows. The wedding reception was in the Mary Duke ballroom, which was much larger and more modern than the rest of the building. Again the food and waitstaff were stellar. In addition to what I already mentioned about the signage and the paths, the parking situation is a nightmare. There is not parking available near the guest rooms and we did not see any luggage carts. This means you either have to valet the car or hoof it with your luggage in multiple trips. We opted for the free option since everything else was already so expensive ($25 a head for breakfast buffet!!!). I think with some pretty basic improvements, this place could be elevated and generate reviews with more stars.

J D.

Yelp
Beautiful grounds but the hotel is at best 2 star quality. The windows in my room didn't open, thermostat was totally inoperable, shower door didn't stay closed, shower handle falls off, no shampoo left by housekeeping on multiple nights, and no towels left on one day. I have a high tolerance for basic hotels and amenities, but wouldn't come back here.

Sarah U.

Yelp
This place is the biggest waste of money I've ever spent just to attend a wedding. What they have in historic architecture and landscape on the outside does not even remotely make up for what it is like on the inside. There are rooms with damp carpets, wallpaper that bubbles out from the walls, toilet paper holders that fall out of the wall, and outlets AND toilets that just stop working. As for the amenities, there was no luggage cart available to help us carry all of our things, the restaurant and bar is closed until 5pm every day, and the pool is only open two days a week. With all of these amenities closed or inoperable, there's absolutely nothing to do at this "estate" other than watch someone get married. During the rest of your time here, you will have to find ways to go off site if you actually want to enjoy yourself on your trip. Which most people come here so they can be all in one place and don't have to leave. Until they fix all of these things (and more), this place is not worth the price you pay to stay.

Sara K.

Yelp
I came here for a big bash of a wedding. It's a gorgeous estate, and the grounds are pretty vast. The food was terrific. The rooms really need to be updated, but I understand that in this bizarre economy it would be a difficult task. If you are looking for a gorgeous venue for a big wedding, or any other party it's well worth it!

Alice L.

Yelp
Charming historic property, well manicured grounds, clean, safe, quiet. Beautiful outdoor dining at restaurant on site, Goosefeather. Room service is provided by Goosefeather but comes with a $10 room service fee. Ordered only the barbecued octopus with room service. With fees, taxes and 18% gratuity, it was $54. I stayed in the Rockland building; room was clean, average decor. Double bed room- one bed was very comfortable while the other one made me think I had a severe back problem. This estate is a desirable place for a large venue and accommodation of guests.Otherwise, the fees they tack on make the price steep a little too steep.

Yelp
I booked this spot for a quick weekend getaway from NYC. Looking at the reviews, I was very skeptical of the hotel and even considered cancelling a few days prior. I couldn't find anything else in the area so I decided to take my chances. Upon arrival, I was checked in fairly quickly and the hotel staff walked us through the "amenities" - which just included the gym and a racquet ball court - and the map. Next, we went to our room and was surprised at how nice it was. I will say I was just trying to find faults at this point but it was very clean and exactly as shown in the pictures. I did feel our heat wasn't strong enough so a repairman showed up and fixed the vents after which we never had an issue. Pros: Room was clean, staff was friendly and will make sure you're happy with the service, Goosefeather restaurant was fantastic Cons: there were no real amenities open at the hotel but they didn't charge a resort fee so I was ok with that, they only had regular TV working which was very annoying on a snow day when there was literally nothing else to do, there's no dining options after 11am until dinner which was surprising to me but not a total con because you can always order in from a local restaurant Overall good experience! I recommend going around the summer or when there's more amenities open

Vanessa M.

Yelp
Save your money and go elsewhere. The grounds are pretty but the rooms are 1 star at best. My cold water didn't run, the bathroom was falling apart literally paint peeling of the walls and hair everywhere. The carpet is ripped and coming up from the floor and upon arrival my tv didn't work had to have someone come service it. Would not stay here again.

Amy S.

Yelp
Was I shockingly disappointed by this "hotel". We called to verify that there was not a wedding as we heard it was very loud when they had weddings. The desk clerk lied about nit having a wedding. We arrived and were in Putnam, the toilet ran forever, shower had no water pressure, the wedding guests woke us at 12:32am by literally yelling down the hallway and slamming doors. The entry was warped steps woth a rock to hold the door open. The hallway smelled of urine and the hotel room was far from comfortable including old beds on cheap medal frames. This was not worth the price when we checked out we mentioned our concerna to the front desk who literally said nothing just handed the receipt. Would I ever even consider staying here again?NO Would I ever recommend this place?NO. When the leadership of the hotel does not care that your stay was bad they will not get recommendations or another visit!

Rose G.

Yelp
Well let me start was not impression that it was supposed to be a really nice motel it wasn't it was like staying in an apartment building No balconies the windows and open up all the way so you can get fresh air in breakfast was not included which should've been for the price the toilet ran the sink drain got stuck close it even give you water in your fridge raiderI've been a nice hotels breakfast in a stone building that cost about 100 two people snd it sucked no spa no nothing for a big hotel like this I was not impressed at all coffee maker didn't work the toilet ran thing I can say about the hotel is that it was clean the room that's it everything else was not impressed can you get to outside to stand by the fire because they had two weddings and cut the extra people off and want to do anything for us it was all about the wedding Bar was close couldn't go there either they put outside chairs on the front lawn with no fire This is a very sad motel so if I was you save your money and go someplace else

Yelp
Rude awakening. Don't do it! It bums me out to have to give such an awful review. I love promoting businesses sadly this was too bad of an experience to not say something... Sadly this was an absolutely terrible experience. The women I booked and modified my reservation with on the phone were very nice but also quite slow, which was fine as they were very helpful. Or so I thought, I was told the room I was booking was a nice one. I would have upgraded if I have more accurate information. One woman was very helpful in making a dinner resi for us, however once we checked in - I called the front desk to see if we could go to dinner earlier and not only was she unkind but unhelpful and bordering rude. At check in, my note about a room with a short walk as my mom cannot walk well was NOT in the notes. The guy we checked in with was nice friendly, supplied NO information, after talking about my mom not being able to really walk he gave us a room that we had to drive to and he said there were only "a couple of steps" to get into the building. He was very wrong, Not only were there actually 12 steps, which might sound like a few however for someone not able to walk is a LOT. But also, this really ticked me off, but the guy did NOT EVEN MENTION there was a place I could drop my mom for an elevator, I happened to find it and it was horribly next to the service garage. Also, when we called to go to dinner early, I said that was fine (she also said they DO NOT make reservations with the restaurant and even after I told her another woman did she implied continuously I was wrong and even "confirmed" with her colleagues, BUT after this horrible, unfriendly interaction I asked if there was a tea time or happy hour of sorts that some boutique hotels have, she laughed rudely and said "no, you can buy chips at the front desk" and even even worse, she did not even mention the lawn chairs out front(at the time we didn't know about) to sit in if we wanted to enjoy the property before dinner. The bathroom felt like a motel style bathroom, decor and all. The soaps all in mini plastic bottles are HORRIBLY bad for the environment, get with it and overall this was a terrible stay. The rest of the building does NOT look like the 'castle' style in pictures which is the main building. The walk to the pool from our room was a maze, through 2 buildings. The ONLY highlight was the restaurant on property that obviously is not theirs, which is why it was an excellent experience. The only pro besides the kind but sadly inaccurate women on the phone, was they allowed us to check in early.

Laneesha W.

Yelp
My family and I stayed in the Putnam building for one night last weekend. The grounds are beautiful and outside of our buildings was a beautiful view of the water. Check in was a smooth process for my mother in law and we were able to get into our rooms slightly early. There are a few buildings on the property so it could be a little hard to figure out where your building is and the street inside of the property is a one way. If you pass your building you would have to go all the way around again. I didn't try the on site restaurant but it seemed to have some nice offerings. The room was clean and nicely decorated and the heat worked well.
