A Casual New Tartine Cafe Saunters Into the Heart of Pasadena - Eater LA

"Tartine has opened a new cafe space on the ground floor at 277 W. Green Street in Pasadena. The location is bustling with early morning customers and offers outdoor cafe tables and takeaway items. The menu includes pastries, breads, and coffee drinks, with hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily." - Farley Elliott

The Best Gluten-Free Baking Recipes | Eater

"Liz Prueitt’s sorghum flour brownies are praised as possibly the best brownies the reviewer has ever eaten, striking an ideal balance of a crackly crust and a fudgy interior. They’re intensely chocolatey — aided by roughly a pound of chocolate — yet surprisingly easy to make (essentially a dump-and-stir recipe), producing rich, bakery-quality results." - Eater Staff

Very tasty! I’ve visited a few times and have enjoyed a delicious breakfast sandwich, strawberry danish, and yogurt parfait. It is a higher price point than some bakeries but to me, its higher quality. The food is flavorful and not overly sweet. Usually the yogurt in parfaits are full of sugar but not at Tartine, I think they use plain yogurt which was refreshing. Staff was nice. they only have outdoor seating. I go early and have found free street parking. there were short lines inside but I’m there early and that probably depends on the time of day.

Very nice croissants, breads and other baked items! Coffee is usually really good, they have a great selection of coffee beans available, however a few times one of the baristas burned my coffee or milk. So, it depends on who is in charge of the coffee machine. Most of the time is good. Nice cute vibe and great service.

Have you heard of Tartine bakery? If not, should head over to the newly opened Tartine in Pasadena and try their pastries and breads and then you know why you should definitely know this bakery. They are famous for their artisan pastry and breads. In fact, Tartine was on Neflix’s second season Chef Show. In the show, Chad Robertson, the co-owner showed the TV host Jon Fareau and Roy Choi how to make sourdough bread. Every time I go to San Francisco, I have to visit Tartine to get their croissant and sourdough sandwich even though I have to wait in a long line. The bread truly is spectacular, with incredible flavor and texture that may just ruin mass-produced sliced bread for visitors who fall in love with the good stuff. Tartine’s San Francisco cafe is a carb-lover’s paradise, with multiple different types of delicious rustic and classic French bread recipes baked up fresh daily. When I heard that Tartine is opening a bakery in Pasadena, I was excited and looking forward to its opening. I finally got a chance to visit the bakery today after church. Got myself a regular and an Almond croissant, a sourdough turkey sandwich for my wife and a cup of coffee and ice tea. The croissants are heavenly. They are very butterly and crispy. I loved the multilayer structure of the croissant. That’s indication of a good crafted pastry. No wonder Tartine has won so many awards. With technical prowess and refined creativity leading to delicious results, Tartine has won a number of prestigious food awards. It won a James Beard Award for excellence in baking and pastry, and it’s regularly named to “best of” lists in the Bay Area and for the United States as a whole. So now that Tartine is here locally with locations throughout LA, we don’t have to go to SF in order to get the taste of the famous and delicious breads and pastries.

Get an incredible loaf and get out. I drove up to go specifically here and was a little let down. Their book is nicer than the actual place. I guess I was picturing baking heaven, not an overpriced cafe & bakery. The rest is all delicious but it was $16 for a piece of toast and an avocado. I just feel like they could have given me 1 more piece of toast to make it a sandwich or scrape away some of the 10 avocados they put in this one piece of toast. Just felt bad and visually disappointing. The book and images online were so promising! The marketing for this place is good, they just didn’t live up to the hype. If I ever pass one, A Tartine Bakery, I’ll consider getting one of their incredible looking loaves, but I can get similar baked goods elsewhere and for less without sacrificing quality.

Delicious food and friendly staff! Only outdoor seating available.

Google
This is definitely the most chill of all the Tartines that I’ve visited (both in SF and LA). I always order my bread loafs online and swing by to pick them up. The coffee is lovely and the pastries are always on point. The raspberry cornmeal pastry and lemon tart are definite standouts. They have a nice seating area outside (no indoor seating), which is lovely for a lunch or coffee rendezvous.

Why charge $1.25 extra for oat milk with no included options that aren’t extra for people with lactose intolerance. Oat milk can’t be that much more expensive if at all then normal milk at this point… I don’t support any business that doesn’t give included options for people who don’t want dairy. 🙁💔

I’ve been visiting Tartine for a few years when I’m visiting my relatives in the area. I have been going there because their cortado is excellent! However, I was so excited to see that they added a gluten free muffin to their menu. (Made with Teff) WOW! Best gf muffin I’ve had to date.

Yelp
I constantly recommend my neighbors and my friends to come to this petite lovely place. Even my French neighbors complimented the baguette and croissant here. Also the tuna melt is something you don't want to miss. To me, it's not only the delicate food but also the warm friendly smiles on each person I see when I go, especially the male cashier. One morning, I had to order a bunch to have enough for my parents. The packaging and warm greetings lighted up my day. Picturing yourself sitting in the shade on a lazy Sunday morning sipping matcha latte, this is one of the gems in Pasadena. Don't tell your friends, the line has grown longer and longer.

Yelp
Met a few friends here on a Sunday morning for brunch. We placed our order inside and sat outside under the shade of the big tree. It's nice and cool at this time of day, perfect for hanging out with friends. I ordered the pressed ham and Gruyère sandwich, while my friends chose the egg sandwich, the pressed spiced turkey sandwich, and a couple of pastries to share. I loved my ham and Gruyère sandwich and give it a 5 out of 5 stars. My friends all enjoyed their food as well. As for the pastries, the sweet scone and the lemon poppyseed tea cake really stood out--definitely worth ordering again. The regular croissant and the chocolate croissant were fine, but nothing you can't get elsewhere. Overall, we all enjoyed this place. The food, the service, and the outdoor seating area were all wonderful.

Yelp
Everyone at this location is rude and acts as if they aren't getting paid to assist you. Came here after a friend mentioned they bake croissants fresh daily. I was expecting an amazing croissant+experience after being greeted by their aesthetic. The croissant was dry and the extremely underwhelming as it had no density despite how fluffy it appeared. Had a bit of a burnt taste. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Yelp
Moved to Pas last summer and didnt't realize until today that we have a TARTINE here, oh my my. Did a sando, coffee and gf cookie and all was 10 out of 10. As a GF eater, the sourdough still works for my tummy which makes the options here endless and yummy. Parking was a challenge given it was Sunday but can't wait to come back here. What's doesn't Pasadena have to offer its locals. This truly made my week!

Yelp
Fast service, delicious, high quality bread!!!, great hot latte. Scrambled egg toast was so good. Note: only outside, all in the shadow (~10 tables)

Yelp
Hidden spot in Pasadena. First time here and I'm impressed by the choices. I bought a chocolate croissant. Crispy outside. Not enough chocolate!

Yelp
Located on a quiet street on the edge of Old Town. This a a good option if you're visiting the Norton Simon, and want a better variety for coffee and pastries rather than eat at the onsite cafe. Just around the corner from the museum! The morning bun was on a lot of reviews so I knew I had to order it! Paired with the morning bun latte, it definitely made a nice afternoon treat. I noticed a lot of people were buying loaves of bread, and the cakes looked really good as well so I'll have to come back and try those at some point!

Yelp
This TARTINE location in Pasadena is located to the west of the truncated 100 Freeway, on the other side of bustling Old Town Pasadena. The vibe is certainly more relaxed and the free two-hour parking on the street certainly helps. There was no line to get in and no line to order. Shelves of their awesome bread are available. But once again, I got sidelined and got their Lemon Tart and their Seasonal Hand Pie, which happened to be apricot in October. Ugh... these pies are flawless as always. The crystal sugars coating ALL sides of the hand pie... the flaky flaky goodness... the apricot filling is awesome. The crust on their tarts are solid and holds up the filling very well... while still crumbles butterfully. The CORTADO is creamy and chocolatey. Sigh.... I'm ever so thankful Tartine decided to move south.

Yelp
Came here for lunch with friends on a random Tuesday. I wasn't exactly sure how to order, since there was both a menu and grab and go. I ended up doing grab and go for their Tuna salad sandwich, which was fantastic. Their snack/pastries were really good too. I like that you can pick up loaves of bread as well. I also tried their special apple juice which was amazing, serve it over ice and it's perfect. We ate outside on their patio (only space to eat) which was nice since it's beneath a tree and you can have silverware or disposable. It was very fast to order and to get food, so great place for an outdoor catch up with up to a group of four.

Yelp
You come here for one thing and one thing only, their sourdough bread. Their sourdough is phenomenal, the best I have found outside of San Francisco. Super flavorful and moist. $8.75 for half a loaf. Their pastries suck they're not anything like the ones in San Francisco so don't get your hopes up. They're wildly overpriced, yeah I paid $18 for a tuna sandwich, just a plain old tuna sandwich, with hardly any tuna on it. Yup it was good, nope it wasn't worth the price. See my previous review for what I thought of the pastries. I also tried the lemon tart, which I remember being excellent in SF, and the filling was absolutely delicious, but the crust was too thick for my liking.

Yelp
I got the green goddess salad and matcha latte after taking a yoga class next door at YogaSix, and it was the perfect refreshing snack while I waited for the next yoga class! Filling yet light, and refreshing as well with the added dill, cucumbers and radishes. The staff was very friendly, and I love that you can see inside the bakery! And the outdoor seating is great this time of year to just relax.

Eli C.

Yelp
I absolutely love the tuna melt from this place - it's the best I've ever had. The super friendly cashier, always wearing a cute pearl necklace, greets me with a big smile every time. I try to go every weekend; it's become a Sunday staple for me. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
We probably should have ordered what they are known for, but we had the quiche and the breakfast sandwich. Also bought a sliced half loaf of bread. It's in a quiet part of Green St so it's nice to sit outside. The service is fine. Order and then get a number. Both of our meals were ok. Good, but pricey. The loaf was delicious and I am really enjoying that. I would return for the bread.

Yelp
The food is amazing but the staff is not. They seem like they are numb and are hating their jobs. You walk in and there is no greeting or a smile. They barely talk and acknowledge you. Such a shame for such a great company to have this kind impression on their customers. Maybe management needs to be out there more often and teach them people skills.

Yelp
3.4 stars I had every intention of going to the gym this morning, but I ended up here instead! I knew of this bakery in NorCal, but have never actually tried it. So, I'm glad to be able to try it today. I got here at exactly 7:57am and by 8am+ there was a line behind me. When I left, much of the street parking had filled up! So, already, I can kinda see parking might be an issue later in the day. This visit, I only got 3 items - Ham & Cheese Croissant ($6.75), Vegetable Quiche ($8.75), and a Savory Scone ($5.75). The best pastry was the Ham & Cheese Croissant. The croissant was perfectly flaky and delicious. The other 2 items were salty to me. For the Quiche, I couldn't really tell what kind of vegetables were in it. I think there was asparagus and maybe artichoke, but, in all honesty, I couldn't really tell. The Savory scone had broccolini and cheddar in it and, unfortunately, I found it to be really salty. I think I would have liked it better without the salt crystals on top. I probably would have given this bakery a higher star rating if it had a designated parking lot, indoor and outdoor seating. However, I just thought the location amd parking is inconvenient and the prices too high for it to be just a take-out spot. Overall, I think the Pasadena location is not my kind of bakery, but I'd probably try the one in Santa Monica next time.

Yelp
Great pastries and coffee. I love its presentation and taste Thank you Tartine for coming to Pasadena :). I wish you were closer to green street but love you anyway :)

Yelp
Stopped by to pick up an entire loaf of bread, but they don't offer cutting services. Whole Foods does. Instead, u can opt to buy the half loaf precut bread, which when you do the math, is 20% more expensive. Croissants are 6.75$ a pop! Automatic employee heath charge 4%, but also asks for a tip. They don't tell you up front, so if you're not paying attention, it sucks. Somehow, I still miss the SF location. I'll just go to WF nearby next time.

Yelp
lovely secluded space off the beaten path in Old Town Pasadena. Excellent educated well-trained staff. And of course Tartine's fantastic food. I sometimes take a different route just to "happen to drive by!"
google avatar

Yelp
I was in the mood for a bagel when I came so I was in that realm of cheesy savory taste. The menus are secured to the front counter where you order so I felt pressured to pick fast. I ended up letting someone go ahead of me but felt like I was crowding them trying to look at the menu. They had a QR code but it didn't seem to work which the guy knew it was tricky. Wish they had paper menus or a menu earlier in line because there is a stress factor in the ordering process. I ordered a potato danish and it was SO good! Goat cheese, thyme and a tomato paste sauce inside. Full of unique flavor! Overall could come back to to try more things
google avatar

Kevin L.

Yelp
It's ok. Pastries are pretty good albeit pricey. Breakfast sandwiches are also pretty good. A brunch for two with 1 pastry, 1 sandwich and 2 drinks will set you back about $50. If you have a large bag full of money or are out on a date to impress, Tartine might be worthwhile. But for regular guy me, a donut and a coffee from a local donut shop or breakfast pastries and sandwiches from Porto's (10 min drive West in Glendale) would do me and my family much better.
google avatar

Yelp
Having heard so much about the Tartine I wanted to try it. The place is small but has everything you need. I immediately found the baguette and some other sliced bread who is the lady in front of me said they sell out fast. They also sell a variety of baked goods, sandwiches, and of course several of coffee and tea drinks. There is no inside seating, its only outside. Which to me didn't matter since I was grabbing the goods to go. The staff were very helpful and quick to help. I brought home the baguette, sliced bread, a slice of the lemon poppy, and Marble cakes. Look no further THE BREAD is by far the tastiest in town. Will be going back.
google avatar

Marilan L.

Yelp
Finally got a chance to try a few of the pastries at Tartine and they did not disappoint! I got their sweet danish and a fruit tart and out of the two the fruit tart was my favorite! It was overflowing with fresh blueberries and raspberries, and the filling wasn't overly sweet. The sweet tart dough was not overly baked and complimented the cream filling. As for the sweet danish, the top was filled with a light cream cheese filling with abbot of passion fruit on top. There wasn't a lot of the filling which was a bit of a disappoint since it felt like I was eating mostly pastry. The pastry was super crispy but not burnt and had a light sugar glaze on top. Overall, the fruit tart was probably my favorite between the two. I would definitely come back to try their other pastries!

Yelp
located on green street in a residential area of pasadena. outdoor patio dining area is clean and quaint. staff is helpful and friendly. croissant, baguette, and pressed sandwich are good.

Yelp
Tartine is one of my favorite spots for freshly baked goods of all kind! Their other locations are beautiful but I love coming to Pasadena because it's near all the lovely shops and very close to the Rose Bowl as well The sandwich I got was well balanced and extremely rich I loved it, but I wish my arnold palmer was sweetened a bit! Love this chain Will be back of course
google avatar

Renee D.

Yelp
Tartine has a very nice neighborhood vibe off the beaten path of Old Towne Pasadena. Today the outdoor seating was bright even though it was a crisp winter morning. There are so many sweet and savory option, but if you have to pick just one, go for the chocolate croissant. But only if you are a chocolate snob and love dark chocolate. The earthy bitterness was a delight, like being wrapped in black velvet, both decadent and luxurious! I did see the a table getting the salmon toast and that looked really good for more of a breakfast or lunch option, but today I was in treat mode .
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
Outstanding pastry. There's a reason there are so many locations of this bakery now. I got there late so the selection was a little sparse. I wound up with a pan au chocolate and a slice of lemon poppyseed loaf. Both were excellent, as expected.
google avatar

Lynn D.

Yelp
I was looking forward to tasting morning buns but they weren't any. This was around 3 ish. I settled for an almond croissant which looked slightly burnt but I bought it anyways. Sure enough you could taste the burnt flavor. The scones were ok.

Jen S.

Yelp
I come here with my dog for brunch all the time. Their food is consistently good and fresh. Service is friendly. What I appreciate the most is that this is dog friendly. Pricing is a tad higher than the neighborhood restaurant for the amount of food.
google avatar

Yelp
I was excited this place opened up in Pasadena! I went to the original location in SF and loved their bread! To get there there's plenty of street parking. This part of green street has traffic in both directions and it's not a busy part of Pasadena. It's right next to yoga six and Ralphs. I love their bread, it's chewy, fire brick oven made, with a crispy crust. They sell loafs along with other pastries and desserts. I went with hubby and we got the ham and gruyere cheese sandwich and the salmon tartine. Both were yummy but in terms of the quality of the bread, it's not as good as the SF location. The amount of food was okay and the presentation was beautiful, but I wasn't wowed by the food as I was in SF. One thing to note that I noticed was posted that they add an extra charge to support wages, this was NOT verbally informed as I placed my order. I only noticed it on my receipt afterwards. As I do support this whole heartily, I find it very frustrating when the price of the menu items are very high, yet restaurants like this to support employee benefits. What's even more frustrating is that it's added to my bill without my knowledge until after the fact. There is a lack of customer service. No greeting, just place your order and someone will bring it to you outside. We had to get our own cutlery so everything was pretty much self service. We bussed our own table and I don't think anyone cleans the space before the next set of customers so wipe down your own table. There are other smaller businesses locally I would rather support with better quality food, that's less expensive and a more positive dining experience.

Yelp
I appreciate that this location is not smack dab in the middle of Old Pas. In other words, parking here is amazingly easy. (Easy parking is kind of my criteria for all places to eat in LA County...) Parking: There is street parking in front of the restaurant. It is free for about 1-2 hours (check signage). However, do NOT park on the red zones. I saw a girl park on the red right in front of the restaurant, dash in to grab her to-go meal, and approach her car, but by that point, a meter maid was already writing her a ticket--even for her 5 minute absence. Hence, you have been warned! Food: If you've been to Tartine at any other location, then you know what to expect... which is carbs. (Do any of us have issues with that? Absolutely not!) As can (also) be expected, this place is pricey! The last time I got lunch here with my friend, I ended up spending $77. As for things I've gotten in the past... - Tuna Sandwich: This is a prepackaged item in the cold section. It's good but not great. - Pain Au Jambon: I'm a fan of ham and gruyere. I get this to-go every single time I come here. - Morning Bun: This is 100% a sugar bomb. If you haven't had it, I say try it once. As for me, I won't be getting it again. It's like a flaky sugar donut. - Chocolate chip walnut cookie: I don't have a big sweet tooth, but I do like choco chip cookies and this one was big and shareable. - Egg Sandwich: very fluffy egg. Basic egg sandwich. - Pressed Ham and Gruyere Sandwich: yummy, but a bit salty/sour with the pickled veggies. Came with one whole carrot as the side. I was amused. (Frankly, I'd just get the ham/gruyere croissant instead of this...)

Yelp
Came here for some yummy food and Tartine didn't disappoint. It was my first time trying the egg sandwich which was served on a sweet potato bun. It was amazingly good! The dill mayo on the bread just added the right touch. Service was great, even in the busy morning. I love sitting outside in their patio area. Such a popular place but I was able to find a table. Since I live about an hour away (in Orange County) I don't come here very often. When I do, I'm so glad I made the trip.
google avatar

Ken L.

Yelp
This place is inconsistent and pricey. First time i got the Vegetable Quiche, coffee and a few items to try at home - Vegetable Scone and a cookie. I asked if the quiche could be heated. It was still cold when I got it. For the most part it was delicious until i got to the crust which was chewy and I could not break it sorry my metal fork so totally unpleasant. The cookie was okay and the vegetable scone was great. Next time I got two vegetable scones to go and a small iced tea. The iced tea is tiny and cost $4.75. Totally overpriced for an underwhelming drink. I had the scones later and they were very salty. For the price I expected better.
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
Lovely spot with awesome fresh baked bread and treats. Had brunch with friends out on the patio. Delicious latte and avocado toast.
google avatar

Lizzie L.

Yelp
I wanted a nice warm drink and pastries on a rare rainy and cold LA day so I stopped off. Placed my order and tipped 20% before I even got my order since this is the norm now. I asked for a drink that was a temperature between an adult and child drink. Once I was in the car I realized my drink was barely lukewarm. I had removed my coat and didn't want to venture out again to have them change my drink. I was mad that my $7 drink was gross and that the barista hadn't even taken the time to check the temperature on my drink like most cafes do. I have been to the SM Tartine and love their service, this place needs a retraining. We tip based on an expectation they can't deliver. I can't return, I know Tartine has a reputation for quality but this location doesn't provide that. On top of that Tartine charges an employee benefit to their prices so you end up paying like 25% more after tipping for atrocious service and food.

Yelp
My first Tartine experience, after Yelpers that I follow raved about this place. Decided to check it out at around 11a on a weekday and brought my work laptop to call it my office for an hour or two. So glad to be able to get a table outdoors under some shade so it was a pleasant working experience. A little on the pricier end, I decided to get a few items that Tartine was known for: - croissant ($6): very buttery, crusty and BIG! I was pulling the croissant apart and truly enjoyed eating the middle, soft part of the croissant. I really liked this, but more of a treat as it's rather pricey - morning bun ($6): a bit on the sweeter side, but I like my pastries sweet so I liked this. Cinnamon, sugary goodness. It was good with some tea. - Matcha latte ($6): this was ok. It was just matcha powder, milk and water and there wasn't any Tartine-craft that went into this. Nothing fancy. Maybe other drinks are better, but wouldn't recommend this one. - Baguette ($6.25): my vision was to make myself a Brie, apple and ham sandwich with this baguette, and I'm happy to say that my vision worked out well :) I think this bread was pretty good but wouldn't go out of my way for it. I parked on the street, but there's a Ralph's supermarket next door so plenty of parking there. I liked this place! But likely won't come out of my way to get my fix. I'll be back in passing.

Tammie S.

Yelp
The tuna salad and egg salad are too salty, oatmeal falls on the sweet side. Egg sandwich is pretty good.
google avatar

Tida C.

Yelp
After hearing everyone rave about this place, I decided to come on a Saturday morning before 9am. There's quite a bit of street parking and if not you can probably park in the Ralph's lot. The store was not busy when we went and I was super excited to see such a beautiful presentation of pastries. We decided on a butter croissant, pain au chocolate and a couple of sandwiches. When my food arrived it was terribly underwhelming/ sad. The sandwich had one carrot and a super burnt sandwich lol. How could they serve this? The butter croissant and pan au chocolate were also underwhelming. Not worth the price at all.

Will S.

Yelp
Good not great. Love the San Fran main bakery though. The 2 pastries I had here (almond frangipane croissant and morning bun) are drier than what I've had. The baguette was more pillowy inside, the crust chewier and less crusty than I would have preferred. All in all, I will come back since this may be because it's a newly opened outpost. Service was prompt. Tartine is on the edge of Old Town, a quiet street. Love the contactless payment system here and sprouting everywhere. End of Yelp.
google avatar

K W.

Yelp
So my sense of this Tartine is that while the baked goods continue to be superb I don't think that whoever is planning the food has the most refined palate. Like at the original Tartine *everything* was exquisite down to the little gem salad. But at this Tartine they make choices like broccoli and cheese for the savory scone - broccoli can be kind of funky in a no-good way - and the "meat"'quiche has some kind of taco-powder-adjacent sprinkled topping? It's just kind of a low-note palate and not for me anyway. The scone was over-salted and the tuna salad just not very yummy. Still, the bakes are amazing! The bread is wonderful. The coffee very good. And the spot is leafy and shaded if somewhat noisy. The workers are friendly and fast. I'll come back and just order carefully.
google avatar

Grace J.

Yelp
Located on the first floor of Catania apartments, it's a smaller location with less options compared to other Tartines. Street parking is available with 2 hour limit Mon-Sat and no restrictions on Sundays. No indoor dining option is available, but there are some covered tables and non-covered tables available to dine on. We were off to a good start with the cold brew, which was nice and smooth. The vegan crumb cake with seasonal jam was delicious! The dairy free tuna sandwich on their vegan country loaf satisfied my craving for a tuna sandwich and was decent. I took a bite of the pain au chocolat, which was buttery and amazing. FYI, they charge a 4% employee benefit surcharge to your bill if you want to keep that in mind for tipping purposes. Overall, happy to have a Tartine location in Pasadena but I hope to see more vegan pastry options in the future.

Yelp
MANAGEMENT - Caveat: it's important for these employees to COMPREHEND that they're in RETAIL & this requires retail EXCELLENCE. They are not snobs (as another reviewer wrote) they simply have no manners or class. If management is reading this... THEY'RE EMBARRASSING YOU!!!! And quite possibly will put you out of business, guaranteed. And now, onto the croissants. Who sold their soul to make these croissants?! I finally ventured forward to try them and I was ASTOUNDED!!! I tried the almost croissant. It was thick and heavily flaky and crispy because I was told only after asking that it's baked twice. Although being scolded by a doctor friend for eating "unhealthy croissants that probably had lard in them" I had to see what this is about. I blocked my mind about the disgusting lard but I doubt it. It's too bad they don't have vegan. When one is a great baker, you would think they would rise to the occasion and make the HEALTHIEST croissant, which is the vegan croissant. At least I will age more slowly eating vegan. So this has got to be the best almost croissant in the WHOLE OF PASADENA.. and yes, I know, it will be busier after this posting. And it's a little over 7.00 whilst the plain bagel is around 5.50! - but once in a while it's okay. I think the almond may rival anything in France! My cat loves their swirled dessert. The people who work there should be friendlier tho.

Yelp
When Tartine Sycamore opened i used to go all the time. For some reason this location just hasnt held up. Latte's not consistently good and dont taste the same as Sycamore Food menu hasnt rotated in 3 years. I can remember eating delicious sandwiches and breakfasts but the menu here has been stale and the same since it opened. I see items on their instagram that they don't offer at the location. Silver lake seems to be slightly better

Yelp
Tartine doesn't need this review, but it certainly deserves it. Pasadena is lucky enough to be graced with this outpost of Tartine. Their bread is great and I especially appreciate that they sell both full and half loaves. Their pastries are excellent. My favorite being the ham and cheese croissant. The first time I had one, I bit into those impossibly crisp layers of butter, flour, ham, and cheese and I just knew it was the best croissant I had ever eaten. Their savory scone is amazing, cheesy and spicy and I prefer it to the sweet version. The seasonal hand pies are lovely dough wrapped around homemade fruit fillings. Mine happened to be lemon and kumquat, which was both interesting and delicious. I've tried their sandwiches as well, the tuna salad and the grilled turkey and they are ok. Their coconut cake in the display case is lovely and very coconutty as well. For holidays, they offer special items that you can preorder. For Mother's Day, I ordered a 6' strawberry mousseline cake that my whole family adored. The mousse was not too sweet and textured just right.

Yelp
Tartine is a cute little bakery that serves up artisanal breads and pastries. While new to Pasadena, Tartine is actually pretty famous up in Nor-Cal, which I hadn't realized until recently. Anyways, the prices are on the steeper side, and it may or may not be worth it depending on what you get. I ordered a slice of their crumb cake with seasonal jam and an almond croissant. The crumb cake was delicious, and I enjoyed the contrast in flavors between the sweet coffee cake and the tart blackberry jam baked in. The almond croissant on the other hand was disappointing to say the least. The employee explained to me how they make their almond croissants using the leftover plain croissants that aren't sold, and they add the almond filling and bake it again, which makes their almond croissants crispier than you might expect. If it was just crispy that would have been fine, great even, but my almond croissant was incredibly dry and hard, and left me wanting. Sadly, my latte was also pretty mediocre. Given that I paid over $20 for a small coffee and two pastries, and I only enjoyed one of the three items, I'm not all that interested in returning. Maybe if the pastries weren't quite so expensive, but it is what it is. ********************* My Ratings: 1 Star: Terrible; just thinking about it makes me angry. 2 Stars: Wasn't a fan so Not likely to return. 3 Stars: Meh. Average. Might return if others drag me. 4 Stars: Yum! Will definitely return. 5 Stars: Amazing! Would plan my day around eating here

Yelp
Nice little bakery in Pas. Picked up a box of sweets for an event. Service was prompt and friendly. The cost is comparable to most nearby locations. The interior is small, clean, and even has a customer restroom. If you like to stay and enjoy some sweets and coffee, there is plenty of seating outside. Will definitely return when I'm in Pasadena.

Yelp
I was excited to come here but was unfortunately disappointed. The matcha they use is bitter and was premixed in a squeeze bottle rather than made fresh. The quiche filling was tasty but the crust was too burnt for my liking. Their oven wasn't working so they couldn't heat up our pastries so I went for the almond croissant which I thought was overcooked. I haven't tried their breads yet so maybe I'll give this place another try. I don't mind the high prices but I expected better quality. Better luck next time...

Yelp
I tried Tartine for the first time in SF and followed it to DTLA and now to Pasadena! Opened January 2022 and located on Green Street by luxury condos not too far from Old Town. FOOD: Breakfast Sandwich- eggs, sharp cheddar cheese, seasonal greens, aioli, sweet potato bun. The sandwich itself was mediocre. Eggs were fluffy and the sweet potato bun was so soft which made it a bit hard to eat. It may have been better to order add-ons to jazz up the taste. Otherwise, I would go with a different sandwich next time. Daily Special- Turkey and ham with Gruyère cheese + a pickled carrot on the side. This was a great sandwich and so flavorful! Porridge Bread (precut)- a soft and moist bread that a perfect snack or breakfast choice. Lemon Cake Tea Cake- fragrant and dense in texture with almond powder sugar. A very tasty treat. AMBIANCE: The bakery is unassuming on the outside with several patio seating. PARKING: There is plenty of street parking. PRICE: The prices are on the higher end, but their bread is made daily. Very fresh! So happy to have Tartine nearby to fill my carb loving belly!

Yelp
Food and drinks are delicious, as they are at all Tartines. This one is my favorite because of the people who work there, especially Whitten and Emily, who are always welcoming and warm. I don't even live in this neighborhood, and I head here most mornings because it's a great start to the day. Highly recommend morning buns, veggie quiche, and country bread, which I pick up along with my daily cappuccino.

Yelp
Tried the almond croissant and that was very good! Crunchy outside, soft inside with just the right of sweetness. It is also pretty large and I am not sure it is a good thing as it just means extra heavy calories or you have to share. They deserve an extra star but I suggest they change their modus operandi and pay more attention to their pain au chocolat by putting more chocolate, reduce the size of their offerings and lower the price . They will then have a winner!

Yelp
Came here right before they closed on a rainy day. Found parking right in front. We were lucky they weren't sold out and got to try their famous croissants (I got a plain one and my daughter got the chocolate one). One of the best croissants I've eaten. My daughter also got a hot chocolate which she claimed to be the best one she's ever had. Def on the pricier side but worth the cost. Will come back again.
