Tartinery Café - Bar | Grand Central

The food was great, the only problem was the staff. I ordered a meal and for some reason the cashier told me it would be put in a takeout box and that I “could” sit down. I was dressed in comfort clothes unlike the other patrons so I’m assuming that may have played into this. The reason for this reasoning is due to two other staff members asking me what I was doing there one while I was seated and vetted at the entry. Great food, staff needs to know how to treat a paying customer. I would have paid $20 just for the seat…

I used to come here for takeout only before catching the Metro-North, but my recent visit marked my third pleasant dine-in experience at this location. I have tried the other location in Manhattan, and just like my previous visits, it was pleasant! We got chestnut and butternut squash soup on a cold day several days ago, and we loved it! We also ordered a juice and smoothie; the consistency was perfect. The servers and staff are kind and polite, making the experience even better.

Christopher our waiter was fantastic. He was quick, attentive, and nice. The food was AMAZING! we got an insanely good egg and smoked salmon toast, SO GOOD and SO worth it, and we also got a ham and cheese croissant, so buttery and fluffy, absolutely perfect. Thank you!!

We came here passing by on a holiday to NYC! And we came back! The food is lovely and not pricey for the quality! The fresh juices are absolutely incredible! And the staff are lovely, especially Linn on the bar who served us twice! Would recommend anyone to go here on their NYC trip!

I work in dining service so I have an eye for detail. My experience was great my server Juan-Carlo was attentive and my items arrive to my table promptly which is a plus for me. My drink is especially great tasting as well. I will come visit again.

We a great dinner at Tartiney today. It was just our second visit. The food is really good, beautifully prepared, our server, Shamin was very good and even being in Grand Central, the atmosphere is nice. I would recommend Tartinery to those wanting a bit and drink in the area.

Knocked my coffee into gifts for my kid while cleaning, completely destroyed them, and did not reimburse despite the fact that the tags were still on. Willing to update if “Louie” actually handles this, but Milagros has so far not been helpful. Update- can’t believe this, but Louis went so above and beyond and actually found a replacement teddy bear and had it shipped overnight from the original manufacturer (it was sold out in the store- he even went to check!!) so that my daughter can have it for Christmas. Anyone else would have AT MOST reimbursed the cost, which wouldn’t have fixed me not having it for Christmas. I am in absolute shock, and so so happy. Thank you guys so much!!!! I’m only leaving the original up to show just how above and beyond Louis went to fix this for me and my family. Thank you!!

Amazing breakfast experience with super friendly staff. Stefanie was a very friendly host. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Highly recommend!

I see the poor reviews here, but I had a great meal and drinks here. This place is in Grand Central Station on the dining level, and it was very busy during the weekend. They have a full bar, and make their own custom cocktails, but also have a nice selection of red and white wines, champagne, and beers. The open face tartine sandwiches are great, and their salads are very fresh. I had a great time dining here.

Usually, I love this place. But, there was a huge line today and I stood in line with my younger kid for 30 minutes (yes I understand that it's a Christmas Day). As it was my turn to order, I ordered a hot chocolate which is what my kid wanted. Only to be told, they no longer have hot chocolate and will be serving. As I told the worker, here's a thought: if you have a long line of 30 minutes or more, how about making a quick sign on a piece of paper and taping it on the menu? Like out of hot chocolate? You just had people waste their 30 minutes for absolutely no reason. And when I smiled and made that suggestion, the worker looked at me as if I did her a disservice. Might want to retrain your workers as well. Huge disappointment. There are tons of similar establishments here in Grand Central to eat and drink with much better attitude and service.

Tartinery is located in the Grand Central station, with seating available for patrons dining in. On a rainy day in NYC we decided to explore the station and try out the drinks to go. I decided to try the matcha latte. The matcha latte was so bitter and had a fishy aftertaste. This drink was simply hard to finish. At least the drink was made efficiently but could definitely use fresher matcha powder...

Stopped in here for a quick drink. I only had coffee. The place was bustling with activity as it was in the station. The service was ok. My cup had grinds under it when I picked it up which did not encourage me to order anything else. Not sure I would stop in again if I were there, too many other options nearby.

I went here for happy hour drinks with two colleagues of mine where the drinks are 50% off. Just know that there's no reservations needed here as it's all first come first serve so it's all just walk-in. It's hh from 4 to 7pm and all day on sat/ sun. It isn't a bar so it didn't have that kind of feel to it. More like a small restaurant/ cafe vibe and they serve lunch and dinner along with alcoholic drinks. I ordered the only non alcoholic drink, Ghia Spritz. It was alright, it had organic botanical spritz, rosemary and orange all combined. But wish they had more options. Overall, it the vibe of the place is good.

Tartinery is my favorite eatery at GCT. Love the variety of food and everything is always delicious. The fig & brie ficelle, sandwiches, salads, juices, and smoothies are the best! The staff are always kind and considerate. Thank you :)

Amanda was a pleasant host and was very knowledgeable in her job as well as drinks. She gave a pleasurable experience and has a wonderful and witty sense of humor! I ordered the watermelon cooler which she made perfectly as it wasn't too sweet, which is what she also appreciated and recommended. My partner ordered the cucumber drink which was rather refreshing and packed with cucumber flavor. Which was great because I loved that there was an actual cucumber slice in the drink. It elevated the drink for sure. Wish there was more of selection of spirit options. It was indeed a convenient area to wait for your next scheduled train at metro north. I love the ambiance and the marble counters.

Came to this place because they have happy hour from 4 - 7 and it is in a super convenient location. That being said, almost nothing else besides the happy hour was good. We got a sandwich, because of the namesake and it was quite small and pretty bland. The charcuterie board was standard, nothing great, but not bad. The service here was SLOW. It took me over 30 minutes to get a beer that I ordered. The servers were apologetic, but that is insane for a draft beer. Overall, good for the location and drinks ONLY. Would only recommend coming if you are in the area and need to take a Grand Central train. Otherwise, would not recommend.

High prices but quality is quite good. Liked their cappuccinos and some of their croissants. Service is hit or miss, it gets super busy so the staff don't seem very attentive at all.

Had a quick breakfast with family at Tartinery in GCS before some events planned for the day. Great food. Great service. Convenient and quick? Great location. Later on in the day I realized I had lost something valuable somewhere in GCS. We visited Tartinery to see if they had had something turned in. The Manager took the time to find and watch with my wife the security footage of our visit to see of I had dropped what i had lost, possibly while eating. We did not find what we were looking for but we are certain we did not leave it or lose it at Tartinery. Thanks to the courtesy and professionalism of the Tartinery Manager, we were able to rule out that part of our journey as to where we lost our valuable item. The entire experience has elevated Tartinery to a must visit now every time we Journey through GCS. Thanks to the staff and especially the Manager. All should stop by and visit.

Great place to sit down and have something to eat, the hostess was very nice and excited about seating me, it's right in the middle of the room so you can see everything it's a little bit on the noisier side. A lot of people traveling.. I ended up having a coffee and an almond croissant , my daughter had a banana nut bread, both pastries were OK. It was just nice to sit down and eat at a table .

Great spot to sit down and have a snack before venturing out. Fresh squeezed oj made for a great mimosa. Had avocado smash toast, salmon lox toast, and croque toast. Service was friendly.

Tartinery offers good food and drink options in a convenient location. The space is also very attractive, making it a great spot to enjoy a meal or drinks.

It is an OK place to recharge and have a snack. Good menu with healthy items which caters to all type of eaters. Service is minimal not overly friendly. Since it is located inside the food court at the Grand Central, you may considering pass on this place because of all the pollutants in the area and lots of less friendly people around. I ordered Avocado toast with egg added to that and side of smoked salmon, they were really tasty, but because of other considerations, I am not coming back.

Honestly the food and coffee is pretty good here, so if you're getting take out I would stop here. Otherwise, it's very difficult to sit down and enjoy what you've purchased.

5 Stars - Wonderful Service, Great Food, Nice Music, and Dog-Friendly! I had an amazing experience at Tartinery Café in Greenwich Village. The atmosphere is welcoming, they play great music, and it's dog-friendly, which was a big plus for me! During my visit, I accidentally spilled my coffee, and the waiter was so kind and quick to clean it up. She even offered me a replacement, which I really appreciated. The whole staff was very friendly and attentive. A special mention to the cashier at the front--she was professional, kind, and added to the overall positive experience. We stopped by Tartinery for a drink last month after exploring Grand Central Station for a bit. The service was slow, but the wine was fine. We also bought a bag of chips as a snack so we wouldn't be hangry for our dinner later that evening. It isn't fast, so this is not where you want to go for a grab and go right before a train situation. It's for when you have an hour before your train or you're just wandering around Grand Central. Fine, if it's where you can get a seat before your train.

Overpriced. Specially for a sandwich with bread hard as a rock. Service is always mediocre and unpleasant in this location.

You'll love this if you like unseasoned food. I got the burrata and it had no salt, pepper, balsamic glaze, or even olive oil, and it was for $16?!! Also, there's a cold draft of air constantly on you no matter where you sit. The chia pudding had mold on one of the raspberries.

Ambience - for Grand Central's food court on a Sunday morning it was actually nice, as it wasn't crowded at 9:30am and not too noisy. The service left a lot to be desired, as our waitress gave us quite the stink eye when we requested a different table in a corner when she tried to seat us extremely close/next to another party. Is it our fault that we just wanted to spread out a bit more? It wasn't like they were busy... The food itself is fantastic, I love a good smoked salmon on good quality toasted bread. The cappuccino was great too! Overall would come again, just wish we had had a more friendly waitress. We kept getting glares/attitude from her whenever we made any kind of request, so it kind of ruined the mood.

Very busy bar and food right in the Grand Central Station. The reason for the 2 stars is because our server took forever with our drinks and check. He didn't even ask us for another drink and I felt like he purposely didn't want to help us. We would of ordered more drinks but he never got to us. I did like the food that they served looked great and decent bar with wines, beers on tap, and cocktails. Customer service needs improvement.

This is one of my favorite places in Grand Central! I love their avocado tartine with poached egg and ham and cheese ficelle. Their staff and service is wonderful. Their fresh juices are also delicious. I haven't had one thing that I don't like.

I walked up to the register and said "Hello" and the girl at the register said nothing. I said "hello" again and she just looked at me. The least you can do is greet a customer. This is the bare minimum when it comes to customer service. Anyway I order the kale caesar and it was drastically bland to the point that I thought I lost my taste. I was questioning myself.

Garbage. That's where my ordered ended up. 8 people working(?) behind the counter. 2-3 tables taken. The bread on my sandwich was stale. The soft filling was hardened. Told by the cashier I can sit in the dining area. Tables are dirty & sticky, so I sit at bar. Told I can't sit there and directed to a table. Go to table and yelled at by another employee to sit at a different table. Relegated to one of the dirty tables. Maybe I'm overly sensitive today, I just had surgery. Maybe we were all having a bad day. But honestly there are so many people working here and barely any customers. It doesn't benefit to serve stale food and be extremely rude & dismissive. I should have left, but I needed to rest. For the 30+ minutes I sat there, dozens of chairs remained empty and available. Reply from business has a nice sentiment, but why would I want to approach staff that just belittled me? I'm passing through a train station cafe and do not have time to be confrontational. The first impression should count and convey politeness even on bad days. I'd rather leave my experience on this public forum so customers can be more discerning about where they're spending their time & money so they don't have to feel like I did.

Why TF would a kiosk in GRAND CENTRAL ONLY sell OPEN FACED SANDWICHES? Infuriating. Terrible sandwich. Including celery ribbons you can't eat. Because they still have the outer ribs on them, and they are ribbons 5" long. They do not cut or chew. Ridiculous for a menu item in GC.

I would go somewhere else.. rude and just very weird and negative experience here the two times I have tried this place.. skip it and go anywhere else

The bar at Tartinery was great! Chris the bartender was awesome. The cocktails were delicious plus the cheese board was delish. And Chris was the nicest guy! Definitely recommend that you stop by if you are taking a train - or in the neighborhood!

I don't come to GCT too often but today I was in need of some fuel before school. I saw this place and walked away at first then came back because it was the only place with no line. I walked away the first time cause the vibe was just off. Like their workers didn't want to be there. Understandable. I got a ham & cheese croissant as it was the easiest thing to ask for and a ice coffee. You basically have to make yourself. They overfilled my coffee, made a mess trying to put cream in as they had no dairy free options where anyone could put their dirty hands on, they only had brown sugar or artificial sugar.... My sandwich was cold as ice and the coffee tastes like literal dirt. Absolute hard pass on this place.

Great food and nearly the only place to sit in grand central. I had the salmon toast which was filling and very tasty, plus I ordered the trio juice which was really good. Service was speedy and my table was big enough to open my laptop and get some work done. Would go again

Tartinery is in the food court of Grand Central Terminal. I've purchased pastries from this location in the past. Today it was appealing for a light brunch/snack. I enjoyed the Ham and Cheese Croissant even though it was dry without any dressing. I could have used mustard. I was so hungry I didn't ask. When I was sitting in the comfortable dining area I noticed that men were drinking beer at the bar at 10am in the morning. I haven't seen that in a long time. One gray beard turned and gave me a smile. I was busy eating and didn't like the way he looked at me. I thought to myself "turn around buddy and drink your beer, nothing for you here!" The homeless are everywhere just as they always have been in this food court. The way this Tartinery has their seating set up it keeps the space private. It's blocked off for their customers to enter. They also keep an eye on it. I really like the atmosphere and cool vibe at their restaurants. I'm going to try the other location on Park Avenue. I'd like to eat where there's a window view. The food is good and the prices reasonable.

Used to be one of my favorite places in GCT. Loved the food and the staff. But they've changed my favourite treat, the Chicken tartine, and replaced the chicken with standard deli chicken salad. So disappointing. Also the bartender was really rude, like she wanted to signal her contempt. Did the same to the woman sitting next to me so not taking it personally but can't go back for that. She was treating other customers well so she clearly wanted to send the message to us that we were not welcome. The two stars are for the other staff who were nice, as usual. So, you know, that's the end of that.

5 stars for the staff and convenience of a place to chill waiting for a train. the two waiters were so nice even though we only ordered some small things and they were close to closing. it was really nice to close out the day in a quiet spot. I've grabbed small to-go things here before but wouldn't mind sitting for a meal again in the future. surprisingly nice spot in grand central and much better than having to find a standing table.

Meh. We custom ordered scrambled eggs and bacon. The bacon was not good. The sourdough toast was hard. Four of us walked in. Three of us ordered from the eatery. One of us did not. The fourth person was told she could not eat with us in the eatery. We were a bit disappointed.

Nice place inside the Grand Central food court. You can grab and go or sit in the enclosed section. I sat at the bar and had a quick bite while waiting for my meeting. Good is simple but good. Nice selection of wines. Quick service. But it does get very loud since it's in a good hall.

They're understaffed for the crowds they draw. Took a while to get our order in. Still, the food was tasty, and I can see myself coming back if I have time to kill in Grand Central.

Ordered a croissant ham and cheese. It looked good, but after the first bite I could tell it had been frozen, making the croissant rubbery. Also, it was cold in the center

Such a good spot for breakfast or lunch. Stopped here while awaiting LIRR train and so glad I did! The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The food tastes fresh and delicious. Would recommend and will be returning when in this area again.

Today I was in the lower ground floor of Grand Central Station looking for lunch. Now there are slim pickings. Having eaten at Tartinery in Soho, I decided to get a sandwich. The ham and cheese ficelle ($7.08) looked fresh even though it seemed quite small. The bread was quite tender and the ham and cheese filling. No butter was spread on the bread and neither was there any mustard. I would have preferred to have some salad greens in between also. As standing to eat around round bar type tables is the new norm now in the station with few chairs I was fortunate to find one and was able to enjoy my lunch nicely. Tartinery also offers croissants, muffins and cookies for commuters with assorted hot and cold drinks. There is also an area attached to this eatery where one can enjoy a meal.

Very trendy breakfast spot with adequate seating, even on busy weekend mornings, their prime brunch time. The food is clean, looks good and tastes great. The omelette and the salmon lox toast are very good. The portions are not huge, but the price is fair. The wait staff is pleasant.

I enjoyed their chocolate chip cookies. They are crispy on the outside but have a softer, slightly gooey inside. Great in the microwave at home. However they are super overpriced at $5 per cookie.

On our first visit, after ordering our meal at the counter, we asked if we just seat ourselves at their seating area. The staff member looked at us as if we asked the dumbest question. There's no real service here. You order at the counter and you pick up your own food at the counter. I took a seat while my partner waited for the food. The vaccine checker gave me a hard time about having my 'Doughnut Plant' bag, from a donut store nearby. He allowed me to have it when I told him we were waiting for our food. On our second visit, as we were ordering, we asked if we could bring food from another place since one of us wanted a burger. He said no and that it's against the department of health regulations. I wonder if that's even true. Well, the burger won out. We went to Shake Shack instead. It wasn't busy there at all. I guess they didn't need my $30 order. The food from our first visit was good enough. We just didn't appreciate their inflexibility about not allowing us to dine together. There is communal dining area at this level, but they only have two tables with chairs, the rest are bar stool tables.

In a sea of fried foods I was able to have a tasty, healthy quinoa salad with fresh veggies. When I unnecessarily ordered avocado the staff were good enough to point out the dish already came with & refund me.

Came by during my time in NY. Got off train at Grand Central and really enjoyed the food and good service. Staff is very nice and gave solid recommendations! my food was delish!

Tartinery is a good place to grab a meal for lunch. They have lots of pastries. I had the salmon sandwich which was delicious . The ice latte was refreshing and tasty.

Staff are nice, but waited a long time for an egg cheese brioche, only to have the brioche over toasted and the cheese burned. Usually I wouldn't worry about it and just move on, but the price is exorbitant for less than mediocre food. This is just a microcosm of what's going on in NYC. After the pandemic, Everyone is charging high prices for noticeably low quality. Meanwhile, many businesses can still survive on unsuspecting tourists.

Dark skin bartender was rude, every time he spoke he had an attitude bc I sat at the bar and ordered a coke at 3pm (the place was almost empty) Never once checked up on me if I needed anything else - asked for the check and gave a him a 60% tip ($3) and he took his card machine back, looked at the screen and didn't even say bye or have a good day. I knew he was upset about the tip
