It's all about the truffles!
Excellent lunch spot and pretty awesome experience. Amazing, delectable, fantastic dishes to try. And the ambiance to go with it.
To my Bay Area friends, you know how the Stinking Rose is all about garlic? Well, all you have to do is replace garlic with truffle mushrooms, and you've arrived at Tartufi & Friends in Roma's Centro Storico on Via Borgognona.
Located in the fashion shopping district, Via Dei Condotti, walking distance from Piazza di Spagna.
The interior is gorgeous if I say so myself, I'm usually not the one to worry about the looks. Very cozy and elegant atmosphere with the most attentive staff who speak decent English, which is rather rare occurrence in my experience.
Take your time and examine the menu I've posted, it's in English and yes, it does make you salivate over the possibilities.
Be prepared to splurge and get yourself a bottle of fine wine. I rarely drink white, but when I do... I get Silvio Jermann Sauvignon from Villanova in Friuli Venezia Giulia. It is exceptionally good with cheeses, pastas, seafood, risotto, and of course mushrooms in simple recipes.
Paired it with crusty Bruschette topped with porcini and artichoke spread and truffles, then had their signature Tagliolini dish.
Opted for the more expensive white truffle variety. The pasta is made fresh daily and you can definitely tell that it is fresh. Very, very good.
You must be prepared to shell out some dough though. A lunch for two that includes antipasto, first course, waters, and wine is easily €150.
Back to the wine. You know all those stereotypes about Italians? Forget them if you want to understand the Friuli region. Silvio's heritage, combined with Friulian soil at Villanova di Farra vineyard, evokes the nuances of the grape into a well balanced elegance.
Antipasto
Selection of small bruschette crusty bread slices Tartufi&Friends, with porcini mushrooms cream, Crema panino, artichokes cream, spicy olive pâté, tomato sauce, €18,00 black truffle, €32,00 white truffle
First Course
The signature Tagliolini fresh hand made pasta Casio&Pepe with fresh truffle, €30,00 black truffle, €70 white truffle
Valverde still water, sparkling available, 0,25l €1,50
Silvio Jermann Sauvignon 2015 Venezia Giulia, 100% Sauvignon 13% alcohol by vol.
It comes from a hilly zone at Ruttars and three zones at Villanova in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy.
Brilliant straw yellow with slight greenish reflections. Intense, fruity, green gooseberry fruit and fumé notes, distinctly varietal. Persistent bouquet with pleasing notes of elder flowers. On the palate, dry, full, elegant and well balanced.
