The Best Restaurants In Sonoma - Sonoma - The Infatuation

"Sonoma might be a small city, but it has more Portuguese restaurants than many much bigger towns. Tasca Tasca focuses on petiscos (Portuguese tapas), which you can order as a mix-and-match tasting plate from five categories: cheese, garden, land, sea, and sweet. Tasca Tasca also features an all-Portuguese wine list, so you can try some unique wines that you won’t find on most lists, like a crisp white vinho verde or rich reds from the Douro Valley." - allison green, gabi moskowitz

We were blown away. The food was incredible. Extremely unique. Decent size portions for being a tapas restaurant. Creative menu items and lots of fun. We had a variety of dishes including: pickled vegetables, pigs ears, hot wings, beef tartare, squid salad, barbecue slider, Portuguese sausage, smoked duck, escargot, oysters (which had broken shells in it which were disappointing), codfish cakes, oil ice cream, mac & cheese, goat stew and green beans. Order more food than you think you are going to eat. The vibe seemed a bit odd. It was very bright and farm house feel, almost like an antique store/vintage gift shop. It could have been a bit more intimate. We will definitely be back when in town.

Google
Really thought this was a great meal but you do have to be careful with what you order. Mac and chs and the slider are each basically a light dinner on their own and I was really happy I ordered the house pickles or something light and acidic to contrast the other items. Highlights for me were the shishitos with little sausages, the smoked duck, the Mac and cheese and the gazpacho. We appreciated the reasonably priced wine list but thought it was strange to not see any local wine on there. Our waiter was very kind and service was good but would want her to know more about the dishes and be able to articulate more clearly about what each was to assist ordering. She was able to point out favorites but not to really talk about food in more depth and to help strategize or plan the order given the diverse options. Overall though I really enjoyed this meal.

Google
Literally amazing and my favorite tapas place. I love having options and if we had more friends to join, I could see us ordering the whole menu. Oyster was refreshing; ceviche was well-seasoned; pickles were marinated well to pair with the mac-n-cheese. Escargot was generous in the amount and the duck breast was perfectly smocked. You need to wrap up the meal with Portuguese Olive Oil ice cream. The staff there are friendly and attentive. We’ll definitely come back!

Eduard

Google
This is the real deal, I'd come back to SF just to eat here alone. Adore the food, love the place, admire the people. Never had Mexican food like this before, the enchiladas were to die for, the nachos freshly made and crisp to perfection.

Google
Good tapas, the taste seemed to be designed to go well with drinks. By itself I found it to be a little too salty. The highlight for me was the prawn ceviche. This really stood out! Fresh and has this complexity in flavour that I enjoy in a ceviche Oysters fresh The rest probably would go well with drinks

Google
Absolutely delicious flavors, food is generously seasoned which can be difficult to find. Friendly service, cute space. Would like to come back again soon!

Google
Very solid tapas, wide variety, big portions for tapas. Very much recommend for the food. Service was best they could do but understaffed with two people covering host, waiter and bar tender for entire restaurant. Took very long time to get cocktails but not from lack of effort. Small patio is nice. inside is pretty plain and AC wasn't working right so was very warm. Recommend going with small group of 2-4 and eating outside or at bar. Recommend shishito peppers with sausage, shrimp ceviche, Mac and cheese with pork. Others liked their tripe and scallop crudo

Google
Beautiful, intimate restaurant in the heart of Sonoma. All of the dishes are delicious! My wife and I did the 7 item tasting dinner menu and that was plenty for us. We left full and satisfied from the amazing meal. Small, but sizable portions perfect for sharing. Seasoned well. Served at the perfect temperature. The staff is friendly, the service is prompt. And the restaurant is comfortable. A little loud due to the size since it is on the smaller side, but it wasn’t overall distracting or take away from the experience. Highly recommend this unique gem!

Yelp
Tapas are so fun to share as a group! We got the fried green beans, crab empanadas, ceviche, anchovies, salt cod cake, shishito peppers, duck breast, Mac and cheese, scallops and pig trotter terrine. Try everything! The cured meats and seafood are definitely worth getting! We don't often get dessert at lunch but the chocolate piri piri ice cream was fun to try! The service was good. They weren't too busy on a Sunday afternoon, so the staff were very friendly and attentive.

Yelp
We dine out in Sonoma quite often and had never tried Tasca Tasca. We made it a point on a Wednesday afternoon to give it a try. The ambiance is pleasant but there was only one other couple in the restaurant at lunch time. We had our choice of tables and sat against the wall away from the door. It's a narrow space with the exposed kitchen at the far end. This is a Portuguese tapas restaurant but the majority of the staff were Latino. I'm noting this because I had extensive conversations with our waitress about some of the items on the menu inquiring how they compared to Mexican dishes. The staff is friendly and not overbearing. When the bill came I had double changed for several item thus doubling the total. It something in my view the waitress should have noticed before presenting the bill since the difference was over $100! So make sure you check your bill or wind up with a big surprise when you review your charges at the end of the month. We had just returned from Portugal and we are not fans of Portuguese wine which they carry exclusively. We brought our own wine. The corkage fee is $25! There was only one other couple in the restaurant but it took 15 minutes for the food to arrive. In ordering I wanted to try the pigs ears. I asked how they compared to Chicharones( fried pig rinds) and she said they were thinly sliced and not crispy and airy like chicharones. She was correct. She warned us to eat them when they arrived because if left to sit for awhile they will get chewy. She was correct again and they were tasty with a carmelized finish but they did become close to leather as time went by. There is something to be said for tough as a pigs ears! You've been warned. We also had a long discussion about "arose con leche " like my Mexican Grandmother used to make vs the rice pudding they were offering. She suggested they were similar but clearly she never had my Grammy's. It was dry and the rice was not well cooked. The pulled pork was nothing special and seasoned like any other BBQ nothing Portuguese about it. The Shrimp empanadas were the best of the tapas. The sardine patté was average if I had it to do over I would have had the white sardines. The beet salad was fresh but nothing special. It might have been an off day but I won't be back. Sonoma has so many other better choices. I would give it two stars on authenticity.

Yelp
My husband and I came here for lunch and got player parking! I was curious with this place and love that you get to try different food. Great service!! We got the 5 items tasting menu. It was actually pretty big. I can't remember everything we tried but it included wings (they actually give a lot for a tasting menu)_, fave was ceviche, steak tartare and other things. I would come back to try more things.

Yelp
I loved the concept here, you pick a bunch of small items and have a little feast for yourself! Everything was excellent and so tasty, just the right quantity to not get overwhelmed. Lovely wine selection, and the staff were really friendly and helpful! Got this lovely spread here before seeing a show at the theater across the square. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Love this place! Portuguese tapas, or "petiscos," offer a delightful sampling of bold flavors and fresh ingredients. chouriço , and tender octopus are simply irresistible. The variety is impressive, making it perfect for sharing. Pair with a glass of vinho verde for an authentic experience. A must-try for any food lover!

Yelp
We ordered a variety of tapas, and each one was delicious! The fried pig ears didn't make it into the picture, but they were the best tapa I had yesterday, followed closely by the morcela and the mac and cheese with linguiça. Everything was fresh and cooked to perfection! The flan was also great, especially paired with a Porto flight. Our server was a superstar--she was incredibly busy but still managed to provide excellent service to everyone. The decor is warm and inviting, making for a wonderful dining experience.

Yelp
I can't believe I still have not left a review for Tasca Tasca. It is by far one of our favorite places to eat at, in Sonoma. The service is always warm & extremely friendly, we aren't only checked on by our server but everyone else working there always makes sure we are being taken care of. You can't go wrong with anything you order, but for sure the Pig Ears are always a must! The food is very filling & seasoned perfectly, as my husband says, "it should be a crime for the food to taste this good!". They can accommodate large groups but since the space is small, I'd recommend making a reservation for groups larger than 4 people -- especially on a weekend. Photo 7 Items - Front left to right : steak tartare, potatoes "ao murro" Back left to right: smoked duck breast, pate of sardines, shrimp passion fruit ceviche, fried spicy pig's ears, Dungeness crab empadas

Yelp
If you love to try a bunch of things and not be tied down to a single entree, this is for you. Portuguese tapas! We love Portugal, and we love having this experience in Sonoma County. Must try: Fried pig's ear (yes, just do it!!) Bacalao (cod cakes) Crab empanadas Shrimp ceviche Olive oil ice cream Delicious and a really good deal!

Yelp
Tasca, Tasca is an absolute gem for anyone who loves authentic tapas. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, perfectly setting the stage for a memorable dining experience. Each dish we tried was bursting with flavor, but the octopus was the true standout--perfectly tender and seasoned to perfection. The variety of tapas offered allowed us to try a bit of everything, and each one was a hit. The service was attentive and knowledgeable, making great recommendations that didn't disappoint. If you're a fan of tapas, Tasca, Tasca is a must-visit!

Yelp
Great place to grab some nibbles while wandering around Sonoma Plaza. Of course, I'm always looking for a Tapas type place so I feel like this was destined for me anyways. Portuguese in style and flavors, they have a number of tapas to pick from. How it works.... First figure out how hungry you are. Then take a look at the menu to see what catches your eye. Then determine how many you want to try... 3, 5, 7 for lunch. I wasn't super hungry and I knew we'd be having a wine and snacks later. So, we each went with 3. We pobably should have just ordered the 7 for the 2 of us as that would have been the better 'deal' so to speak. Oh well. Live and Learn. Serrano Ham - Great flavor, savory, tender, melted in your mouth. Not super salty. More Please. Beet salad - Big fresh chunks of beets! Light and Tasty! Picles (aka pickled veg) - These were fantastic. I would have purchased a jar to go if they offered it. Tosta Mista - SOOOOO Good! I mean... literally cannot go wrong with serrano ham, melted cheese on a lovely piece of toasted bread. Piri Piri Potatoes - Good but I would have preferred the outside of the potato to be crispier... Still they went well with everything else we ordered. Boquerones (white anchovies) - Yum! Now .... before you turn your nose up to anchovies.... you really should give these a try. White Anchovies are nothing like their cousin - the anchovies that are typically put on pizzas or used in the Caesar salad dressing. Those are very strongly fishy flavored and super fishy oily. White Anchovies are not. They are more delicate in flavor. Yes, they still have a fish flavor, but it is not as off-putting in flavor or smell as the other kind. I first had these in Spain and now look everywhere for them. Still the best was the ones we had in Spain. The search continues.... until I can go back. Would definitely come back to Tasca Tasca if we find ourselves in the area again. PS.... they are next door to my fave bubbly bar... SIGH! So, if you can start at one and then go to the other ... since they are next door to one another.

Yelp
Dungeness Crab Empadas 3 crispy corn skin, not flavorful filling, Chipotle mayo, only 2 pc Goat Stew 4 fingerling potatoes, strong goaty smell, tender, juicy, flavorful Smoked Duck Breast 4 muscatel glaze, tender, medium juicy, smoky flavor, only 3 slices Braised Honeycomb Tripe 4 stew, chewy, juicy, flavorful soup Caldo Verde 3 Portugal's National Soup, chicken & beef stock, pork sausages, slightly sour

Yelp
Great place for small bites and drinks. We enjoyed a sangria along with crab empanadas, duck breast, lamb stew, kale anchovy salad, oysters, shrimp ceviche, and a Portuguese cinnamon flan. Service is good.

Yelp
The appetizer plate was a solid sampler but it didn't pair well with the wine... we're in wine country so a good pairing would have been awesome but I get it, they're not a winery. The service was a little spotty, it wasn't to busy and I could see the staff talking to each other. Once they did come to our table they were attentive though. Because this place is not on the main square it's not as busy so you can get a table but it's not busy for a reason. The food was pretty mid and the drinks were pretty stiff. More of a quick bite with friends not with kids. The tables are really close together so if you have hips good luck trying to walk through.

Yelp
The house-made caramels were the star of the show for me! This was my first trip to Tasca Tasca as the menu doesn't appeal to me because I don't eat seafood and a lot of the meats offered. But, as I told the friend who suggested the restaurant, I can always find something on the menu and the company is what's most important. I watched by spouse and friend swooning over every item they selected, even things that one chose that the other thought they wouldn't like. From sardines to goat stew, I think they tried most of the menu. And, there was nothing left at the end! As the picky eater in the group, I recommend the mac-n-cheese (even shared it was very filling) and the pickled veggies and olives. Both were delicious. I would share photos, but we were too busy enjoying the meal. We ate there on a holiday so I'm not sure that reservations are always needed, but it's definitely smart on the weekend or during a busy period as the restaurant is a bit compact.
google avatar

Millie B.

Yelp
We made reservations on open table for a party of two and for seated promptly but not at table but at the bar. I thought that was a little bit off, but oh well. We ordered a total of 12 tapas and all were delicious. The Sangria is a must as well. I will definitely be back.
google avatar

Violet Y.

Yelp
Made a reservation to come here on a Sunday with four people. It wasn't too busy when we arrived but it definitely picked up a bit later. The menu is basically build your own tapas board. They have tons of port and wine options. They even have cocktails made with port that they make fresh, as they were sold out that day. We got the following: Pig ears: too sweet imo. I wish the description mentioned it was basically candied pig ears. Mac and cheese: wish it was creamier and probably wouldn't get again so I can try something else next time since the menu is huge. Green beans: crispy and delicious! Smoked duck: comes with a sweet glaze on top and good smoky flavor Empanadas: get the empanadas! They're filled with crab, crispy, and the sauce was creamy/delicious. Oysters: the sauce on top wasn't anything special imo but they were very fresh. Crudo scallop: fresh and clean tasting, the Serranos had good heat! If I were in the Sonoma area, I'd stop by again. Not everything was my favorite but the food was overall tasty. I enjoyed the large menu that had a little bit of everything!

Yelp
This restaurant has it all for a casual yet delightful menu with many options. The smaller plates allows you to explore the variety of delicious dishes without breaking the bank. The staff are excited about working here and serving people joyfully. Thank you for creating this place.

Yelp
We made a small trip to Sonoma for the weekend. We were looking for a place to stop by for dinner and Tasca Tasca appeared as a bookmarked place. We walked in ~5 PM and were immediately seated. The restaurant is in downtown and has plenty of seating. The menu is tapas/has small bites. Since we were a group of 3, we decided to order ~10 items. Each plate is small, so it's perfect to share and try out different plates. We ordered oysters, scallops, mac n cheese, the kale salad, potatoes and crab/cod cakes. The cod cakes were decent, and oysters were well seasoned. Everything else was OK, nothing to rave about but nothing to complain about, as it was reasonably priced for being in downtown. Since it was Portugese food, I expected to be amazed by the food. It was alright, and we left full... The scallop we would definitely skip on. The ceviche also had 30% cashews in it..which I had never had in ceviche before. It added more volume and it looked like shrimp, but it was left as leftovers as it was not what we expected to be in ceviche... Food is solidly 3/5.

Annel M.

Yelp
Great vibes, but the food misses the mark I was excited to try this place after all the glowing reviews, and I'll give credit where it's due: the atmosphere is fantastic. The decor is trendy and inviting, and the service was excellent--our server was attentive and friendly throughout the night. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the hype. We tried several dishes, hoping one might stand out, but nothing impressed us. The ceviche sounded incredible on the menu, but it was bland and lacked seasoning. The shrimp empadas looked beautiful but tasted average at best. Even the oysters were forgettable, with odd textures and muted flavors. For the price, I expected much better. The restaurant clearly knows how to create a great ambiance, but the food just doesn't deliver. If you're looking for a stylish place to grab drinks, this could work. But if you're coming for a memorable meal, I'd suggest looking elsewhere-- absolutely nothing stuck out to me.

Yelp
I wish I lived in Sonoma so I could come back!! Everything about Tasca Tasca is exceptional!! We started with drinks, Lisbon Libation and a light white wine. The Lisbon Libation was strong, flavorful and pretty. It does have a strong ginger flavor so if that's not for you, I'd skip it. Our waiter was very patient as we picked our items for our tapas plate. He made some recommendations for us as well because we were overwhelmed by the options. Our 7 item plate had Linguiça Caseira - Pork Sausage, Smoked Duck Breast - Moscatel Glaze, Escargot - Garlic Butter, Valley Ford Estero Gold Cheese - Honey, Dungeness Crab Empadas - Chipotle Mayo, Shrimp Passion Fruit Ceviche - Cucumber and green beans with almonds. There was not a bad item on the plate but some were over the top. My top favorites were the Dungeness Crab Empadas, shrimp ceviche and gold cheese with honey. The empadas were hot and fresh and full of the crab filling. The shrimp ceviche was the best ceviche I've ever had. It had so much flavor; the cashews and cucumbers brought a nice crunch. I wasn't expecting the roasted duck to be served cold; it was tender and juicy and was very similar to a cold slice of ham in my opinion. The green beans were in a light sauce with crushed almonds. The beans were snappy, not too over cooked. Our waiter brought us some freshly made caramels with our check. I wanted to buy some caramels to take home with me because it was so smooth and creamy. The restaurant itself is fairly large with some outdoor seating. The outdoor seats were in direct sunlight so we ended up sitting inside. This restaurant takes pride in their food and service.

Yelp
Absolutely perfect flavors, lots of options and the food was impeccable, scrumptious and to die for!! Wonderful service, great ambiance! Definitely coming back here! We had: mac and cheese, linguica, goat stew, tosta mista, crab empanadas, olive oil ice cream & rice pudding... I could eat all of this daily. Perfection!
google avatar

Yelp
Located in the heart of Sonoma, they have a good size menu filled with shareable bites. We were a group of four and seated pretty quickly. As oyster lovers we got a dozen, served in small plates of three over salt, not ice. It was a very warm day so unfortunately they were not as cold as should be which took away from the experience. We ordered a few other small items but I can't say anything was amazing or stood out. I enjoyed the wine but in a town full of wine there are many other places to check out.
google avatar

Dana K.

Yelp
We did the 7 course tasting (order is ranking) and a cocktail. We'd recommend 1-4 and skip the rest. 1. Goat stew: yummy off the bone. 2. Honeycomb tripe: does not have either the texture or flavors of tripe (which is a huge challenge to accomplish) 3. Portuguese golden daisy: first time having brandymel. We only regret didn't try the brandymel on its own. 4. Steak tartare: I didn't like it at first but loved it with the mustard and cornichons. 5. Cinnamon flan: velvety and cinnamon-y. 6.. Duck: tastes like ham with duck textures 7. Cod cakes: meh 8. Truffle potatoes: not the best way to cook potatoes, I like the butter tho

Yelp
Best restaurant I've been to in a long time. Unique flavors, excellent presentation, ordered seven tapas for three people was perfect. Lucious libration as well. Enjoyed cappuccinos and rice pudding to finish off the evening. Yum!

Yelp
Delicious food and beautiful atmosphere. We came here on a night out in gorgeous Sonoma and found ourselves thinking we'd just landed in Portugal. From the exceptional service, abundant and friendly atmosphere, and delicious food, I would highly recommend stopping by to share some tapas with good company.

Yelp
Wonderful place for a light bite to share. We had the pork slider, roasted duck and the Mac n cheese. Service was attentive. Dining room was clean and atmospheric without being overly done.

Yelp
Stopped in based on the menu of Portuguese tapas and was not disappointed! We chose the 7 items for a set price and enjoyed every choice we made. The cheese was great after a little wine tasting. The fried empanadas were excellent as well as the beet salad. Staff was super friendly and service was prompt. I'd return when in Sonoma again!

Yelp
Lovely spot for lunch. The more the merrier as then you can order even more tapas. Everything we had was delicious including jamón serrano, beets, chorizo (courizo), and a delicious sangria. Waitstaff were friendly and attentive. Surprisingly it was easy to hear each other, maybe due to the very high ceilings. Would definitely recommend!

Yelp
I love having options when I eat. Tasca gives the choice of 3, 5, or 7 bites. We went with their National dish a Verde Caldo, topped with sausage, a Cheese, Meat, and bread. My fav. was the empanadas with crab, but the oysters were nice and acidic. The service was relaxed, water and a small nourriture, would come here again.

Yelp
My family came here for lunch Labor Day Weekend. I've had Spanish Tapas before but this was my first time trying Portuguese tapas. I was especially excited since I recently found out from a DNA test that I'm part Portuguese haha. We ordered several tapas for our family to share and there was more than enough to go around for our party of 6. Highlights include Portuguese mac & cheese with linguica, bacalhau, Dungeness crab empanadas, pork sliders etc. Everything we had tasted great! Perfect place to come with a large group!

Yelp
Portuguese tapas restaurant in downtown Sonoma. I love tapas restaurants as I always have a hard time picking dishes at a restaurant, but at a place like Tasca Tasca I have the option to try so many new dishes! We went on a Friday night and it was completely packed, so I'd highly recommend making a reservation. They allow the option to choose 3, 5, or 7 tapas from their entire menu. My partner and I decided to share 7 tapas and we were very satisfied by the end of our meal. We tried the following items: - Smoked duck breast: perfectly smoked and tender - Fried pig ears: a tad too sweet for my taste - Escargo: too salty - Pate of sardines: sounded unique and was decent but didn't blow my mind - Queijo Fresco with Tomato Jam: very light and refreshing - Braised honeycomb tripe: one of my favorites, packed with flavor and very tender - Goat stew: my other favorite item, also tender and delicious Overall, I love the plentiful options available at the restaurant, including with animal parts that are not frequently served. While most of the items were solid, a few were a miss for me. I'd still highly recommend though if you are looking for a place to eat while in Sonoma.

Yelp
If you're doing a wine tour in Sonoma then make sure to stop here for lunch! You will be hungry but they also have a flight of delicious wines as well. Enjoy tapas style food. Order a bunch to try all the different dishes.

Yelp
This might be the best "restaurant with excellent food" value in all of Sonoma. Maybe even in Sonoma County. The food was excellent, the service was fast, efficient and unobtrusive and we really like the rustic vibe in the small space. Four of us had 14 plates and a bottle of wine and the total, including a $40 tip was $200. Unheard of in Sonoma County. The dishes were all great and the wine, a bottle of the Santos De Casa reminded me of the rustic and robust wine I had decades ago in Portugal. I love the style but some who prefer less robust wines may not but we all thought it delicious. We will most definitely return. I think I prefer it to the more "fine dining" sister restaurant La Salette which is also excellent.

Yelp
Superb Portuguese tapas spot, always with great selection of tapas, offered at 'sets' of 5 dishes and above. Can pick and choose what you like in your set and can almost guarantee that you'll walk away satisfied. Highly suggest to get the pig ears, some empanadas, a soup, and something with bread (either a cheesy toast or pork slider). Be sure to leave room for dessert as they've got some great homemade ice cream too! Wine selection is teriffic as well as Portuguese options are aplenty and pours are generous. Overall, great money for value, good for lunch or dinner!

Yelp
Came to Tasca Tasca for dinner and overall had a really great dinner! The service was prompt, and food came out quick, even for a busy Saturday night, price was great for the tapas menu, we started with 7 savory bites, and then decided on 3 more bites for dessert, sliders and oysters were the big winners for us! Will definitely be back excited to try more items!

Yelp
This was recommended by our host/sommelier at Brown Downtown, and we wanted tapas for our birthday! It's actually Portuguese, and we usu think of sangria when we think of tapas, but they didn't have any. It's just as well, I was feeling chilled, so I had hot tea and water to drink. (The sparkling wine/champagne from Domaine Carreros was still buzzing in my head too!) We walked in and were seated right away. We wanted small bites, so we got kale salad, Chouriçinhos (sausages), smoked duck breast and fried peri-peri potatoes (like Nando's). Everything was good and in good portions. We mentioned it being our birthday, but again, no singing or free dessert, which is fine, we're adults. For dessert we had a AMAZING chocolate tart and olive oil ice cream. I KNOW right?? I usually wouldn't get ice cream with no sugar flavor, but this was quite good, esp with something rich like the tart. It was moderately full for a Tuesday evening, but service was a little spotty in that sometimes we had more than one person approach our table, but some attention is better than none, right? I'd go back when it's warm to see if we can sit outside; or try to find a Portuguese place here in Chicago

Yelp
Portuguese tapas restaurant in core downtown Sonoma. Highly recommend making a reservation -- we went on a Friday night and it was fairly packed. They have tapas in sets of 3, 5, or 7 and you can choose from anything on their menu. We shared 7 and were feeling decently full by the end. If you're hungry, I'd recommend ordering more, since the portions are fairly small. The goat stew and tripe were our favorites, with the smoked duck breast coming in a close second. The fried pig ears were a tad sweet and the escargot was a bit too salty. Overall, a good place to try out for small bites.

Yelp
Lovely friendly service and fun menu of Portuguese dishes. Unfortunately, nearly everything we ordered was over-salted, including the minionette for the oysters. Not sure if this was just an off night but can't recommend (and I *love* salt).

Yelp
Being that I was born and raised in Portugal and currently a dual citizen we decided to try this place and it failed to represent who we are. First there was not a single Portuguese person working in this place as far as I can see. The food was mediocre at best. The tapas were tiny and insanely overpriced. There are options for 3, 5 or 7 tapas. The portions were so small and unsatisfying. We started off with 3 and let the waitress know we would order as we go. When we got the bill it was higher than normal and she explained her "POS" billed us for 3 and everything after that was a la cart. They were out of the only Portuguese beer they offered which was an eye watering $8 for a 12oz bottle. As far as desert goes how do you not offer Pastel de nata? This is a staple in our culture and one of the most heavily guarded recipes in the world. I have eaten at many Portuguese restaurants in the states and there are a few that are quite good and represent us well, this isn't one of them. For $100 for two people for 7 tapas, a small glass of vhino verde which is $16 and a bottle and a beer for $8 is outrageous. Para o proprietário, você deve pegar um avião para voar para Portugal, passar uma semana lá para experimentar como é a verdadeira culinária portuguesa, porque não é isso. Deixe-me saber se você quiser recomendações.

Yelp
A cute tapas place in the heart of downtown Sonoma! We went in a group of 4, with each pair ordering 7 items for $48. Based on the pictures below, you can see that the portion of food varies enormously with what you order. Such that one pair walked away stuffed and the other pair was still hungry for more. Quality, tasty ingredients with lots of options and variations to satisfy a wide range of palates. Friendly and attentive staff, quick service, and cozy but airy ambiance. Though this is a tapas place, my only gripe is how high the price point is for the amount of food served, especially given the variability in how much $48 can get you between groups.

Yelp
In town for Little League all star tournament. Been wanting to try this place once I saw tapas on yelp. Due to timing of games, had to wait a couple days before trying. This place did not disappoint. I was worried my kids would be hard to please but knew I could order them pulled pork sliders. They didn't get past filling up on the Mac & cheese & wings. They were extremely satisfied. This was definitely a sensory tasting experience! Not expecting to get but the gazpacho was a special & was absolutely delicious on a warm summer afternoon. To say The shrimp cheviche, squid salad, kale salad were full of flavor is an understatement and doesn't do it justice. Anchovies were good. I didn't have but was told the oysters, pig ears, & crab empanadas were delicious. We didn't have reservations but server was very accommodating to get us a table big enough for a party of 5 & where we wanted to sit. When I go back I will definitely get gazpacho, cheviche, & kale salad again! Cute location near park.

Yelp
Wanted to find a place in Sonoma where 4 people could have a relaxed dinner and sample a wide variety of Portuguese dishes. Tasca Tasca fit those requirements perfectly and we all enjoyed a night of fascinating flavors and just the right amount of food. With 4 people, we aimed for 14 dishes, so two groups of 7 dishes each was 52 + 52 = $104. Not bad on a per-person basis and most of the dishes were sufficiently substantive to allow for everyone to split them. A few could have been better--the saffron aioli with potato wedges had a bit too much potato and not enough aioli--but dishes like the goat stew and "Portuguese-style" mac and cheese were excellent. The desserts also stood out as unique, with the cinnamon flan being delicate and not-too-sweet while the olive oil ice cream was surprisingly savory. About the only thing that I might want to change was a bit more description of the wines that were available. Some seemed to just be the winemaker name and general location, not even the varietal, and it would have helped to have had a bit more guidance, though the general "light/medium/rich" descriptors were helpful. I enjoyed the red vinho verde in particular as an excellent pairing for most of the food. Service was fine, though it seemed to be more of a "team service" than having one individual waiter, which could occasionally be confusing.

Yelp
Savory plates were great, desert delicious, a few items not very authentic or over sauced like the seafood salad, but so many flavors and choices. Will go back. Sangria was delicious.

Yelp
The food was excellent, wine and port selections were terrific, and it transported me back to Lisbon. Crab empanadas were delicious.

Yelp
What we loved: - convenient location: lots of street parking all around and right in the town square - crab empanadas: so delicious! The batter is thick and crunchy; the filling was light. - Mac and cheese: not overly cheesy. We loved the cavatappi pasta - caldo verde: this soup is creamy with potato and sausage. So hearty and tasty - rice pudding: served hot with cinnamon on top. Really delicious without being overly rich. - flan: silky smooth and sweet, we could eat a platter! Room to improve: - the tables are so so close together, and it can be very uncomfortable. - the cheeseboard is perhaps not best suited for the soup. My soup was spilled onto my other items when it was brought to the table :(

Yelp
Sangria was de-li-cious! Between the three of us, we ordered a seven + three course menu, which was enough. We didn't think it was going to be enough food at first, but we started to get full after devouring the first tasting menu. Though now looking back at it, we probably should've gotten a seven + five so we could've tried more desserts. The must tries: Crab empanada - OMG Escargot Ceviche Mango mousse Overall, food was great and service was on point. Our server was knowledgeable and gave good recommendations. It was a lovely dining experience to cap off my visit to wine country.

Yelp
Pretty solid place in the heart of Sonoma city. They specialize in Portuguese tapas on boards that contain either 3, 5 or 7 small plates. For two of us, the 7 piece board was perfect. Food was good, I particularly liked the chorizo mac and cheese and the wings. Finished with warm rice pudding, which was excellent. Recommend trying this place for a relaxed vibe and solid food
