I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at 778 on Blue Hills Avenue in Bloomfield was so unacceptable that I feel others should be aware.
Before visiting, I called the restaurant to ask a question. Twice, I was hung up on mid-sentence and was told they "don't take orders over the phone" -- even though I wasn't trying to place one. Despite that rude start, I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and visit in person.
When I arrived, the parking lot and dining area were empty. I placed my order, but when I received my food, I took a taste, which was dry; the yams had only bits. To say the least, the food did not taste good, plus the service. Given the earlier treatment and the food quality, I decided to return it.
Before I could explain my concern, the woman behind the counter immediately began yelling at me, using profanity, including telling me to "F*** off," and ordered me to leave. When I asked to speak with the owner, she told me she was the owner, which was even more shocking given the behavior.
After I left, she actually followed me outside, continuing to yell and berate me as I got into my car and even as I drove away. This was one of the most unprofessional and hostile customer service experiences I've ever had.
I would strongly caution anyone considering dining here. Professionalism, courtesy, and basic respect for customers were completely absent from my visit. If the owner represents herself in this way with no hesitation. This type of behavior is the reason I'm concerned about the quality of the food and preparation, not just the taste. If she doesn't have concern in front of the customer, what happens in the back where we can't see? The Madea behavior is for television, not for a serious business owner.
