We were with family and friends in Vegas and excited to check out the Vegas strip food scene. My daughter booked with Taste Buzz Food Tours and we each paid $99 plus tax per person. I've been on several food tours, stateside, in Mexico and Europe and (at the minimum) I expected something somewhat close in value to the advertised price tag. However, I was totally disappointed and for good reason. April was our tour guide. And although she shared some interesting and fun facts along the tour, she did not engage with the group much. But this was all about the food and here is a description of the food at each stop.
Stop 1. Mexican Street Food which consisted of a half of a hotdog and a cup of corn salad. The corn salad was tasty. My expectation was that we can only go up from here, . . . Not.
Stop 2. We were excited to go from savory to sweet at The Honolulu Cookie Company. However, we could only sample one extremely small cookie. Initially, we were told to go for it, but were soon corrected and offered one very small 2 inch cookie, which was nothing to write home about.
Stop 3. Pizza Place - We could get a cheese slice and a pepperoni slice. Nothing exciting there. However, my daughter had a gluten free pizza sample, and she was quite pleased with it.
Stop 4. A quaint little gelato shop. You can enjoy many different flavors of gelato at this Willy Wonka place and your choice of several different flavors and toppings from the massive chocolate fountain along with a wide selection of different macaron cookies to choose from to top it off. They also offer a wide selection of sandwiches and beverages. This was a fun and vibrant stop on the tour.
Stop 5. Las Vegas Spirits and Spice, offering unique liqueurs, oils and spices. The olive oils and the liqueurs were very tasty. The store host was very informative and they were definitely generous with the various samplings. This was nice and several people within the group purchased something. However, this place hands out free samples to everyone that walks by their shop so I'm not sure how our samples were valued into the $99 price tag for this tour. We did get a little presentation but the same olive oils, vinegar and liqueurs that we sampled, we saw others outside of our group also sampling.
So, I guess if you don't count this place it would be 5 stops we made on this tour. In addition, it is not the fault of the tour group company for the action or inaction of the merchants they partner with. But, it would be good for them to not take their groups to places that have known customer service issues and many public complaints. One person in the group still has not received their order via mail and it's been close to 3 weeks now.
Moving along, Stop 6 the very last place, we actually sat down and had several savory and tasty food samples at the Sugarcane Raw Bar Grill. It is part of a restaurant chain, located in a few different cities. However, the food was very good and it had a great ambiance. This was about the only place that felt like part of a real food tour. If the tour had included a few more stops of this quality, our group would have been much more satisfied.
Overall, I would say this was just a day of something to do. Overall, the quantity and quality of the food definitely was not worth the value of the price tag that we paid. I don't know how Taste Buzz has 5 stars. I can only give Taste Buzz Food Tours Las Vegas 2 stars at the most. 3 stars would be a real stretch. Don't waste your time unless you happen to be totally bored in Sin City.
