"The city's sizable Malaysian community has been well-represented by this Elmhurst mainstay—and one of the best restaurants in the city—for more than three decades. The walls are covered in photos of curries, noodles, and more of the roughly 200 dishes available. At least there’s one decision you’ll have already made: which beer or wine to bring along with you." - molly fitzpatrick, bryan kim, willa moore, will hartman, sonal shah
"When it comes to “eating like a New Yorker,” it’s always pizza this, pastrami that. Everyone has different criteria for what makes something a New York food staple, but we’d like to nominate kari laksa. Specifically, the Singapore kari laksa at Taste Good. The city's sizable Malaysian community has been well-represented by this Elmhurst mainstay for more than three decades. In the small, narrow space—seemingly untouched since they opened in the '90s—you’ll sit perched on a wooden bench, elbow-to-elbow during the dinner rush, eating that creamy coconut laksa, or sizzling bean curd, or Hainanese chicken, or anything else that calls to you from the wall of food photos. Follow your heart, and know that they more than deliver on the promise of their name. It’s all going to Taste Amazing." - bryan kim, molly fitzpatrick, willa moore, will hartman, sonal shah
"Before you read the rest of this list, call a couple friends and go to Taste Good. Not only does this Elmhurst spot serve some of the best Malaysian food in the five boroughs, they’re one of the best restaurants in the city, period. Photos of food—and not much else—plaster the walls to help you with the impossible task of choosing between pages of curries, seafood, and noodles. Everything arrives at the table in a fraction of the time it took you to decide what to order. We love the sizzling salted egg bean curd and potent Singapore kari laksa, but you should just get whatever speaks to you. As promised, everything tastes good." - bryan kim, sonal shah, willa moore, neha talreja
"Taste Good? More like Taste Amazing. We apologize for picking that low-hanging fruit, but it’s important you know that, in terms of its name, this slender Malaysian restaurant is selling itself short. The roti canai here is chewy, flaky and undeniably one of the best things you can eat in this city, and the creamy broth in the Singapore kari laksa tastes like the distilled and perfected essence of shrimp. Order both of these dishes, and start with a plate of the Malaysian satay panggang." - will hartman, bryan kim, hannah albertine, neha talreja, willa moore
