Taste Harlem Food and Cultural Tours

I went on Taste Harlem's food tour last week and felt my tour guide Jackie, was great! She was very enthusiastic and knew a lot about Harlem. I also loved meeting people from all over the world on the tour and the food was very good. I was stuffed by the end of the tour but you do plenty of walking it off! I would go back on this tour just to learn more inside facts that they shared.

I loved the Taste Harlem Tour. Our guide Jacqueline was clearly passionate about the community (which I admittedly knew little about, or only knew of stereotypes,) and shared lots of information and insight about the area both past and present. The food was all delicious (and I can be picky, so if you are too then trust me that there were no really odd or unusual dishes) and was the perfect amount, not too much nor too little. Definitely the highlight of my visit to NYC.

Our tour was led by the company owner, Jackie. She was awesome! Friendly, informative, unrushed. Our tour only had 8 participants which was great for us. Harlem’s history is very interesting and the food was excellent! Instead of many quick stops like other food tours, this one had 2 dessert quickies (rugelach by a brother & an almond croissant) and 3 sit downs - each of which was almost enough food for a whole meal. Each of the seatings was great - Southern, soul and West African. I highly recommend!

We had the most wonderful experience with Taste Harlem! Taste Harlem organized a tasting with food and drink at a number of wonderful Harlem restaurants, ending at a Blues Club and everyone had a fantastic time! Jackie Orange arranged every detail flawlessly and we learned, ate and drank and made merry - I highly recommend!!! Not just for tourists!

Despite mother nature's uncooperative mood that day, Jacqueline kept us thoroughly engaged and excited about all the places we were about to visit! She was super friendly, passionate, knowledgeable and fun! The portion sizes at each stop were beyond my wildest expectations and we were really very full by the end! The food we tasted was incredible: chicken and waffles, grits, hand crafted african teas, mac & cheese, the neighbourhood's best rugelach, and the list goes on. I would definitely recommend this tour to a friend :).

Was an exciting and excellent tour our guide George cape use moving and excited about coming to Harlem New York for an outstanding experience. The restaurants we went to the food was delicious and plentiful. I would highly recommend this tour and the price was right.

Excellent tour through Harlem with great tastes

This afternoon my husband and I decided to take a tour of what Harlem had to offer and therefore decided to take a tour with Taste Harlem Food and cultural tour. We started our tour at Sylvia's Restaurant and our first meal consisted of Chicken and waffles. Our tour guide educated us on the creation of the meal and how it became staple item in soul food restaurants. Overall our tour guide,Jacqueline, was amazing. She was very knowledgeable of the community and took us to multiple restaurants and eateries that offered many different types of cuisines. I highly recommend that if you ever visit NYC or even live in the city... that you sign up for this tour. I will recommend it to my friends and family.

What a great experience my boyfriend and I had. I have always wanted to visit Harlem, but never had the opportunity. This time we decided to go on the food tour and it was beyond my expectations! Not only was the tour guide spectacular, she goes over and beyond the call of duty. The tour was educational and delicious! I definitely recommend this tour. I know that everyone on our tour (coincidentally most from California) had such an amazing time. I left feeling stuffed and excited about all the fun facts we learned throughout the day.

The Taste of Harlem tour was fantastic! My family are local to NYC, but every year we take a tour of New York as our holiday gift so that we can learn more about our city. So we've been on a bunch of these tours and I have to say this tour was fantastic! Jackie was gracious, enthusiastic, helpful, had every little detail covered and was TRULY invested in each of the members of the group enjoying ourselves. She also knows so much about the history and current evolution of the neighborhoods, it was great to learn from her. I cannot say enough positive things about the tour, I look forward to learning more about the wonderful Harlem areas. My whole family loved the experience. THANK YOU JACKIE!!!!!!

We are native New Yorkers and did the Historical Food Tour with some friends for my husband's birthday - it was a huge hit with amazing food and information - tremendously fun! Highly recommend. Jacqueline is hugely knowledgeable and has a great sense of how to make this a special experience tailored to your interest.

For my husband's birthday, our group of six had a most wonderful cultural tour of Harlem with scholar John Reddick. We worked with Jackie to arrange this private tour and I cannot recommend this company enough. Jackie even met us at the end with an edible group gift. We strolled with John past gorgeous brownstones as we learned about the history of Harlem - the architecture, people, music, theater, and felt completely comfortable throughout. Little did we know that Broadway had its origins here! The cost was very reasonable and Jackie was terrific to work with. From beginning to end, everything was fantastic!

The Drag Show was great. I love Harmonica Sunbeam. However, the food was terrible and the advertisement was misleading. I had the chicken and waffles and needed hot sauce. The fried chicken didn't have any flavor. Also the advertisement said unlimited for 2 hours. However after 1 mimosa we were told we would charged $10 for each one. We were told the unlimited for 2 hours was for entertainment (which was not 2 hours). The manager seemed very embarrassed when I showed her the advertisement- which I had saved in my phone. Very disappointed and will not be returning.

Great tour and great food. Our guide, Jacqueline, was knowledgeable about everything from food to history to architecture and beyond. Lots of walking to wear off the calories, but an easy pace. Great brisket!

We had an amazing time with Jacqueline (the owner) on our recent food and cultural tour with her. Over four hours of amazing food and history. We learned so much. I cannot believe someone would visit this area without having a local guide telling you all the stories behind what you are looking at. The food was just a complete bonus! My wife and I left stuffed and had a very abbreviated dinner that night. Highly recommended for couples, singles or families. One of the best food tours we have ever taken! She definitely needs to raise her prices.

The tour was great! The taste of Harlem tour was selected to provide some history of Harlem for my recent high school graduate daughter and myself while also keeping my 6 year old son engaged. It worked! It provided much needed breaks and food/drink for my son as well as being very informative about Harlem history. Jacqueline reached out to me prior to our tour concerning a scheduling conflict and I was afraid that we might miss out. But, she was very accommodating and we were able to work things out allowing us to experience The Taste of Harlem during our short visit to NY. I recommend this tour for foodies interested in Harlem history. Enjoy!
