Taste of Chennai

Ordered my food to go and ate in my car. The staff was very friendly and the chicken biryani was delicious. The right amount of spice and flavor with all the food. The yogurt they gave me with the dish was very good to drizzle on the food. Helped cool my mouth down for more bites. Will definitely come back.

Dined here for dinner a few weeks ago and absolutely loved it. The food was great and service was excellent. Friendly, family-run atmosphere. The menu has a few pan-Indian staples but more regional (Chennai) cuisine.

When I visited the buffet is good but the menu u find in the buffet are too few which is only negative thing I found. We normally go for buffet so that we can taste different dishes in one plate 🍽 but if you find too few of these dishes in buffet then there is not much of point in choosing buffet. If it comes to taste I am a spicy guy so I find the food provided here mild for me not much of spicy. If you are not too much into spiciness then this place is good for you

Awesome service, awesome food. Very attentative to the customer. I ordered to go my first time and came back with my family to eat. I enjoy the Chicken tikka masala and the Dal fry. During our dine in visit we were offered awesome complimentary soups and appetizer chips for the kiddos. We will come back again. You should try it. The taste is great.

Authentic South Indian food. Every single item I had here was amazing and it's the best that I've had in Houston! The owner and the staff are extremely friendly. Service was fast too. Would highly recommend it to anyone who likes authentic food

Authentic Indian food, friendly and polite staff!Had been there twice and each time had an amazing experience. Though they are specialized in south indian dishes, I found North indian dishes were equally good. Will visit again for sure!

We came here for family lunch and it turned out to be very nice place. Food was very nice, tasty and less spicy. Every item in the buffet was good. Their dessert was mouthwatering. I would recommend this place to everyone!

Food was fantastic & affordable. Took my coworkers here for lunch, we arrived a little early but was still seated, I thought we would have to wait outside until they opened. Service was great, they were very helpful and polite. They had an a la carte menu but we chose the lunch non veg thali option. It was plentiful and free refills on what's in your platter! They switch it up apparently based on what they cook that day, so the platter contents may be different for different people. Mine consisted of daal (lentil soup), big bowl of rice, lamb curry, chicken tikka curry?, a dessert that looked like lentils?, veggies, yogurt, quinoa, fruits, naan, this crunchy thing (papdri?), achar & plain curry. Did I mention it was very good? I will definitely return with more people. I just hope they have the thali option during dinner time, since a lot of other places have it only for lunch. They said they were new to the area and still getting their bearings alligned, everything looked fine to me. Not very many seating though. Edit: We have been to this place many more times and they have turned it into a buffet with faster and better service. The food quality is great. The options are very different from what I've seen in other places. The ambience has gotten a lot better. Absolutely recommend this place!

Super yummy cuisine from South India! They switched owners and was called Taste of Chennai before. Great quality and selection of food to satisfy the veggie, seafood and meat lovers! Usually I only get served naan, but they also include dosa. This is a very cozy and clean place to have a meal, and also the server and management were friendly.

Went in for the lunch thali the other day and really enjoyed it! Had the Chicken Thali with a few additional items like samosa, naan, and iced tea which were all delicious! Will definitely be coming back to try the weekend buffet

So heard a lot about this place and we were really looking forward to try it out. As soon as we entered a pleasant looking gentleman greeted and who seated us promptly. There was some unpleasant odor around the restaurant. We ordered mutton biryani, vada, Dosa, parotta and pepper chicken. They almost took 45 mins to get the order. Firstly the mutton biryani was good in flavor but had hardly any pieces in it. The vada was not cooked properly and the dosa was average. The chutneys with the dosa seemed not to fresh. I would strongly suggest you to go to either sangam or kumars for some good food. Overall we were disappointed with the food and the service.

My husband and I wanted to try out the new Indian restaurant that came in where the previous new restaurant suddenly closed. We were a bit worried that there was only one person there at straight up noon. There was a small buffet with vegetarian and chicken and one goat option. I ordered a dosa. No plain basmati rice offered on the buffet. We both thought it was decent. The dosa went flat pretty quickly. So not the best IMHO. The worst part is that both my husband and I have been sick all night. My husband worse than me. He ate more of the chicken dishes than I did. It's not the spices. We are used to eating Indian food. Stay away from this place!!!!

The lunch buffet here is amazing both in variety and quality! Great price too. You will get so full just trying a little bit of everything... 3 types of biryani, lots of curries (paneer, goat, chicken, fish, etc), plenty of vegetarian options, several sauces and desserts... the naan was cooked so perfectly and the tandoori chicken is fresh (not dry like some places). The service is friendly and the restaurant is very nice and clean! Would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting a decent lunch buffet!

Horrible!! I tried two items twice : dhal tadka and navratan kurma. Both times it was totally different dish, totally ! Poor quality add very inconsistent in dish preparations . Not professionally run !!

Don't even bother going, they are just rude and unprofessionals. The food is ok and you will be waiting for long.

worst food i ever tasted ! also they have items on menu ( Naan) , they cant prepare - like the tandoor - but accepted order and delivered paratta ( upon calling , they mentioned they dont have the tandoor) ; very poor quality food ; Goat biryani had charred pieces ( very few pieces in the order ) of goat ; and their chicken curry dosa didnt look like anything on the menu - it had egg instead of chicken and was uncooked - i could taste the uncooked dough !! i enjoy all kinda of cuisine and am pretty forgiving about food - but this deserves a mention here - i dont want anyone else getting fooled by this place !!

The food quality and taste have gone down since the change of management, and you better be there at 11:30 if you want to get anything to eat. Once it is gone they take too long to replace it and if you are are on a lunch schedule you are out of luck

Great deal on the buffet for lunch with selections changing every day. Everything I've tried has been delicious and the wait staff are extremely friendly and attentive. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian options in buffet as well as on the extensive menu. Dosas are made-to-order and come with the buffet. Huge, crispy and amazing! So glad to have found this place since I never know what to order when going to Indian restaurants. Now I can try several different appetizers, biryanis and curries each time I go to Samy's...and end the meal with a great dessert too!

Excellent food, courteous and prompt service. I would highly recommend Dosakall for those who really appreciate a good dosa. We had the samosas and Manchurian chicken as appetizers......both very good. My wife had the masala dosa and I had the dosa with lamb curry.....as good as any we have had in the south in India. You won't be disappointed.
