The 38 Essential Amsterdam Restaurants

"There are also a dizzying array of excellent choices on the menu at Taste of Culture, from elegant dim sum to pungent mapo tofu, but everyone comes for one thing: the finest Peking duck in town, with tender meat and incredibly crispy skin. One of Amsterdam’s best Chinese places, the restaurant offers duck by the half or whole, served with rice and various sauces, or sliced and served with paper-thin pancakes." - Monique van Loon

Rarely do you find a Chinese restaurant that hits this good. We ordered multiple dishes and each were fantastic. In fact, we went back a second night to order and try the dishes we saw being hustled to other tables in the restaurant. I highly recommend the Hong Kong Beef, the Singapore Noodles and the Hot and Sour soup. My only regret is not having another night to be able to go back. Will definitely visit Amsterdam again, just to eat here. 💯⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We visited this restaurant earlier this week. While the food was generally good and several staff members were friendly and professional, our overall experience was affected by one disturbing incident. One of the servers (a round-faced Asian woman in her 30s or 40s) displayed noticeably rude behavior toward our table (we are Asian guests). Her tone was curt and dismissive throughout the service. What made it particularly confusing and upsetting was that the other servers were very kind and welcoming, and we noticed that this particular server treated non-Asian (especially white) guests with noticeably more respect and warmth. We sincerely hope this wasn’t a case of internalized bias or some form of discriminatory behavior. This review is not meant as a complaint for the sake of it, yet we hope the management takes this seriously. Behavior that appears to reflect bias, whether intentional or not, can have a lasting impact on customers’ experience.

I recently visited this Chinese restaurant, and while the food was absolutely delicious and the staff was incredibly friendly and efficient, the atmosphere was a bit too chaotic for my taste. The place was packed, and the noise level was quite high, with people talking and laughing loudly, making it feel a bit overwhelming at times. If you’re looking for a lively spot with great food, this is definitely a good choice. However, if you’re planning a romantic dinner or a quiet evening with your partner, this might not be the best option.

I’ve always had great and beautiful memories at this restaurant. After a night out in Amsterdam, it was one of the few places where you could still get a good meal late in the evening. I haven’t been there in a while, and it seems like not much has changed. The food is good and the staff is friendly.

Google
Authentic Chinese food, but way too overpriced. Additionally, very poor customer service, lots of personnel talking, standing and walking around but non paying attention when you want to order. The atmosphere and acoustic inside are extremely bad, very noisy and lousy to the point you can barely hear yourself talk. Would not recommend unless you’re really hungry and looking for something to eat at midnight.

Google
Food here is delicious and reasonably priced for Amsterdam city center. Can definitely recommend the kip cashew and Peking Duck. Service is also very quick and friendly! *make a reservation in advance there was a line outside and all tables were occupied

Google
One of the best chinese places in Amsterdam. Went here with a Chinese friend of mine and it was so good, love the mapo tofu😁

Ordered starters. 2 times scallops. Took them over half an hour. Two tables after us got there full meals. Roasted duck, fried rice and two other side dishes. I think when I looked at a waitress she said it was coming. When it finally arrived nobody cared to asked us about our main courses. I had to go up to the counter and order. To expensive for this kinda service.

Yelp
Looking for late night Asian food that tastes authentic? High and having the munchies? Tired of bitterballs? This is your place! They have hundreds of items on the menu. Worth the walk here.

Yelp
Came here for some late night dim sum. It was waacckkkk. Also the prices are $$$ for what's normal. Seems like most people on here like the regular dishes so maybe we should've gotten those instead! It also took forever for the food to come out!! Other tables got their food before us even though they came after us! DO NOT GET THE DIM SUM HERE.

Yelp
Really yummy food! We enjoyed eating here so much, and you can tell everyone else in the restaurant did as well. Good service. Atmosphere is fairly ordinary, but there is a good vibe in the place. Eat here!

Yelp
Omg the Peking duck here is amazing! We got here after I saw a pic of the duck and we had to have it. Sooo good! And I've been in Beijing just for the peking duck. I am not kidding you! The skin is crispy, fat carefully separated, meat is tender, served with super thin lotus pancakes, scallions and cucumbers. Absolutely amazing! We also got eggplant vegetable dish and a mix of fish and seafood in the curry sauce. Both were very good, but I am coming back for the duck. Oh and almost forgot we ordered Long Baos - which were not good. They were dry, the skin was super thick and tasteless. I feel bad that I ate them. Talked to the waitress and she also said the peking duck here is what brings all the regulars in. For all of that and 10% tip, we paid 75 Euro. Which is not bad.

Yelp
Hello!! If you ever in the mood for real asian food don't even bother going to chinatown at Zeedijk, this is the place you want to go! I highly recommend the calf rib in black bean sauce or if you with a larger group of people get the set menu which holds the biggest oysters ever and some seriously delightful dishes, can't rave enough! My new to go place for Chinese cravings

Yelp
Food is tasty and authentic. From what I hear- prices are cheaper at many different other spots. It was a high bill! However, I'm glad I went. The waiter wasn't quick, so make sure you have time!

Yelp
Really good Chinese food. Open late too! We were suggested taste of culture by a bartender at our hotel and it did not disappoint.

Yelp
I'm Chinese from San Francisco. I must say it's a hidden gem. Food is excellent and authentic.

Yelp
Hidden gem. Recommended by a local. Very unassuming presence with a flavorful impact. Hidden gem. Peking Duck

Yelp
Situated near restaurant row and on busy street full of other restaurants, you expected this place to be full of people, instead there were 5 tables being used. My wife looked over and said "are you sure?" And I said that folks on Yelp said it was like a hidden gem. Once we tasted our food we realized it was indeed a hidden gem. Don't let the sparseness fool you, come in and enjoy.

Yelp
One of the best Chinese restaurants in Amsterdam. Many here are actually serving Surinam and Indonesian dishes, but this is an original Chinese place. Great and efficient service in a 'hole in the wall'. If you want a good Chinese place in the heart of the tourist area, this is it. Not a tourists trap like 90% of the restaurants around the Leidseplein.

Yelp
Oh, wow. I've had a lot of authentic Chinese and I must say everything was awesome. We stumbled upon this place. It's amongst a lot of touristy restaurants --- hole in the wall it seemed but OH so good. The two of us had the wonton soup with shrimp and pork, duck, pork dumplings, and chicken noodles. We worried we'd have a lot of left overs but we finished everything ! We thought maybe the msg made it taste so good and we'd feel sick after but nah, we feel 100%. We told the waitress the chili sauce was amazing - she told us they sell it for 5eu. We got some -- had to. So good ! Great service too. Highly recommend :)

Yelp
Not sure if it was an off day but had the Won Ton soup, Chinese Broccoli with Beef and deep fried beef potstickers. All three dished lacked flavor and the beef/broccoli was very watery. Soup was nothing like the places in Chinatown. I should have walked to China Town for better options.

After finally finding a parking spot and organiZed cash as the ATM didnt work, i was rejected. There were Many tables available But they claimed they couldnt handle it. Very poor customer service. Wont come back.

Yelp
Five star Cantonese cuisine in the heart of Amsterdam. You can't beat this place for authenticity and great price/value! Favorites here are the duck, ginger beef, clay pot dishes such as the lamb. Finish off your evening with a stroll across the street @the whiskey cafe.

Yelp
wow! i was very pleasantly suprised by this place! authentic chinese but caters to other more westernized taste buds, ie: they had a bottle of dutch seasoning sauce on every table. yelp entity says it's 2 euro signs but i think it's definitely more like 3 euro signs. not cheap but not outrageous. we had a bowl of the shrimp wonton soup and a beef with vegetables and macadamia nut dish (i apologize i don't know the chinese names for the dishes, i just know what i like). the meat dish was amazing. plump perfectly cooked (not overcooked) chunks of meat and they weren't shy with all the macadamia nuts either. next time i want to try one of their hot pot dishes. they looked amazing. also the salt pepper dishes looked great. it's so nice to find a place closer to my hood than having to go all the way up to zeedyke for some asian eats. as for service, one of the servers was very nice, the other one couldn't be bothered...
