I came today to pick up my order AND WOW delicious gyros :) tomato tasted as real tomato and looked fresh. It was pour raining and they gave me a plastic bag (love that they use paper bag) for my food and a cardboard to use as umbrella 😅😊. This is definitely not going to be the only time, I might even be back for my bday. Loved the place and I hope it continues as it grows with the same attitude 🩷

If you’re looking for authentic Greek food that warms both your heart and your stomach, look no further than Taste of Gyro. From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed like family. The space may be small, but the flavors are larger than life. The classic gyros platter and the porkchops are absolutely the best I’ve ever had juicy, perfectly seasoned. Every bite is bursting with flavor, and the tzatziki sauce is so fresh and creamy it deserves its own spotlight. The sides, from the tomatoes and feta salads to the golden fries, round everything out beautifully. What really makes this place special is the care and love in every dish. You can taste the authenticity, the passion, and the dedication to quality. It’s the kind of food that makes you slow down and savor, because you don’t want the meal to end. Taste of Gyro is truly a hidden gem, and once you eat here, you’ll keep coming back again and again. Highly recommend to anyone who wants the best Greek food around!

This place has everything you look for when dining out! The menu is straightforward, the ingredients are fresh, and the portions are generous. It feels like you’re in Greece when you enter! By far, the best Greek spot in Astoria!

Google
Perfect little neighborhood gyro shop. We are frequent customers. Very residential area, quiet and relaxed. The food is great, it always tastes very fresh. Large portions. Our usual waitress Violetta is attentive, friendly, and wonderful. We live a block away and they are good neighbors and a wonderful addition to the community. Only drawback when visiting is that parking can be a challenge.

Food was delicious. If you're in a hurry, this place isn't for you. We would definitely return. I especially loved their lemon potatoes.

Google
Been here a few times and always had a great experience. The food tastes amazing, especially the platters, the portions are more than fair for the price, and the owners are very friendly. I personally love the chicken souvlaki and sweet potato fries, they are both fantastic. The soups are also a highlight, the few I've tried have always been great. Overall, you really can't go wrong with any order, its all great! Highly recommend if you want fantastic authentic Greek food.

Google
This is by far the closest taste to the food in Greece! Amazing service, great atmosphere, food tastes delicious and they have Greek sodas which are excellent. People that work here are all Greek. I highly recommend this place. If you don’t have time to go to Greece this year, just come by this place.

Yelp
Had the best gyro in a long time this past Sunday at the Taste of Gyro. I'm glad I stopped at this very out of the way location. I happened to drive by it on this quiet residential street and was so intrigued that a restaurant would even be on this corner. Had to be good...right? And it was. I only had the namesake dish but saw dios and plates going out to another table and all looked legit. And big portions. The decore was low key Mediterranean and clean. And the folks running it felt like Family. The service wasn't super quick but worth the wait for freshly prepared food. Though it did look like wait times for food could get long if they're busy. I can't wait to get back here to try more of the menu.

Yelp
I asked a friend ," who has the best souvlaki in Astoria and she said Taste of Gryo.my wife ordered the lamb gryo and I got the grilled pork chops,, when delivered we were amazed,,the pork chops were 2 perfectly seasoned and cooked chops,,the fries were perfectly cooked and had a nice seasoning and also came with a Greek salad and pita bread..my wife said her lamb gryo was the best she ever had..we have been to all the local spots and this place is by far the best..

Yelp
Really enjoyed stopping off in Astoria on the way back from NYC to try a local Greek eateries gyros. They were flavorful and fresh. The owner was pleasant. The decor was kitschy and slightly charming. The wait for 2 Gyros to go was a bit long as people were coming in to pick up phone orders.. so when my order was finally done it wasn't mine. Lol. So think nice cute shop, not fast grab and go. Might take a bit if they have other orders going. Probable best to come here, sit and enjoy a relaxed bite. Casual sit down or take out.

Yelp
I was looking for an authentic gyro and that's what I found. The place was clean, the service was fast, and the person that took my order was very nice.

Yelp
My husband, 2 young children, and I came early on Saturday evening and had the best meal! We ordered the lamb gyro platter and chicken souvlaki platter and both were incredible. Also plenty of food for the 4 of us. Definitely coming back!

Yelp
Small spot on a residential corner, but it was absolutely delicious. The kitchen is staffed by actual Greek chefs and the pride in the food shows. We had hummus, spicy feta dip, and fried calamari to start. Let me tell you, I've eaten A LOT of fried calamari over the years and this is the BEST calamari I've had in my life-- I think it was only a special thought, but if it's available, GET IT! The hummus and spicy feta were also outstanding. For my meal I had the pork gyro-delicious! And it comes with some fries on it that are seasoned fantastically. I had some rice pudding for dessert which is made in house, and is also amazing. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
This is such a hidden gem in Astoria . It is a husband , wife , daughter restaurant that surpasses my expectations every single time . I love their lamb gyro , my best friend loved their chicken gyro , the best we have ever had , and we have had many living in Astoria . I also had a cod fish special with lemon potatoes , again the flavor , the texture is something I have yet to find in another Greek restaurant and I have lived here for the last 15 years. Do yourself favor and check them out . The service is amazing , always hospitable and extremely welcoming. , but not overbearing . The Ambiance is super cute , as though you were in Greece .

Yelp
Stopped by to grab take out. It is a very cute Greek restaurant and spacious. I ordered two pitas one with chicken souvlaki and one with lamb gyro. Both were so delicious and came filled with onions and fries. I saw a lot of other Greek patrons and it's definitely a neighborhood joint. Would definitely come back and try other items. The owner was also very kind and the service was quick.

Yelp
Not quite up to par yet. The day we arrived in drenching rain, Taste of Gyro had run out of gyros. So we had to order something else I ordered a chicken souvlaki pita, and my partner a lamb kebab pita. In both cases, neither dish was very filling and rather skimpy on the portions of meat. For the lamb kebab pita, a bit of beef had been mixed in, which took away the taste of lamb immediately and made it taste like pork. We were not impressed to say the least and left hungry at the end. The family who has just opened this restaurant are very sweet and helpful, but I am afraid they have a long way to go regarding the quality of their presentation. Being skimpy on the meats was a negative as far as we are concerned. I'm certainly prepared to give them another try, but at this stage, I don't feel I can recommend them at this point.

Yelp
"Just wanted to call you to let you know your food is amazing" .... I think I scared the poor guy on the phone. My sister's boyfriend told me months ago about this place. Being that I work in the middle of nowhere it's tough to order takeout that will be $20+. Came back from a vacation and didn't have time to prep lunch so I decided to order from here. My god, my poor wallet for future takeout from here. Ordered through grubhub and purchased the lamb platter with lemon potatoes. A nice lady called to let me know the lemon potatoes won't be ready for another 2 hours ( I ordered around 10:30am) she suggested the mixed vegetables. Ouffffffffff the mixed vegetables were to die for. Cooked in a stew finish the flavor was packed in every bite. Melts in your mouth this was cooked for a very long time. Now I'm so curious to see how their lemon potatoes are. The salad was small, but understandable who eats salad except for me! The price for the platter was worth it, every bite made in this plastic container was never a disappointment. I'm excited knowing there is leftover to save for tomorrow lunch. Now I don't normally do this but I had to call them to let them know how much I enjoyed the meal. A gentleman picked up and was nervous. I think I almost gave him a fright but after the compliments were coming out of my mouth I felt him sigh with relief. Sir, if you are reading this I'm so sorry! The food was amazing and I will be a recurring customer twice a month. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Yelp
Lunch special Gyro $10! Can't go wrong! Both the Gyro and solvulaki was excellent! It's in a residential area. It was cute and clean. The owner was super nice! Would definitely go back.

Yelp
First impression - This place has that family owned, cozy, not quite a restaurant, not quite a cafe vibe to it, which for me makes it very welcoming but might turn some ppl away cause the aesthetic is lacking a bit. I got the feeling this place is fairly new but I could be wrong. I only had the lamb gyro so I can't say much about the food in general but it was pretty freakin good. They aren't stingy with the portions either. The staff and service were also excellent. The prices were also very fair. Overall I'd 100% stop by again if I'm in the area and if I lived in the neighborhood I'd probably be placing takeout orders here often!

Yelp
Very nice and authentic Greek restaurant. Very quiet and a good place to have a family meal. The prices are not bad at all. I had the lemon potatoes and the Lukaniko (lemon infused grilled sausage) was very good. I need to try their avgolemono soup next. Will definitely go there again

Yelp
So on a Saturday afternoon in May, we were looking for some good gyros and souvlaki. We used to go to a couple of different trucks around Queens, but they are no longer there so we need a good spot. The Yelp let us to this place and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere was very bright and clean and inviting. The personalities were extremely kind and the service was great. Then came the food. The food was everything you could ever hope for it to be, and then some hi. The chicken gyros, the hummus, the lemon potatoes. All amazing. Really great experience, the first of many to come. Highest recommendation and the prices were very reasonable to boot. Go and find out for yourself.

Yelp
The ambiance is super cute. The pictures framed with the window shutters is a very nice touch. The service was good. Very nice staff. The food was delicious. Tasty gem on a residential block. I will absolutely come back here again.

Yelp
I ordered way too much food but I was glad I got to try a lot of different things on the menu. Everyone was really nice. Food came out quickly and was delicious!

Yelp
this is now the best gyro in NYC, went there with the family yesterday, even my baby who is a picky eater ate a piece, my wife and dad got the lamb gyro and I opted for the pork, best use of seasoning I've ever experienced, French fries were perfect also, I've written reviews for other similar places in the past that have since lost the plot so I hope this place keeps doing what they did yesterday exactly the same way for a long time, oh and discovered "koukakia" which is like Greek profiterole, everything was delicious, and service was prompt and courteous

Yelp
Great original Greek little gyro spot, the best ever try here around for a long. This is a family business and the atmosphere here makes you feel very comfortable.

Yelp
Ordered a Pork Gyro Pita from here for lunch through DoorDash and unfortunately the order did not confirm. Once I arrived at the restaurant, they fulfilled my order within minutes despite the mix-up. On top of that, the lunch special ($10 gyros) is cheaper than DoorDash. This is real, authentic and quality Greek food. I definitely encourage stopping and eating here if you're in Astoria!

Yelp
Having lived in Astoria almost 20 years, I've had the pleasure of dining on delicious Greek cuisine, and Taste of Gyro is one of, if not THE BEST Greek food I've tasted. The chicken souvlaki platter (massive serving btw) has THE MOST flavorful, juicy chicken with incredible fries (that are spiced and cooked to perfection). The Branzini special I had was served with an incredible tomato based sauce that was unlike any I've tasted and out of this world delicious. Be sure to try the zucchini fritters that are fresh, succulent, and served with astounding tzatziki. Add to this, the most down to earth, friendly, and welcoming staff in a neat, clean, and quiet mom and pop environment, and you've got a place that keeps me coming back. It's just a 5 minute walk off of Ditmars and Steinway, on a quiet residential neighborhood and worth the trip. Do yourself a favor, head over to Taste of Gyro and delight in the taste sensations they provide. You'll be supporting hard working folks who put their heart and soul into everything that comes out of the kitchen, and you'll get some of the best Greek cuisine Astoria has to offer.

Yelp
After leaving LGA we found this Gem of a restaurant. The food is fabulous. Their French fries are so light and crispy. We never had fries this good. The meat was so flavorful.. Definitely Go!!

Yelp
just a perfect souvlaki! I came before a flight and loved every moment of it. So friendly, clean, and tasty

Tonia P.

Yelp
We arrived at the restaurant and it was closed. Yelp did not have the time the restaurant closed. A young lady closing the restaurant was gracious enough to allow us to order chicken soup, which was was delicious. It came out warm and with pita. Above and beyond hospitality. We will come back when the restaurant is open to enjoy the ambiance and try the delicious food.

Yelp
This is currently one of Astoria's most special restaurants. It's deceptively named Taste of Gyro, when their quality and range of excellent dishes and attention to detail and quality ingredients goes very far beyond the casual and limited spot you might expect by that name. This family owned and run restaurant fully demonstrates the highest level example of love of culture, cuisine, and sharing that only a rare few of restaurants achieve. Our fourth visit was last night, and I was maybe even more astounded by how NOTHING escapes their care and attention, including Astoria's best tzatziki and baklava, a somehow delicious mid-winter salad, with superior olives, and my husband's now unequivocal vote for best chicken souvlaki in Western Queens. Great hummus, and fresh, warmed pita. I kept expecting something would be just average there. Nothing was.

Yelp
I've been here a few times now and it's always excellent. Delicious, very friendly, clean, neighborhood-ey. A very welcome addition to the hood.

Leslie G.

Yelp
I came here with my friend and we had a wonderful time. We ordered their tzatziki, which is the best tzatziki I've had, and 2 pork and lamb kebab sandwiches. Seasoned to perfection with the right amount of meat, fries, and vegetables. We recommend to everyone who is in the Astoria area and neighboring!

Yelp
My wife and I were very impressed by both the food and the service at this off the beaten path restaurant. We will be back.
