Solid authentic Chinese food five-star lunch today. 12 to $13 combo lunches. We had egg roll hot and sour soup wonton soup Hunan pork Szechuan chow Mei fun, in general, tso's. The service was also five star. Everyone in there was attending to all the tables. I am not kidding when I say this, but you could hear other tables ooh and ah and say how delicious the food was. So glad to have found this hidden gem. Don't let the strip mall fool you. Portions were huge. Great value.

The other reviews were absolutely right—this is likely the most authentic Chinese restaurant in Sarasota. The flavors are well-balanced, with sauces that are neither overly salty nor sweet—just the way Chinese cuisine should be. While the menu is tailored slightly for American tastes (all fish are filleted, so no really fresh whole crispy fish I was hoping to find in traditional Chinese dining), the dishes still deliver on taste. One standout was the braised tofu, which reminded me of the flavors I experienced in Hong Kong—rich, savory, and comforting.

Service was hectic and slow but it was also New Years Day so understandable. Food was amazing just like New England Chinese food! Definitely would return!

I can’t recommend this place enough. The bourbon chicken is a masterpiece, and the pad Thai is always a go-to. Every time I leave, I feel full and satisfied, but never weighed down by preservatives—everything tastes fresh. The service can be a little reserved at first, but don’t let that throw you off; the waitresses are actually incredibly sweet, and as you become a regular, they warm up more and more. They do take a month off every year, and I genuinely miss them when they’re gone. Having been a loyal customer for seven years, I can confidently say that Taste of Hong Kong is easily one of the top three spots in Sarasota. I’ve never had a bad dish, and the consistency is unmatched. Highly recommend it!

We recently ordered takeout from Taste of Hong Kong in the Gulf Gate area, and it was an exceptional experience! We ordered the General’s Chicken, Chicken and Broccoli with Garlic Sauce, Beef Chow Fun with their homemade hand-stretched noodles, and Boneless Ribs. Every dish was freshly prepared and bursting with flavor. The General’s Chicken was perfectly crispy with just the right amount of sweetness and heat. The Chicken and Broccoli had a rich, savory garlic sauce that tied everything together beautifully. The Beef Chow Fun was a standout—the hand-stretched noodles were tender and had a great texture, truly a cut above the rest. The Boneless Ribs were tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. This is hands-down the best Chinese food we’ve had since moving to Sarasota. Highly recommend giving it a try if you’re in the area. We’ll definitely be back!

Friend ordered shrimp fried rice and egg drop soup. I ordered egg foo young and egg drop soup. We shared the salt and pepper calamari. Soup was very good! Calamari was AMAZING!! Crisp, light batter, tender calamari - more like strips, not rings, and not greasy! I would go back just for that!! Egg foo young was bland. Adding a little low-sodium soy sauce helped flavor up the gravy. Accompanying pork friend rice was meh. Shrimp friend rice was fairly tasteless and there were maybe 3, possibly 4 shrimp. My son has eaten there, and brought home mei fun that had a curry flavor and it was really tasty, so this experience was a little disappointing.

pork egg foo young is the best around. we also had the beef chop sued also excellent. the chicken they prepare (in our chicken fried rice) needs to be better, it tastes boiled. very popular place

Getting good food in Sarasota is no easy feat. Finding a good Asian resturant here is almost an impossibility. I have been to many. Even the most highly regarded are mediocre, at best. I can honestly say that Taste of Hong Kong was the best Chineese food I have had since moving to Sarasota. It wasn't perfect, but it was good. Better than good, just short of great. The serving sizes are more than ample. I got two meals out of my lunch. The crab rangoons were great. Nice and crispy, with a lot of nice, flavorful filling on the inside. I had the walnut chicken for lunch. I expected a chicken cashew sort of prep, but it was very different. And much better. The resturant is a tad crowded, but it's busy, the staff is great, the food very good. Well worth the drive and the cost, which I found the cost to be very fair.

The place was full as we walked in on a Sunday at 6:00 pm. Great sign !! Greater right away and we ordered Eggdrop wonton soup came with wonton strips. Very good. For the entree we ordered special fried rice and Mongolian beef. Both were very tasty and plentiful ! Great fast Chinese restaurant

I ordered take out and I think it's a better idea to go inside and deal with the attitude. While the food is still pretty good the portions are about half of what you'd get sitting in to eat. I doubt I will go back inside or to-go, despite the decent food. It's either be treated poorly or get less food, I'll just go else where if those are the options.

Highly recommended by the Culinary staff at ACE continuing education school at Beneva and Proctor. Nice setting, excellent staff and the food is like what I have had when in NYC and China town in San Francisco. What a treat to have this close to home.

My wife and I have been frequenting this establishment since it was Mak's over the last several decades and couldn't be happier with the food. Everything is outstanding pertaining to taste, portion size and pricing. Very friendly staff, regardless of when we arrive. I have even walked in at 2:20pm and they close at 2:30pm. They still sat me and allowed me order and eat as if I came in at noon. Never rushed me out. I highly recommend this establishment if you want excellent Chinese food. I do believe you actually get more food when you eat in compared to take out.

We love Hong Kong! The owner is always present and the wait staff is 2 wonderful servers who have been working here for years. Delicious entrees are always hot and large. Very reasonable prices.

Food was good, better than most Chinese restaurants in the Sarasota area. Close to Chinese restaurants in the suburbs of major cities with large Asian populations. Doesn't compare to restaurants in Hong Kong or NY & Boston Chinatowns. Other Chinese restaurants Sarasota county are too "Americanized". If I am in the area I will always eat here. Great friendly service.

This is usually where we go when we want Chinese. However after our experience tonight, never again. We were there at 4:10; 10 minutes after they open. The place was full. We were told it would be a 30 min wait. Ok. Not bad. 45 minutes later we were seated. Our appetizer came quickly but then we waited over an hour for our food. My husband was finally able to get our waitress's attention and ask what happened to our food? He assumed our ticket had been "lost" in the kitchen. Oh no.. we were told that there were two big tables that came in after us and their tickets were done before ours.. a total of 12 tickets. We have owned several restaurants and clearly the kitchen is totally mismanaged. Our two top ticket should have been done before the two big tables.. just logical. We expected a wait. That's fine. .. but two hours is crazy.. no apology.. just an explanation that even tho our ticket went before the two big tables, it was set aside so their food came out first. Poor to nonexistent management in the kitchen and poor service in the dining room. We will not be returning. We're done.

Really great dishes, especially the Hong Kong/Cantonese ones. I'm of Chinese descent, and I've had a hard time finding good Chinese food in Sarasota. This restaurant is one of the BEST! The roast duck was wonderful, as were the braised tofu and the seafood fried noodles. Reminded me of the quality of food that I can get in NYC and Toronto, which is high praise on both counts!

I took my Mom out for dinner. We both enjoy Chinese food. I ordered an unfiltered Saki (Nigori) and it was a darker yellow color, I'm familiar with more of a milky color as I expected. It didn't taste right. Waitress said she didn't drink so gave me an eye roll when I asked for the other clear saki on menu. We ordered chef specials. My meal had no scallops, as indicated on menu, and was super salty, no heat either, it was supposed to be a hot spicy dish. The place filled up quickly after we got there, and it felt very hot. I will say they did lower thermostat when I asked if they could as it was uncomfortable. I still tipped 20% , even though no credit was given for poor quality drinks, but when they grabbed my bill off the table that's when I said I won't be back. Super rude!

their won ton soup is excellent. So is the shrimp Mei fun. Their duck dipping sauce is watered down very badly. Prices are on the high side.

Great selections, good service. It's like going to China Town! We took some cousins that were visiting and they had a fun time trying some new dishes. Our server was so patient. You'll enjoy it!

Good old time Chinese-American Restaurant. Felt like the 1960's - 1970's again, in a good way. Good food, familiar menu items, okay service, reasonable prices. Give it try, you may like it.

Decent lunch options here. I tend to gravitate towards the pork egg foo young or sweet and sour chicken (wish they had pork). The lunch special to go comes with NY egg roll, little wonton crisps, and fried rice for under $10. When dining in believe you get soup or salad don't quote me.

Great little place for lunch. Went there today for my granddaughter's 10th birthday. We had Chinese tea,fried egg rolls,Chicken Pad Thai, Sweet and sour chicken, chicken nuggets, vegetarian fried rice, beef dish, and chicken chow neon. Everything was good and the birthday girl also had edamame. Prices are great and so was the service.

We had dinner tonight on Years Eve we arrived at 6pm and we waited one hour and 20 minutes before our meal arrived. It was very busy but we noticed that there was a lot of take out orders were being processed but all the people in the dining room were waiting a long time some people walked out. We were really annoyed we won't be returning it was one of our favorite places. They need to know that people in the restaurant need to eat first not takeout or hire more help for the holiday

What a great new discovery for us downtowners ! Great neighborhood place with delicious food & friendly/efficient service. It doesn't have the ambience of Kojo but it's a fraction of the price, and I actually found the food to taste better- reminded me of my favorite neighborhood place when I lived in nyc We had "salt + pepper" shrimp and it was perfectly prepared IYKYK -- Also had a "happy family" and beef chow fun! All of the classic favorites offered. Large portions. Thankful to have finally found a good Chinese restaurant for a quick dinner.

This is a local favorite for many many years and their style is pure American styled chinese food. Our go to meals are their spectacular crunchy egg roll dipped in plum sauce and all the lunch and highlighted dinner specials served with rice. Our go to favorites are their meaty juicy perfectly cooked spare ribs and the large dinner portion of shrimp egg foo young with lots of their yummy sauce. The family does a wonderful job keeping up with the crowds with their FAST hard work and beauty ful welcoming smiles. A truly favorite spot, warmly beautifully decorated comfortable ambiance relaxing intimate. Enjoy!

I would say the absolute best Chinese in Sarasota. An authentic sitdown Chinese restaurant. Very old-school love it.

Best Chinese food in Sarasota. I don't mean it's fantastic, but definitely the best in town. The Salt and Pepper Shrimp is excellent.

Have been searching Sarasota a Chinese restaurant more on par with New York for the last few years. Our foodie friends suggested we go with them to their favorite Chinese. So glad we did! The honey boneless spareribs are actually thin slices of honey pork that melt in your mouth...absolutely a home run and 5**** delicious! Could definitely taste that all the food was freshly prepared. I wouldn't say the service was the friendliest, somewhat typical of old world chinese. We tried a number of other dishes...salt and pepper calamari, eggplant, pot stickers, snow pea tips...all were very very good. Went back for 2nd time, and the honey spareribs are my go to from now on, so delicious. I'm a Chow Ho Fun snob, would rate that one dish as good, but not great...for Chow Ho Fun, Dim Sum King on University can't be beat and is always my go to for that dish also for Dim Sum. All in all, so happy to have been introduced to Taste of Hong Kong. A Plethora of authentic dishes and reasonable pricing as well. We have now taken other friends there, and they were also delighted.

My local favorite for Chinese, but closed on Mondays. Prepare to wait for a table, but takeout is just as good! Five Delight is awesome!

Wanted to try this place, got there at 2:10, they close at 2:30 for lunch break, When we got there the hostess was getting the menus then said they close at 2:30. We went to the car to look for another restaurant. The hostess was right on our heels. She just wanted to leave early

My family has been coming to this restaurant regularly for many years. We have all stopped coming as often since they keep raising their prices. We understand the need to raise them a few times during the Covid crisis, however they are still riding on the crisis' coattails raising their prices yet again. Price gauging to say the least. This is unethical and we have lost respect for the owner and her business practices.

In my opinion, this is the best Chinese food in the Sarasota area. Most authentic and aligned with Chinese food styles from the northeast. We love the Hunan chicken and the Singapore rice noodles. we get takeout frequently and our order is always correct time after time. Highly recommend if you are looking for an easy takeout experience and good Chinese food.

Food was outstanding!! The pork fried rice was the best we ever had! I had the Crispy Walnut Chicken and husband had the Happy Family. We also had Crab Rangoon and Egg Rolls. Service was great! No complaints at all! We can't wait to come back and try other items. Another couple had the ribs and they looked really good. We went on a Weds at 4:30. By 6 pm, they were packed full and the phone was ringing off the hook for pick up orders.

Excellent food, 100% of the time. This place has the freshest, hottest meals at the best price of any Chinese restaurant in Sarasota, hands down! I eat here at least 3 to 4 times per month and everytime, the same quality of food and service. It doesn't matter if I eat in, take out or have it delivered, it's always hot and fresh and tastes great!!

The egg rolls are hot and tasty. They have a combination section that is perfect for those trying to stay within a budget. It comes with an egg roll or soup and pork fried rice. There are about 15 options. Keep in mind the pork fried rice, in my opinion is not that good. I usually ask for the white rice. And if someone else is dining with you and they also choose a combo, they will lump the rice in one dish for all dining. Therefore, you kind of feel cheated on the rice portion. The chicken is always crispy and the house beef lo mein is outrageous. The wonton soup is generous and the hot tea is strong. This is a long established family who run a very busy take-out business. They have two servers, so if you are in a rush, call for take-out. If you want to hang out and talk with your guests, then come over, they have cold beer, sake, or sodas and teas to keep you company while you wait for the kitchen to get your order done. Friday nights are hopping but enjoyable.

Their website said it was open but when we arrived yesterday June 13th there was a note saying closed till June27th. Real disappointed

Just moved to Sarasota. First time ordering. Shrimp Lo Mein and egg rolls. Lo Mein was very tasty, piping hot with big, fat prawns. Delicious. Egg rolls were sublimely crispy. Will definitely be back.

We went for the first time on Saturday night and it was recommended to us. It smelled wonderful but there was an hour wait to be seated so we decided to go somewhere else but the menu looks great. I think that they are also short staffed and that's probably one of the reasons why it's taking so long to be seated and be served, we spoke to a gentleman that had placed an order over the phone and he had been waiting for 1hr for his pickup meal.

Soooooo 3 stars is not rating the food but the service and how they do business. I don't mind the $2 sharing charge but then they take away your soup! Plus our waitress was rather blah. Maybe the language barrier? I am a regular but afraid I may forfeit the dine in experience and just take out. The ratings are starting to drop here. Hopefully they read these reviews.

Ate here on a Saturday nite with wife. It was moderately busy. Wife had the bourbon chicken and really liked it. I had the Szechuan Chicken--ordered it medium but no heat was detected. Otherwise, pretty good and portion sizes were generous. Also had hot and sour soup and egg rolls. Service started out slow but got better once the entrees arrived. Fairly quiet despite the crowd and good ambiance. We will stop here again on our next trip.

With the name being Taste of Hong Kong, you would think you're getting good authentic Chinese food, but that is unfortunately not the case. I made the mistake of thinking I hadn't been here before when I had been here before and I ordered take-out here tonight, unintentionally giving it a second chance. I should never have trusted a Chinese restaurant that also serves Thai food. I ordered chicken chow mein. I should have realized something was wrong when I didn't see any chopsticks in my bag. When I got home and started eating, I realized that they gave me chicken and vegetables with a side of white rice. There was no noodle in there at all. I also didn't get the egg roll or spring roll that is supposed to come with items on the dinner special menu. Even the fortune cookie was stale. I am never going to this awful place again.

I'm sorry to have to update my opinion of this once favorite Asian cuisine, but after the Food inspections came out this week I can no longer patronize any longer. Come on you guys, is it that difficult to follow the rules? Totally disgusting.

If you lived in or visited HK - you'll enjoy their food!! The Ho Fun is exceptional. The Moo Shu outstanding!! And the price is reasonable!!!

The food is ok to good. it's the attitude and behavior of the woman in front that will prevent me from returning. We have been there 3 times and every time the same woman is snarky with the last time her saying she didn't care how we felt. Good authentic menu in addition to usual American Chinese. Really like the Seafood Tofu Pot, tend to get this usually. Husband liked the orange chicken, wasn't heavily battered like some places & sauce was light.

We placed a to go order on the phone, was never told a total price. But the menu prices on their website most definitely were incorrect. Our total according to the menu should have been ~$15, actual total $26 + tax. The pork fried rice was just brown rice with 3 mini pieces of burnt pork. The general tsos chicken was quite dry. The chicken egg foo young was pretty blah in flavor. The amount of food was great for the price- will definitely have leftovers. Overall there are better places nearby that I would rather give my business. We used to come here for a very long time but this is our first since covid & it was disappointingly average.

Lunch was fine I felt like some Chinese food for lunch and it had been a couple of years since my last visit. I was greeted when I walked in and shown to a table. Tea and crunchy noodles soon followed. They offer a lunch menu which a good selection of items. I decided on their Orange Chicken. Lunch items come with a roll or soup, and pork fried rice. It only took a couple of minutes for my soup to arrive and once I was finished, just a minute or two for my chicken. They are quick enough to make this a good lunch spot. I thought the food was fine. The chicken nuggets were crunchy, maybe even hard crunchy for a couple of pieces, and the pieces were hot when they arrived. I failed to detect much if any orange flavor with the sauce, but the sauce was good, as was the fried rice. I thought this was a fine lunch, reasonably priced. Service was polite and good. The restaurant has a typically Chinese look. There were no red tablecloths but there were astrology placemats. Pleasant Chinese music played in the background.

House fry rice was scorched and oily, house lo mein was bland and again oily the spring rolls were cold inside , first and last time
