Very tasty food. Easier to order and the fod areived hot snd fresh. We ordered paneer paratha, aloo paratha, chole bhatura and paneer wrap. Everything was really good and paneer wrap was really delicious. The sweets section was also very good and we bought some back home to enjoy. Will surely visit again

I visited for the first time with my husband after hearing a lot about the place on the radio. We were craving jalebi and samosas. The store was quiet when we walked in, probably due to working hours. The lady at the counter was on a call and seemed occupied, so there wasn’t much interaction at first. A little later, another staff member kindly greeted us. The jalebi was served cold, and the samosas were okay—overall. It was an average experience.

Google
Used to be a good restaurant. They are no longer using real cutlery. The food had so much oil in it. The lamb curry and spinach chicken had so much oil. Their sweets, especially the Jalebi, they are reusing the oil. Hence, the flavor has changed. Service was slow, and staff didn’t seem to care. After years of coming here, my family and I won’t be coming back. I was going to order food for a company event, but no go. I will see how other people review and might give your restaurant another chance.

Google
My first time having Indian food. Everything I tried I love! The staff and service were friendly and welcoming. This place did not disappoint 👏 I would highly recommend.

Google
Ordered food through Uber twice and it was 2 completely different experiences. 1st day I got the lamb biryani, butter chicken, 2 desserts and a coke. 2nd day goat biryani and a coke. 1st day I ordered for myself and the food was amazing. The butter chicken was good, the desserts weren't my thing but I can see why someone would enjoy them. The lamb biryani was fire, it tasted like birria in rice (they're both made of lamb). 2nd day :( the goat biryani was more of a bone biryani. There's literally almost no goat in the plate just bone and bone shards, after pulling out 2 bone fragments I'm afraid to even attempt to eat it. I don't want to get a bone shard stuck. Funny ironic thing, I was just hyping up and recommending the place. So I ordered the goat biryani so they could taste it, their preference, and I don't think they'll be going there. The taste of the food is great even the rice from the bone biryani tastes really good.

Google
Probably the best Jalebis in the bay. Plethora of sweet and savory varieties to choose from. Great taste at very decent price point. They do have extensive appetizers and main course options (vegetarian and meat items).

Eddie B

Google
2.5 stars based food and not sweets. I ordered chicken biryanis, Somosa, butter chicken, garlic nunn? Biryanis was good, nunn okay, and samosa not good at all. Lacked flavor and stuffing was over cooked potatoes cubes. It resembled paste. The butter chicken was okay, not the best, but not the worst either. However, all was freshly made and hot However this does not justify quality. Customer service was good at that time. Granted, this place was geared up for Indian sweets it looked like. With 80% shelves for sweets. Anyway post wherever you end up , in my case, saw the first thing on my Google maps.

Madhu Sudan

Google
The best place for Indian sweets and snacks . Lunch buffet is available here at low cost with decent taste. Jalebis here are fresh and crunchy. Have tried 3 to 4 types of sweets and I’m completely satisfied with the taste. Looking forward to try some more .......,

Yelp
Family operated small restaurant with a sweets cafe. Variety on menu pleased all in my party.Veggie dishes , chicken tikkka , and Korma, naan, spinach saag paneer, and aloo gobi All very good to excellent. Personable and friendly service. We had ours to go. Alacarte, can order in advance online or phone in. Promptly received. Restaurant is on the west side of the plaza.

Jasika K.

Yelp
Horrible samosas and service. Ordered Samosas for Puja, told them repeatedly since this is parshaad to please make sure, there are no over fried samosas. All samosas had bubbles on them from frying in too hot oil, and 6-7 had burn marks. When I called to speak to them, they were not the least bit apologetic and said these are ok. Will never go back to this place.

Nhan C.

Yelp
I like their Palak paneer more than the chicken tikka masala. The food is a bit salty for my taste bud, but I think it will be perfect for people who like salty food. A lot of Indian snacks or desserts here. I would recommend dessert section.

Kat B.

Yelp
This is ok place but Jalabi is nice and crunchy, there is no oil smell. I also like Samosa. I recently get the chance to try Dal Makhani and it was watery. I would not recommend it.

Usha A.

Yelp
I often come to this place to purchase fresh made Indian sweets. The sweets are not just fresh but also made out of different sources for sweets such as you will find their most famous jalebis made of sugar and jaggery. They have Bengali sweets as well besides other food items. It is not very pricey and tasty like home made. I have had food that was catered from here for an event at a friend's place and so highly recommend this place for jalebis, paan sweets and chole bhatture. Do visit here as it's at a prime location on Mowry Fremont. It's a small place but you can dine as well. Great customer service. They do accept cash and cards.

Rudrasis C.

Yelp
I don't know why this place has terrible review but I tried the jalebi from this place. In my opinion, it's better than some places in India. I don't know if this place is a one shot wonder (only make great Jalebis), but even if that's the case I will go back. The Jalebi is amazingly crispy and juicy. The size of each jalebi is not too big and thin and of even diameter throughout.

James P.

Yelp
Taste of India serves a delightful variety of Indian sweets and other delicious dishes. Their chole bhature is the best I've had in the Bay Area. I also love their chicken dishes, especially the chicken makhani with fresh naan. The prices are quite reasonable, though the service could use some improvement

Nirav C.

Yelp
Obnoxious lady who runs this place who doesn't like to listen customer feedback. This place has gone down hill over the years. We had ordered some samosas and had told them to not over fry them. When we got them, surprise surprise, they were over fried and upon questioning them on why they couldn't follow our request this lady had the nerve to tell us that we don't need to come to her store anymore, rather than understand where the customer is coming from. Well, that we definitely won't be anymore. Here's hoping her pathetic and obnoxious attitude continues to languish her business further into oblivion.

E B.

Yelp
Food is just ok, mediocre variety and considerably overpriced. But the service (I called in an order for pick up) is absolutely awful - over the phone and in person. Rude and disrespectful.

Munib K.

Yelp
This is a really old styled India restaurant. I love their samosas and jalebi but the rest of the stuff is usually below average.

Sai G.

Yelp
Not the best food quality place, but they do have all kinds of Indian sweets and snacks. Very diverse choice of Indian sweets. Although tasting is not allowed but you can still buy a piece and on some of the items they do have the tasting. You can try the jalebi before buying in quantities. The price for the sweets is ok and the taste is not bad too. Apart from sweets, they don't have the quality in other restaurant foods, make sure before ordering

Lindsay P.

Yelp
Not great. Not horrible, but not something you really look forward to getting. Naan was off, Briyani rice wasn't basmahti....Both our chicken dishes were tough. Not great...

Dina E.

Yelp
Terrible service. In restaurant hot Food served in plastic containers. Asked for regular paper plates like they served to other party in restaurant and they came with styrofoam. Naan was uncooked.

Sid G.

Yelp
This place claims to be the oldest Indian restaurant in the Bay Area... open since 1988 .. they are famous for their gur jalebi... we were not very impressed with it. The jalebis has some taste of bad oil. I wish it was as good as people claimed as it is quite close to where I stay and love the idea of gur jalebi. There are better places for jalebi nearby, so I would probably skip it. They also have a ton of other sweets and snacks but I didn't try them.

EternalV S.

Yelp
Not the taste of India ! I am sure having store like this hard to maintain. Non of the sweets taste good. Sure they a sweet but beyond that many of them taste the same. I recommend developing a few specialities and keeping the quality of that. A real letdown for diwalli.

Kaleem K.

Yelp
Very bad attitude, pathetic service. Didn't got any answer, last time also it was same lady. I don't know what's wrong with her she is very rude. Very bad attitude. Sweet was just ok. Never going back!

Poornima S.

Yelp
I bought sweets from this place for parsad, it was smelling so bad no one even bothered to take it. As soon as I tried it, I had to spit it out. I have no idea how they even dare to sell sweets before even tasting it. The owner and the cook should taste the sweets before they sell them. This is not the first time this had happened. Every time I get something from this place I always regret it after. If I could I would give it zero star.

Vijay R.

Yelp
I used to like this place but not anymore. The quality of their food have degraded considerably. The irony is that the owners don't realize and acknowledge the same even when you complain about it. The owner lady is one of the rudest person I have seen. I got couple of savory snacks and some kala jamun to find out that both were spoilt. When I took them back to politely tell them that the food was not good and if I could get it returned or replaced , they claimed they only have fresh food and did not even bother to consider my complaint and look in to what they sold me. The kala jamun was spoilt diary and they keep selling it to poor customers. I am done with this place. I highly recommend against going to this place for anyone who wants to buy and eat food that doesn't kill you.

david b.

Yelp
The lunch special was super filling and very good. The bakery items looked amazing, I'll be back to check those out for sure.

John F.

Yelp
This was my first time visiting thos establishment. I was looking for lamb biryani and I almost walked out thinking this was a pastry shop for the diaplay cases as i opened the door. I was so glad that I decided to enter and notice that they actually sold food as well. I ordered the lamb biryani and a samosa and the biryani was so great that I found my new go to spot when I want india dishes. The samosa was also delicious and freshly made for both dishes. I can't wait until I return to try move items.

Avinash K.

Yelp
Due to most of indian restaurants are closed in the afternoon I have to order food here, we didn't like the taste of food and also it was very oily and rice was undercooked. i think the price are high for this kind of food. service is also not good. i am not going here again. Inside ambiance isn't welcoming. think before going here

Prachee R.

Yelp
Best place for jalebi and fresh samosa. Their mithai is mouthwatering. Really good place to have indian thali and choley bhaturey.

Jan Y.

Yelp
Saw this at taste of India last time visit and stopped going there, but my friend asked me to write a review so people are aware of these food places and complain to the health department.

Jay K.

Yelp
Unfriendly and non porfessional customer service owner Aunty, did not get good feeling. Acting weird. Samosa was mere basic stuff nothing to pay for!

Alpesh S.

Yelp
This restaurant is utter garbage place. The food, the sweets, and the service is an outright disaster. In my case, I went here for food which was distasteful and another time went there to purchase sweets to share with family. The family told me just last week that they threw all the sweets in the garbage because they didn't taste well and might have been rotten. Do yourself a favor, go to new India bazaar and get your self haldiram sweets. You will be better off.

Narayana K.

Yelp
Went there to dine in after a long time. Not sure what happened to this place. Extremely poor service and food quality are below average. Won't visit again.

Anand S.

Yelp
Horrible and Stale Gulab Jamun!! Had to trash the entire box right away. They definitely need to sell fresh sweets.

Janet Y.

Yelp
If you are buying sweets as a gift, you may want to go somewhere else. I bought a $13 box of sweets as a gift for friends. The man told me it was full, closed it & passed it to the cashier. The sweets were rolling around loosely. It is a very poor gift. I looked inside & it is about half full. Looks tacky & cheap. I am too embarassed to give this as a gift. I guess they must be doing so poorly they have to resort to cheating people. We were going to try their food but I think I'll pass.

Nihar M.

Yelp
Service is pathetic! I plan not to ever visit this place even though they have sweets we like. We went in today and there was a customer waiting ahead of me with no one behind the counter. I waited for couple of minutes and then called out to alert the shop keeper of our presence. At that time staff member responded from the customer side!! Four of them were literally sitting there and chatting. They had seen us as soon as we walked in and choose to ignore us even after I made an eye contact. Worst possible service!! I wonder if they don't care about the customer, then how particular would they be about food hygiene. I found that they have multiple food violations from Feb 23.

Yelp
This is a review of just the samosas. It is sold at USD 1.50 per piece. For this price I expect: 1) a fairly large samosa with a perfectly cooked crunchy coating that holds shape even after dipping into a sauce. 2) perfectly seasoned traditional samosa filling with nuts and dry fruits (since it is so expensive) and a good balance of potatoes and peas. 3) a perfect samosa doesn't really need a side, but just some chaat masala sprinkled on top. What I got for this price: 1) large samosa, with a very thin coating that fell apart the moment it was dipped into the accompanying sauces. 2) bland filling. Barely seasoned even with salt. The filling was 99 percent potatoes with 3 or 4 peas dotted in each samosa. 3) there are 2 accompanying chutney sides, that are equally distasteful. I suspect there is use of food color in the unearthly bright red tamarind sauce.

Vinod A.

Yelp
My kids are crazy of Rasmalai , boondi ladooas and samosas Good chaat , samosas, best Rasmalai, best boondi ladooas, Indian snacks They do have North Indian food. And have buffet in the morning. I have got catered samosas and jalebiee to my office party and everyone loved it

Thomas W.

Yelp
I love your food. If you want a taste of india and you're in the Fremont area, by all means, take a taste. But please make it spicy when i ask for spicy. I can take it. My actual picture is on my profile i'm in the area every Thursday, please make me sweat when i take a bite of your delicious food.

Joana N.

Yelp
I am a big fan of this shop, also a regular customer too. I even bought all sweets for my family wedding last year. I buy every two weeks almost spending $30-$40 on sweets and snacks past 18 months. This is the first time i found the snacks to be stale and it smells of oil. Both of them are not crunchy, exposed to air and it smells. I bought this on saturday May 30 - 2 lbs doodha barfi which of course is delicious and my favorite, 1 lb of jalebi with these two snack boxes. From next time I will get it from their shelf's instead of been prepackaged. It really breaks my heart to write this review other than that they are a good place to go with good customer service esp Sonia who helped immensely for my family wedding trays.

Sathish K.

Yelp
Very bad attitude at the front desk. The lady at the front desk is always grumpy. She says you don't have to come to get the food here. Shows her high headedness. Zero customer service. Avoid this place at any cost.

R B.

Yelp
Food and prices are fine. Ambience so so. Service is ok too. But cockroaches... YUCK! YUCK!! YUCK!!!

Karishma G.

Yelp
Stopped by here an hour before they opened on a Saturday. Was greeted by the owner and her mom at 10 am. They took our order of two Chole Bhature. The food was ready in about 20 mins and was honestly the best we have ever had. It was steaming hot, which made it even better. I could not stop eating. I asked the owner for seconds. The food and customer service was excellent. However, the place could have been cleaner. The garbage can was placed right next to the table and the tables were sticky or had hair on them. I had to ask for napkins to clean the tables and chairs before we sat down.

Brandon S.

Yelp
amazing indian food. very good food. mango lassi taste amazing, and a bunch of other stuff, can't wait to try it all!

Smruti A.

Yelp
Recently ordered a delivery from this place. Not quite happy with the food. We got Malai Kofta, naan, roti and dal tadka and everything was average. The Malai kofta had koftas that felt reheated from frozen. They were chewy, stale and had hardly any taste. The roti and naan were chewy. Roti especially was almost inedible by the time it was delivered. Dal was okay but could definitely have more flavor. The ONLY good thing from there was the sweet. We got some rasgullas and they fetch the restaurant their stars. The rasgullas were spongy, soft and delicious. Would probably go back only for the sweets; never for the food!

H H.

Yelp
We drove from walnut creek to try this place and let me tell you it was terrible. They have horrible customer service, the seating in middle if the store, the food was nasty as if they cooked it with their feet. Overpriced, I bought 2 little desserts for $2 each total scam. Please don't not go here waste of time and your hard earned money.

Beena T.

Yelp
except samosas- nothing is good, they keep stale food. we bought few samosas and mixture.- was very bad. old stock oil was tasting bad

Ajay D.

Yelp
This place is running just due to its old reputation and being the oldest Indian restaurant in Fremont. Customer service is terrible and the owner is rude. They claim to sell gur jalebis but they are not. Sugar is added to the gur jalebis. My wife is allergic to a lot of food items so she enquired if they use food colors. The owner snapped that there was no colors which was a lie. Later we called as my wife had an allergic reaction then she admitted that food colors are used. Bad and mean indeed. Avoid this place.

Anjana G.

Yelp
If there was an option to leave -5 stars, I would. We ordered butter paneer and the restaurant gave us chicken paneer. My family member, who was vegetarian today for religious reasons, started eating his dish. About 5 min later another family member noticed the consistency of what we were told was "paneer" and told him to stop eating. After verifying with a couple of people and bringing the concern up to the manager we we're told that we ordered chicken and not paneer. Few minutes later after arguing with the manager, she confirmed that we ordered "paneer" but was given chicken! The manager then told another employee to pick up the dish and take it to the back before we could take any pictures or evidence of the incorrect meal. Furthermore, my brother asked for regular size napkins since we were eating there and the same female manager in Hindi told the other employee "don't give him the big napkins, give him the little square ones". I am at a loss of words. I hope yelp, grub hub and any company that is partnering with this restaurant STOPS, until the lady manager from today is fired!

Sweeta B.

Yelp
Horrible customer service, the owner is a lady and she is very rude and extremely impolite women

Hark D.

Yelp
Mitai and samosa okay but never order the food. I made an order for kebabs, butter chicken, garlic naan, and none of it was good. Naan were stale. Butter chicken had maybe 5-7 pieces of chicken. And the kebabs were flavorless. All this for $85. Criminally overpriced.

Ashani C.

Yelp
Really poor customer service!! I called to see if they had Ghewar, an indian sweet that this place makes. I wanted to even place an order so i asked the person answering the phone if i could place an order and pick it up the next day, in addition, how much was it per pound. Tbe guy first places me on hold then comes vack to say they don't have it, understood. I asked if i could order it, he said they need an order a day in advanced, i said, yes i need it for the next day. How much is it, he replies yea we can't do that it is not a day in advanced. I repeated myself asking how much ot was and i needed it for the next day. He sated rhe owner is not here and I can't help you. So technically, in addition to poor phone skills, he had poor customer service and he didn't want to take the order not inform me how much the product would be if i wanted to order. I think people forget that there are many fold service providers and during Covid competition is still very strong. Either be up for it or don't be in the food industry. I am sure there are otber deserving businesses that can thrive using this opportunity.

T. T.

Yelp
All the sweets were okay. The only thing that stood out was their JALEBI. The original jalebi was yummy. The brown sugar jalebi was phenomenal.

Talya C.

Yelp
Great service and incredible selection!!! Would recommend to anyone who wants to try some Indian food in the area.

Daniel M.

Yelp
I've been looking for some new indian restaurants to try and I've tried this place via uber eats. From what the reviews I've read, i guess this place specializes in indian desserts but I didn't order those for now. Their chicken biryani is kinda under seasoned and their raita is really thin and unseasoned. The seekh kabob is a bit dry. For the price I payed, it's kinda dissapointing.

Sushil S.

Yelp
Bad customer service and no respect for seniors. I know this place since 1988 when they opened.Hope they change their behaviors. Thanks.
