"Taste Of India’s outdoor dining situation covers half of an entire city block, with a massive pergola and a dorm room’s worth of string lights. It feels more like someone’s calm backyard set-up than a restaurant in the middle of Roosevelt Way. This pergola is perfect for an impromptu group dinner on a warm night. It's a well-oiled machine here—perfectly crisp (and complimentary) potato and pea samosas arrive soon after you take your seat, and food from the massive menu comes out quickly, too. Don't miss the tandoori wings, silky butter chicken, shimla paneer, or the absolute star of Taste Of India: coconut curry with fish so tender that you could enjoy it even without teeth. photo credit: Aimee Rizzo" - Aimee Rizzo

Taste of India is a hidden gem. The interior is clean and modern. The wait staff is friendly and helpful. The prices are good and the menu is scattered with specials. The food, that is where they shine the most. I had the lunch special with Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Vindaloo, and Tandoori Chicken. I also added Samosas. Everything was wonderful and fresh. I will be back.

Add. To. List! Already planning our next visit. Taste of India in Norman is a must try. Four of us dined in and all ordered various dishes of various levels of heat. We were all very happy with the service, serving size, flavor, and price. I know from experience the Saagwala level 6 will have your partner calling you “hot lips.” My boyfriend ordered and loved it! I stuck with 2 on the spice level and was very pleased. When I doubt, start low and get more spice on the side. I recommend Taste of India to anyone passing through Norman or willing to drive for great food!

Google
Went in for the buffet but was disappointed they did not have lunch buffets anymore, but they did have lunch specials. Tried the lunch special with the options provided. Food came out hot and with an amazing aroma but it took a bit longer than I expected. All items selected were amazing. The spices and flavors were excellent. The waitress was courteous, attentive, and helpful. Inside was nice and they had one TV with sports on. Inside was clean and they had older style booths and tables for dining. The lunch special I got was very filling and tasty. Overall I enjoyed dining here.

Great food and meals under $20.00 really can't beat the price for cooked food prepared when you order.

Google
Their lamb curry was absolutely incredible. The meat is very tender and melts in your mouth like butter. High quality food for a decent price.

Google
Worst Indian food I’ve ever had in the U.S. I wish there was an option for zero stars. We ordered the dinner combo for two, and it was a complete disappointment. It felt like they just dipped raw meat into the curry without properly cooking it. The chicken smelled awful like it was taken straight from the fridge and thrown into the sauce. The chana masala was terrible, I could make a better one blindfolded. The only decent things were the rice and water. I feel like I wasted my money. As an Indian, I wouldn’t recommend this place, try better options in OKC instead.

Google
Thee best and most authentic Indian food I've had in a very long time. Awesome service! I'll definitely be back to try more off the menu!

Whitney Davis

Google
Food is great only issue is the masala chai tastes like pizza sauce? Like dead ass it’s like I opened a packet of the lunchable pizza sauce and squirted it in my mouth. Why it taste like oregano?

Niya S.

Yelp
Service and the food is great! Love the biryani and the vegetarian options. Every time I come to Norman, I make sure to eat here.

Joseph B.

Yelp
Ordered Chicken Biryani. The quality of this dish has gon WAY DOWN. This restaurant used to have the best biryani with nice chunks of well seasoned chicken This last time is was basically all rice with one or two small bites of chicken.

Trevor H.

Yelp
Called ahead of time for pick up and ordered the tandoori chicken and garlic naan. Wait time was around 30 minutes but that's why I called ahead. Chicken was very flavorful and juicy but should have ordered it spicy, garlic naan was delicious and the basmati rice was very flavorful. Very generous portion and not at all disappointed, will definitely be back!

Adilene B.

Yelp
The food is really good! Staff is a bit unwelcoming but they were probably busy! Prices are reasonable and it's a good place to go with large groups!

Michael L.

Yelp
I happened on this place when I saw their sign. It's a cozy little restaurant with very friendly service and the food is excellent. Will definitely come back.

Rick S.

Yelp
the location sucks. the food is good but there's not much of it or much variety. I wouldn't be returning to eat there again.

Cathleen S.

Yelp
Solid Indian food with some offerings you don't commonly find. Service was efficient. Prices were typical as were portion sizes. So happy to find Indian in Norman. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
I really hate to give bad reviews, especially when the food itself was actually pretty good. The lack of stars is purely based on the service we received. My friend and I wanted some authentic Indian food and noticed this place was stacked with good reviews. When we arrived, we stood for a few minutes before they sat us in the corner. We were starving and ready to order. We ordered 2 beers and 2 waters and our food. We sat there for 40 minutes before my friend got up to ask about if we could get our drinks. I know it was 40 because I timed it from when I checked in on Yelp (the moment we sat down). There was a family who sat down right after us. They had their food before we even had our drinks. We finally got our beers and after several food mix ups, we finally got our meals. My friend ordered hers at a level 7 spice, which I also had selected for my meal. When we got the food, it all looked and smelled amazing. My meal wasn't remotely spicy, but my friend's was super spicy. We ended up swapping dishes. Again, the food was actually really good. But the service was non existent and we were even abruptly rushed out at the end of dinner. I really wish I could give this place more stars. Not sure if it was just a bad day/instance. I know the importance of supporting local family-owned restaurants and I typically give 4-5 stars, but I've just never had service this poor.

Kelly M.

Yelp
The food here is just absolutely fabulous. Chicken tikka masala, chicken curry, and the biryani's are my favorites, but everything ive ever tasted is just the best. Would give 7 stars if that was a thing :)

Jonathan L.

Yelp
I ordered their daily special which is choosing 3 of 4 different meat and 4 different vegetarian dishes, with Naan and Dessert. The food is great. Service was good. Highly recommended!

Arshia G.

Yelp
Great food! Brilliant service! Fantastic Ambiance! 120% recommend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maris S.

Yelp
Taste of India has been at the same location in Norman (Alameda & 12th Ave NE) for close to 30 years. Only place that makes perfectly spiced chai from scratch. Delicious. But be patient -good things come to those who wait!" Their sag paneer is also made fresh from scratch. And their nan is rolled and cooked as your order is prepared so it comes to you hot off the grill. They did away with the buffet but introduced the Thaly plate with three servings of your choice vegetarian or mixed, includes Nan and kheer (rice pudding). Try it.

Braden L.

Yelp
Took my wife here for her first time trying this style of food. She was amazed at how great it tasted and it is pretty fantastic! Service was super fast and everyone was happy to help. The restaurant is well kept, and set up very nicely to make you feel at home! The prices are amazing for the amount of food you get, my wife and I could've easily shared one entree. Will definitely be coming here again and again!

Joanne M.

Yelp
Was asked on a scale of 1-10 how spicy I wanted my aloo. I said between 1-2. It was so spicy I had to throw it away. Like sarcastically hot. It smelled and looked fantastic! Just too spicy. So disappointed.

Jeff M.

Yelp
This was my first time trying Indian food. It was great, full of flavor, and you can choose your spice level so don't be scared of trying it. The service was good, the owners were particularly welcoming and answered all of our questions. We will definitely try again.

Charlie N.

Yelp
Excellent as always! Probably the best Indian food in Norman, and the service and value is above par for the money! Come here and enjoy some great food and an Indian beer. We will be back and are so glad they are open for sit in dining.

Ervintha D.

Yelp
I was in Norman visiting my son. We wanted to try something different. We were surprised how good their food is. They are all very tasty & flavorful. One of the best Indian food I have tasted so far!

Ross L.

Yelp
Short staffed, the waitress that worked the whole restaurant was super! Seemed to be a nicely appointed decor. I was somewhat underwhelmed by the food.

Jeff P.

Yelp
My 15 year old girls wanted to try Indian food. We ordered: vegetarian samosa, tikona, chicken vindaloo (level 5 spice), boti kabob masala (level 5 spice), and chicken tandoori. We ordered 2 garlic naans and a mango lassi. Everything was very good and the boti kabob masala seemed spicier than the chicken tandoori. I liked the tikona much more than the vegetarian samosa but I love meat and the minced lamb just made them so much better but both were good. My girls enjoyed everything and absolutely loved the mango lassi drink. Everything came to a few cents over $60 and we had leftovers. We will definitely eat here again.

Jessica G.

Yelp
Best Indian food in Oklahoma!! My husband and I eat here weekly. The food is delicious, consistent and amazing. The staff is always so great too. We love Taste Of India!

Ismael B.

Yelp
Non good food I've had the Decor was the worst and the food it did not have flavor nor seasoning

Carley V.

Yelp
The food is always great and together! I crave it every week! Best aloo naan. Great for vegetarians!

Donald B.

Yelp
The food was absolutely amazing with very good quality! They were very generous with the amount of chicken. They also made sure that it was still piping hot when I got it. Also the container they give you your food with is reusable.

Todd B.

Yelp
Our entire extended family visited this restaurant and had most everything on the menu. The service was excellent and all the food was outstanding. My sis really liked the coconut naan bred. The tandoori chicken was very good (this is what I had). The only "complaint" was from the nephews that the vindaloo wasn't very spicy... If you're in the area, please stop in and give them a try.

Stephanie C.

Yelp
We ordered a mix of vegetarian options - all were amazing! The appetizers are a tad spicy for our wimpy taste buds but even they were great. We selected low spice on the paneer and Dahl dishes and they were perfect. Full of flavor. Can't wait to go back!

Iris O.

Yelp
I didn't have a main dish. I ordered garlic naan, paneer kulcha, and kheer to go along with food I made at home. Paneer kulcha was super tasty. I usually order garlic naan but when I eat here again the paneer kulcha will be my choice. I thought it was going to be like a turnover or something but the cheese and spices are throughout the dough. I've never had kheer before but I thought I would try it. It's like if pumpkin pie was rice pudding. Delicious. I also had one of their popsicles from the freezer while I waited bc why not? It was good too. The lady there was friendly. I'll definitely come back.

Jase I.

Yelp
I've lived in Norman for about a year and finally tried this place for the first time. It was amazing, the service is really quick and pleasant, and the food is super tasty! I will be coming back often!

Nickolas S.

Yelp
Delicious food and great service! Stopped in for the lunch buffet during the week. Excellent value for the variety of food and delightful dishes. Will be back very soon! Would highly recommend.

Asha V.

Yelp
Great naan and great service! Best indian food ive come across in oklahoma. Be sure to get the lassi

Cameron G.

Yelp
Great Foood!!!! I highly recommend this place if you love Indian or are looking try some good stuff for the first time!

Yelp
Every time I enter Taste of India, I feel like I'm 'home' because the owner's are especially kind and accommodating; plus, I love supporting local, immigrant-run restaurants with a 'mom and pop's' sorta feel. Usually, we order the 'Vegetarian Dinner For Two' (which is abundant and delicious), but 2 our of 3 of the vegetarian dishes had cheese -- because I had pizza 3 nights in a row beforehand (lol...yes, this is true) I decided to forego any dishes with cheese. Instead, my partner and I opted for 2 vegetarian dishes & 1 meat dish. For an appetizer, we had the tikona (samosas stuffed with minced lamb & spices). I found the texture of the samosas to be perfection, as it was crunchy with just the right amount of chew. The filling was additionally tasty, but I would have recommended a bit of extra spice. The 2 vegetarian dishes we ordered was Mutter with Potatoes and Baingan Bharta. The first dish consisted of a creamy tomato sauce with green peas & potatoes. The second dish was a combination of fried eggplants and green peas. Both were yummy and had the right amount of spices. We chose 6/10 on the spice level and was just right for my partner and I. However, if you aren't a fan of spicy food or like so-so spicy food I recommend a 4 or below. The meat dish we ordered was chicken tikka masala. The sauce was was really quite delicious, but the meat was not as tender as I had remembered in the past. I also wasn't super impressed with the amount of chicken to sauce ratio. The bill totaled to just under $50 and the owner was gracious enough to give us extra rice with our leftovers. It's a bit pricier than an Indian buffet, but I genuinely do believe it is worth the phenomenal customer service, the atmosphere, and authentic food. Plus, it's pretty fun to jam out to some hip Indian music and watch music vids on their flat screen TV. :) Overall, I always enjoy entering Taste of India...it may have been over a year since I've last been. They've updated the interior with new seating and it looks more spacious and a bit remodeled. I am happy to see the owners doing well and would happily visit again. It's really my favorite Indian restaurant in Norman because of the love the owners put into their craft.

Yelp
I am writing this as I am still in the car on my way home from picking up my takeout order. I just have to say, the smell was so intriguing that i mentally and physically COULD NOT WAIT any longer than 5 minutes and started devouring my appetizer sampler. Literally every single thing is AMAZING. Now I am even more ready to get home to taste my actual dinner

Veronica J.

Yelp
They were open for dine in and I traveled from ND this weekend so it was definitely nice to sit down somewhere instead of eating on the go. Quick and friendly service, great food. Non stop Togo orders my whole time there! Most be a very popular place to eat!

Bella B.

Yelp
I was very pleased with the food and service. The people who own and operate this place are very kind and helpful with choosing what to order for those who maybe are not so familiar with Indian food (my bf). The $11 tip they took for me using a $25 Gift Certificate (min purchase of $45) I was not so pleased with. Because of that alone I had to knock off one star. I would have gladly given them a nice tip, but to make that mandatory when the coupon stated to tip them based on total price, not the discounted price was a bit confusing. Aside from that I honest will say this place is really very good. I love Indian food and this place has some great food and portions are huge. We did their assorted appetizer, my bf had the tandoori mixed grill and a mango lassi, I had the lamb biryani and novratana korma and some nan (my bf had the garlic and I had the pishawari). I was not in the mood for the only dessert that they had that day (there was only one other party in the entire place and one other sat down half way through our meal, so it was not packed at all, I was wondering why only one choice) which was the gulab, so I passed but he enjoyed it. The total was nearly $70 (before the coupon or tip) which was extremely expensive but if you want authentic Indian in Norman, this is the place to go. Next time I dine here I will have to forgo any coupons and tip accordingly.

Lauren Q.

Yelp
this place is amazing! We are visiting from out of town, and had to go out of our way to eat here for the second time in a week before we left! The staff (owners I believe we spoke with?) are very sweet and kind! Service is quick, and the food is YUMMY! the chicken tikka masala has tons of flavor and the spice level is perfect. They made our kids feel at home and special. definitely recommend this restaurant, and will come here every time we are in the area :)

Jesus Z.

Yelp
Really nice, local, cozy spot on Alameda St. in Norman. I can only review the lunch buffet, which is a solid weekday lunch choice in Norman and more so if you're in the South/West part of town. The buffet isn't as plentiful as Taj on 23rd St in OKC but it has all the typical favorites (Basmati rice, Vegetable Korma, Chicken Briyani type rice, a Mutton curry type option, a chicken curry type option, and quality warm naan). The place is small and somewhat quiet (I went at about 12:15 PM and most people were quietly enjoying their lunch away from work or school). They also have Gulan Jamun (the tasty Indian dessert balls) and Kheer (the warm rice pudding) for dessert in the buffet. All in all, Taste of India definitely has a spot for a quality homemade warm and authentic lunch in Norman.

Sarah B.

Yelp
We had the lamb curry and chicken tikka masala with the chef's assorted appetizer and naan. Every. Single. Item was delicious. Seriously, amazing food. Will definitely be back.

Stephanie P.

Yelp
Wonderful Indian food! The Samosas and vegetables are excellent. The family that owns the place is very friendly too. Highly recommend!

Colin G.

Yelp
This is our favorite Indian place out of the 5-6 we've tried in the OKC/Norman area. The food is spicy and always great quality. The staff area always friendly. It's a smaller restaurant, but always clean and nice inside. The buffet is fantastic and ordering off the menu is good as well: vegetable korma, channa masala, and their naan are the best things. The only downside is that their buffet is lunch-only.

Chris D.

Yelp
The best Indian food in Norman, possibly the entire Oklahoma City area. Great selection of vegetarian options and the best chai I've ever had. The lunch buffet always has four vegetarian and four meat offerings, plus naan, papadum, soup, salad, and at least two deserts. Harmesh and his wife Sonia are really friendly and welcoming. Wait service, however, isn't their strongest point. My only complaints are that the quality of the mulligatawny soup varies a lot and the décor leaves something to be desired. Minor quibbles, though. Overall, this is a great place for authentic-style Indian food. P.S. The moderate price range is for dinner. The lunch buffet can be had for under $10.

Rachel D.

Yelp
Everything we've ever ordered from here is excellent. The staff is friendly and the place is so cute. It's a local favorite for sure.

Jenna M.

Yelp
Great food, wonderful taste. Servers sweet and friendly. Large selection on buffet. Will definitely go back!

Rachel M.

Yelp
It was really good. I got the chicken tikka masala, naan and masala tea. Everything was really fresh, service was wonderful and our waitress was constantly filling up our water. The masala tea was the only eh thing there. It was supposed to be hot, but was lukewarm at best. I'll definitely be going back for their lunch buffet though.

Darryl B.

Yelp
Quality is superb and consistency is unbeatable! The owners are personable and dedicated.

Nick N.

Yelp
Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Cleanliness: 4/5 Decor & Style: 4/5 Very good food! Had the lamb curry and the taste is amazing. Rice was good, and so was the Naan bread. Lamb was not chewy (as many other places) and the spices were great. Still not my favorite Indian place in the metro however tasted great so I will be back if I am in the area.

Anand T.

Yelp
Best place i have ever been in Oklahoma to eat i still remember the taste wow you should try there

Bob W.

Yelp
I am a novice to Indian food. This place was awesome because it was very different. I can't tell you it was good or bad Indian food, because I haven't eaten enough Indian food to know the difference. I can tell you it was delicious and I want more Indian food because of it. They only serve buffet for lunch, it was all very different but very good.

Christina N.

Yelp
I love Taste of India! The vegetable biryani with naan and a mango lassi is what I usually order, but I also enjoy trying new items on the lunch buffet. They have a lot of great vegetarian options. Also, the owners are great people. They are always friendly. The delicious food and excellent service are what make this my favorite restaurant in Norman!

Aaron W.

Yelp
Oh my gosh love this place! A few of us are in. Or an for work, and actually noticed it going to a sushi restaurant across the street the previous night. Real easy to find, clean, great atmosphere, not real big only 7 booths and like 4 tables. Waitress was excellent. For the first time ever someone asked if we wanted more rice! Seems like every other Indian restaurant we go to, they bring one big bowl of rice for the table, and it's a fight to get more. Not here. Good for families, couples, etc.
