Every time I enter Taste of India, I feel like I'm 'home' because the owner's are especially kind and accommodating; plus, I love supporting local, immigrant-run restaurants with a 'mom and pop's' sorta feel. Usually, we order the 'Vegetarian Dinner For Two' (which is abundant and delicious), but 2 our of 3 of the vegetarian dishes had cheese -- because I had pizza 3 nights in a row beforehand (lol...yes, this is true) I decided to forego any dishes with cheese. Instead, my partner and I opted for 2 vegetarian dishes & 1 meat dish.
For an appetizer, we had the tikona (samosas stuffed with minced lamb & spices). I found the texture of the samosas to be perfection, as it was crunchy with just the right amount of chew. The filling was additionally tasty, but I would have recommended a bit of extra spice.
The 2 vegetarian dishes we ordered was Mutter with Potatoes and Baingan Bharta. The first dish consisted of a creamy tomato sauce with green peas & potatoes. The second dish was a combination of fried eggplants and green peas. Both were yummy and had the right amount of spices. We chose 6/10 on the spice level and was just right for my partner and I. However, if you aren't a fan of spicy food or like so-so spicy food I recommend a 4 or below.
The meat dish we ordered was chicken tikka masala. The sauce was was really quite delicious, but the meat was not as tender as I had remembered in the past. I also wasn't super impressed with the amount of chicken to sauce ratio. The bill totaled to just under $50 and the owner was gracious enough to give us extra rice with our leftovers. It's a bit pricier than an Indian buffet, but I genuinely do believe it is worth the phenomenal customer service, the atmosphere, and authentic food. Plus, it's pretty fun to jam out to some hip Indian music and watch music vids on their flat screen TV. :)
Overall, I always enjoy entering Taste of India...it may have been over a year since I've last been. They've updated the interior with new seating and it looks more spacious and a bit remodeled. I am happy to see the owners doing well and would happily visit again. It's really my favorite Indian restaurant in Norman because of the love the owners put into their craft.
