I have little experience with Indian food, but I was fortunate enough to be with friends who not only knew the food but also knew my tastes. They guided me well! We shared a big platter of vegetarian appetizers and they were all very good. I had a strawberry lassi to drink, which was like a very fresh milkshake. My main dish was chicken shahi korma, which was fantastic, and along with that I had delicious peshwar naan. I also exchanged naan with friends. Everything was good. I should also note that there were four levels of spice to choose from; I had mild, and I felt like everything still had very good flavor. I’m very glad that I had the chance to try something fun and new.

This Indian restaurant is only for non Indians. Food items are very less for the buffet and also taste is below average. They don’t restock the food till the item is finished. The water glasses they gave us were dirty and old. Will never go back. One more thing. Super expensive buffet for the number of items and taste of food.

The food was very good, and we got there early so the service was great. Would recommend.

July 14th, 2022 ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ Good place for a quick bite at lunch. I had chicken tandoori. Decent size portion, the chicken was tasty and grilled exactly as I like it. Unfortunately the salad was kinda inedible, consisted mainly of wilted lettuce and some cucumbers. The service is impeccable, the place spotless clean. Very affordable prices.

Google
Our food was fantastic, and I had a lot of vegetarian options. Their Dal was great - I almost never eat leftovers, but I liked this well enough to take mine home. Service was a little slow that day, but it was fine. Parking was easy at lunchtime.

This place is fantastic! The interior decor is stunning, the food is incredibly delicious, and the service is top-notch. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

Google
Our 1st time here. We tried the butter chicken & cheese Naan I believe. It's been a little over a month since we've been here. Beautiful restaurant;very busy on the day we went Good for them! (I think it was Super Bowl Sunday). The butter chicken wasn't quite as flavorful as we wanted, but that's ok!

Two of us dined in for dinner on a Sunday. Restaurant was quiet, as we were there quite late. They definitely have a big takeout following, as people streamed in and out to pick up in the short hour we dined. Excellent service, nice atmosphere that feels homey and space was very clean. We ordered palak pakora for appetizer and shared two entrees - Tandoori chicken and chicken Tikka masala, both as spice level Hot. One order each of plain naan and onion naan to accompany. Palak pakora was fantastic. You can tell they're flash fried at high temp so they were perfectly crispy but not oily at all. Cilantro sauce and mango chutney paired very well. My +1 grew up with his father cooking these at home and said they even exceeded his expectations! My favorite entree was the Tandoori chicken. It was impressively flavorful and you could really taste the heat level. It came with broccoli and a bit of cucumber salad, which i really appreciate so I have a healthy crunch in each bite. Tikka masala was also delicious. Lots of delicious sauce and tender juicy chicken. Since it's a dish with yogurt as an ingredient, we said we'll try "Indian hot" spice next time. Whether takeout or dine in, we'll definitely be back - recommend you check it out too!

Yelp
The food was fantastic. I'm new to Indian food and the Taste of India Special along with beef samosas were a great way to try a variety.

Leif R.

Yelp
The curry was solid. The butter chicken was not at all butter chicken. More of a chicken tikka. The garlic naan was decent. The Keema Naan was really thick and chewy, and filled with ground BEEF instead of lamb. Place is clean, and well maintained. Service was average to slightly slow. Price was 15% high given the quality. This place falls into the, "I didn't hate it," category. Which is to say, I would go here again if someone else wanted to go here specifically, but for the money there are better Indian places near by.

Bob V.

Yelp
Had a hankering for palaak paneer and found this place at 8:45 tonight (they close at 9:00). Ordered my palaak takeout and ten minutes later picked up a most satisfying dinner. The texture was dead-on, and the taste was rich and complex. I instantly liked the guy behind the counter, who expressed gratitude to the local community for helping him stay afloat through the COVID mess. He's the kind of person who's easy to support, and I hope people who read this review will do just that.

Yelp
Taste of India is a culinary gem that brings the vibrant flavors of India to life. The food is an authentic journey through Indian cuisine, with each dish showcasing a perfect balance of spices and aromas. From the aromatic biryanis to the flavorful curries, every bite is a treat for the taste buds. The service is attentive and friendly, with staff members going above and beyond to ensure a memorable dining experience. The ambiance is decorated with traditional Indian pieces. Taste of India is a must-visit for Indian food enthusiasts seeking a truly immersive gastronomic experience.

Yelp
Go here. Go now. I adored the Chicken Palak Saag and the veggie samosas but I sampled everything else my party had and it was exquisite. My only complaint is that I live in Illinois and can't come here regularly, but that's not their fault. And the people are lovely. :)

Kaitlin U.

Yelp
Went here for a work birthday lunch and basically showed up right as it opened. Easy free parking and kind servers. Our party of 3 sat at a table with 5 chairs in an empty restaurant! The service was attentive but not clingy and the food was amazing. I'd love to get takeout or visit again for lunch -- dinner would be great here too.

Jessica S.

Yelp
This was a carry out order for chicken curry, chicken tikka, chicken tikka masala, kheer, and vegetable samosas. The food was good and was ready on time.

Kedar D.

Yelp
I had high hopes that Taste of India would be my new North Indian-food-in-a-stripmall gem, but it didn't impress. Also, I'm not 100% sure about how vegan-friendly its vegetarian dishes are, so if you're vegan, ask questions (I wish I had myself). Their website doesn't allow online ordering, so I phoned in my order and had a friendly employee. The vegetable samosa ($6) was okay but heavy on the cumin, leading to a lightly bitter aftertaste. The bangan bhartha ($14) is an eggplant dish that's nearly always vegan by default in my experience, but here it tasted milky. Shame on me for making assumptions. In any case, I didn't like the flavor on this dish at all and gave up on it after a few bites. It was also swimming in oil. The channa masala ($14) is also a dish that's typically vegan by default. Here it was oily and had a faint sweetness which didn't help at all. This dish was tolerable but not great. I assume it was vegan, but I am not 100% sure. Lastly, the dal tarka ($12) had a nutty, subdued and roasted flavor which didn't pop, but didn't taste bad either. The roti ($4) was good---not too thick and nice texture. If you're looking for better North Indian food, I recommend India Palace or Dancing Ganesha in Minneapolis. India House in St. Paul and The Hyderabad Indian Grill in Columbia Heights are also good. Gorkha Palace in Minneapolis is also stellar, though it's Nepalese, which is similar to North Indian food, but not the same.

Raj D.

Yelp
This restaurant is so dependent on who the chef is the specific date. I've had wild variations on the same dishes on different dates. Today Dad and I met a friend for lunch. We had somosas, veggie cutlets, fish pokoras for appetizers. We had Tandoori Paneer, Garlic Naan and Lamb Rogan Josh for main courses. The Paneer was quite good. Garlic Naan as well. But the Lamb Rogan Josh had a couple of flaws. The sauce wasn't mixed well. They put in way too much yogurt and lime juice. It ruined the taste.

Tracy S.

Yelp
Taste of India in St. Louis Pk had been my fav Indian restaurant for over 20 years. What happened? The food was luke warm, the servers were super crabby about adding shrimp to my saag meal, and we had to ask twice for our tab. I understand the pandemic impacted many restaurants, but this experience was such a disappointment. I'm hoping they read this and do better in the future.

Richard W.

Yelp
We were very disappointed with our lunch at this restaurant. We ordered the mixed veggie platter, chicken tikka masala, a keema naan with basmati rice and 2 waters. The mixed veggie platter had zero variation in flavors, everything tasted of mashed potato mixed with cumin, with the wrappers on the samosas being soggy as if they were warmed in the microwave from the previous day. The chicken tikka masala was runny, not thick like it should be, and the chicken pieces reminded me of canned chicken. The keema naan was likewise to the samosas, stale and re-heated, with little to no meat stuffing, and the basmati rice was dry, not light and fluffy as it should be. All in all this was perhaps our most disappointing experience in an Indian restaurant for the last 40 years.

Olivia P.

Yelp
Good service mild had a spice and the food was steaming hot. Amazing naan good traditional atmosphere

Julia S.

Yelp
Yummy again! We've been enjoying takeout from here for awhile now, but this evening, we dined in. What a pleasant atmosphere! I liked the decor, service, and unobtrusive music. Again, it was a lovely meal, and I have leftovers (nothing like déjà food). The food was prepared well and with with obvious care, the spice well-balanced with other flavors, and the rice a lovely texture. Excellent condiments, too! Tip: Bring a friend! Wines are by the bottle.

Jordana M.

Yelp
This place is a bit of a hidden gem located in a strip mall near west end. I would have never known if it's existence if it weren't for a couple of people raving about it. We ordered the chicken tikka masala which was 10/10 and the chili chicken which is not on their menu but I saw it on Yelp and they were able to make it for us - very nice of them! The chili chicken had great flavor but the quality of the chicken was not as good as the chicken tikka masala. Don't let the yogurt in the mango lassi scare you it's delicious! The inside was very cold. There was a draft coming in from the ground where we were sitting. They do have suggestion cards included with the bill.

Yelp
Looking for some good food after work in an area of Minneapolis I've never been. Found this place and tried it, not too bad. It was fairly early (around 5pm) so it was not busy at all, picked up by the time I'd left. Note - it's in an "business park" behind the Double tree hotel, you have to go through the parking lot of the hotel to find this place. Be wared it can be difficult to get there. The veg samosa's were pretty good, not sure if house made or not but pretty good. I had the mixed grill which was way too much food for 1 person, the tandoori chicken and lamb were done perfectly and very tender and moist and flavorful. The chicken curry that came with the dish was quite mild (ordered medium) but that is not uncommon in American Indian restaurants in my experience. Service was good, attentive and friendly.

Kaylee S.

Yelp
Went for my first time yesterday, ordered the shrimp curry with naan bread. Will be going back it's absolutely amazing

Mindy W.

Yelp
Great food and service! The staff was super nice and more than willing to accommodate people's spice levels.

Chris D.

Yelp
This place is awesome! The food is fantastic and the service is great too. Highly recommended- you won't be disappointed.

Jen R.

Yelp
Consistent and fast take-out (and delivery through DoorDash). Love this place. The navrattan korma is my favorite.

Stephanie H.

Yelp
So delicious and authentic! Great price for how much food you get too. Tried the chilli chicken this time (dish in the middle) it's not on the menu you have to ask for it and it's so worth it so much flavor!

Nora W.

Yelp
I have been going to Taste of Indian since the the late 1990's and my daughter has been going since she was 1, she is 19 now! It's our absolute favorite! Love Chicken Tika Masala and Chicken vindaloo plus vegetable samosa and garlic naan! They are the best! I have also been to the Maplewood location and loved that too!

Ronald G.

Yelp
when trying a new Indian restaurant, the chicken tikka masala is the yardstick for me. Taste of India did not disappoint. I asked for it be made "Indian hot, not American". it was hot enough, but my nose isn't running, but close enough. the taste was just right. about an 8.5 out of 10. decent amount of chicken onion, green peppers, though it can't ever be enough chicken unless I make it myself. $15.99 per entree. not bad, considering you can spend that at Mcdonalds in a blink. ps, you don't have to drive thru Double Tree parking lot. if you go around to the TGIF restaurant, make a right, and you'll find it at the end of Wayzata.

Katie W.

Yelp
I have never dined in but we do take out from Taste of India regularly. The food is always amazing- best Indian food in the west metro (and we've tried a lot of Indian restaurants). We have tried a variety of dishes and flavors are great, portions are good sized and everything is always ready on time. Recommend!

Shannon V.

Yelp
We came for the lunch buffet only as a result of Blue Fox being closed. From past experience we know not to come here but it was the closest alternative as we were really craving Indian. I was really looking forward to the buffet as they had many options snacks, curries, sweets, biryani, idli. However i was greatly disappointed with absolutely every dish. First i tried the Palak Paneer and as this is my favorite dish normally I have tried many versions and this was the absolute worst. My husband tried and he felt the spinach had spoiled so he informed the waiter to let them know to remove the dish. The waiter then informed the owner who came, stood and hesitated next to our table then kept walking as if he does not want to address the issue. So then i continued eating my other options with disappointment at each bite. Most options had no flavor at all. The ones that did just tasted like too much salt. The worst item was definitely the kheer. The most graphic way of descirbing the taste was as if i ate some one elses regurgitated kheer. There was no sweetness. I normally dont make it obvious when i do not like something but i literally gagged. Stay far far away.

Valerie G.

Yelp
Hands down the BEST Indian food, and not just in twin cities. Always consistent, too. I go often and am always back again after trying other places, because taste of India just has the best food. Chicken makhani, baignan barta, Alo bagnan can't be beat.

Nancy Q.

Yelp
Tasty and convenient location to pick up Indian takeout! Super easy to call and order. I always get the Palak Paneer and either a Chicken Korma or Chicken Tikka Masala. They also pack a generous container of rice, which I'm always impress how they are able to compact it so much. Decent naan breads as well. I'd recommend going for their lunch buffet to try out a variety of dishes to see what you enjoy in more normalized conditions. However I've noticed the quality of entrees in takeout or dine in are superior to what is served at buffets which is why I usually opt for takeout now.

Meghan G.

Yelp
I only ordered one dish because typically Indian food is family style and the portions were so skimpy. Best of India up the street is so much better. More bang for your buck and way more protein given with your meal. This place is has ridiculous prices for Indian food.

Jon B.

Yelp
They got a lot of nerve charging $6 for a tiny little Dahl soup. I feel robbed. And this was lunch time prices. I'm sure it's a decent place. They've got a wall full of awards but this really turned me off as a first time customer. I mean it's just lentil soup. $6 at lunch time for a handful of lentil soup is just ridiculous.

Jirapat S.

Yelp
Got non-veg dinner specials for two ($40) the first time, which was awesome and encouraged me to try their a la carte the next time: Got goat briyani ($16) and paneer tikka masala ($13) for lunch the second time. Both were flavorful, but quantity of protein was embarrassing. The "goat" part of the briyani is mostly bones and cartilage. I understand cooking with bones adds tremendous flavor, but I expected more than a few small cubes of meat in a dish. Goat-flavored briyani would have been a more accurate description. Not much to say about the paneer tikka masala. Delicious, but just as expensive as some other meat dishes. TLDR: Liked the dinner specials. A la carte items were disappointing and overpriced.

Bob A.

Yelp
Popped in based on a faint memory of appreciating their lunch buffet a couple decades ago. Glad to see it's still solid. They have a lot of standards and a few unique dishes available at their buffet, and a lot of it tasted familiar and average. But there is something about the Beef Vindaloo that drew me back for a second helping. It has an unusual flavor for vindaloo, and it isn't the least bit spicy. But it was well cooked and I dug it. I also liked the Chicken Tikka that simmered away on a hot plate separate from everything else. I almost didn't spot the rice, but it's there. Not cooked that well, but I'll survive. This is a perfectly good Indian buffet which you should consider if that scenario strikes your fancy.

Sue N.

Yelp
My friend treated me for my birthday. I requested Indian since I've never tried it. Everything was so full of flavor. We had the vegetable samosa, palak pakora, chicken jalfrazy, and shrimp coconut curry. I will def be back.

Amber G.

Yelp
Delicious food and excellent service! Nice inviting atmosphere and very reasonable prices. I Highly recommend!

Ellen C.

Yelp
Taste of India underwent some changes roughly 3 months ago. I'm not sure whether they sold the restaurant to someone else or what, but it's changed. From what I could tell they: updated their buffet line so that it was more streamlined, created fancy posters for the outside of the restaurant, and added "free wifi" capabilities for customers. All of this came at a $1-2 cost increase to customers, bringing the tab to a little shy of $12pp before tip for a weekday lunch buffet, which I consider pretty expensive for an Indian buffet. Sadly with the price upcharge you'd imagine the quality of food or spread would be better, but the variety and quality of the food has also suffered. The food, although still flavorful, isn't as good as it used to be and some of the food is lukewarm rather than hot. The chicken tandoori was very dry, like it had been kept warm too long. The naan tasted drier and blander than it used to be, and overall there were fewer options to choose from. I'm hoping they still offer more variety on the weekends. And if you're looking for wifi while you eat, they have a strange policy of having you register with xfinity in order to access to a complimentary 30 minute session... which I thought was a bit preposterous. They were nice enough to sign into their wifi this time but wouldn't share the password, so it's not something they intend on providing for free. I have to say, after the increase in prices, this was a disappointing experience.

Ana B.

Yelp
This is our favorite Indian restaurant. The Tandoori chicken is so moist and flavorful! We also love their Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Rogan Josh. The meats are always plentiful and moist and the flavor is great. The star of the show is their naan. We like the Paneer naan that arrives at the table hot and crisp from the tandoori oven.

Tereza K.

Yelp
The first thing that stood out was a vibrant, fluffy, citrusy cilantro chutney I had with a vegetable samosa (10/10). An order of samosas is 2 fist-sized, Crispy yet not crunchy, savory delights. The service was accommodating, genuine, knowledgeable, charming, and helpful. My food-stop was shaped into a beautiful experience. Sauces, water, and rice remained filled at no extra charge, and food came out at the appropriate times. For my entree I had goat curry -- spice level: Hot, one step below India hot. A generous portion! Pairing well with my mango lassi. Incredible to eat on naan or rice. Rich, mouth watering spices intertwined. Cumin, cardamom, coriander forward. A balanced mix. The perfect winter treat.

Sarah K.

Yelp
That chicken curry was really tasty. The bread was also tasty. Dal makhani had too much cream. Overall, I liked the food. Would order again.

Menka K.

Yelp
Been going to this place over 3 years food isn't bad service is ok but went there Sunday afternoon with my infant and toddler asked for a booth and some old lady guided us all the way in the back which has not a lot of space for high chair and car seat and asked her if we could sit at different booth she said NO because kids throw rice on the floor that's why I put kids all the way in the back Seriously lady that's not how your treat your customers.

Syrena L.

Yelp
Taste of India is amazing!!! Go for the buffet :) the Sunday buffet is the best. They have dessert and huge samosas!

Kate H.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places to have Indian food. They have a really good lunch buffet, but I'm always happy with my order. Last time I was here, I ordered Palak Paneer and it was so yummy. I always regret not ordering it spicier. The decor is lovely and the staff is even lovelier. Can't wait to come back!

Jason C.

Yelp
Pretty good. Samosas were a bit dry - they actually tasted better the next day after reheating in the toaster oven. I'd go back!

Nancy H.

Yelp
Large amount of variety at the buffet. I especially liked that they had SAMOSAS which I feel I never see at buffets. Naan was nice and fluffy. They even had puffy rice bread (this is not the official name of course) which I liked. A number of different curries to try - I couldn't get to them all. We were sitting at a large table and the whole room felt way too warm (and not because I was eating spicy curry). It felt stifling at times. Overall a good experience but 1 hr after leaving I knew how salty the food really was as I was hit with crazy extreme thirst!

Elizabeth G.

Yelp
I wish I had the option to give 4.5 stars, because the flavor and quality seems to depend on who is cooking. When the right person is cooking, it is out of this world great! When the wrong person is in the kitchen, it is just okay (a little over or under-seasoned, thin sauces, etc). Most of the time, the food is exceptional. We used to enjoy their buffet, but since the start of COVID we have only done take-out. It is our 5 year-old's favorite restaurant, so we order from them pretty regularly.

Kelsey P.

Yelp
The furniture was very outdated, but I can't even let that take a star with our food. Not being very familiar with Indian food, we didn't know what to expect, but were pleasantly surprised. The tikka was surprisingly citrus-y, and despite not having any kind of sauce, was so fracking moist. I can't even. The makhani was the clear winner in my book though. I ordered it by recommendation of our server, at a "Minnesota Spicy" level (medium, by his standards). The meal wasn't very spicy (hot), but I didn't even miss the heat because it was so spicy (full of spice). *drools heavily* The pot it came in looked small, and I was worried I might actually have room for dessert. However, the little pot of meat felt pretty bottomless as we were eating. Obvious sorcery. In regards to the naan. Order it. I especially recommend the garlic variety. It's a large serving for a fair price (less than $4!). Last note, all bottles of wine were under $30. Woo hoo!

Ram D.

Yelp
Where is zero. This is not taste of india. It is tasteless india. This is not for indians at all bit taste wise and service wise. After Having burnt paneer tikka masala was almost told to get out as my kid was just started talking. They seem to like pin drop silence. Terrible place

Rhonda G.

Yelp
I got here at 2 and they close at 2:30 for a siesta for a couple of hours. I was seated at a large booth in the sun and it was the perfect light for reading. It overlooks a hotel. I was between meals and needed a place to hang out before a seminar. I had a veggie samosa. There were 2 and so huge I could only eat 1. Flavorful and crispy. So crispy that 2 days later I heated it up in the microwave and it still had crunch. They serve it with 2 sauces. I don't know what the staple green one is, but I could eat it our of the bowl, and I drowned the samosa in it. I was a little surprised that an Indian place didn't brew their own iced tea. It was from the coke machine, but I still liked it, and it was in a good sized glass. They didn't rush me and I will stop in for a full meal or buffet next time.

Joshua N.

Yelp
Not bad. Lunch buffet is small but with some interesting items you won't find at most similar restaurants in the twin cities. Fare appears to be northern Indian, while most similar places features food that is more south. I feel like cooking cuts some corners and is not fully authentic. Fairly good overall but better options are available elsewhere.

Rajkumar B.

Yelp
Have been visiting this place on and off, every time with my friend who is a regular here so always get the extra care. Though an Indian restaurant, waiters here have good American accent rather than the other ones. Ambiance is good with yellow tone, value for money would be 3.5 for 5. Also the nan they provide are really good especially the onion and chili nan if you are at spicy end. One other thing with this restaurant is you can request to customize your gravy as per your need, we usually ask them to customize Panner Matar masala to be more gravyful and it is made to our liking. Overall a good place to check if you wanna taste Americanized version of Indian dishes...they can Indianize it as well on request. Happy eating.

Avani S.

Yelp
We visited this place for lunch buffet on Saturday. This review is vegetarian oriented. Ambiance - Good interior. Amazing mouth watering smell of food. Service- We were halfway through our lunch and they kept the bill on our table which for me is bit rude because that means leave now. Food- Now comes the main part, 3-4 staters which are good in taste. However, Idli sambar was really bad as idli was bitter in taste. Two veg curry was there which below average in taste. The overall main course was below average. 4-5 Desserts which were really good. My favorite was mango custard. Cost - It's around $35 for two. Will not like to go again but it's fine for a one-time experience.

Yelp
Oh Taste of India, you sure do taste good! I've frequent plenty of Indian restaurants in day and this one takes the cake. Indian cuisine is one of my favorites and this place makes it even better. Thumbs up: -Vegan and vegetarian friendly-yes! -Decent $$ -Great C.S. always, attentive, friendly, and helpful. -Clean -Variety of dishes and drinks. Must try the kofta veggie balls, paneer app., biryani (sp.) rice, mango lassi, lamb dishes, naan, and so much more! -Central location, with ample parking Thumbs down: -Let me get back to you on that.
