"Taste Of India’s outdoor dining situation covers half of an entire city block, with a massive pergola and a dorm room’s worth of string lights. It feels more like someone’s calm backyard set-up than a restaurant in the middle of Roosevelt Way. This pergola is perfect for an impromptu group dinner on a warm night. It's a well-oiled machine here—perfectly crisp (and complimentary) potato and pea samosas arrive soon after you take your seat, and food from the massive menu comes out quickly, too. Don't miss the tandoori wings, silky butter chicken, shimla paneer, or the absolute star of Taste Of India: coconut curry with fish so tender that you could enjoy it even without teeth. photo credit: Aimee Rizzo" - Aimee Rizzo

The food was so delicious and the service was so nice and the food didn’t take long to come out!! And the prices were very reasonable!! I will definitely be coming back here again and I recommend this restaurant to everyone who loves Indian food!!

This is hands down the weirdest 73. Vegetable Korma I have ever had and I love it. It has the widest range of vegetables in a korma I have ever seen, and I think there's cherries in here too? I have no idea, but it's very, very good. The 87. Garlic Naan is also huge. The 111. Masala Chai Tea is also very delicious. It's warm, cozy, and everything a chai should be. Everything is a decent portion size and packaged well.

For anyone who is not from India, this is definitely not the "Taste" of India..! I just can't understand how this place has 4+ Ratings. Have ordered delivery a few times from here and the food has always been at varying levels of disappointment. Chicken and Kebab from the Assorted Sampler was dry and had no flavor whatsoever. Thankfully the Vegetarian options tasted better. Biryani was nothing more than rice mixed with masala with no flavor of Chicken (precooked meat??) Vegetarian curries are usually pretty good but the ones with meat are touch and go. Will no longer order from here - tired of being disappointed everytime

Google
I will put it in the simplest way. Been living in the New England region for 5 years now and this is the best Indian food I've ever had. I randomly stumbled upon it (with my parents visiting first time) and we got truly lucky. Especially if you got Delhi taste buds. Cannot wait to return. The breads! The curries! Unmatched North Indian taste! It's probably a hidden gem in NJ. Thanks Happy for your services and outstanding food. <3

Google
Wonderful experience here. It's very authentic and seems to be family-run. The woman who served us was incredibly nice and the food was delicious. The ambiance was not high-end, but everything was clean and fine. Prices were just slightly higher than average - dinner for 2 with no drinks was about $45. We sincerely appreciated that they packed us extra rice in our to-go bag, what a nice touch. I had the paneer makhani and I enjoyed it very much. They were generous portions and the chutney and tamarind sauce that came with the papadam were very flavorful. The naan was hot and buttery and garlicky, just as I like it! Lots of vegetarian options. I would return.

Google
Pros 1. Both chicken lollipop and chicken curry tasted great 2. Not expensive at all Cons 1. Run by two nice folks who were also cooks. This meant that it was hard for them to balance both service and cooking efficiently 2. Indoor needs an update, pronto. If you want no frills, cheap but good food (esp delivery) would recommend, but if you want to eat in keep expectations in check. Fine dining this is not

This food was exquisite and delight. My plate has quenched my taste and my grungy has been satisfied. The service was excellent and I loved the atmosphere of the people around and alike 5 stars 10/10 recommend

Yelp
I love the food from this restaurant. The food is fresh and delicious. The staff members are very friendly. I go there often and I feel like I'm going to visit with my family.

Rolando G.

Yelp
Service was a bit awkward, not sure why. Food was expensive, Chicken Tikka Masala was tasty, and good portion size, but expensive at $20 and there was no lunch specials. Naan is extra at $4-5 a piece too. Not coming back.

Yelp
The dishes were missing sauces, and the naan bread taste old and stale. This was the first time I ordered from them. Very Dissappointed

Erin S.

Yelp
Truly I cannot recommend this place enough. The food is absolutely delicious. Some of the most flavorful food I have ever had. We got-- appetizer sampler with all vegetarian options. Everything on the plate was delicious. Delicious dipping sauce Also garlic naan. Came out hot and perfectly fluffy/crispy on the bottom. Chicken tikka massala-- some of the best tikka Masala I've ever tested. Ever. Chana Masala-- also incredibly flavorful, chickpeas texture was perfect Service was attentive and fast. Will absolutely be back here!! Thanks to the staff!

Yelp
We ordered food from Taste of India using GrubHub. We ordered vegetable samosas, a mango Lassi, garlic Naan, goat biryani, chicken tikka masala, and palak paneer (Spinach with small cubes of cheese). The food was actually pretty tasty, unfortunately the tikka masala and palak paneer were way too spicy. It wasn't their fault, so we reordered those two dishes, specifically writing "not spicy, please." We got another delivery of food, it was just as spicy. We called the restaurant to complain and after some arguing they agreed to remake the tikka masala and palak paneer. We went to pick up the food and brought it back home. Still just as spicy. We understand if there is food that cannot be made "unspicy" (like if it is made beforehand at a certain spice level), but if that were the case they should have told us up front. Never eating or ordering from there again.

Yelp
Solid spot for Indian food but not my favorite. My brother and I went for the lunch buffet on Saturday afternoon. The restaurant was empty so we were seated immediately. Our waitress asked if we would like some naan and I answered "Yes!" before she could even finish her question. The naan was good, no complaints. The buffet had about 10 dishes and I really enjoyed 3 of them. The rest were pretty average for an Indian lunch buffet. The "Chicken 65" was accurately describes by my brother as "Indian General Tso's". I don't know how to break it down any better than that. It was chicken with a tiny smidgeon of heat and some sweet. It was also nicely seasoned. The chicken wasn't dry and was pretty flavorful throughout. Most certainly a new dish for me. The tandoori chicken was very good as well. It is a staple at Indian buffets such as this one, but often times it will be cooked to the point where it becomes super dry. That wasn't the case here. The meat was juicy and tender throughout and it was seasoned well. The Palak Paneer was my favorite dish. The paneer had the right amount of firmness and I really liked the texture of it. It also took on the flavors of the spinach puree. Sometimes the paneer comes out very bland and the spinach mixture too watery. However I thought this dish was very well done. All in all I give Taste of India 3 stars. If the price were a little cheaper I'd probably bump it up to 4. That being said, I'd come back, it just would not be my first choice.

Yelp
I was craving Indian food all week, so I dragged my brother, Ben C., to lunch at Taste of India. It's a little restaurant hidden away on the slightly less busy side of Cedar Lane. We were on a Saturday afternoon, and the restaurant was completely empty. It's clean, and the decor screams "THIS IS AN INDIAN RESTAURANT!". As usual, they were serving a buffet for lunch, which we took full advantage of. We immediately received some hot naan, and we served ourselves on the buffet. I got to try their chicken tikka masala, fish tikka masala, tandoori chicken, palak paneer, chana masala, vegetable pakoras, and chicken 65. By appearance alone, many of the foods appeared to be slightly off. The tikka masalas were both a dull brown, as opposed to the vibrant orange i was expecting. They were not particularly creamy, tangy, or spicy. At least the fish and chicken were not overcooked. The paneer in the palak paneer had great texture, and it was one of the ones I liked best. The tandoori chicken and chicken 65 were good as well. The other dishes were average. It wasn't bad, but there are better options.

Dominique C.

Yelp
What a find! Great little hole in the wall. We ordered palak paneer, chicken makhani, and chicken tikka kebab. The portions were more than fair and decently priced. The food was spiced without being overwhelming hot. I can't wait to try more entree from here. As of right now, they are take out only.

Gabe G.

Yelp
There chicken tikka masala is to die for as is there Naan! Best place to get Indian food in bERGEN county

Richard Y.

Yelp
Love this place but they are closed. Lights off. Paper on windows. I hope they are just renovating. Food is good for take out. When eating in the place is very cold. There's not much heat in the winter months.

Louise S.

Yelp
Popped in for lunch at the weekend with my husband and kid. Interior is kind of shabby. Service was very offhand and we didn't get refills on our waters We ordered Lamb Seekh Kebab, Chicken Tikka, Chicken Mahkani and plain naan. The tandoori meats were expertly cooked and very generous portions but came out with red sauce on them, when we asked what it was our server told us it as ketchup mixed with garlic as without it the meat would be bland. I've never been to an Indian restaurant before who was so concerned about how bland the food was they tried to pep it up with ketchup. The flavour of the meat was OK, nothing mind blowing but certainly not bland enough that it should require toddler condiments to make it bearable. The chicken Makhani on the other hand was bland. It had a very sour thin taste that just didn't really work for me. The Naan was perfect, buttery and soft with great crispy edges.

Oded S.

Yelp
If you are looking for a local place, nothing fancy- you got it. The food was very good. Very friendly people. This place is a must!!! There are fancy places around but I prefer good food You can bring your own wine!

Andrew R.

Yelp
This place seriously rocks. All the sauces were over the top flavorful and cooked perfectly. The lamb vindaloo is so tender you can easily cut it with your fork. Highly recommend the bread basket, which is a mix of different naan and roti breads, it seemed. We didn't order particularly spicy dishes, with the exception of the vindaloo, which had a kick but not an afterburner. I like things a bit spicier but my family doesn't so it was perfect (I'm sure you can request more spice if you'd like). The service was prompt, helpful and friendly. The place looked clean and was cozy enough. Listen, I'm a food snob and I love Indian food. Ignore the ridiculous low ratings here. This place is easily a 4 but I gave it 5 to compensate for those unfair reviews... and I have no reservations about giving it a 5.

James C.

Yelp
Spot on buffet place for indian grub. The owner is super friendly and attentive. They had all the basics, tikki masala, tandori chicken, veggie pakora, saag paneer, a lentil dish, a chickpea dish, an eggplant dish, another chicken dish and lamb vinadaloo. You also get complimentary nan bread which most indian places do. The only knock was the lamb was super tough but the flavors were still good. The chicken was cooked right and not dry like a lot of lazy buffet spots tend to do. So 10 of 11 dishes did the job, the place is cozy and the owner is a gem. Taste of India, you got that right. In!

Sellina Y.

Yelp
My husband and I are repeat customers... We normally order in on days when I am off from cooking :)... Deliveries are always prompt- 45ish min and they are about 5 min away from us. Food arrives HOT... sometimes the sauce in the entree is still piping hot so you know the food is at its freshest. That is because they do an excellent job packing the food. Each of our entrees/ mango lassi containers are well wrapped individually with foil to insulate the temp. They use a heavy duty paper bag and plastic bag for delivery to avoid food shifting too much during transit. Our most ordered and highly recommended dishes: 1. vegetable samosas- 2 large pieces 2. lamb samosas- 2 large pieces or 3 smaller ones (quantity varies depending on sz) 3. garlic naan bread- 2 pieces, very soft, fluffy, and slightly crispy on the top. 4. fish adraki- rice is in a separate container, and then the sauce w/ fish is in another. i order MILD spice... just the right amount for me. 5. lamb biryani- ingredients are all tossed in like fried rice- not saucy at all. 6. mango lassi- the creamiest/ smoothest i've had and i make sure i finish the last drop of it... yes it's that delicious

Dave O.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday night with my family including a 2 year old. The owners are very accommodating and immediately brought out the thin bread chips with green and red dip so the baby could have something to snack on. I ordered lamb samosas for my appetizer and they brought out 2 huge samosas and they where delicious. Kinda like Indian empanadas. We ordered garlic naan bread and it was the best naan I've ever had, I didn't know they made garlic versions. For my entrée I got lamb skewers and they where amazing. A lot of flavor and not too much spice. I'm usually apprehensive when going to an Indian restaurant because I fear ordering something too spicy or doesn't taste good. Everything I tasted here tasted great and I would return any time.

Andy C.

Yelp
The paneer Kali Mirch was outstanding. The black pepper sounded appeing and was a nice bold flavor. Got it just over medium spice and was incredible. Everyone else was extremely happy with all dishes ordered.

James F.

Yelp
Love Food... Love Good Food... Love Good Indian Food. I've been wanting to come to Taste of India for a while now, but never made my way over here. So I pose this question to the world: Why have I not been here sooner? The food was excellent. The establishment was clean. The owner and server were simply delightful. And the prices were reasonable. My spouse and I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Ginger Kabab, Palak Paneer, and Naan. Each dish was better than the other and cooked with the perfect blend of spices and savoriness. I highly recommend this place.... and don't forget to finish your meal with Masala Tea (just give yourself 10 minutes). Yum!!!!

Marissa K.

Yelp
I ordered delivery, and every was wrapped perfectly to keep freshness. Samosas were perfectly flakey on the outside and so yummy on the inside. The shrimp with rice was so flavorful. Garlic naan is the best. I got a vegetable dish with cauliflower and pees- I could have eaten this all nice. I got mild and it was spicy enough. The green dipping sauce was so good with the samosas. Delivery came much quicker than Yelp predicted. The delivery guy was very nice and said that they have a buffet for lunch during the week. They are closed on Mondays though. I've never been to the actual restaurant, but I am absolutely planning to go now. I've been to two Indian restaurants in hackensack, this place is def better. I would say it is average prices for what we got. As an update- I came here for a dine in experience. Everything was excellent! Service was great. Everyone is very kind. The food was so so good. This is my new fav restaurant.

Michelle M.

Yelp
Tasty homemade good food. Everything on the menu you can trust. Clean restaurant. Homemade cha. Customer service is excellent. Will be back!

Kasia C.

Yelp
Came here to grab a quick lunch with my husband and his coworkers. They had a lunch buffet so we all decided on that - it was really good. They had a good variety of foods which for a mere $10 is an awesome deal. Place was very clean & I'm definitely coming back here another time!!

Nancy D.

Yelp
I absolutely LoVe this place! The food and service is always top-notch. Exceptional quality Indian food with so much variety in their menu. I normally get take out but have dined in once. Added bonus is it's BYOB! Don't forget the dessert

Dennis L.

Yelp
Really great Indian food! I always ask the nice lady on the phone, presumably the owner, to kick my ass with spice when I order the Vindaloo. She's never failed to hurt me yet. Thank you!

Tameem M.

Yelp
It looks like they just threw some stuff they had in the back with some leftovers and a chunk of yogurt on top. This is after I specifically messaged them on my Yelp order, please put the sauces on the side. When I called to tell the store about it, the lady on the phone instead of apologizing for mistaking. Kept insisting I should call them next time and tell them not to put sauce on it. Really bad food and bad customer service. I tried tasting it but it really was really really bad. Definitely will not go back ever again

Kelly J.

Yelp
Vegan options = a win! Lots of delicious flavors and more than enough portion sizes. Got our order delivered to our home so not sure about the restaurant. Each item was packaged so that the food stayed warm - you don't see that too often. I am vegan so I got (1) Veggie Samosas (amazing!), (2) Onion Culcha (very tasty), (3) Dal Maharani, medium spice (delish!), & (4) Tawa Tofu. I enjoyed everything! My fiancee got the Garlic Chili Shrimp and the Chicken Tikka Masala. He really never eats Indian food so he didn't like the thick consistency of the chicken's sauce. But he loved the shrimp. The sauce was very tasty! Oh, and the food came with a giant container of basmati rice. I would love to eat at the restaurant next time.

Jenny K. L.

Yelp
I am thrilled that I came to this byob Indian place that also delivers to me in Englewood by chance. Blue lotus in fort lee was closed due to technical issues and I had already gone to Kinara in Edgewater the night before (been craving Indian this week). Each of the dishes had plentiful shrimp and chicken. The flavor was also good, though their medium shrimp vindaloo didn't taste spicy at all. The chicken sag and chicken tikka masala were both great. There nan assortment basket and the rice weren't as flavorful as kinara and blue lotus. Good service. The owner came around multiple times to check in - he clearly wanted to make sure we were enjoying our meal, which we were! Will be back and for delivery again for sure!

Brian R.

Yelp
This restaurant has great tasting food and friendly service. Highly recommend the garlic shrimp and Gobi ala matar!

Pau S.

Yelp
Doesn't look that great but the food is fresh and tasty. Ordered chicken biriani and lamb saag to go and was still tasty even after a long drive. The portions are also sizable and the leftovers were still fresh and tasty. Definitely worth the drive!

Kayla R.

Yelp
I'm updating my review from a year ago. This is my favorite Indian restaurant in Bergen co Food is still as good as when I first tried it. The lunch buffet is always fresh and tasty. Not a place for a date since it lacks ambience But if craving good Indian food and your on a budget go here you won't be disappointed

aaron f.

Yelp
Very disappointed with their recent delivery. Burnt out naans - all 7 of them, stale biryani. Difference between 1 star and why I gave them a 3 is because they made an excellent chicken makhani and in general they do a better job. Need to be consistent.

FoodieForever T.

Yelp
This place wassss AWESOME!! Went w/my son last Friday and we got the Lunch buffet, for 9.99. You'll find rice, tika chicken, curry chicken, goat, sautéed veggies, salad, and 2 desserts (rice pudding and these awesome pastry balls in a sweet syrup). All wonderful and fresh. More importantly, was the warm and inviting service we received. WE will definitely go back again to try more things on their menu.

johnny w.

Yelp
I was Amazed at the Taste of the Delicious food and Fresh Bread Served at this Indian Restaurant on Cedar Lane in Teaneck. Having been to Several Indian Restaurants I found the Flavor and Service at this place was well above all the others in the Area. The Price was under $14 for the Buffett and its available Friday Thru Sunday! Come Hungry and Leave with a Smile and a Big Stomach!

Leela K.

Yelp
This little gem of a restaurant is tucked away next to a laundromat and bar. It may be small, but it's got big flavor! The complimentary lentil cracker type bread with dipping sauces started off the meal with a surprising bang - who knew crackers could pack so much spice and flavor (the word of the night ;) The lamb samosas were fried pockets of deliciousness. The tandoori shrimp was fresh and cooked just right. Garlic naan had just the right amount of garlic. A+ for flavor - wouldn't change a thing! The family owned place made me feel right at home. The owner and my daughter had a lovely little connection - he seemed to genuinely enjoyher baby talk and they went back and forth throughout the night. Good vibes, good food, and byob - can't go wrong! This will be my go to Indian spot from now on.

Allie R.

Yelp
Some of the best Indian food I've had. Asked for my chicken tikka spicy and it definitely was not only spicy but also delicious!

Josh R.

Yelp
We wanted Indian food on a whim and wanted to see what was local. Taste of India was a great experience! Out server was very nice and patient and was more than happy to help us with anything that we needed. We had the buffet which was $12.95/person compared to a regular entree which would have been the same price or more, so the buffet was definitely the best because you were able to taste all they had to offer as much as you wanted. I really enjoyed the goat dish as well as the chicken masala. I would definitely recommend!

Jean P.

Yelp
Great food! The owner offered us the buffet and it was actually a great deal, food was really delicious. I really liked the chicken tikka masala, the grilled chicken and the basmati rice. But my favorite was the Patoori bread, it's fried flat bread, could not stop eating it.

George B.

Yelp
Decided to try out their lunch buffet on a Sunday. When I got to the place, there was no sign advertising the buffet, but once inside you'll see the spread. The food is flavorful but is limited and is over priced compared to the buffets in Jersey city and etc.

Guy B.

Yelp
What a great place. Very friendly people and service was good. They had many dishes that I've never seen at an Indian restaurant before. Everything we had was delicious and we will definitely be back for more. Only downside was the TV that was on, I prefer to come eat a quiet dinner and not hear the news. But the food and service is great, and that's what really matters.

Jim W.

Yelp
I really like this place. Flavors are just so incredible. Spicy but not hot hot. Prices are reasonable too. Yes, it is not fancy and presentation isn't the best, but for me it's all about the food and everything I have tasted here so far (3 visits) has been a happy flavorful party in my mouth. I could make a meal of just Naan and the Tiki Masala sauce. Can't wait to return.

DB Y.

Yelp
Quick disclaimer - when having Indian food I am not an adventurous diner - that said I rate what I have had at Taste of India at 4 stars. The chicken tikka was delicious with just a hint of heat. The grilled chicken with hints of ginger is delicious, the meat is succulent, moist and with great texture. And the naan is light, soft and warm and garlicky - enough said. What is a shame is the dining room which looks more then a little tired and in dire need of rehab (the AC was turned on when we walked into the restaurant). Another item that was disappointing was the service - while they were nice we were left in the room alone for a periods of time. AND they don't keep soda cold and don't provide us unless requested - when we requested ice - it looked like remnants of ice "picked" from somewhere - the ice was one piece that quickly melted in the soda. If you can overlook these "little" things then this place is worth a visit for the food.

Claire B.

Yelp
Very nice service. Warm and welcoming. We tried this place for the first time tonight and we loved the food. My son tried Indian food for the first time and was really pleasantly surprised with how much he liked it. I am happy we have another local option for lunch and dinner. We will return.

Danielle C.

Yelp
I come here often with my co-worker when we're in the mood for Indian food. I'm not sure about the other reviews saying that the owners are rude, but every time I've been here they've treated me and my friend like family. Also each time we've been here the man, who seems to be one of the owners, is always talking and laughing with everyone there creating a very comfortable environment. But more importantly, the food. The chicken tikka masala is delicious! It's my to-go dish every time I come here as I'm not a big fan of the vegetarian dishes. I decided to try the malai kofta and instantly fell in love! I'm always happy to find new Indian food I like! The service is always very attentive and I just always just leave feeling full and happy. Can't beat that buffet style lunch!

Deb S.

Yelp
We really wanted to like this place. However, not long after the meal was over, we both got food poisoning. :/ For what it's worth, we were the only diners in the restaurant for dinner; not a great sign. 2 Stars because the service was good, but I can't say we'll be returning after both getting sick.

El M.

Yelp
Delicious food and excellent service!!! Everything was fresh and flavorful, spicy but nothing too crazy. Very good portions. Would definitely recommend :)

Zaia S.

Yelp
Food was good, even though, my dish, palak paneer, tasted good but was very greasy. The chicken Tikka was cooked very well, but they didn't serve it with any yogurt or sauce, so it was a bit on the dry side. Finally, the place is a disaster! It is very dated and it could be cleaner. The service was OK. I probably won't go back.

Alison M.

Yelp
My favorite Indian restaurant anywhere, without a doubt. Probably the best in NJ. Actually, it's my favorite restaurant of any kind. Palak paneer, malai kofta, onion kulcha are my favorite dishes, and they're addictively delicious here. My meat-eating friends love the shrimp or chicken tikka masala, chicken saag, and tandoori chicken. The service is friendly. Parking is good. Atmosphere casual.

Evan H.

Yelp
Biriyani wasn't great, it's alright, nothing special. Tikka masala was a bit better, but doesn't even come with rice, which is a first. All in all not that memorable.

John R.

Yelp
I tried this restaurant for the first time tonight. Being from the UK and living here for the last 16 years I haven't never had a great spicy curry until tonight. It was out of this world so flavourful and tasty it was like just being in India I will return for sure!!!
