The 38 Best Restaurants in Sydney, Australia - Eater

"Co-owner Sam Luo is from Shunde, a Chinese town with a significant history of Cantonese cuisine and earned UNESCO status as a city of gastronomy. The menu at Taste of Shunde features dishes that aren’t so regularly seen in Sydney. Fried milk (which tastes like a snowy egg custard) can be served savory with fish cakes, roe, and pine nuts, or sweet with mango, while the fried milk rolls are like a coconut-laced hybrid of spring rolls and cannoli. The blockbuster item is the lavish roast goose (sometimes made with duck). The restaurant is located in Hurstville, one of the alternative Chinatowns that thrive across Sydney (like Chatswood and Eastwood in the north, the Little Shanghai strip of dumpling shops in Ashfield, and the neon-lit Burwood Chinatown in the city’s inner-west)." - Lee Tran Lam

Food was great but some items were on the pricier side. The best part of the visit was definitely the roast goose which is quite hard to find in Sydney. Great service and atmosphere. Also there is a new supermarket in the restaurant which I found quite strange but it offers a variety of Asian goods, okay value.

Surprisingly, the food is great! We came because we saw it in the Good Food Guide and were wondering why the Google rating was a bit low. But we think the food quality is excellent – we especially loved the seafood platter. We don’t normally eat much Chinese food, but this was a great experience. The waitress’s English was a little limited, but the service was still good and we were well looked after.

We tried a few dishes and they were generally good. Fish skin dish was something new to me. Nice and chewy. I like the roast goose, very meaty. Staff members were friendly and nice to us. Interesting fried milk dish too.

I am a very regular customers here for so many years. But, I will not coming back here any more after today. I came to the restaurant at 7.30 pm, today is Saturday but it wasn’t busy at all. I stand next to the counter for about 15’ and no bossy even say hello or ask me to sit down or find the table for me like I normally had been served before. 5 china lady họ past me but she didn’t even ask me. Even the lady behind receiption. I wondered if they closed. Suddenly, a couple of Chinese customer came in and they had been served straight away and had table and sit down. And she still didn’t ask me anything. I was so upset as I had been waiting around 20’ already. I asked the receiption lady “ are you close or still open” and she said “ oh, we open” and I said then why none of you even ask me or say hello to me. Then finally, I can sit down. Unfortunately, it wasn’t finish one lady left a hot pot of tea on the chair where we sit down and forgot about that. So, when my daughter came and pull the chair out the whole pot of boiling hot tea drop on her leg. Her leg was burnt and she didn’t even say sorry to her. I want to talk to the manager about this but until I finish she didn’t even come and talk to me. It’s was terrible service. If My daughter get hurt I will take them to the court. It was very terrible service. I will not come back again. It wasn’t busy at all.

I had the worst experience at this restaurant. I never thought the Chinese New Year event could taste so bad. The service was poor, with long wait times, and the food was cold when it was served to us. The New Year event menu featured low-quality food, yet they charged lobster prices. I've never tasted fish soup as horrible as this. We paid nearly $550 for those cheap-quality and cold food. If the food had been tasty, that would have been fine, but the flavor was awful. We ended up taking home almost 70% of the food. Definitely not worth going back. 🥹So disappointing for my Chinese New Year Eve experience

I was here at lunch for a function. Food was delicious, the duck was exceptional, the roast duck delish. The ladies who served us were very friendly, unusual for your typical Chinese restaurant. Would definitely come back and try the yum cha too.
