Google
Never been to a Caribbean buffet and thought this was a good experience overall. First impressions were ok as some of the rices were hard and some food looked like it had been on the buffet line for a while. But after the first plate, they placed more food out and it tasted great. In addition, asked if there were more plantains, they said they were making more. To our surprise, they brought it to our tables every time we asked for more. They were delicious, hot, and fresh. My favorite was the stew meet. The flavors in the beef stew were scrumptious. They also have meals to order and groceries for you to buy. The workers were friendly and sweet. Overall, a good first time at a Caribbean buffet.

Google
Taste of the Caribbean was amazing! I had their chicken roti and it was absolutely delicious — tender, flavorful, and packed with authentic Caribbean spices. The buffet had a lot of other great options too, and everything looked fresh and appetizing. The restaurant has a nice, relaxed vibe and the staff was super friendly. I’ll definitely be back soon! Sorry demolished the food will take a better picture next time☺️⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

You come here for the vibes and the FOOD! Everything tasted authentic, just like home food (almost). We had the buffet which we recommend if you wanted to try a little bit of everything. It’s also a good option if you’ve never had Guyanese or Trinidadian food. Food - Mac & Cheese; chicken curry; aloo curry; pumpkin; sweet ripe plantain (buffet) with dhal puri/roti skin and Bake & Saltfish; Chicken patties Drink - Sorrel; cream soda; coconut water (with pulp) To go - Fried rice; chowmein

Google
This place is excellent! I went with my brother and sister for the buffet and it was so good we immediately started making plans for when we should return. Can't wait to try their fancier dishes that aren't available with the buffet i.e... curry goat, oxtail..etc.

Google
Authentic Caribbean Gem If only there were more Caribbean restaurants in America, but this one is excellent. The prices are reasonable, especially considering today’s economy. The customer service is outstanding and offers a homey feel for those familiar with the islands. From the moment you open the front door, you’re welcomed by the mouthwatering aroma of Caribbean seasonings. Highly recommend and will make sure to visit every time I'm in town!

Google
I recently dined with my family at this family-owned Caribbean restaurant and was impressed by the variety and quality of their buffet offerings. The jerk chicken was smoky and tender, the oxtail on the side was rich and flavorful, and the roti was soft and perfect for sopping up the savory sauces. The fried ripe plantains were a delightful surprise, and the mixed vegetables provided a refreshing contrast to the rich meats. Our server was knowledgeable and resourceful, happily answering questions about the dishes and making recommendations. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience that left me feeling full and satisfied. Highly recommend for anyone craving authentic Caribbean cuisine!

Google
If you're tired of typical Chinese buffets and love to eat flavorful dishes you may have never tried this is the place to go. All of the meat was well seasoned and fall off the bone tender. The staff was welcoming and bright. Definitely going to be swinging by here again when I'm in the mood for this type of food.

Google
We had ordered a surprise bag because we've never ate there. Anyone wanted to see what the food taste like? We ended up with the drone steak and two Little pieces of meat that were dry. No gravy on them as the picture show. The rice was bland and also the black beans. Nothing had any good flavor in the platans tasted horrible. I thought we were gonna get something like the ox tails for being $10 a plate. The only good thing about the place was the gentleman was really nice. But the women working there were just as bland as the food

Yelp
I loved this place. Kevin and Jackie are amazing hosts. They have a great buffet with extremely affordable prices as well as a ton of other options. I can't wait to go back! The atmosphere is perfect. With the decor and music at like a little island get away. Even better, they have a small section of groceries.

Genille R.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch. Enjoyed a nice hot doubles with slight pepper. Service was good and food was delicious as always.

Jackie J.

Yelp
Was told about this place by a random person in 2020! Checked it out and been a customer since!

Yelp
Stumbled upon this gem of a authentic Carribean restaurant this weekend. Let's start with the hospitality. Upon entering I was greeted by Mr.R he was pleasant and happy to answer all of my questions about the menu in detail. The entrance has a mini market where you purchase Carribean seasonings, drinks and produce. I thought the restaurant was take out only at first until I spotted the dining area. The space is quaint and small I personally like the dining setup. There is also a stage setup in the dining area for comedy night. Puts me in the mind of the Houston Improv where you can dine and watch a comedy show. The food was great! I had the Stewed Chicken, Cabbage, Mango Salsa w/ a Roti and plantains. In addition to that I also ordered freshly squeezed pineapple juice and a beef meat pie. Here are my ratings on each dish: Meat Pie- I give it a 7 out of 10. The beef was more in a pate form than ground beef as I have had in the past and the pie could use more flavor. Pineapple Juice- Too sweet for me I would have liked a stronger pineapple flavor. 4 out 10 Mango Salsa- Excellent ! 9 out of 10 Cabbage- Had nice crunch complimented the meal well. 8 out of 10 Plantains - cooked to perfection 10 out of 10 Stewed Chicken- 9 out of 10 Great flavor. Next I will go for more spice. Prices at this location runs anywhere between $14 - $21.99 which i think is fair.

Yelp
The service was excellent and the food was on point.. the doubles were amazing and the roti is soft and delicious

Diane B.

Yelp
I am just finishing my meal and it was Delish and really clean eating. I got the stew chicken and the chicken curry And the beef patties. My first time here and I will be back. The restaurant is super clean and there's a little grocery store next to the restaurant. It was a surprise to find next to Spec. I like having a good quality restaurant around the corner from my home.

Michelle B.

Yelp
Best Caribbean food you will ever taste and friendliest service if you love roti or doubles this is the place they gave the best

Josina G.

Yelp
The food tastes great, and the customer service was exceptional. It was an honor to be a tester to their new grill and BBQ chicken. My husband said that was the juiciest piece of chicken he ever had.

Frederick J.

Yelp
I gave two stars for customers service, very nice and helpful. The Oxtail wasn't hitting for me. My wife and I ate a bit of the plate and trashed it, we don't usually do that. Better food would make this place 5 star.

Matt B.

Yelp
Absolutely love how amazing and friendly the owners and staff are. On top of that, the food is absolutely amazing. I eat here at least once a week. Highly recommended for a nice Trini meal in Houston.

James K.

Yelp
The restaurant had no product prepared. The proprietor was very kind and tried to prepare some items but even with that effort the product was not very tasty.

Jasmine M.

Yelp
First time trying the taste of caribbean for lunch and there was little food left prepared. The chef was very personable but kept talking over my questions when I was asking if he could make more food. Me and my husband are not eating meat so all we wanted were vegetables. A lot of the sides have the same garlic flavor. I was looking for just a variety of fresh caribbean food and it was a miss on this one. I was disappointed because it smelled so good when we walked in. The fresh soursop juice was good though.

Flagg S.

Yelp
Food: Awful. Worst I've had. Will def NOT recommend or go back again. JUST NO. $34 spent on nothing. Service: ok Ambiance: no comment.

Eryckah H.

Yelp
If you love Caribbean food this place with make your soul smile!!! The oxtails and goat was so good I had to thank the Lord twice! Daniel was very hospitable and my son and I are claiming this to be our new spot. Do yourself a favor and stop by and get some GREAT FOOD!

John S.

Yelp
Delicious food, and the owner and his wife are great to talk to. I received a lesson about Trinidad. It's hard to find small businesses like this with authentic food, but, more importantly, authentic people. I recommend and will return to support.

Shani F.

Yelp
Great customer service. I am usually not a fan of buffets but the food was so good and fresh. The roti was great. I enjoyed the cabbage, curried potatoes, and jerk chicken which was all included on the buffet! The buffet's pricing was great! Lastly, I'm always happy to support family owned businesses!

Fee L.

Yelp
Who serves oxtails for $26.99 and the oxtails are flat like they cut them like steaks. I've never in my whole entire life ever seen oxtails that look like this, that's dry and look fried like this. I can make my own oxtails, rice and beans, and plantains but more authentic, souped is with juices, and bigger than this for way less than 26.99. These people need to be ashamed of their selves. This is a waste of money. Glad I know now, won't be coming back again. Ever!!

Amanda W.

Yelp
Dont go before 1 pm. Many dishes wont be ready. Food is decent. We went for the doubles but it was going to be 1.5 hours before we could order one. Many other items unavailable. Staff is nice. Good portion sizes. Slightly over priced.

Wendell B.

Yelp
Over the past seven years, we have visited "Taste of The Caribbean" almost every weekend for one or a combination of brunch, lunch and dinner. It's a family-owned restaurant, with friendly service and authentic Caribbean cooking. This is probably the only Caribbean restaurant that still prepares and serves healthy choices such as salt-fish, baigan-choka, smoked herring, and fry bake, just to name a few. Portions are very generous and on Sunday's they even offer a buffet. I highly recommend this restaurant and would definitely say to give Pamela and Ramesh the opportunity to serve you and your family.

S. S.

Yelp
Good food just too damn hot even when you ask for a mild sauce. Cabbage can be cooked a little bit more.

Carolina S.

Yelp
We came here for lunch buffet and really enjoyed the entire buffet. I was instantly greeted by the owner who explained every dish in the buffet . I tried almost every item and it was all delicious. Highly recommend. Will be back soon

Drew G.

Yelp
Never ever had I eaten the oxtail made from Trinidad, EXCELLENT food tender mean and the peas and rice were delicious. I will eat there again. Very happy to have found this place

Fabian R.

Yelp
Stopped here and met the wonderful owner Pam. She was very welcoming. Her husband was there speaking with all the guests, welcoming them in and making sure everything was to liking. The food was hot and fresh and there were many things to be desired. After filling my plate to the top and grabbing a seat I dug in. The food was great , curry chicken, plantains, jerk chicken, macaroni pie, just so much food. I loved it all. I will be back Friday for the live music.

Alexander W.

Yelp
As soon as I walked into this place, I knew I was going to have a different dining experience. I was greeted very warmly by a guy that had a very familiar accent. The accident was from Trinidad and Tobago (Port of Spain). This guy, who I would assume is the owner, made me feel as though eating at a relative's home instead of a restaurant. You can order to go, but what fun is that?!? The all you can eat option is the way to go here. This food does not sit around for very long. The staff is always preparing fresh items for the buffet. Have you ever wanted to try roti? They have it. Have you wanted to try a dish with salt fish in it? They have it here. Curry this and stewed that is what you will find here. Live a little and see what the goat tastes like. Do you want to have a dish with great balance of taste and the spice of habanero peppers? Come here. Do you want to try authentic Caribbean drinks as well? Come here! All in all, a good introduction to various Caribbean dishes. This is authentic Caribbean cooking because people from Port of Spain, Jamaica and Belize we're in the kitchen while I was there. Two upgrades to make this a five-star experience for me - the first would be Fountain drinks with unlimited refills. Paying $1 or more per bottle of drink could be off putting. I understand their dilemma, because they do not have the space to install such a machine. With this delicious food, they just may have to expand to a bigger building! They look as if they could seat between 20 - 25 people at a time in there. With that smaller space comes only one restroom, so do not come here and have to go! Rushing to the restroom may be a messy experience if that door is locked! The restroom was cleaned really well by the way. The second suggestion would be make the temperature not feel so tropical in the restaurant! Turn that air conditioner to a lower degree! With their kitchen being right next to the food, buffet resting place, the temperature does rise in the place. I was worried that leaving Katy, TX would be the end of my Caribbean buffet eating, but this place is worthy. What makes this place cool is there is a buffet for lunch and dinner Wednesday through Sunday. Sunday's buffet has special items on it...come see what they are. Remember that this place IS NOT open on Monday and Tuesday. Come here and eat up. If you are brave, or have a high tolerance of hot stuff, try whatever that red, pepper sauce is in condiment section!

Christa A.

Yelp
They are so sweet here! This was my first visit. The main kitchen is closed due to covid. The owner and his wife are very nice. We ordered take out (oxtails, lamb plate, and buss- up- shot roti) which was super delicious! The food quality and quantity were great. Ask for the special sauce with the roti. It was so good! You won't regret. (:

Michelle G.

Yelp
Best Veggie Roti!!! I was visiting Houston and came across this Caribbean gem! The veggie Roti was very delicious. The taste of the curried potatoes with chickpeas topped with a bit of cabbage was perfection.

Jonathan B.

Yelp
The owner was very passionate about his business and food. He an excellent host ! Food was delicious jer chicken was everything

Simone V.

Yelp
Love the good food. No longer dining in due to Covid. Owner and his wife are very welcoming. Will always come back because the food is authentic to Trinidad.

MeanJoe O.

Yelp
It's a favorite of people who used to work on craigslist in the W4M section. The food was okay, my husband is cheap and only wants to take me to a cheap place like this for a $12 buffet. I'm from Ozone park, Queens NY and we have much better restaurants than this one. But I had to move to Texas so I could get married and get my green card.

Thomas J.

Yelp
Good show but not good enough. They have a buffet and we got sloppy second. The food was mostly cold and some dishes were all gone? I waz like where is the food. The caliloo soupy. No flavor. I eat two bits of this and I don't like it at all. Nice people very friendly but you dishes are lacking. I will recommend it because of the owners are nice.

Dan L.

Yelp
If you're in the mood for some authentic and good roti, curried chicken and jerk chicken, this is the place. The owner and his wife are very friendly and greeted me at the door. They have a selection of chicken, pork and veggie dishes along with roti bread. I found the buffet to be fresh with a good selection of popular Caribbean dishes. My top picks would be jerk chicken, curried chicken, roti bread, curried potatoes and chick peas, and stewed pork.

Luis W.

Yelp
My goodness where do I begin. Found this little gem while searching for some good Caribbean food in the area. My mother in law is from Belize so, I've been eating this type of food for almost 20 years. And this place does not disappoint at all! My wife got the stewed chicken plate. Came with rice and beans, steamed cabbage, salad and fried sweet plantains. Amazingly delicious. I decided to get me a buffet plate to go. A good price ($6.99 a pound) for whatever they have in the buffet line. I got a little bit of everything. Stewed chicken, stewed pork, jerk chicken, rice and beans, macaroni pie, steamed cabbage, roti, curry potatoes and plantains. Everything was delicious! My favorite was the stewed pork and the jerk chicken. The owners were very nice showing me everything f they had and didn't hesitate to answer any question I had. I will be back and I will make sire I grab some hot pepper sauce as well!

Shahira S.

Yelp
I went here some time ago by accident but was so happy with the mistake I made. I love, love, love trini food. I've been eating it all my life and when I saw that it was a buffet omg with buss up shut (light roti goodness) I was praising Jesus. I was also happy that the variety of selection for those who do not eat meat. Before I even walked into the store I was greeted by one of the owners. She was so welcoming and had the strong trini accent which brought back memories of my childhood in NY. Her husband welcomed me and made me feel as though I was apart of the family and dining at there house instead of a restaurant. Inside is very small but adequate. The buffet starts out with cornbread and some cake. and then has all your meats curry chicken, curry goat, stew lamb, jerk chicken and others. Then it goes into the other section which is meatless, this includes calaloo, cabbage, channa (curried chickpeas), rice and peas and much more. They have all the Caribbean drinks and you can order many items not offered on the buffet to go. I always come here when I visit Houston, and you should to.

Nelopher D.

Yelp
Felt right at home as soon as we walked in! The macaroni pie, cornbread, goat curry, plantains, and the quality of the service was splendid! The roti was the best we've tasted anywhere. The staff was so welcoming! The guy makes you feel like he's your grandpa! If they run out of items they make it right away for you. The buffet closes at 3pm on Saturday but they still let us sit and finish our meals without any hurry. And they even put some really good tropical music to put you in a jovious mood

Kim M.

Yelp
Absolutely the worst food I've ever eaten from a restaurant. Save your money and go to McDonald's instead it's that bad. There is no seasoning on the food at all not even aromatics no onion, garlic, peppers, herbs nothing. It taste/look like they put Browning on the meat and added water to stew it that's all.I had the oxtail and strew chicken with rice and peas, they didn't even put coconut milk in the rice. It was all so terrible tasting and disappointing. Don't let the owner being extra nice even giving extra food sway you it's bad all bad. Easily the worst I've ever eaten anywhere.

Saliha H.

Yelp
Real authentic Trinidadian cuisine! I found this place looking here on Yelp. I was skeptical at first because this was my first time going. I didn't know if the food would be as good as places in NYC, but it surpassed my expectations x100. As soon as I walked in, it smelled of my mom's home cooking. It has all the island vibes, playing soca in the background and even have a band stage in the back for live music. They also sell some Trini snacks/drinks (crix, homemade sorrel, etc). They also make custom orders of pholourie and doubles, you just have to call first. There's a nice section with plenty of tables and chairs where you can sit down and eat your food The owners were really nice as well. I chatted with one of them for half an hour before eating. I'll become a regular soon enough! Try this place, you won't regret it:)

London W.

Yelp
If you're looking for Trinidad authenticity, THIS is the place to go!! This establishment is clean and they have outstanding customer service. The food here taste better than any other place I've ever experienced, and I have experienced many. I love this place so much and I'm thankful for them for keeping this establishment open. Come here if you want a true taste of Trinidad!!

Scott T.

Yelp
This is one of those areas of cuisine where I am not familiar. However, I didn't find anything that I particularly found worthy of a second helping. I am told the food here is quite squarely based on the cuisine of Trinidad. I was also told, by one of our dining companions, that the food was spot-on authentic. Too bad I already had a mouthful of food, otherwise I might have been impressed. It is a buffet. It is a small buffet. It is a tired buffet. It is a cheap buffet. There is not much positive I can really say. Drinks are extra, which is fine. I had the Mauby. It kind of reminded me of a cider. It was quite good but a drink cannot carry a meal. The owner was busy talking with all of the customers. He chatted with us for what I felt was too long. I wanted to just enjoy the meal and my own company. But he kept rambling on with his story. Perhaps he was trying too hard. Maybe it's just not my cup of tea, but I wont be back.

Tae S.

Yelp
This place was ok. It's nice to see a Caribbean buffet in this part of town. I was not blown away by the food on the buffet. I am not sure if I would make a trip for this but I am glad I tried it out. This place is in a strip mall off of the main road.

Kelly D.

Yelp
Great food and great service! The buffet had a large selection and everything was very delicious. You can tell the food was cooked fresh.

Jemela M.

Yelp
Service is excellent! Food even better if possible. Restaurant is clean. I had the buffet. Favorites were the jerk chicken, brown rice, roti, salt fish, and apple armchar talkarie. Best carribean I've had other than being in the carribean!

Jessie L.

Yelp
Wow I can not believe we stumbled on this little gem. My friend and I decided we wanted to try a different place from our usual restaurant spots. We chose this place and it was AMAZING. The owner greeted us with the sweetest welcome and explained everything on the buffet. He made it really personalized by asking about us and telling us everything about how he came to Houston. I love small restaurants where the owners put their heart and soul into the establishment and the food. All good vibes from our experience! Food wise: I loved being able to try all the foods on the buffet. The meats were all high quality and the spices on the dishes were exquisite. I definitely will be coming back to this place. I'm so happy to have found it!

Sherice L.

Yelp
I truly enjoyed visiting this place simply because everyone there including the owner, had something in common. We all came down from NY- by way of our original roots T-n-T. The buffet had just been closing down because we got there at around 3 PM and selections were very few. The greatest part of ordering our roti was that we were getting fresh Dhal Puri made right in front of us. We misunderstood when we were told that out of 5 roti that we ordered only one would be mixed with stew chicken because there wasn't enough curry left. We got about 5 doubles as well. Everything was tasty, however, we wish we had the traditional curry in that freshly made-delicious roti skin. The sorrel was awesome. Not too sweet! Usually a lot of places make it pretty syrup-y. Either way, I am glad that I heard of this place. I know I'd like to go back to try everything else.

Yan C.

Yelp
Good spot right next to cycles !!! Got to learn how to ride bikes and stuff and than hit the food place after ! Very Intense day deserves a good meal ! Special with such a high variety good good ;) don't forget the rice crispy !!!

Simon S.

Yelp
Enjoyed the jerk chicken, curry crab, curried shrimp, fried banana, yucca, and the authentic buffet with Caribbean music !

D C.

Yelp
Go for the buffet, stay the show! This is a small mom and pop place. The buffet is simple with many protein options. Today it was curry chicken, stew chicken and thier version of jerk chicken, stew pork, swai, and shrimp. I am not sure if it changes as this was my first time and I did not ask. There was maybe one more, but sides include stewed red beans, curry potatos, callaloo, rice and peas, plain white rice and roti. Again, i may have missed something there, but that is what my plate(s) focused on. It is all you can eat, so I took advantage. This is by no means fancy, but the food was tasty and hot. The one thing I would have liked to see is a bowl. The callaloo is a little runny, more like a thick soup than chopped stewed greens, but it is so tasty. I honestly could have had a bowl of rice and peas covered in the callalo, add the homemade pepper sauce to cut the sweetness and I would have been satisfied. Like I said, this is a mom and pop place, the older gentleman at the door is very engaging and checks on you regularly. It is a small place, simple, but with personality, and that is why I gave it a five star rating. The food is good and very simple, the only thing I was missing was the fried plantains, but I am sure I made up for it elsewhere. I would not go out of my way to come here, but since I work in the area, it will be a regular place. I am was too busy eating, and I did not take any pictures, sorry......

Rangika F.

Yelp
The food here is amazing. We love Trini food and we have been trying to find a good place here in Houston for awhile! Highly recommend. The roti is so good. We had chicken curry, goat curry, and oxtail. The rice and beans are so yummy. Plantains are on point. Mango chutney was a perfect blend of sweet and spicy. Red beans were also yummy. Meat was super tender as well.

Devon F.

Yelp
Great flavor, Great service, and Good pricing! Welcoming attitudes soon as you walk through the door.

Doug M.

Yelp
The food is super !they have developed a system for the take out food that it is the best we have seen so far. It is a pleasure to patronize local restaurants like this one !Order by phone pick up the food with safety in mind and flavor in your mouth

Xav Q.

Yelp
What can I say??? I'm a true island girl & this place was good 2 me. I took advantage of the buffet & got a little bit of everything. Too numerous to mention & for $12.99, couldn't b beat. Too bad I don't live in Houston else I would b a regular. I would recommend because its just that good. Customer service was on point also. Love my Caribbean people : ).
