⸻ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Hidden Gem in Sonoma Downtown – Worth Discovering! Absolutely five-star food! Taste of the Himalayas delivers an authentic, home-style Himalayan feast with every dish bursting with flavor. Each bite feels like it was cooked with care in someone’s kitchen—not a commercial kitchen—and the warmth of the hospitality matches the food. A clever insider’s tip: the restaurant is tucked right next to the Irish pub on the plaza, and could really use a sign to help newcomers find it easily. Once you know it’s there though, it becomes your go-to. The best part? You get the best of both worlds—sip on exceptional cocktails, whiskey, wine, or beer at the pub, then walk right over for an affordable, soul-satisfying dinner. It’s a rare combo that’s perfect for locals and visitors alike. Highly recommend if you want a flavorful escape from the usual wine country fare. Don’t miss it!

Google
Great food, very comfy, I got the lunch (lamb coconut curry) and it was delusions meal and they made it not spicy as I requested. Very happy with the experience, friendly staff and be back!

Google
Tastes ok, but nothing to write home about. The portions are very small and a bit pricey. I expected more for the amount they are charging. Friendly staff, but we waited about 45min for our food and it was just us and another customer there. It wasnt that busy!

Excellent lamb momo. Great service! Memories of Nepal. Glad I stopped. Nice comfortable environment. Lovely.

Google
I’ve only been to Sonoma twice and have visited here both times. Totally worth the trip every time! I highly recommend if you’re looking for a fast, quiet sit down with some comfort food. Friendly staff and warm, flavorful dishes. Perfect for a rainy day! I highly recommend the garlic naan, chicken chana masala and the Mismas chicken.

Google
Just had a great meal from Taste of the Himalayas! Best naan we've ever had. Staff friendly and attentive. Veggie momo's and veggie tandori was delicious!!!

Yelp
We ordered paneer tikka masala and the lamb curry. We enjoyed the flavors of both! The paneer here is fantastic and really soft. I will say that the spice scale is definitely on the mild side here. I was nervous to get spicy because I wasn't sure how the spice scale here is. So we got mild for one of the curries and medium for the other and they both weren't spicy whatsoever. So I would definitely go ahead and get spicy next time! In fact, I overheard another patron order extra spicy lol. The meals came with a delicious soup. Tasted like lentil soup! It also came with rice or upgrade to naan. We tried both options and both paired well with the curries. I always prefer naan and really enjoyed theirs. It's well seasoned. The pricing is a little on the steeper side.

Yelp
The people here are very nice. They want you to have a great experience. We all ordered lunch. It got to the table quickly! We all ordered medium spice and it was perfect! I loved how the prayer flags were hanging outside the window in this photo! The lighting is nice and there's so many nice pictures of the Himalayas. You feel like you are really there.

Yelp
We came here on a Tuesday at 6:15pm. The inside dining area was clean and we were the only customers inside. There were a few tables outside with customers. We ordered the Chana masala and the vegetable tandoori with rice and naan with an additional order of garlic naan. Dahl soup was good. The naan was perfectly cooked and servved fresh. The veggie tandoori was served on a sizzling plate and delightful. The Chana masala was nicely seasoned and probably could have been slightly hotter. It's been a while since we have been here but we are happy to return as the service and the food are something we keep coming to Sonoma for :).

Yelp
Service and ambiance is good but we ordered vegetarian options and it wasn't great. Mix veg has mostly broccoli and didn't have much taste. Daal soup was very plain with no spices. We ordered spicy paneer which was ok. If you are looking for vegetarian Nepali or Indian please go somewhere else.

Yelp
This is my go-to Himalayan place and one of the best restaurants in Sonoma!! The service is excellent; they are friendly, quick, and always looking to make our evening special. The food is delicious! I love spicy food, and this is one of the only restaurants in the Napa Valley Area that knows how to make spicy food. The last I was here, I got the chicken and vegetables monos and salmon tikka masala. The Tikka masala is my favorite! For drinks, I usually get the mango lasso and a beer (Flying Horse), which are both really good and a great compliment to the meal. Overall, if you like Himalayan/Indian food or want to try something different, this is the place to go to in Sonoma!

Yelp
Paneer Tikka masala and naan was very good. The daal could be given a little more flavor. Service is friendly and hospitable. Great location in the alley with live music and dancing. Moderately priced. Decent quantities. But a credit card fee was sus! Over all, nice place.

Paul B.

Yelp
Good atmosphere, service, and food. Went to the Girl and Fig, was sat and that was the end of it. After a while we gave up and left and were very pleased to find this establishment.
google avatar

Yelp
It is not as good as it was back in October. Do not get the lamb. I'ts very noisy because it is situated next to an Irish pub with live music.

Yelp
To go order review only. Ordered online and my order was ready for pick up at the time it said it would be ready. Everyone here is always super friendly. Food was delicious! They give you a little soup to start I think it's lentil very mild flavor but very tasty. The tikka was so creamy & flavorful. The saang paneer was really good as well. I like to mix both together. Their cilantro naan is the best perfectly cooked. All the food was still hot when I got home which is always a plus with take out. Will definetly be back soon

Yelp
What a cute place! So thankful to have it in Sonoma. TONS of vegan options, pretty much everything that doesn't explicitly say it has meat or paneer in it, and my server gave me a wonderful recommendation. I got veggie momo and the alu bhanta! The alu bhanta comes with rice and I also added chickpeas to it. DELICIOUS. Such a beautiful, rich curry sauce. And the momo were so fun with a great tomato chutney. The waitstaff was attentive and kind. I will definitely be back!

Dana L.

Yelp
I absolutely LOVE their food, esp the Vegetable Momo and Vegetable Tandoor. What is kind of irksome is that I always check the box on the website order form to include utensils (I always order to-go), and they never include them unless I specifically ask in person.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious Indian food! Have had delivery a few times, tonight I ordered samosas and the chili chicken (medium spicy). Tons of flavor, well cooked and seasoned, fast preparation as I ordered for delivery I can't speak to the ambiance but the food is quite good!

Yelp
One of the best restaurants in Sonoma. So many amazing options on the menu with a ton of vegetarian and vegan selections. Plus if you dine there they have a nice and cozy little patio area, and the inside is beautiful. The Chicken Chili is one of my favorite dishes I have ever tried at any restaurant, just perfectly balanced flavors and I always go medium plus or hot for spice level. I recommend ordering "hot" if you enjoy spicy stuff, really a perfect level of spice. Delicious momos too, both the chicken and veggie. All curry and tikka masala dishes I have tried are absolutely delicious. From the couple of times I have dined in the staff is always so friendly and helpful, so in my experience the service is always great just like the quality of the food. Takeout is consistent too, always amazing. All of the entrees come with rice or naan and daal, and the portion sizes are perfect, so it's a very good value. Great place for either take out or to dine in, with a beautiful location and a great menu selection!

Yelp
I eat here every time I'm in the area, the food is so good, the staff is very friendly and great quaint atmosphere. The chicken tikka masala is so flavorful I can't stop eating it. I highly recommend it, plus the basmati rice and garlic nan!

Yelp
We were told about this place by a local and decided to try it for lunch one day. The sister ordered the Saag Paneer the Spiciest and it was too hot for her to really eat. My sweetie and I shared the Saag Paneer MILD as well as the chicken tandoori, & Alu Bhantu, MILD w. garlic Naan. All of it was very tasty and really good. I also ordered the Chai tea which paired well with the seasonings of our food. All meals included the Lentil soup as a starter. Service was a bit slow and we had to often get up and ask for things inside. Not sure what was going on but it seemed like a slow day. Recommend this place but don't be in a hurry and order the MILD!
google avatar

Rachel R.

Yelp
I went with a friend, and we couldn't decide on which of the delicious items on the menu to order. But luckily they saw into our soul, and offered half/half of the Momos, chicken/veggies (the sauce that went with them was fantastic too). The entrees like curry, come in bowls, so we got two different entrees, and one of us ordered rice and the other Naan.. and we just shared it all. Service was on point... they brought plates, and enjoyed the food family style. I had an Arnold Palmer that was delish. Everything was perfectly seasoned and we had leftovers for the next day! The leftovers made a wonderful lunch the next day. Highly recommend!

Yelp
One of the best Indian/Nepalese places I've tried! This place is open for outdoor dining and they're Covid conscious. The workers are nice and attentive and the food comes out quickly! What we ordered: - Chicken Tikka Masala: Always my go to and this was on point here! Savory and pairs perfectly with rice or naan. The garlic naan or cilantro naan is the best! -Coco Tikka Masala: This is creamier than the regular Tikka Masala and the flavors are more mellow due to the coconut milk/cream. -Samosa: I love how this is fried to perfection and the chimmicurry tastes so fresh and tangy! I which they gave more though, one order is only 2 samosas. -Momos in Tomato Sauce: These Momos are vegetarian and they taste even better than meat! I love the texture and how it pairs well with a sweet & tart tomato sauce. -Vegetable Tandoori: This makes vegetables taste good! A great side to your meat dishes! -Chai: a classic. They make it right here. Not too sweet but not tart. Free refills. Overall this is an amazing place and I thoroughly enjoyed the food & service.

Yelp
Definitely my favorite restaurant in Sonoma. We live in town and find ourselves here a couple times every month. The tikka masala is excellent and we have even ordered just the sauce "to go" and mixed it with our favorite ingredients at home. As others have stated, requesting a dish as spicy will make you sweat. They are not afraid to bring the heat if you order it. The servers here are always friendly and helpful and if you phone in your order to be picked up, it will be ready when they say it will. But make sure you visit the physical location if you are visiting Sonoma. The interior is cute and decorated with painted image of the Himalayan mountains, with Buddha smiling down on you while you eat. Don't miss it.

Yelp
4.5 stars Hidden in a back alleyway off Sonoma Plaza is a friendly Himalayan restaurant with both outdoor seating and a cozy dining room, and the restaurant features a small, rustic menu of curries and tandoori dishes. We were started with a small cup of perfectly spiced, warm lentil soup, and then moved on with two appetizers: the lamb momos and vegetable momos (filled with a mixture of greens), both of which were served with a light tomato chutney. And then came our mains! The mix tandoori platter came with chicken tikka, salmon, and a huge chunk of lamb, all served with onions and peppers on a sizzling metal plate. We also got the tandoori rack of lamb, which were marinated, charred bone-in lamb chops, also served on a metal plate. All of the tandoori meats were nicely marinated and perfectly cooked without being overdone. The Alu Cauli curry was a simple mixture of cauliflower, potato, and green peas in a light, watery curry sauce. The Coco Masala was a slow-cooked coconut curry sauce, which we got with shrimp and mushrooms. Perhaps my favorite curry was the Alu Bhanta, a mixture of roasted eggplant, potato, garlic, and ginger, as the roasted eggplant had a hearty, smokey flavor which went nicely with the mixture of spices. Each of the entrees came with a choice of basmati rice or naan, which was thick, chewy, and perfect for dipping into the curries! Overall, while the food here was decent, the spices and flavors of the dishes were definitely toned down. I'd probably give 4 stars for the food alone, but am definitely bumping it up for the incredible value and the super friendly service!

Yelp
Just arrived in Sonoma and we were STARVING! We did 0 research on a place, we just walked downtown and saw this courtyard with two restaurants, an irish pub and the Himalayans, for some reason we decided on the latter and we did not leave disappointed. We got the chicken tikka masala and lamb tandoori. First thing that came was a split-pea soup, on the house. Tasted like peanut, delicious. The lamb tandoori was still sizzling and oh my did I love it... the chicken tikka masala my partner initially asked for spicy, but the server gave him a quick look of 'bro you sure' and he quickly changed his mind and good on him, medium was already plenty spicy. Not gonna forget the naan, very good. Needless to say we left feeling full and almost rolled out of the place.

Dan M.

Yelp
Easily one of the best restaurants in Sonoma Valley. Really can't go wrong. Spicy means spicy, so get ready to sweat if you're into that!

Lindsay A.

Yelp
Their chicken tikka masala (extra spicy), saag paneer and daal are "when in Sonoma" go-to favs in our family. Unfortunately, we don't love their naan so we stock up on TJ's before we hit the square
google avatar

Sarah E.

Yelp
Chana masala was delightful. Had the medium plus and it was perfect amount of spice for me (I'm pretty weak on too spicy). The lamb momo was phenomenal and chewy and the best flavors. The tomato sauce with it was perfect. I could have just eaten that with a spoon! The curry came with a split pea soup too. This place is tiny maybe 10 tables at the most? They have indoor and outdoor seating. There is live music right next door at the Irish bar most nights. The live band is sometimes in front of the entrance. If so, just got a tiny bit further to what looks like the kitchen entrance!

Akash G.

Yelp
Really nice small restaurant. The lamb and eggplant curries that we had were very delicious and fresh, and the samosas were also tasty. Bonus points for being a completely nut free restaurant!
google avatar

Sam V.

Yelp
Great food, small restaurant. Service was slow, but we figured it is a one man show, owner/operator.

Rachael A.

Yelp
I can't afford to go out often but today decided to treat myself to a lunch out. Ended up at Taste of The Himalayas to sit outside and enjoy a good meal since reviews looked good. The server acted slow and put out that he had to clear off a table for me to be able to sit outside on their small patio. He acted like he didn't want to be there and after I ordered a beer and appetizer he left for a long time. Finally brought me the beer but no napkin or silverware so when appetizer came I had to flag someone down to ask for napkin and silverware. Felt very neglected. Appetizer was very bland so I ordered a mango chutney to help with flavor. About 2Tbs arrived for $4. When I got my meal the lamb tandoori was so dry and overdone it was inedible, Very bad experience and terrible food. I will never waste what little I have there again!!
google avatar

Janice J.

Yelp
We got the veggie momos, eggplant curry with potatoes, and the lamb curry. The curry comes with daal, a lentil soup, and either rice or naan (extra for the naan). I got "spicy" and I was blown away. My mouth was on fire. I overestimated my spice tolerance and also underestimated their spice levels. The spice builds so you should get the medium if you enjoy spice but don't want to start sweating. Other than that I really enjoyed the meal haha! The sauce for the momos was cooling and fresh. My only complaint was that the momos weren't fully stuffed and the ratio of dough to filling was a little off. The flavors of the curry were great and the naan was delicious. The curries don't have milk or cream I believe.
google avatar

Depeka S.

Yelp
Specially came here to satisfy my craving for momos. Being a vegetarian Himalayan restaurants are usually the only ones I can enjoy my momos at as they have a vegetarian version almost always. Left disappointed after having one of the worst tasting vegetarian momo of my life (couldn't eat 1 whole momo). My husband tried it aswell and said that his lamb momo is a little more edible compared to my veggie momo- this comment didn't help me for sure :(

Jonathan T.

Yelp
Ordered in from these folks while on a visit to Sonoma. The lamb dumplings were amazing but the tandoori dishes tended towards the dry. Labeling the different containers of sauces with stickers would be very helpful.

Ethan R.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants in Sonoma! Service is quick and extremely friendly, and the portions are perfect
google avatar

Jasmine C.

Yelp
I haven't tasted too many Napalese restaurants but solid option for Sonoma. We got the chicken momos, lamb tandoori, Alu Bhat, and garlic and basil naan but I wasn't blown away. Could be what Napalese food taste like so don't want to be too critical. Chicken momos were the most memorable. They slightly reminded my of xiao long baos since the skins was thin and meat was flavorful. Better then the first momos I've had where the skins was thick and the filling was too salty. Lamb Tandoori was pretty dry and tough to eat. The butter knife made it hard to cut but the sauteed veggies were very fragrant. Other meats may be better. Alu Bhat was good and very hearty but wish it was a bit saltier. It was a bit sweet and I'm more of a salt person. Garlic and basil naan was thick and doughy and didn't have much garlic and basil so I'd probably skip this next time. The place was hard to find since there was no clear signage but you do have to walk into the tented area of Murphy's to see it. Service is pretty fast after you order but getting seated might take a couple minutes since there's only 1 or 2 people helping. They give you a lot of rice and the daal was tasty (bf thought was too salty though) and both fill you up.
google avatar

Bhawna J.

Yelp
We recently went for lunch here on our recent trip to Sonoma. The entry of the restaurant is inside another restaurant. Also when you enter it has seating on one side and kitchen on the other. They also have some extra seating on the outside with heaters. We ordered veggie momos, paneer tikka masala, coriander and garlic naan. I didn't like the momos at all. They had the most weird filling ever and it tasted really bad( actually they were healthy version of momos!). They had spinach, bokchoy and some other green leafy veggies with not much flavor. I don't recommend it to anyone if you are expecting Indian Chinese momos. The paneer tikka masala was good and naans were ok as well.
google avatar

Alice A.

Yelp
I was so delighted to find a Nepali place in Sonoma, and run by Nepalis too. Got the saag paneer lunch special, it was solid

Elaine P.

Yelp
It has been three years since we ate at Taste of the Himalayas. A few things have changed: the entrees now come with a choice of basmati rice or naan, not both. However, our server wisely suggested that we share one of each. Worked out perfectly for our mid-day meal. More than enough. Our meal began with a small cup of daal, soon followed by our entrees. My tandoori lamb was a beautiful presentation: three large pieces of lamb and crisp (not overcooked) vegetables on a sizzling plate. Delicious! I regretted I was not able to take the leftovers with me. DH enjoyed his lamb curry which he order with medium heat. I had a Joker Apple Craft Cider while DH opted for a glass of Real Gold, a Nepalese beer which he found quite pleasing. Service was pleasant and efficient. The food and service was good. However, a couple of improvements might make this a five-star visit in the future. Flies were buzzing throughout our meal. Very annoying. Some non-toxic fly traps might be helpful. The restroom, which is separate from the restaurant and apparently shared by other businesses, could have used some attention. Not dirty, but rather messy looking.

Yelp
***PRO TIP: $10 BYOB corkage fee!*** You are eating in a nice Indian restaurant in one of the great wine regions of the world. While their wine list is not bad with reasonable bottle prices, you can bring your own nice bottle purchased from many of wine shops within walking distance. We tried our entreés with a bottle of local 2016 VJB Sangiovese. As for the food, we got Veg. Momo, Veg. Samosas, Palak Paneer, Aloo Banta, Chana Masala and both plain and Garlic Cilantro Naan. For the kids we only got the palak paneer mild but everything else medium. This Nepalese establishment burnished their credentials for authenticity by making our "medium" quite a bit hotter, call it "Desi-medium." Delicious food, reasonably-priced charming little restaurant in the Sonoma Square area and a great BYOB policy to top it off.

Dave H.

Yelp
My wife and I had different items from the lunch menu. Both were delicious, but the portions were skimpy for the price.
google avatar

Puppilus P.

Yelp
Great meals! If you are use to medium spice having a little kick, it is not the case at this spot. The locals can't handle spicy food therefore the mild, medium, and spicy levels are not the norm. Go straight for the spicy level if you love very spicy food. If you don't love very spicy food stay with mild and medium meaning no spice lol. When they say spicy they mean it as they go from 0 to 100 from medium to spicy... It is so delicious and I love that each meal has dal and naan at no additional cost. Unfortunately the mango lassi is not good. It taste like an off flavored mango and milk drink. They need to use alphonso mangos for a more authentic and flavorful drink.
google avatar

Ryan B.

Yelp
My wife and I went there for a Valentine's date lunch. It was our first time so we didn't know what to expect but the food turned out to be delicious. Everything was really good, especially the garlic nans, they were just amazing! Probably the best nan we've ever had. Next time we will order 2 of that. Highly recommended!

D R.

Yelp
After eating here, I'm always a little plumper and a lot happier. Delicious food, very tasty, always glad I went. Yum! Live music most nights in the alley. Also if you're having lunch on your own, choose this place. The lunch options are great for people eating solo because of how they've set up the menu. It's quiet & laid back at lunch.

Yelp
This is my favorite restaurant in Sonoma. I go there multiple times on a single trip up. It's the best Himalayan food I've ever found in any town!! Everything is so incredible, the service is wonderful. Such authentic food and atmosphere. could not love this place more!!! Great job to the staff!

D D.

Yelp
It was decent an flavorful but everything we had was quite watery. My wife asked how my soup was and I had to explain to her that it was the curry. The mint sauce was good but like water. The Mango Lassi was excellent but quite small.
google avatar

Alexis P.

Yelp
I was not a fan of the samosas as I felt they lacked flavor, but the lunch special chicken tikka masala won me over. It was flavorful and very fresh. Staff were sweet and I enjoyed the outside patio.
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
Exceptional Himalayan food. If you like Indian, you'll love this food. It's a bit different, but there are overlaps. Delicious spices. If you like spice - you can get it hot and spicy. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I like sitting outside. Oh, and corkage is free!

Bender L.

Yelp
There's one in Sausalito too that's excellent and same family of owners I believe. Wonderful place !! And people !!

Yelp
Food is good and very friendly staff! Highly recommended. We had the chicken momo, potato and cauliflower curry, and salmon tandoori! Yummy

Yelp
I had no clue what to eat and I saw that one of my friends gave this place a five star on yelp. I hardly eat Indian/Nepalese food so I decided to give it a try! My boyfriend and I ordered shrimp tikka masala, steamed rice, naan, and veggie momo. The tikka masala was spicy but we found it so delicious! I honestly loved how creamy the curry was. It went so well with my rice and naan. I also found the naan absolutely delicious! The veggie momo was pretty good! I just wished that the steamed buns had more texture rather than soft outside and inside. Our server was Nima and he was so helpful! He was also very kind, we honestly could not have asked for a better server! He had such a great customer service and made our dinner more satisfying! I honestly love this place! It's really a must! I will definitely be back! :)
google avatar

Codi B.

Yelp
I don't know where to start!!! This place is a hidden gem. Located down a hidden walk way of cobble stone. Every dish is on point. I love the momo's make sure to ask for the spicy sauce:) Service, Food, and beer selection is great. I would highly recommend this place. I eat here at least once a week and never had a bad meal. Thanks again

Yelp
Food was good. It came out hot and delicious. The added bonus was the band playing in the courtyard... Scarlett's Letters !
