Really loved how quiet it was and the food was excellent! The portions were the perfect size for adults and small kids. The sushi was so good it was gone before I could even snap a picture. Our food came out very fast and was the perfect temperature. Definitely a great value for the food you get!

Taste of Tokyo in River Ridge is a small place, but it’s consistently very good. The food is fresh and well-prepared, and the staff is genuinely friendly and welcoming. It’s a family-run restaurant, and that shows in the best way. They remember your face, make you feel appreciated, and treat you like a regular even if you’re not there every week. It’s also been pleasantly quiet every time we’ve gone in, which makes for a relaxed, enjoyable dining experience. No rush, no chaos, just good food and kind people who clearly care about what they do. If you’re looking for a low-key spot with solid food and great service, this place is absolutely worth supporting.

Food was excellent! Highly recommend the voodoo roll and the pineapple fried rice. Bring your appetite because they aren't stingy! We had a party of 6 and were served promptly. Only thing that could use some work is one of the the food runners needs to be told the name of the rolls because we don't know what they look like lol. But that's a small thing.

I had the Bento Box Lunch Special. The price was quite inexpensive at $9.99, but the quality just was not there. I ordered the beef cooked medium, but it came out as chicken. I didn't want to wait, so I just ate it. It was OK, but nothing special and certainly not as good as that other local Japanese restaurant (on Citrus). My wife enjoyed the Playboy Roll. It looked better than what I had and my daughter had the Grilled Chicken Lunch special. She enjoyed that. If it were just me, I would give 3 stars, but the other meals looked pretty good. My advice would be to skip the lunch specials and just order the specialty sushi rolls. I've had those before and would recommend.

Excellent curry dishes, sushi, aged tofu, Yakatori, and Harumaki. Took a large order for 6 of us. No mistakes made on any order. Love the check out system when it's time to pay.

Very very good sashimi and sushi. This location is far superior in service and quality of food than the sub par location in Destrehan. The hostess was super nice unlike the one in Destrehan. We will be back to enjoy another meal there at River Ridge.

I went to Taste of Tokyo, and the server took our drink order. However, we waited for a long time for her to return. I had to flag the waitress down five times before she came back to take our food order. Our main course arrived before the appetizer, and after finishing the main course, we waited for the appetizer. One of the two appetizers never arrived, so I had to request its cancellation. Additionally, the salad that was supposed to come with the main course never arrived either. To top it off, the owner was rude. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant unless you’re okay with receiving your main course before your appetizer.

I went in usually knowing what I want when I eat sushi. Had a death in the family and ordered a bunch of stuff. Ordered lobster roll. Half the roll had lobster tail SHELLS in the center. Went back today after calming from the sorrow of the night before. I assume the lady who waited on me last night was the owner she came out and with No regard of my situation which she knew from me explaining being distraught last night. She goes on to try to sell me another roll and explained on the teddy bear roll the sauce is drizzled you have to ask for more if you want it. So to make a longer story short I explained I will not order there again and wanted to be refunded for the lobster roll. She gave me 1.80 a 10 percent discount. As We say in America BAD BUSINES!! WILL NEVER GO BACK!

After 6 years...I still come to this place to eat all the way from Baton Rouge. Lunch service was provided by the owner Joe today! We met up with friends for lunch around 11 am and it was empty! Yay! I had the beef tataki with a side of jalepenos. Also had peppered seared tuna (not pictured but you can find that pic in my previous post). Both are fresh and delicious! My friends sat at a round booth and we sat at a separate table bc we came late. They ordered the fish tacos and pineapple fried rice to which they exclaimed were delicious! Fish tacos were red snapper! Pineapple fried rice was brought out in an actual Pineapple!!!! Will make my way back soon!

The smell of Glade Plug-Ins was nauseating & ruined the meal. Pls address the root of the smell instead of trying to cover it up.

I'm in Louisiana for Business stopped into the sushi bar it Was good .. your typical sushi spot .. the service was good the food was good.

Food was beyond amazing, it came out fast and fresh. The service was on point as well. Always hard to find a great sushi restaurant that can deliver fresh sushi and fast service. Can't wait to go back

Okay so for all the negative reviewers... sushi is not for takeout so quit being lazy and over critical. Now... I had the burning man and 911 and it was fantastic! I travel all over the world and have eaten sushi everywhere you can imagine. The owner and staff go above and beyond for their patrons. I highly suggest anyone in the area pop in for over the top experience.

OWNER IS AN ALCOHOLIC THAT IS RUNNING THIS PLACE INTO THE GROUND. Served my 11 year old CHILD food with a used bandaid inside the food and did not refund our order even though it was completely UNEATEN! Then tried to accuse us of planting it in there. I cannot wait to call the board of health tomorrow! They haven't heard the last of me!

If you love sushi this is definitely the place to eat! I highly suggest this place I've been coming here for years and have never been disappointed! My favorite items are the Clear Soup Playboy Roll and special salmon roll ( this is the only place I've been to that has it). The ambiance is super nice and the service is pretty good too! If you're in the area looking for a great sushi place definitely check them out!

Stopped by an old favorite and was disappointed. Sat down, no greeting or drink order for 7-10 minutes. There were only 4 tables seated. When the server finally showed up with the beer and frosted glasses, it was luke warm and the waiter promptly walked away without a word without taking our app order. Mind you, three other servers were talking and joking around near the sushi bar and cash register. At this point, we asked for the check and downed our beers, paid and walked out. C'mon Joe. This is not representative of your expectations.

Very small portions! Had to ask for salad that came with meal... ordered Toro... worst I've erver tried 17.99 for 2pcs looked ansmd taste lije it was tawed under warm water just tasted old and off. I will not be back! OVER $50 For not good! That was one person!

This place has a great ambiance, top tier sushi and food and great service. Have been coming her for about 5 years. Best sushi in the area. Very cozy environment which is why I love it

Love this place. We don't come here enough. Though in our defense we don't come this far down Jeff Hwy often. Staff is always super friendly and the food is always good! The 3 rolls we got tonight were spot on so there's a good chance we'll be back soon!!!

Food was good but not great. We went on a Friday night and felt like we were seated at a food factory. I'd return but to me it wouldn't be my first choice due to service.

Taste of Tokyo is my favorite sushi restaurant in New Orleans. I love their specialty rolls and their clear soup is much more flavorful than any other sushi place I've been too. I particularly like this location because it seems to have a more neighborhood feel. Most servers are young Americans, and the customers are often local families. This location also has a hibachi room. The staff is always pleasant, I see the manager always making sure things are taken care of, sometimes the owner? comes by tables too. I like to come here on Wednesday's, they offer a special if you spend $50 you get a free bottle of wine. Each time the wine was different and I've really enjoyed every one. So much that I wanted to purchase it to drink at home. They had ramen as a special before and I loved it. Best ramen in Nola!! Unfortunately they stopped offering it. I like to ask about it every time, maybe they will bring it back. The only issue is that food is not consistent. I've got the same roll and sometimes the sauces are missing all together. As you can see by looking at the photos of the same roll from different people. This particular night the restaurant was very empty so I doubt it was because they were rushed. Overall I love TOT. I go here as often as possible and I would choose TOT over any other place for sushi. My favorite roll is the playboy roll!

This place has gone downhill and is circling the drain. There is an obvious drop in quality but somehow a rise in prices. The correlation makes no sense and there seems to be someone new everyday. Wish this was anything else because at this point, it's just wasting space.

This place is nasty. I ordered my roll for pick up and when I got it it looked funny, frozen, discolored, rubbery. I tried to eat some because I was hungry, but it started to upset my stomach. My wife packed up the rest, drive all the way back out there just to be told that since I ate some they weren't going to fix it. Not only did Lily take the rest of my, and kick my wife out... but to make it worse she had called the owner and he told her that it is his decision. I will not stop until I get my community to stop going here. They basically stole my money.. because I paid, have no food, and had to go to the store and buy stomach medicine. Go here if you want to have a horrible experience.

Really good food!! This place is GREAT for sushi and hibachi. I visited Taste of Tokyo about two or three years ago and hibachi was delicious and the chef was suuuper funny! We decided to go back today but this time for sushi. This is really the best sushi around the area... the rolls are out of this world! We had the KK roll & the Voodoo roll. Both rolls were extremely delicious and big enough for two people. I can't even decide which was my favorite! We also had a combination fried rice and I would give it a 4/5 because it seemed like they probably reheated it to serve but the flavor was good. Also, the shrimp on the rice were big! This place is definitely our new sushi place in town. Fast service and great staff!

We ordered through Waitr and the food came absolutely destroyed. All the boxes were mashed into each other. Sauces spill everywhere. We got mixer sashimi, truffle salmon, sweet prawn sushi and the slow your roll. All the sashimi were absolutely disgusting, they all smell fishy not fresh at all. The slow your roll were extremely salty and drenched in chilli oil. The only think that is good is the squid salad. Total was $94 for really bad food

Really great, accomodating & friendly service. Really great place to catch up with friends and family. Upside down roll is A MUST! DO NOT SKIP ON ORDERING THIS. it's so good. Even with the sauce that it comes with. It comes in a sizzling pan. I'm Def coming back for the upside down roll and to try other sushi rolls. The hibachi show was funny. It's really entertaining for little kids. Our chief did really well at keeping them from crying and keeping them interested and making them laugh. Portions for the price is fair. The seafood (scallops, lobster, shrimp) were really tasty and fresh. The rice & noodles were a bit salty/too much seasoning/soy sauce. So, if too much soy sauce is of concern for you, def let the chief know. Overall a great first experience, can't wait to come back to try out more things from the menu.

Love Mr Joe and their only worker, I don't know his name. The lady, which I'm assuming is mr joes wife needs a wake up call. She is rude, disrespectful, and doesn't know how to speak to customer or treat her staff with respect. With the experience I had last night, This place will never get my money again. We are greeted by their only waiter (who is amazing) and I had ordered something togo and it was brought to my table and I told the food runner it was supposed to be togo and offered to box it myself. The lady came over yelling at me and scolding me that I should've said I wanted it to go. (Which I did on the paper and told the server) which is besides the point because she shouldn't have yelled at a paying customer. Besides that, she brought us the electronic pay machine and we hadn't even gotten any of our food. My friend ordered a roll she didn't like so she expressed it to the waiter and he so kindly got her a replacement and when it came time to pay he walked up with the electronic pay machine and she came over and grabbed it from him and said "you're going to take too long and I don't pay you to stand here for 30 minutes wasting my time and money" she proceeds to try and charge my friend for the roll she didn't eat and got replaced and made her open her togo box to prove she didn't have the roll in the box. So rude and uncalled for! I don't know how anyone could put up with the rude and disrespectful comments she makes and how she treats people. She needs a major reevaluation of how to treat people. I've been a customer since they opened and they lost my business.

One of my favorite sushi places. Owners are nice, food is fresh, service is good, great ambiance, good for family or date night. Todo roll and upside down roll is where it's at!

Very disappointed. This is our first time at this location and we will not be coming back. We only came to this location since the Destrehan location is temporarily closed. The service was horrible. We had to flag someone down each time one of us needed a refill or when we were ready for our check. The hibachi chicken was bland and lacked the traditional hibachi flavor you'd expect. The sushi also lacked in quality. We spent over $100 and did not enjoy our experience at all!

Big fresh yummy house rolls, fast service. Hot and iced green tea a lil spendy at $2.75, but no big whoop.

Omg! Wow! What a lovely experience here. My friend and I are always looking for new sushi places to try and Taste of Tokyo was definitely a hit! We drove from Downtown New Orleans to River Ridge just to try the sushi here. And I would tell you, it was absolutely worth the 25 minute drive. Because we wanted to try different rolls, we decided to share an appetizer of edamame, the New Orleans roll, the Tokyo Sunrise roll, and an order of the harumaki. Let me just say, the harumaki was delicious. However, my friend and I did wish the bar was open. Although it was 2:00 in the afternoon, we would have loved a great drink. But on a brighter note, the service was great, our food arrived fast, and it was a great environment. I definitely plan on going back!

24 dollars for fried rice (no meat) and spring rolls. Asked for yum yum and they gave us LITERALLY less than a shot sized amount.

Very disappointed on the service. When the server comes by to pick up an empty plate, she literally spilled sauce all over the table and hit my phone. She didn't even apologize or give us any napkins at all. I also noticed that she never came back to our table. We ended up getting two different servers. I never write reviews before, but this is the first time I actually have to make a review. I like the shrimp martini doe.

This place is a little far out from where we live but we enjoyed it every time. Friendly staff and quick service. Haven't tried their hibachi but their hibachi room is beautiful!

We just discovered this hidden gem after we moved into our new neighborhood. What an amazing surprise! My four-year-old and my seven-year-old are just as freaked out as my wife and I. The hibachi is an amazing experience and the thing that we go to every time. Although I'd like not to post this and keep it a secret I can't. The food is delicious and the service is impeccable. It's extremely clean and the management is polite and thoughtful.

Very nice Japanese establishment with a vibe. It has got a decent size hibachi area right by a full size bar. It is sort of in a separate section of the restaurant so if you are a type of person who is not fond of being right next to the crazy vibe of hibachi grill, this place will work for you. Since my go-to selection at most of the Japanese joints are Sashimi, I can only speak for Sashimi but it was great! Unlike the majority of Japanese restaurants that tends to offer sashimi by 2-4 pieces per order, Taste of Tokyo offers in 9 pieces for all their sashimi. Also, they come in more of a complete dish creation rather than just sashimi pieces on its own. Refer to the picture. That was yellowtail at the back and peppered tuna in front. I found the price pretty reasonable. Very fresh sashimi. This might be the only Japanese joint that offers complimentary clear soup no matter what you order. Extra credit for that! The only suggestion I have for them would be that, it would be nice if the tables were not so close to each other. I felt like crammed. But overall, great Jap place if you are in River ridge!

Ordered this Cajun Cowboy roll (hand roll)Togo. Didn't look very appetizing and also got very sick after eating this hand roll. I'm a regular here I have never had a problem with anything here.

THEY HAVE HIBACHI NOW!!!!! & of course it's superb. I got the filet mignon and shrimp. Should have just got the filet. It's so tender and juicy, even the next day when you microwave the leftovers it's still good! And yes, you will have leftovers. Some may say the menu prices are a bit pricey, but trust me, they give you more than enough food for your money. I got the rice and the noodles. When I come back I'll get just the noodles. It was yummy egg noodles cooked just right. It went well with the veggies and filet mignon. The shrimp was good as well, but it didn't wow me as much as the steak did.

I've been here a couple times and wasn't blown away. Walked in and hostess left us standing there awkwardly waiting on her. First time there, an older Asian gentleman served us and he was great. Second time, the service wasn't as memorable. Both visits the sushi was light and fresh. We got the upside down roll, squid steak, bluefin tuna, ocean salad, and truffle salmon sashimi.

Came here during a late afternoon so it was kind of empty when we walked in but food and service was great. Rolls were a little expensive though. I shared three big rolls and one small with my boyfriend and sister. Fish tasted fresh but the spicy salmon in the spicy salmon roll was slightly fishy.

Always a good place to eat some filet and shrimp hibachi. Would definitely recommend Taste of Tokyo for lunch or dinner. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff.

Went here at around 7 ish, and there was a decent crowd here. We ordered a lot of sushi. Way too much. Lol. Appetizers: The shrimp tini was adorb and pretty tasty. The calamari was tasty as well. There was also the shrimp tempura (?). Sushi: The upside down roll, angry bird, LSU (?), and another roll were all good. Sorry I can't remember exactly which is which. This is what happens when you don't write the review in time. All the sushi were fresh and looked aesthetically pleasing. The service was pretty good and attentive as well. I especially like how the owner moved around and talked to the customers. Parking was plentiful since this strip wasn't too busy when we stopped by for dinner. But it was around Christmas or on Christmas Day (again, I can't remember--lol) so I can't say otherwise for other times.

Great sushi spot close to my house. I've been doing to go a lot because ya know, coronavirus. They are very quick to answer the phone and always very courteous. So far they've gotten my order right 100% of the time. I think they have a pretty large menu. They have all the basic rolls you'd expect but they also have some amazing specialty rolls so definitely feel free to venture off your normal order. They do offer dine in, but like most places it's probably a good idea to call ahead or make a reservation.

I'm giving 2 star because the price wasn't bad but food wise 0. I order the shrimp hibachi and the fried rice for lunch. I received 4 shrimp and everything else was vegetables but that wasn't the only thing. The shrimp taste old and didn't tasted like shrimp hibachi. The rice was not so bad. I thought this restaurant was actually good from the reviews I saw but I guess is only good in sushi.

This place customer service is just disgusting! They are rude. I'm not coming here again. I've giving it too many chances and every time something happens. So that a wrap!

It was a great atmosphere for my mother-in-law and I. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and customer service. Our table was cleaned nicely. Food came out hot and ready. No complaints over here. We live about 5 mins away from Taste of Tokyo, so very convenient for us to dip in and grab a bit. I highly recommend this place for their promptness and availability.

Not a place for hibachi! If your looking for hibachi this wouldn't be the place for it. Everything else is just ok. So it wouldn't be my first stop.

I really want to like this place after my friends hype up this place so much! I ordered the shrimp tini, jalapeño poppers, upside down roll, noodle salad, and tropic thunder roll. The only thing that was really good was the shrimp tini, but they short us. It wasn't even fill to the top. The jalapeño poppers were the most disappointing. It is basically snowcrab stuffed jalapeño. How can you mess up on snowcrab? It is the basis of sushi. That's when I knew the rest of the sushi wouldn't be any good. The noodle salad was extremely sweet and needed some black pepper. The sauce on the upsidedown roll was so overpowering that I can't enjoy the roll. The tropic thunder was pretty decent but the tropical roll at Little Tokyo is 100x better. My friend ordered the squid steak and the poke roll. He definitely don't recommend either one of them. The squid steak was bland and too watery. The topping on the poke roll didn't work well with the rest of the roll. Let's get started on the service. We had 3 difference servers. The first one spilled squid steak on my friend phone, the table, and on him. Yes, it was a lot. She looked at where she spilled and walked away. WE CLEANED IT OURSELVES!! She didn't even came back to give us more napkins. She was never to be seen again because she transferred us to the second sever, who had no clue which rolls was which. He even asked us what is this roll. Like dude, I don't work here how would I know! The sushi chef had to help him out. Our last server was an older lady and she was actually pretty sweet. During the meal, you can tell all of us were disappointed in the food and service. It simply wasn't worth the money. I lived about 5 mins away from Taste of Tokyo and I would rather take the extra 20 mins to somewhere else.

Wow! Wow! Wow! The best service I've ever experienced. Everyone of the staff helped each other with each table, were super nice and fast! The sushi was delicious and not too small, nor too big! The Valero Roll and the Angry Bird Roll (topped with salmon instead of yellowfin) were delicious! The only thing we didn't like very much was their miso soup. Other than that, we will be back!

Tasty Tokyo I came here for the first time for dinner after meeting the owner at a local food distributor store and thought I would try it out. I ordered the shrimp Shao Mai, Cajun Cowboy roll, and House soup. I thought all of the food was very satisfying and tasty. The Cajun cowboy roll was most unusual being laced in sliced roast beef while this inside was seafood spicy tuna content. It was tasty but not something I would order again as the beef took away from the seafood flavor. I would try something different on my next visit.

The food, especially the sushi is great. I would suggest dining in because they refuse to hire competent staff to take phone orders, most of them clearly high school students. The last couple times I ordered hibachi noodles they were bland, and they can't seem to make up their minds if the noodles come with vegetables or for an additional fee. I order from them almost weekly and this is always an issue. Other than that, some of the best sushi in town.

I absolutely love this little sushi joint! Living in River Ridge, Taste of Tokyo is super convenient for me. I was so excited to have a fantastic restaurant move into the neighborhood! They have tons of options of not only great sushi but a variety of other choices like noodle dishes, soups, salads, kids menu and desserts! The sushi is always fresh and with a variety of rolls you can definitely try something new every time you go. They also have a few special rolls of the day which they post on the board along with drink specials! A few of my favorites are the Valero roll, big easy roll, and Utah roll. I can't wait to venture into some of the other ones that sound amazing! They are also great at customizing your rolls. I tend to add a little something here and there to satisfy cravings, usually cream cheese! Yum! Taste of Tokyo has my two thumbs up!! The staff here is amazing! Super friendly and accommodating! You can tell they enjoy working there which makes me enjoy dining in or just picking up a quick bite to eat when I want to be lazy at home!
