Tasties Goes From Food Truck to Fine Dining in West Philly - Eater Philly

"Soul food restaurant Tasties opens this week at 1212 N. 52nd Street in West Philly, replacing a pizza shop, Pappy’s Pizza. Chef-owner Barbara Devan started Tasties as a food truck and went on to open two casual eateries with a focus on takeout, at 5241 Germantown Avenue and at 1214 N. 52nd Street, right next to the new restaurant. But unlike the other two, the new Tasties is an upscale sit-down spot with a full bar. The restaurant spans two levels, with the dining room and the bar on the first floor and a lounge upstairs. The lounge isn’t quite ready yet; it should be open in May. When the restaurant starts serving this week, look for a menu of barbecue chicken, turkey wings, ribs, and fish, all served with sides like candied yams, collard greens, and baked mac and cheese. Devan is also making a few types of pasta, seafood like mussels and sautéed crabs, and fried rice dishes. The chef is also trying her hand at weekend brunch." - Rachel Vigoda

Been here a few times. I feel different every time I come honestly. Not a fan of the ox tails. I would say my fav dish would be the lamb chops. The chicken wing dinner actually looked pretty fire but I stuck with my lamb. I def wouldn’t come here for date night but with the guys for sure.

Everything was good! Best Mac and Cheese I’ve had from a Philly soul food spot in a long time. Greens didn’t need hot sauce. Fish was fried to perfection. I will be stopping at the restaurant to enjoy the atmosphere 10/10 would order and recommend

Celebrated a 30th birthday here on a Saturday. The restaurant is located on a busy street in West Philly and there is only street parking available. The inside of the restaurant is minimally decorated but looks cute. There is limited seating but there seems to be a lounge area upstairs. The menu prices are reasonable (entrees ranged between $15-$40) We had a party of 13 people and the restaurant/ staff were accommodating. The menu is not big but has good food selections. I ordered the whiting w/ 2 sides (Mac n cheese and greens). The whiting and Mac n cheese were delicious but the greens were salty. My friend said the salmon entree was tasty and so was the the chicken and waffles. Overall a decent experience but one suggestion is the place needs a deep cleaning as the seating chairs and menus were not clean.

I ordered the turkey wings, and my husband had the oxtail and let me just say the food was delicious 😋 You really get your 💰 worth. The owner was very pleasant and down to earth, and the atmosphere was welcoming . If your looking for good soulfood in philly this is the place to go

I visited on Tuesday afternoon, I was expecting to sit down and enjoy my meal but it was take out only. Which was disappointing being from out of town. I ordered fried turkey chops, rice and gravy and greens also chicken and shrimp alfredo with broccoli. When I say that was the best turkey chop I ever had it wasn't thick and was fried and seasoned beautifully. That alfredo was great. The portions was so good that those 2 meals lasted me until the next day. When I come back to philly please have the dining room open i want to experience the whole vibe.

I don't know where to start. It should have been a red flag for me when I read the reviews, but I decided to go anyway to see for myself. My friends and I went to the trap brunch. The dj was good, but he didn't interact with the customers like we saw in previous videos on ig (this was the reason for us going). There was someone selling hookah for $40. They charge a entry fee of $20 which include 1 mimosa, not bottomless like most brunch spots. Our waitress was nice but she gave us forks and just put them on the table (please see photo below). If this is supposed to be an upscale restaurant why give the forks out the way she did. The bathroom was nasty and dirty ( I don't have pix bc I left my phone on the table). Finally, our food comes out. I ordered shrimp and grits and it was super salty. One of my friends ordered the chicken and waffles, that was very good. There were kids there with their moyhers. The kids had to be no older than 5. The waitresses were twerking and the music was explicit. One of the mothers tried to cover her childs eyes and he moved her hand. Those kid should not have been there. This should have been explained to them upon arrival. Needless to say I won't be back and I will not be referring anyone else to go there. This place is ghetto trash🗑.
