The meal was delicious, what a great addition to the Sichuan hot pot scene of Chicago! We got the half-half, with medium spicy broth and the tomato broth. The tomato broth seemed a bit flat compared to other hot pot places in the city (Haidilao or Qiao Ling), we liked the spicy broth—though will try to get the spiciest level next time! Thought it was mild but satisfied that the flavors were still delicious unlike other hot pot places where the broth could get super salty and spicy as the broth boils down.
The spicy marinated beef on skewers was flavorful, and because most of the meat entrees are on skewers, sometimes there could be shortages of skewers in the fridges before the staff takes out more skewers (takes time to prep). So when it gets busy, I can imagine the popular ones going out pretty fast—especially since the model is you take from the fridge of what’s available.
I feel the spicy broth and the marinated meats slightly lack the intense flavors as the ones I really loved back in Chengdu, especially by the same brand, and I will probably stick to my other go-to hot pot spots in the city, but if I do want some skewers in the hot pot in Chicago — this place is it!
