Jin Jian Restaurant Review - San Gabriel - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"In the same strip mall as Mian is Jin Jiang, or what everyone actually calls it, J&J. They’ve been in the same spot for 27 years, and it’s the kind of place where you’ll walk in to see your server cracking crabs at a table in the corner. In other words, it’s glorious. The dumplings and noodles are the things to eat here, especially the thick, soy-sauce covered (but still light) Shanghai Style Noodles." - Jess Basser Sanders

This place was in walking distance to our hotel and rated high so we came in for dinner. Small place but were able to get seated right away. We ordered the combo chicken and beef, white rice, pumpkin cakes and sesame noodles. The portion of the hotpot was huge and being just the 2 of us we barely finished a quarter of it. Taste was delicious however we could have easily saved alot of money if they had smaller portions. Sesame noodles were strong flavored but adding the chili paste gave it a wonderful flavor. We added the wild vermicelli to the hotpot but wasnt a fan of it. Too sticky. Pumpkin cakes were soft, buttery and loved the flavor. Service was good. We had little trouble understanding the menu and how it works however the server explained well. Bill provided was in chinese which I think should be in English so that its easier to verify the items. Its located in a busy complex but we walked so cant comment on that aspect.

Dry pot lovers, this is a hidden gem you must check out! Tasty Dining in San Gabriel serves up authentic Wuhan-style flavors with an incredible variety of griddle pot ingredients and bold, savory seasoning. Perfect for chilly weather or when you’re craving something comforting yet flavorful. We ordered a medium-sized griddle pot with our choice of proteins and veggies — super generous portions, easily feeds 3–4 people. The seasoning was on point: just the right balance of spice and numbing heat, without overpowering the ingredients. Highly recommend adding cauliflower, lotus root, and beef short ribs — they soak up the sauce beautifully. Also tried the Wuhan Hot Noodles with Sesame Sauce, and it totally hit the spot. Smooth, nutty, and just the right touch of chili oil. If you’re a fan of Dan Dan noodles, this is a must. 💡 Pro tip: Go with friends, order a mix of meats and vegetables, and prepare to leave full and satisfied. Free parking is a plus, and service was super friendly and fast! Must try: Chicken Wings, Beef Short Ribs, Hot Noodles Parking: Free and easy

Google
The restaurant is situated in a plaza, and parking can get a bit crowded on weekends. Thankfully, there’s an underground lot available. The dry pot is perfect for a family of four, featuring fresh, flavorful meats and vegetables. I love that you can customize the level of spiciness to your taste. The service is excellent—friendly and attentive. Highly recommended!

Google
These pots are customizable to satisfy any cravings. With varying spice levels and flavor options, these hot pots hit the spot. There are optional add-on items including vegetables, noodles, seafood, meat and much more. I ordered the catfish and pork ribs combo hot pot with added vegetables. The catfish pieces were soft, and the pork ribs were tender. Not too many fatty pieces. The beef chow mein and fried rice were good but nothing special. Order with a QR code through a website and food is bought out quickly.

Amazing mala xiang guo with the perfect mix of spice and flavor. Fresh ingredients, tender meat, and crisp veggies tossed in a rich, aromatic sauce. The heat and numbing sensation are addictive! Generous portions and great texture in every bite—definitely a must-try for spice lovers

Google
We ordered griddle cooked chicken pot, with potatoes, cauliflower, celery, and bean sprouts included. Two girls share one pot is enough. Would recommend order rice as the pot is kinda strong. Overall good! If you like, would recommend try frog or lamb!

The food was fantastic — we were so excited to dig in that we forgot to take a photo first. We especially loved the shrimp and chicken wings. The service was just as great — our waitress was incredibly warm and helpful. Will definitely be coming back.

My mom is picky about dry pots and she gave this place two thumbs up. I think this dry pot spot is worth trying because of the variety of fresh ingredients and the amount they give you. You can choose from non-spicy to spicy, 3 size pots, 4 flavors, and over 30 choices of protein and veggies. The price ranges from $24-$50 and we had enough to eat for two days lol. We chose the spicy and hot flavor light spicy medium size beef pot which already comes with 4 veggies and we added 5 more items to the pot. The beef surprisingly was a really good cut of beef and super tender! It was fragrant and not too oily or salty! My recommendation is to go one level less than your normal spice level and the spicy flavor is better than spicy & hot. Friendly service!

Yelp
Tasty and spicy, just how I like it. The server was amazing too. She helped explain how it works and made some suggestions on how much to get. Also, the LABUBU!!! Great vibes. A

Yelp

Yelp
Great place - spice levels are compliant with non spicy people Trust their levels Don't recommend the mala for newcomers

Yelp
Came here on a Friday night with my parents and was pleasantly surprised. I enjoy dry hot pot so I was excited to try this place out. Located in a plaza on Valley Blvd, parking can be a hassle because there are other crowded businesses using the same parking lot. Street parking is often available which is what we did yesterday. This is a spacious restaurant with plenty of seating. The vibe is very casual and relaxed. We got there at the right time because we took the last available table and everyone started lining up and writing their names down to wait. We got there at about 7:30 PM which was during the dinner rush. I scanned the QR code and ordered a medium bullfrog pot, medium pork intestine pot, wuhan noodles, 2 rices and an additional beef tripe for us. Service was kind and the waitress spoke Mandarin and English. The bullfrog and pork intestine pot comes with celery, potato, bean sprouts and cauliflower. There are additional meats and veggies that you can add onto the pots but we chose not to add anything. We were able to personalize the flavor and spice level of each pot which was nice. My parents and I enjoy eating spicy food so we opted for the medium spice with the garlic flavor. The pots were each flavorful and large in portion to be honest. Medium was a good size for 2 people but we opted to try two after speaking with the waitress haha. The wuhan noodles with sesame sauce was pretty good! The sesame sauce helped cut the spicy flavor when it became a little too much for me. I would definitely recommend to anyone who likes noodles. I don't really like rice so these noodles paired well with the very spicy dry pots. Lastly, we ordered an additional side of beef tripe which I really liked! The texture was great and the flavor was nice and spicy! This place would have been PERFECT 5/5 if they had beer! I usually enjoy drinking beer when eating super spicy dry pot. I would definitely be back! :) Notes: - They offer small pot sizes during lunch. - No beer.

Yelp
Bold flavors, perfectly spicy! Loved the balance of numbing Sichuan pepper and rich stir-fry aroma. Fresh ingredients, generous portions, and super satisfying. A must-try if you crave heat and flavor!

Yelp
This is my first time trying dry pot and it is so yummy! We ordered on the QR code and food came out pretty quick. We got the lamb pot with garlic flavor and mild spice and I added sausage and gluten. The only issue I had was with the gluten which was still undercooked and chewy but everything else was tasty. The sesame noodle was also really good. The sauce is nice and nutty after mixing thoroughly. Love the pickled green beans on it as well, I wish there was a little spice in it but that's okay. Restaurant is clean and service is good. There's plenty of underground parking in the plaza and just a short walking distance to Molly tea or chicha

Yelp
烤鱼很不错!go oo oo ooooo ooood taste as always ! We ordered the roasted fish!it was a large plate, super good for two people

Yelp
Enjoy the best authentic and delicious Chinese at Tasty Dining in San Gabriel. They serve whole fish griddle! I tried their spicy sauce and it was flavorful. The pork feet were perfectly cooked. My brother loved their shrimp griddle with veggies. Tasty Dining is your number 1 destination for comfort food. What I got: -Beef chow mein -fish griddle -lunch menu: shrimp griddle -lunch menu: pork feet griddle -white rice -Diet Coke

Yelp
Meat & Veggie Mountain I created and experienced an ultimate meat and veggie mountain at Tasty Dining in San Gabriel, CA. Tasty Dining specializes in Chinese Dry Hot Pot where you can select spicy, mala or non spicy sauces such as their garlic sauce and pick what proteins, seafood, veggies or noodles. This savory garlic sauce exceeded my expectations in flavor and how it coats all the protein and veggies I selected. I practically all the proteins which included beef short ribs, chicken wings, sausage, pork belly and fish tofu. FYI dry hot pot is meant for sharing, Veronica was available to help me eat this giant mountain of deliciousness! Service and ambiance is pretty standard to the Chinese restaurants in the area. If ya ever feel like eating a mountain of delicious stir fry of just a ton of meat and veggies, consider Tasty Dining. Visual review: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DIiGUAzxqQr/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==

Yelp
The food was excellent, and the meal is freshly prepared. The music ambience is great and the staff members are friendly . Parking is convenient and lots of spaces to choose.

Yelp
Dry pot is now my new obsession! We ordered the large fish and short rib dry pot with garlic sauce. Flavor was excellent and it was not too spicy (we picked mild). All pots can be customized to your liking. You pick the size, protein, toppings, sauce type, and spice level. Service is pleasant. You can order via QR code on the table. I loved everything about this and already looking forward to coming back soon.
google avatar

Airi G.

Yelp
I underestimated their definition of "master large size" because the three of us barely made a dent in the food. The dry pot is very customizable which is nice because you can each have your own small one or just get one and have it family-style. We ordered the griddle cooked beef and beef ox tripe combo and various toppings: napa cabbage, taro, fresh bamboo shoots, king oyster mushroom, frozen tofu, wild vermicelli, dried bean curd sheets, and Shuanghui sausage. We chose the spicy flavor and got medium spicy. I don't regret the spice level but it's not for the weak because they mean it. I would personally opt for mild next time so I don't need to take a break every few bites. That said, the food was delicious. The meat was so tender and flavorful and every single item was coated well in the sauce. It's also over a heat source the whole time so it stays piping hot if you mix it up. Also, don't skip out on the pumpkin cakes. I heard that they were good so I ordered them skeptically but it was so addicting that I kept eating more. It has a crispy outer shell from being fried but the inside is mochi-like so it has a chewy texture. It was pretty empty on a Monday night so they seated us right away and there's plenty of parking in the underground structure.

Yelp
Tasty Dining in San Gabriel is our family's regular haunt--we pop in every few days. We always order at least two portions; the small size never satisfies us, so we start at medium!

Yelp
Dry hot pot was all the craze in 2015 but I feel like a lot of them have closed down since COVID. I'm so glad tasty dining is still open and going strong. There's 7-8 tables inside this small establishment but the minute you step in your help with the warmest welcome by the owner. She immediately sat us down and we ordered with the QR code on each table. Food was out in 5 minutes. My favorite is the beef spicy pot. You choose from medium or large upgradd for 11 dollars extra. Medium is more than enough for 2 in my opinion. There's 5 different types of spices you can choose from and I went with the traditional spicy, which has a more richness to the spices. You can of course dial up or down the spice level according to your preferences. The pots come with potatoes, celery, cauliflower, and bean sprouts. There's so much add ons that you can put into your pot from their endless choices. They even have it separated in categories to make it easier for you. Different categories include vegetables, meatballs, Mushrooms, and tofu. You can even add an entire meat choice in your existing order if you would like. It's entirely customizable which is another perk. Definitely recommend that you try if you haven't!

Yelp
Tasty Dining is one of my favorite spots to revisit anytime I am back in the 626. They specialize in Chinese dry pot, which is kind of like a mix between stir fry and hotpot. The best part is the meal is fully customizable!! You pick your sauce, spice level, dry pot size, base and toppings!! I've been here several times with my mom and family. We always order the garlic sauce and get mild or non-spicy depending on our mood. This past visit, we got their griddle cooked beef short rib combo with fish and griddle cooked chicken cartilage (my personal favorite) with spam, noodle, mushroom and rice cake add-on. All griddle pots come with bean sprouts, cauliflower, potatoes, and celery. The portions are quite big and can be taken to go!! The food is always packed with flavor and I love the variety of texture/items in the dish. The chicken cartilage was crunchy, while the fish filet is tender. The beef short rib was a bit chewy for me though. In addition to good food, their prices are fair (around $20-$30 per person) and they also have lunch special where you can order a small size pot! The staff is also super friendly!! They also have lots of seating. This is a must try in the 626.

Yelp
This may be an unpopular opinion, but I prefer dry pot over hot pot, especially during these cold months and seasons. Come to Tasty Dining in San Gabriel, California, where the flavors of Wuhan, China, are translated into a delicious griddle pot with customizable proteins, vegetables, noodles and so much more. We got the medium sized pot and it was enough to feed 4- very generous portions here. If you're a fan of Dan Dan Noodles, you will love @tastydiningyipinxiang 's Wuhan Hot Noodles with Sesame Sauce We had: Wuhan Hot Noodles with Sesame Sauce, Griddle Pot with customized proteins, vegetables & other ingredients

Yelp
This was my second time dining here but this time with a group. Their menu was a little bit confusing to understand but figured it out anyways. Got the combo beef and chicken, added some sides. We didn't know it came with some veggies already which was amazing! Flavors were soooo good and was not at all greasy. Will definitely be back!

Changfan L.

Yelp
Didn't have hot pot for a long time. And really enjoy the hot pot at this place. The environment is clean and comfortable. The food is of course great. The service is also very good. Will come back again

Yelp
the beef tastes really yum! We ordered the food though QR code, and it served really quick and well! The atmosphere is good and clean, it is joyful to have a dinner with AC on

Yelp
Never left a review for here before but tonight I'm pretty stuffed while my wife nibbles away. She's been craving this for a while. Tonight we decided to add a kimchi fried rice to our normal hot pot griddle (chicken and bull frog for our meats). Nice place on a Saturday night! Staff was attentive (lots of water refills). Food was yummy. Placed was packed!
google avatar

Yelp
Just like the name suggests, the food here is amazing. Every dish was packed with flavor and clearly made with care. On top of that, the service was excellent -- friendly, attentive, and fast. From the first bite to the last, everything exceeded my expectations. I genuinely loved every bite and can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Lilian Z.

Yelp
We had a dry hot pot with chicken wings and pork intestines, cooked to a mild spicy level. The hot pot came with bean sprouts, celery, potatoes, and cauliflower. We also added extras like tofu slices, glass noodles, dried bean curd sticks, and duck blood. The flavors were rich and well-seasoned--highly recommend!
google avatar

Cecilia Z.

Yelp
I've been here multiple times and the food here never disappoints! Would definitely recommend recommended for a family and friends gathering.
google avatar

Yelp
Authentic food! Good service! Would recommend it to anyone who's in the area and come stop for a spicy Chinese food.
google avatar

Ruby Z.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! The flavors were bold and authentic, and the stir-fried dishes were perfectly done -- dry and flavorful without being greasy, just the way they should be. Everything was cooked to perfection, and you can really taste the quality ingredients. Friendly staff, fast service, and a clean, comfortable atmosphere. Highly recommend and will definitely be coming back!
google avatar

Geng E.

Yelp
Good food! Good services! Xiangguo is great, will come next time. Family friendly and once again great service!
google avatar

Grace C.

Yelp
Service is good, they check up on us from time to time and refill waters. We ordered mild spicy dry pot with frog and it was too spicy for our liking so the server took it back to the kitchen and told the chef to remake it which was surprising. We also ordered a pumpkin cake appetizer. It was very chewy and qq, had similar texture like mochi. The dry pot pairs really well with rice. Would come again and try their other dry pot with a different protein!

Natalie W.

Yelp
Good service & good food! We ordered beef & bull frog and squid + chicken wings. Loved the taste and lots of things in the pot.
google avatar

Matthew T.

Yelp
Good flavors and nice ambiance. Food comes served on top of a heated plate. Nice spice levels. Pumpkin pastry was chewy and crispy. Waitress was attentive and answered our questions well. Also checked in to make sure the spice level was to our liking. Parking is in the plaza and underground structure.

Yelp
Delicious and tasty indeed. This is not the place for the faint of heart. The dish is spicy but packed full of deliciousness and flavor. If you are into to try new things and very spicy this is the place for you. Will definitely visit again!
google avatar

Brian C.

Yelp
Tasty indeed The menu could be confusing if it's your first time You can either go with your favorite meat Or they have premade combos We went with lamb and fish which is their basic combo super tasty! pretty big portion we both had leftovers we chose medium I think... I forgot would go back for another topping definitely should bring more people too You have the options to add more toppings but whatever it comes with is pretty good already They offer soju too I think its good drinking food not sure how the night scene is like

Livia Y.

Yelp
Authentic Dry Pot! We ordered a medium pot and it was a HUGE portion, enough for 3 people to share. Many many meat options available served with various veggies!
google avatar

Yvonne B.

Yelp
I've never had dry hot pot before, but thank you Tasty Dining for this delicious introduction! Their pots come in different sizes with so many protein options. the staff walked us through what they offer. For two people, they recommended the medium size one, but it was still pretty big and filling. For the base, we got the garlic sauce with beef tripe and cabbage! They cook it using a Sichuan stir fry method and it was super flavorful. The staff mostly speak Mandarin and a bit of English. If you love Sichuan spice and bold flavors, this is the spot for you!
google avatar

Dorothy L.

Yelp
Everything is amazins, they serve well, come with fresh food, taste good, the ppl here are very friendly. You will feel like home here. I come with my friend second time, and will be back again.
google avatar

Yvonne C.

Yelp
Cleanliness of the place? I would give it 1 star. They seated me by the front entrance so I saw the chefs going to smoke left and right. Not sure if they wash their hands or not after. But the food was phenomenal. You pick all your add ons for the dry pot and you pick the sauce as well. There's so much variety. We got sour and spicy sauce and it was delicious!! Their portion size is very generous too. You have to order the rice separately which we forgot to order and the waiter came to let us know. Very attentive and answered some questions that we had.

Gene S.

Yelp
Love the frog and tendon combination! Food is served quick as well. Comes with good service!

Yelp
We haven't had a chance to come back as often as we'd like since my last review, but we're so glad we did. The food tasted as delicious as we remembered. One big change the restaurant has gone through is that you now order through a virtual menu by scanning a QR code on the table. Once you submit the order, it will print out for the servers to bring to the kitchen. We ordered a medium sized pot, spicy flavor, medium spicy level with fish fillet. We added on taro, corn, wide noodles, and a bowl of rice. I enjoyed this very much! It goes very well with a bowl of rice as it mixes well with the spiciness of the pot. Beware of the spicy level! I would say I'm someone who enjoys very spicy foods and this one was at a good level for me. However, it was a bit too spicy for my wife. If you're someone who can't handle as much spice, I would recommend starting off with mild. The pot already comes with potato, cauliflower, bean sprouts, and celery. You can add on any additional vegetables, meat, and sides for additional cost. Overall, everything was good! We hope we can come back more often! If you haven't tried this place yet, definitely stop by and enjoy their delicious dry pot full of flavor!

Yelp
My friend recommended this place, never regretted it! Great service here!!! Great food! Will definitely visit next time!!!!
google avatar

Anita L.

Yelp
Each dish was flavorful and perfectly cooked! The Bullfrog and Pork Ribs were tender and savory, while the Chicken Wing and Squid had a great texture. The Noodles with Sesame Sauce were rich and thick. You'll be ordering via a QR code on the table, which is super convenient. We got their Master Large Size for both our main dishes, which was perfect for 4 hungry people. Be mindful of the spice levels - medium spice was perfect for me, but might be too much for those who prefer milder flavors.
google avatar

Selina H.

Yelp
Love this place for some dry pot! My friends and I love getting the fish fillet and beef as our proteins. We also always add spam and chewy yam noodles. A medium size feeds 3-4 people depending on how hungry you are. We usually get either mild or medium spicy but beware the medium is pretty spicy! I like that it comes with veggies and potatoes already to balance out the richness of the pot. You'll definitely need some rice to go with the spice. The service here is always nice and friendly :)

Yuting X.

Yelp
The food was super tasty and full of flavor -- everything we ordered was spot on. The service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Highly recommend this place. Will definitely come back!

Ken H.

Yelp
Had to recommend the beef and Thai chicken! Dishes came out real quick and mild spicy was just on spot.

Wei H.

Yelp
Nice food and best services! Will come back!!! Every dish we ordered was full of flavor and beautifully presented. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. The ambiance was charming, making it the perfect place for a relaxing meal.

Derek L.

Yelp
A fantastic spot for griddle-cooked Chinese comfort food with a kick. I ordered the large spice and hot griddle with beef short rib and chicken cartilage--both tender and flavorful. The dish comes generously portioned with potatoes, celery, cauliflower, and soybean sprouts, soaking up all the bold spices. Don't miss the fresh-squeezed orange juice (buy one, get the second half-off--it's a win). The interior has a clean, modern vibe, with Chinese pop music adding energy. Great service and perfect for small group hangs. Definitely coming back!
google avatar

Yelp
Great food and great taste! I ordered the beef and frog combo, definitely would recommend it!
