London’s Best Chinese Takeaway | The Best Chinese Restaurants in London | Eater London

"There are two versions of Camberwell: one where Silk Road is its destination Chinese restaurant, and the other where it’s Tasty House. Like the Kosher Chinese restaurants of Golders Green, this takeaway on Denmark Hill is a testament to the ability of Chinese cuisine to mould itself round the tastes of a local community — in this case a predominantly working class, predominantly West African clientele. Its reputation is built off the back off burnished fried rice dishes, whose fugitive notes of wok smoke shares DNA with Ghanaian jollof, while all orders can be customised to levels of spiciness and porkiness. The menu has one truly outstanding dish difficult to get elsewhere in London: the salt and pepper chips, tanned in the fryer then stir fried with onions and chilli. —JN" - Jonathan Nunn

The Best Restaurants in Camberwell, South East London | Eater London

"When talking about restaurants and their importance to communities, it’s easy to lose sight of the fact that people don’t just want the same food over and over again. Cities are not just a place for faithful recreations, they are also where unexpected symbiotic relationships may occur. Like the Kosher Chinese restaurants of Golders Green, Tasty House, an inconspicuous takeaway on Denmark Hill, is a testament to the ability of Chinese cuisine to mould itself round the tastes of a local community — list it alongside 805, Enish, First Choice and The Happening Bagel Bakery as a pillar of Black London eats. Its reputation is built off the back of burnished fried rice dishes, whose fugitive notes of wok hei shares DNA with party jollof, while all orders can be customised to levels of spiciness and ─ crucially for those on their deen ─ porkiness. The menu has one truly outstanding dish difficult to get elsewhere in London: the salt and pepper chips, tanned in the fryer then stir fried with onions and chilli." - Jonathan Nunn

DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!! THIS IS THE WORST CHINESE TAKEAWAY IN LONDON !!!! After ordering what was supposed to be ‘sweet and sour chicken’ I received what looked like deep fried chicken meatballs that were stone cold and god knows what sweet and sour sauce they bought but it was inedible. The ‘duck spring rolls’ were burnt and black inside! The salt and pepper chicken was the driest thing I have tasted in my life even a drink didn’t help it go down. Do not even let me get started on the beef chowmein there was this jelly like film all over the beef! After complaining they were extremely rude on the phone and adamant that it was just me. Once again, NEVER COME TO THIS RESTAURANT

This place used to be good, ages ago, and probably under different management. Been here today and have spent well over £35 for some salt and pepper squid, sweet sour chicken and szechuan chicken (which I beg, please do not order). The meals were overall ok, apart of the Szechuan Chicken, absolutely disgraceful and the texture was almost like raw chicken.. uneatable. The service, no comment. The lady that took our order was rude and unprofessional, wasn’t paying attention to what we have even tried to order in the first place. I asked for the food not to be spicy, but it was extremely hot. Not sure what happened to this place but will no longer visit surely. Hopefully no food poisoning tomorrow after the order we got today.

Excellent food and great service. Authentic Chinese dishes makes me come back for more. Owners have redecorated. Very busy which is a good sign.

When I was younger this was my go to however I haven’t been there in a while I just ordered food from here and it was so disgusting. Everything tasted stale like it was cooked days ago. The prawns were tough, the rice was tough, the chicken had a funny taste. Just absolutely disgusting will never return

Very impressed with the roast duck I had today with fry rice and bbq sauce! It was cooked to perfection!

I’ve been buying from tasty house intermittently over more than 11 years - always getting the same dish: Singapore fried rice. It’s one of the best takeaway Chinese restaurants that I’ve ever been too. Their food is consistently tasty and well portioned. Would happily travel across the other side of the river where I live to buy tasty house. I’m looking forward to them opening their east London branch one day 👀

I was well impressed with this place. The staff here are so friendly it was so refreshing. I found the lady behind the counter to be quite charming. Food is delicious! I was recommended by all the nurses at kings college hospital that this is the place to order from if you want a chinese. Needless to say I was not disappointed!☺

Anything but Tasty House! The chicken was extremely DRY, the noddles tasted awful, and the chips were clearly old and refried—the whole meal was just thrown together. Honestly, I’ve had better from a microwave meal. Not worth the money or the calories.

Yelp
I think the 2 bad reviews are from their jealous competitors. This place is very friendly and welcoming. The rice is just what i've been looking for - for so long. The classic dark brown delicious chinese rice. love it!

Yelp
This slow Chinese takeaway, yes slow, is actually allowed to be at its slow pace because its food is cooked to perfection. On home delivery you could wait up to an hour, but trust me, it is well worth it. The usual traditional Chinese dishes and a few extras. Possibly the best chicken Chinese balls in London. Not your usual dough battered balls, more like a crispy seasoned chicken strip/dipper (soooo, yummy, I get them each time). Portions are huge and a large meal will set you back under £4! The staff are really friendly whether its in person or by the phone and they will accommodate to your dietary needs.

Yelp
DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE! Their customer service is appalling. Very rude and arrogant staff! Last week I ordered special fried rice and travelled 30mins to pick it up, when I returned home I found strands of hair in my food, I spoke to a member of staff who seemed totally unsympathetic , I was told that I had to come back with the food in order for the matter to be resolved. Poor! They should be trained on the importance of customer service
