Tasty Island Jamaican Restaurant

I ordered oxtails dinner and jerk chicken. When I got how the food was nasty and tasted old. I didn’t get the food. They have a sign saying no refund or exchange because they know they serving old nasty food. Please do not take your business to them. The oxtails is 28 something dollars and the portion was little baby size crazy.

We tried here before and had a good experience, but today was disappointing. I ordered a combination of jerk chicken and brown stew chicken, while my husband chose an oxtail and jerk chicken plus 2 patties. It was about $70. Unfortunately, the rice tasted old and hard, and the brown stew chicken was overly salty. The jerk chicken had a stale flavor and smelled like leftover meat. The oxtail was also tough and seemed old. We called the restaurant to express our concerns, and the owner spoke to my husband. He mentioned that they had cooked the food this morning, which worried me because it raised concerns about the quality of the chicken. I cannot recommend this restaurant until the freshness of its food is improved.

Bless up the chef! This is a small authentic Jamaicans mom & pops shop. They give you that home cooked feeling. Made with love! I’ve tried most if not all of their menu. Best Curry chicken and Oxtails, both are delicious and not spicy. Jerk chicken is spicy kick! They’re A bit Pricey but well worth it being for filled with heavy food. Great portions , enough leftovers for a snack later. Try the lunch special if available. Call in your orders as to restrictions prevent dinning. Great Patties, my favorite is veggie patties. D&G KOLA champagne is always ice cold! If the prices go any higher, I’ll probably have to cook it myself. Perhaps they did not like the service. I called in my order for pick up. The person who answered sounded like I had woken him up. When I came to pick up the person who helped me was kind enough but did not seem like he wanted to be there. I ordered a side of jerk wings and the small curry chicken plate. The plate comes with the entree, rice and peas, steamed cabbage and fried plantain. The wings were tender and had a smoky flavor but that sauce they put on it was overpowering and not very good. The curry chicken was tender and throughly cooked but lacked the complex flavor that I have come to expect from Jamaican/Island curry. The rice and peas were just OK, as was the plain rain and cabbage. My total was $23.90. I through the food out.

Hmm I wasn't going to leave a review because I felt like why bother since it was similar to the other ones but. 🤔We ordered 2 jerk chicken dinners and plantains. I swear we had 1 bite of our dinner and walked out. Left the food right on the table that just cost 60 bucks. Sauce horrible rice was hard chicken definitely didn't taste like jerk extremely disappointed. I swear almost felt like we was bothering them for coming.

This place is NOT good at all. I drove by multiple times and I decided to stop by and it was BAD. Walked in and wasn’t greeted at all. Seen 2 ppl sitting in the far right back corner and they didn’t say anything for about maybe 3 mins. The lady gets up and ask what we getting😳. We stayed because we were really hungry. We ordered and it went from bad to ALL BAD smh. The food was like days old food. The fried jack, festival, and chicken patty was old, hard, and dry dry. The jerk sauce was had cook flavoring but you can tell the chicken was old old. Vegetables had no flavor. Rice dry had to use jerk sauce to eat. No refunds or returns and now we know why. Definitely needs to shut down and start over. I hate doing bad reviews but avoid this place.

Combo - jerk chicken/curry goat I am embarrassed as a Jamaican to say, this is the worst jerk chicken I've ever had. People you cant mess up an icon dish that every man, woman and child wants to sample in and outside our country? From the voices coming out of the kitchen, a yardie a preparing these dishes. People, the chicken was not seasoned. It was coated with browning and soya sauce and thrown in the oven to be baked. That's not jerk chicken. The rice and peas that were served was spicy. But again, no where near to what the average Jamaican restaurant would serve for that taste of Jamaica. The curry goat was probably the only dish that was acceptable to any average Jamaican who knows their food. Our country and it's colors hold such great expectations for visitors and individuals who visit and want to taste our food all over the world. Please live up to the expectations of your colleagues back home and internationally within the kitchen. Mr Parri Jamaica.

"I bought just a side of jerk wings and rice and peas. The customer service was absolutely distasteful, just like their food. The old owner with glasses told me that if I didn’t like the food, I shouldn’t buy it again, I gave back the food and there was no refund or item exchange. The rice was dry and old as a brick, and the wings were awful with too much Lea & Perrins sauce." I ordered the chicken/chicken Combo large 6/10 "not enough meat" 2/4 more pieces great flavor on the curry chicken,I'm happy I got my sauce on the side for the jerk to add to the spicy it's very spicy !!! ,Oxtail plate large 8/10 great flavors &tender too much rice more meat &Sauce 2 beef patties 7/10 Service -5/10 I never been there and I'm not Jamaican help me out !!! The person that was helping me was very quiet seeing how there wasn't that much business talk to me make me feel like you want my money. I almost left because of the vibes but I understand so people have their days . I cook, I love food ,make me feel like I'm family. this place has potential ,but needs a A major reset. The lack of Customer Service and the "NO RETURNS OR EXCHANGES" sign in the window should have reduced my expectations and I should have read yelp reviews before ordering. 1.The Jerk Chicken & Sauce tasted like a vinegar based marinade. Not tasty 2. Veggies are not seasoned. 3. Peas & Rice were hard and dry aka OLD. 4. Chicken Patty soggy and had an overpowering sage flavor. It also didn't taste fresh. 5. Festival was very dry and Hard. Literally inedible.

Super disappointed. The oxtail was literally all fat with almost no meat, and the chicken was over-seasoned and dry. Total waste of money.. will not be returning.

Listen: Today was my first time going, I was craving some Jamaican food so I Googled Jamaican food near me. I kept telling the person serving me I love plantains and I asked him; how many come with my meal. He said 3 and I kept telling him that really needs to make sure. I get home and HE puts in one. REALLY?! WTF! Won't be going back, I'll go to a Soul Food place next time. OH and the rice was dry and so was the Ox Tails. If you go, check it before you leave.

First I would like to say this is the worst Jamaican food in the city The service and the food are shitty and not only that they are taxing for food they don't even make fresh daily not only that but the flavor isnt there my food looked cold the guy at the counter was short and dry and they never gave me my drink I paid for. Jamaican vybz is way better they just in the opposite side of town. Bring back real carribean food! This is the last time I support this bad business

Guy manning the register was a bit stand offish but it was towards the end of the day so I get it. Overall the food was bomb! Ordered to go with some oxtails, a side of jerk wings three chicken pattys and of course... you gotta do the ginger beer soda... I'll be back for the curry and fried fish for sure

A really great vibrant spot to eat and have a conversation with friends ..I recommended eating the oxtails and jerk chicken it is great..the service is great. Imma end it with The relaxed ambience of Tasty Island is definitely popular with guest that's been coming in for years...see ya soon

Me and my wife love this spot we been eating here for 5 years never had a problem ,never git sick , always felt welcomed and we always brought a new friend with us to try them everytime and they still buying food from them ........... continue to be great and we will def keep coming to eat if I could give 10 stars I would... Customer service is horrible. Was not greeted. I felt like an inmate with all the barriers between the front door and the actual restaurant where there is crowded seating. I decided not to order as the cashier did not make me feel welcome.

Old food and nasty made me sick to my stomach after trying to eat the oxtail smh ‍. Not able to get a refund or exchange. Now I know why, they serve old food.

It was delicious an the ox tails had more then enough meat on it. I loved the way the goat curry tasted as well. I also tried the rum punch which definitely had a kick. I mean punch. 9/10 would recommend

I visited this establishment today and will never go back (I've been before). The worker was eating ( sucking the fux out of corn on the cob). Came to the counter to take the order. Took the $ and made the order all w/o washing this hands after eating. On top of that I wanted a chicken patty..he stated " I don't have anymore but I may have 1". Get half way home and it's a beef patty. Had to go back and let the owner know that he did not was his hands b 4 serving. He wants to demonstrate how it was pick up but not with his bare hands but yet his thumb and index finger was still inside the bag...needless to say I'm no longer interested in this place ..eeewwww!!!

The service here was quick and efficient, the food was delicious, I had the oxtail plate and it was the perfect blend of spicy sweet and savory flavors. Definitely recommend.

Ohh my goodness this place is amazing and I enjoyed every single bite. Yummmm delicious. I loved the Bob Marley theme. The service was very nice. I will be back.

DON'T EAT HERE! I should have listened to my first mind when I got out of my car and seen rice and peas vomit in the parking stall next to my car. Upon entering they only allow 2 people in for ordering. The man taking orders doesn't even greet you when you get to the counter. I thought he was busy because he stared at me and looked away. So I just stood there. Then after a few minutes I asked him are you waiting for me to order? He replied "Yes". I'm used to being greeted at establishments. I ordered a veggie plate which was cabbage mix of cabbage, carrots, corn and bell pepper. There was no seasoning. It was just bland. It also came with rice and peas and a hush puppy. The rice and peas was bland and full of pepper. Nothing else! The food here is TERRIBLE! If a veggie plate as bad I don't want to try anything else. All I can say about this place is YUCK!

I should have read the reviews. Ate here for the first time we ordered Jerk Chicken & Oxtail ordered in Large. I would not recommend this place first for portions Oxtail Large Plate (1 piece of oxtail cut to 4's); Jerk Chicken is not jerk Chicken. I should have requested a refund right away! Food was horrible it looked like plantains were from a week ago. Second, customer service is horrible!!!

Our ancestors would be so disappointed if they tasted this garbage. Def won't be returning... Cabbage was boiled and unseasoned and Jerk chicken was weird.

The food is delicious, but I feel the owners take advantage of customers that order through UberEats or Doordash. I think this would be difficult to pull off in person. I have ordered twice from here, and both time pay the additional charge for large plates. Today was the second time I ordered (and will be the last). I ordered a "large" oxtail and "large" curry goat. I promise you, I only got 4 pieces of meat on both plates. This is so disappointing and unfortunately for them, they have lost a loyal customer. And for reference, it's not inexpensive to eat here, but always willing to pay when I find a business that cares about their customers.

The curry chicken tasted great and was moist. Two medium sized breast pieces, and lots of tasty sauce. The rice and peas was good too. My friend had the jerk pork and said it was so spicy he had a hard time eating it. They charged a 15% free for dine in. But we still had to pickup out food from the counter and bus our own tables so not sure why there is a fee since the food is still served in take out containers. Over half of the tables had the owners stuff on it so we had to sit on a small table on the side. I'd recommend just doing take out.

The chicken itself was tasty but a bit too spicy for me. The plate was mostly rice and then some chicken. You're paying for 65% rice and 35% chicken. I think the food portions could be better distributed and I honestly don't know if I would return here.

A coworker sent me to this place for the jerk sauce. I didn't know it was a restaurant, so I dined in. I had oxtails and jerk chicken. It came with steamed veggies and red beans with rice. I was in heaven. I highly recommend this place. I am a cook myself and this place was slapping. They had an inspection from the health dept around the same time as my place and we both got our A rating. I will be back.

I do recommend this place . All the flavors were there and the service was 9.5 I just paid 25$ for oxtail and I got 5/6 very small pieces. The end of the oxtail . That was disappointing and I wish the gravy was darker.

Ordered two beef pattys to go. They were dry and flat and honestly didn't seem like they were home made. Dollar tree has better ones in the freezer section. Wouldn't recommend.

I don't know why there are so many bad reviews lol I loved the food. I had the jerk chicken and beef patties . They were delicious. Can the staff sometimes have attitudes yes but that's the culture. As long as the food was great I'm happy.

Where do I start. They definitely need to work on their customer service skills. They are very rude and upon arriving to pick my order up I wanted to walk out. But since I already placed the order I tried to give it another chance. They are very adamant about mask; everyone has to wear them. The food. We ordered brown stew chicken, jerk chicken and ox tails. Brown stew chicken was super dry and over cooked with a lot of bones The jerk chicken had good flavor but was over cooked. The ox tails seemed to be all bones no meat. Lack of flavor and no gravy. The rice was good. The vegetables were horrible. Literally steamed cabbage with no seasoning. Overall experience I won't be back.

People complain about poor customer service, but I honestly think that's just Jamaican culture. The service isn't the greatest but I always get the oxtails and they are amazing tender and buttery fall right off the bone. I don't like the vegetables at all they're not seasoned but the oxtails the curry chicken is top-tier.

I thought I reviewed this place two years ago. They probably got it taken down. The man taking the order is rude. He tells you to stand outside while he's preparing the food. They have stuff all over the dining table and tables boxing the entrance in so you can't sit. It's really a mess. Ah my review is still here but you think they would get better why we the bad review and no!

I always get the curry chicken it never disappoints! I enjoy Both beef patties and chicken patties. Family owned and operated. They are always kind and polite. Ive been coming here over 20 years! Even the one in Inglewood.

What a rip off. They over charge for their oxtail and then it was all bones. I can not believe we were just told by the "owner" pop that's how it is. I explained that for the amount of meat we were given to the price we paid was Ludacris he pretty much said too bad. Good luck if you go here. Hopefully they treat their customers better than they did us

This is not authentic Jamaican jerk. At least not what I've come to expect. I've eaten jerk in major cites like Chicago, Detroit, DC.... This was the worst I ever had. Salty tasted like soy sauce more than anything else. The meat was dry to the point I thought I was given an old order. Chicken thighs don't generally dry out after cooking. The peas and rice had maybe five beans in it, the rice itself was dry and the texture was more like fried rice. Also the callaloo was not authentic, it was cabbage with a few mixed vegetables. I am beyond disappointed and usually try to give every restaurant I eat from a fair shot. But this, this is not ok. Save your money and try a different Jerk location. I haven't tried any others in Vegas, but I will soon. All I know is if you love super salty dry and badly done meals. Eat here. Bon apatite

The oxtail has NO TASTE WHAT SO EVER! Please please go to Jamaican Vybez or even Paradiae before this place. Their food is just so dry and tasteless. Lots of BONES smh

Customer service , horrible . It's like they are being forced to stay open. They don't wanna work they don't wanna talk to you they don't wanna explain anything. They wanna charge for jerk sauce when you get jerk chicken. I have always ALWAYS had jerk sauce included. Atmosphere, bad. Looks dirty and old and dusty. They look closed down so I was surprised when they were actually open one day. Not to my surprise , it was not a pleasant visit. I will take my money elsewhere.

The worst Jamaican food I've ever had. Rice and peas was old. Chicken was dry and over cooked. They doused the food in sauce and it was so bad. I took two bites and got sick $32 wasted !!!!! I called to speak to them and the man said "lady I can't help It if u don't like it. This the best u can get." I said absolutely not. He said he doesn't have an email or website to send him the pictures of the shitty food. This place is garbage... from the food to the service. I'd rather just go to McDonald's.

I waited outside for my food for 30 minutes. After realizing no one was coming to get me, i had went inside. My food was sitting behind the counter. No one had informed me about my food after being told to wait outside. The foods presentation was sloppy and embarassing. Sauce spilled everywhere packaging damaged. And this was just dinning in. Imagine getting delivery. I was so excited to experience jamaican food for the first time but was left with disappointment. When thinking jamaican food, give this place a pass.

I was hopeful as the outdoor of the restaurant gave me the vibes of Jamaica. But my hopes died after the 40 minute wait time after being initially told of the 15 minutes with no communication, that's when I got concerned. I ordered a large oxtail with jerk chicken, brown stew chicken, small jerk chicken and a side of callalou. The price was just over $74.00. When we got home with the food and I opened it I had three small pieces of the oxtails and two pieces of the jerk chicken. At first bite, the rice that came with was full of black pepper, and no real flavor but salt. The jerk chicken was dry, prepared much earlier that day and tasted like liquid smoke, it had no real authentic jerk taste at all, plus the sauce was salty. The three small oxtails given had no taste but a little salt, it wasn't the luscious tender well seasoned bite I had hoped for. So my recommendation is to keep going and save your hard earned money somewhere else unless you just need something to eat after a long night of drinking because you won't remember the food the next day.

Last week I ordered Oxtails and was so happy with the amount and flavor, OMG. This Friday I ordered two and both with no flavor at all lots of rice no flavor and 4 oxtails with no flavor.

We found this place while at the sprouts next door. Sooooooo haaaapppyyyy we get went in to give it a try. The lady was really sweet and caring. We tried the beef and chicken patties! They were on point. My fiancé tried the ox tail and he LOVED it. Next time we visit we are definitely coming back.

The food was garbage to start with, I'm visiting from New York, so I decided to try a Jamaican spot "just to support the culture and business" worst decision ever. If you're not Jamaica or Caribbean you wouldn't know better BUT THIS IS NOT AUTHENTIC JAMAICAN DISHES. Don't waste your time or money. I ordered white rice and got stale rice and peas which tasted like it was cooked and reheated from the day before. The curry was nasty, these people are robbing these locals here in Vegas, the stew chicken was mainly tomato sauce and black pepper omg and the jerk chicken was just regular baked chicken with bottled jerk sauce tht u could easily pick up from a Caribbean store. The only thing authentic about this store were the Jamaican sodas. Don't waste your energy guys

OMG ! My wife is Canadian and has a real love for Caribbean cuisine , so we FINALLY got around to trying this restaurant a mere 1.5 miles Fron our house . We are both absolutely loving it ! Her jerk chicken is HUGE ( and it's only a small ?! The large must feed a small village ) and beyond tasty ! My chicken Patties are like chicken soup wrapped in a flaky , warm shell . We are in love . Would absolutely recommend to any and everyone , and can guarantee we'll be back often ( possibly tomorrow , I ate all my Pattie's and the wife wants more ) The staff were very friendly , the service was fast as heck and the restaurant made me want to stay in and enjoy the mom & pop ambiance and character . Love this place. Always tasty, fresh and the Pattie's are so delicious reminds me of the Jamaican food I would eat on the east coast.

Food/Drink: So today I ordered the Brown Stewed Chicken plate with rice, peas, and cabbage. The sauce was good and you could taste the herbs in the stew but the chicken was somewhat dry and hard. The cabbage along with the peas and rice I have to say was flavorful yet it did not sit well with me that the food was not made fresh and was served to me one minute after I sat down. Service: To start, my plate was $14 and I put down $3 up front on the bill hoping that some sort of decent tip would get me some decent service. Throughout my whole experience not only was I not offered water (which I had to ask for) noone came and waited on me after initially sitting down and receiving my food, noone came by to check to see if my food was okay, and noone came by to refill my water. I found it interesting that I sat there ready for a whole dine-in experience while eating from a Styrofoam plate (so I'm sure the food was zapped in the microwave!). Also, the hot sauce they brought out was red pepper and not scotch bonnet which surprised me since normally scotch bonnet sauce is served at most Jamaican restaurants that I frequent. Atmosphere: Kind of dark in there and they definitely need more lighting or even more plants (it feels almost like a restaurant in an attic). Price: I truly feel that I could have gotten more for what I paid for at a small size. Parking: There is parking in front of the restaurant which is free. MY THOUGHTS?: This was my 1st time in this restaurant and will definitely be my last. This is an old restaurant from back in the days that I know my friends used to go to (who are mostly islanders) but I never gave myself the opportunity until today to go after having a craving for some Caribbean food. Being an islander myself, I know that we are usually very lively and high spirited people. I did not like the customer service or the way I was welcomed into the restaurant and served (note also, it was me and only two other customers so they definitely had the chance to focus on service while I was there). RECOMMENDATIONS: My recommendation is to go to Jerk Dat instead which is also located on the East Side. With Jerk Dat they give you good portions and not only that, the chef and his wife are super friendly. They ask you if you want to try samples of their soups when they are made fresh. They let you know up front how long the wait is because you know their food will be fresh. And every time I walk into Jerk Dat they are just very nice people always willing to serve (AND their food is good). Sorry to say but, this place lost my business being that it was my 1st time walking in and I am highly disappointed with what I experienced today.

Every single time I come here it's a sloth race ! No sense of urgency and a classic Jamaican attitude towards people which is NOT A GOOD THING! last time I'm coming here!!! No more benifit of the doubt! No more, maybe it's better, maybe they have changed. No more. The staff is rude and has no sense of urgency whatsoever ever. My grandma moves faster in her grave than these folks in here!!! I called here earlier and they answered the phone and asked thank you for calling tasty island, may I take your order. The man say I don't know the price you have to come into the store. I said , can you go find out and ask the price for me so I can place my order like you asked. He doesn't respond. I say what sense does that make for you to answer The phone and asked to take my order and when I have a question about how much it costs do you say that you do not know the prices and then hang up on me. It was as simple as them walking to the front in the 150 square-foot cubicle that they worked in and checking the new and improved electronic menu that they had from the upgraded marker board sharpie priceless menu that they used to have up which I took notice of because I have been going to them for many years on and off with great disappointment but giving the benefit of the doubt because they are "on "my people! Furthermore the lady who does the most in the entire shop while the man who sits there and does absolutely nothing except watch NBC and ABC news while eating his whatever food and talking on the phone 24 seven and the rude unprofessional and a knowledgeable staff that they just hire time and time again is showing the true colors and reflection of what tasty islands Jamaican cuisine stands for in this current date and time and sadly since the absolute pass way back since 2012 2013 to be specific. Lastly buyers Beware!!! These folks do not deserve your hard earned money to be completely honest with you there are several other Jamaican cuisine that are extremely authentic and paste a lot more better a lot much better than Casey Island that give you good customer service and great portions for the exact same or maybe just a little bit more money but it is well worth it compared to the bull crap that you have to go through when you come to taste the island. And if I made any typos it's because I was talk texting this review but hopefully everyone understand the moral of the story is overpriced Extremely ride staff who treats customers like crap snd the ARE SLOWER THAN Molasses ON a tree on a 120 degree day in Las Vegas. I have been coming to this restaurant since it opened many years ago the food wasn't that great then and I haven't eaten that is in at least 10 years are usually cook my Jamaican food myself being raised Jamaican but I decided to try tasty island again . I was standing there 10 minutes before a man asked me for my order as I began speaking he Blatantly ignored me and started talking to his mother about something else and a few minutes later a lady asked me what I wanted I was like OK that's bad customer service but anywayI had oxtails rice and peas and I purchased extra plantains few weeks ago it was actually good with a decent amount of oxtail I purchase a smallCurry goat it wasn't the best I did notice that the rice and peas was made different with hardly any peas/beans but it was fine. When I was waiting for my order the lady in front of me picking up order was checking everything and there's a few things missing a male came from the kitchen I was going through the order with the lady and I could not believe how rude he was to her! I went back the other day and the same thing happened again it took at least 10 minutes before an older lady asked me for my order I told him my order loud and clear I asked for a large oxtail rice and peas with plantain and drink and two chicken patties I waited in the small doorway for over 30 minutes sweating as I believe there's no air condition and other customers were picking up their food and once again they were checking with wrong orders the same one from before came out to the customer because her food order wasn't correct and she wanted to order the food a game that wasn't added The gentle man got rude with her and told her oh that food someone ticket my eyes got big like wow these people are rude AF the customer was waiting for her extra orders and just looked at me and rolled her eyes I slightly nodded my head when my order finally arrived I wanted to double check I asked the older lady OK this is my rice and peas oxtail's with the planting she said oh let me get you some plantain 10 minutes later they gave me my order I couldn't wait to get out I got in my car and as I was driving home I decided to eat the Patty i've never had a runny chicken patty before I was very hesitant to eat it but I was very hungry something told me to check my food when I got in the car but I was already late running late waiting in the restaurant half an hour or more ! I paid for the large ox tails and as soon as I got home to eat it I could not believe my eyes nearly $20 Basically it was all rice tiny amount of vegetable and three tiny pieces of meat and one huge bone with a little meat of the meat on one side! And one little plantain ?!?!?! I was furious I had just given them $40 and I was furious it wasn't cook the best and I was mad I didn't check the food in the car like I should've especially with there bad reputation in customer service and forgetful memory lucky though because I wouldn't been as nice as those other customers if that guy got a smart mouth with me!! So for sure I WONT ever go back there !!
