Tasty Pot - Review - Chinatown - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Tasty Pot is a new Taiwanese hot pot place in Chinatown that's all about individual servings, which makes it a promising choice for solo defrosting sessions. There are 12 different broth options to choose from, like lobster, sichuan, and stinky tofu, along with plenty of vegetable, meat, and seafood ingredients." - John Ringor

Great ambiance, quick and nice service, and yummy hot pot!! A parking lot right outside too so easy to get to. Plenty of seating in there so I don’t think there’ll be a wait. Excited to have this addition!!! Very affordable as well for a lot of food! I’ll definitely be back!

Google
you definitely get your money’s worth here. each hot pot is decently priced and comes with so much food. one order could definitely feed two people. we also ordered the calamari which was good and even received complimentary green tea. service was nice and attentive, and the food came out pretty fast. they did have some sauces at the table, but i wish they had a sauce bar so we could make a dipping sauce. overall, we had a good experience and would come back to try other hot pot flavors

It was my first time there with friends. I got the beef hot pot and I enjoyed that there was a good variety of seafood, meats, veggies. I got the non spicy soup and it still was very flavorful. The interior was fun and I enjoyed the lighting. Additional pros: easy parking

The service was outstanding. Our waitress walked us through the entire experience. She also recommended a milk teas that turned out to be absolutely delicious. I'd never tried one before, but I'm officially a fan now! Even though this is a brand-new restaurant, they're already operating like a well-oiled machine and know how to take care of their guests.

The area the restaurant is in looks like a new development area. There are many restaurants/stores along the strip. I appreciate the parking lot right across the street from the restaurant. When we walked in we were sat right away. The led lights make it bright and welcoming. The wait staff explained the menu to us and made recommendations. My friend and I had the #1 which is the beef soup. We were told this is a favorite. I got mine very spicy. They bring it out in a bowl and light the fire underneath it to keep it hot. I really appreciated that small detail. I loved the flavors of the broth. The meats inside the pot were good and weren't tough. Honestly, I wish I had got the flame spicy because I needed a little more heat. I had the passion tea and I was not disappointed. My friend had one of the milk teas. I forget which flavor but she said it was good. I will def come back.

So excited for Tasty Pot to finally open in Chicago. It's located in 88 Market in Chinatown. We got the Taiwanese Spicy noodles and you can pick the spice level and if you want rice or vermicelli noodles to go with it. We also got the popcorn chicken and brown sugar boba tea and Hokkaido milk tea. Everything was delicious. They got 3 sauces on the table. Free parking on a lot available. Service is attentive.

Google
Great casual hotpot spot!! The food is very well priced and the portions are huge! Each hotpot comes prefilled with meats and veggies, but you can add whatever spice/ other ingredients you want. Two of us shared one hotpot and it was more than enough and you can take leftovers to go! Boba priced well too! Also the service was fantastic, super quick and super helpful. Definitely recommend if you’re looking to try a new spot.

Google
Soft opening phases right now but the food was delicious ive been a fan of tasty pot since I had it in vancouver bc and boston, I prefer individual hotpots over having to order a big bowls but I am a solo eater this is such more convenient...I was able to try a little bir if everything and let me tell you they did not disappoint! I recommend the tom yum and Japanese miso food flavors ! The fried calamari appetizer was amazing! Along with the sizzling black pepper beef!

Yelp
We came in during the soft opening. The interior has a cool, almost futuristic look and feel to it. Each table has 3 sauces on it, which we mixed together to make our own dipping sauces. For the food, I got the Japanese Miso Hot Pot and my sister got the Seafood Lobster Hot Pot then we got a side of quail eggs to share. The pots come with noodles inside, and then you also get a choice of a side of rice or vermicelli noodles. I really liked the variety of items that came in each bowl, though I admit I wish there were more of certain things and that the bowls were more customizable. For instance, the pot I got typically comes with pork but I asked to sub the pork for beef and this was an upcharge despite the two meats being the same price on the menu. Overall, I think the experience was unique when compared to the Chinese hot pot and Japanese shabu shabu experiences I've had.

Yelp
I was really excited to finally see an individual hot pot spot like Tasty Pot in Chicago. They are pretty new so I think there's room for improvement. I ordered the kimchi dumpling hotpot. I love kimchi, but the soup unfortunately made the broth smell and taste a bit funky. It just didn't have that clean, tangy flavor that really good kimchi has. I also felt like the ingredients could be a bit higher quality. On the positive side, the food came out pretty quickly, which I appreciated. Lunch comes with a drink, though I felt the drinks could be sweetened a bit more. The interior was really cool with lots of neon lights, and the seating was comfortable, which made the experience more enjoyable.

Yelp
This place has such great service. We just waited a little but it was alright the ambiance inside was so nice and welly lit. The food came out in a timely manner. The hot pot was really sizzling and the clay pot rice we got was so good everything was full of flavors and there is so many options to choose from. They also have milk tea or boba and it was surprisingly good. The calamari was good as well and such a perfect meal for a cold or even warm day.

Yelp
Ambiance: 5/5 This newly renovated space is cleanly and futuristically decorated. There are lots of tables for smaller and/or larger parties. Service: 5/5 The servers are all very nice and attentive. Food: 4/5 The flavor of broth you choose will determine how much you enjoy your pot. We tried the Japanese miso, kimchi, and Thai flavor broths. Both the kimchi and miso broths were just okay, with the latter being pretty bland. They do have three sauces/ seasonings you can add to your pot to help with that. The Thai flavor pot was definitely the best of the three. It was really flavorful. We also tried the Hokkaido milk tea w salty cheese foam. It had such a delectable milky taste. So yummy! Overall, we enjoyed our meal and the prices are decent for the amount of food you get.

Yelp
I came here with my husband for lunch as apart of a complementary experience. However, I also purchased appetizers and drinks l. This review is based on that experience and dining in the restaurant. This place was recently opened and located outside 88 Asian market. Not to be confused with the hot pot establishment inside of 88 Asian Marketplace. This one allows for ordering of signature hotpot's that are cooked over flame at your table. We started with appetizers which were good quality. We ordered the popcorn chicken and calamari right through that QR code located on our table. As a side note, we found the laminated menus extremely helpful with choosing ingredients for our hotpot's. For our appetizers, we enjoyed both. No sauce really needed and an option to make this spicy. For my hot pot experience, I got the Japanese Miso with Taiwanese Cabbage,Pork Slices,Crab,Udon Noodles, Clam,Fish Fillet,King Oyster Mushroom, Kamaboko,Cuttlefish Ring,Corn,Tempura,Seaweed Knot,Zucchini,Egg,Scallion ,Pork bone soup add Carrots. I was able to remove the two types of tofu, roe fish and fishballs. All in all it was really good and flavorful. Be warned that the egg arrived rather raw on top of my pork so, had to stuff that bad boy down into the hot pot to boil up. Hotpot selections were extensive. Goo range of proteins, veggies and noddle options. I ended up having leftovers and was able to make a nice soup the next today for lunch. All-in-all a good dining experience. The venue is modern and bright. The booths were comfy and offered some level of privacy. Further, they had room for large parties is that was desired. Our server (Westly) was really nice and informative. I would come back but do caution this place to keep an eye on the bathroom as it was kinda messy.

Yelp
I loved the food at Tasty Pot! It gives the alternative of going to AYCE or really expensive hotpots where you have to keep ordering. The hotpots were flavorful, packed with different ingredients, and filled us up. We also tried the popcorn chicken, and I loved how crispy it was. The milk tea was decent; however, it needed to be a little sweeter for my liking. The dishes also come out on a burner, so the food stays warm for a long time. Now the service.... Let me tell you. I believe our server was the owner or manager; he was amazing at his job. He was checking in on us all the time and even asked if there was anything they can improve on. Additionally, he gave us his recommendations and taught us how to use the sauce. He was amazing and made me want to come back again. The ambiance is very modern and pretty with all the lights; it's located in the 88 marketplace plaza, so you can go grocery shopping right after. There's a ton of parking as well.

Yelp
Such a great fall/winter restaurant to go. The weather is getting colder which makes the hot pot perfect for a date night. Me and my mom each had our own pot , mine was the tom yom soup pot, and hers was the lamb pot, which both were very tasty, I love that you can adjust the spicy level according to your preference . Staff were attentive and foods were fresh with no wait time at all. No reservation necessary, Just walk in and there are plenty of space to seat down . Parking were easy and free(as there's a free parking lot and free street parking as well ). Pots are average between $19-$26(depending on how fancy you like ), and you can always add on more extra ingredients as well. Broth were super delicious, they also have good selection of drink options, which I like my Jasmine milk tea a lot . We would definitely come back again.

Yelp
Soft Opening for a new Hot Pot restaurant in the 88 Market, we were seated and the interior was quite nice and clean booths. Then menu was very easy to read and you have 13 hot pot dishes to choose. We chose #10 (Seafood Lobster) $24. #2 (Lamb) $19 and #1 (Beef) $19. The food came quick and hot. Free soup refills and free black or green tea drink for the soft opening. The service was great as they came by to make sure the burners have fire to keep our soup hot. Highly recommend. Free Street Parking.

Yelp
Ambiance - casual, modern, love the LED lights in the ceiling Service - food came out super fast, staff was attentive Food - beef hot soup (soup came out bubbling hot, could not really taste the pork bone soup flavor), popcorn chicken had just the right amount of seasoning

Yelp
food: the portions and flavors were good for the price, I got the Taiwanese broth and my friend got the lamb one but they kinda tasted the same to me, I got the medium spice one but would probably do one higher next time Service: nice staff, was attentive Ambiance: I like the vibe and lights but it's a little off putting not at night

Yelp
Location was great, very convenient - close to eway and had free parking across the street. The restaurant was bright, clean and modern. The servers were all very friendly. The beef pot was delicious, and got better the more I ate it and the closer I got to the bottom. I will say the beef was bland before I added the sauces and before I stirred it all up, but it turned out to be a tasty bowl as the name says. The brown sugar milk tea was sooo good, a must try! The prices were reasonable and this was a really nice dinner experience.

Yelp
I went to the soft opening of Tasty Pot in Chinatown and had a good experience! I got the Taiwanese hot pot (mild), which I loved because you can adjust the spiciness, I like a little heat but not too much. Everything in the hot pot was super fresh and tasty. My partner got the lamb hot pot and said it was really clean-tasting, not heavy at all. I personally like more flavor so preferred my Taiwanese pot (#8) more! I tried a jasmine milk tea with boba, and honestly, it was really good! Pretty on par with a proper boba shop. The boba was nice and chewy, and the tea was refreshing. The service was attentive too! Our waiter was super polite and kept checking in on us without being overbearing. The interior is modern and trendy, and the booths are comfy. Overall, Tasty Pot is a great spot for personal small (Individual) hot pot in a chill, modern setting. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
I'd been waiting to try Tasty Pot ever since I saw it under construction -- finally made it! Food: Portions are generous for the price. We had the Japanese Miso and the Taiwanese Supreme Spicy (medium). I definitely preferred the spicy one -- great depth and not just heat. I'll probably come back to try the Szechuan next time. Drinks were the surprise highlight: the jasmine milk tea and kumquat lemon tea were both above expectations -- you can actually taste the tea instead of just sugar or milk, which I love. My friend really enjoyed the fruit tea as well. Service: Our server Wesley was super patient and friendly, and gave great recommendations for first-timers. Ambiance: Very modern, kind of like eating on a colorful "space boat" -- lighting plus all the steam from the pots makes the whole vibe. Price: $16.55-$23.49/pot, 2 girls might be able to share 1 pot, or 3ppl share 2 pot. Would return, especially to try more broths.

Yelp
Went to TastyPot for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. As we walked in, we noticed the modern and fun decor of the restaurant. The server was very polite and had us seated in no time. We ordered the beef hot soup and kimchi dumpling hot soup, and paired the hotpots with iced tea from their menu. The hotpots had massive portion sizes, and we were very full by the time we finished. The food was fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience at TastyPot.

Yelp
Casual spot for a quick lunch or dinner. The variety of toppings in the pots were good. However, the soup lacked some flavor and was salty. The ingredients were fresh depending on what pot you get but it's very standard with lots of frozen balls and nothing too special. The fried calamari as an appetizer was delicious. Service was fast and staff was super nice. For the price paid, I thought the soup would be better.

Yelp
Delicious food! So happy there is an individual hot pot place like this in Chicago. The brown sugar mochi dessert is a must get. The food was delicious and it's a generous portion for one person. Service was great and fast. They are always available to fill your pot with more soup when needed. There are a bunch of LED lights lining the space so it's colorful and fun. Great place to come with friends.

Yelp
Highly recommend this place! Been here twice now and been happy each time. The workers are attentive and helpful. I got a mild angus beef with a side of rice. It was delicious. I recommend going during lunch bc it's cheaper and you get a free unsweetened green/black tea. There's also plenty of seating at the restaurant, so good for large parties.

Yelp
Wow. First of all, tasty pot is located in a hidden area of Chicago I didn't even know existed before tonight .. This re -zoned warehouse district is lined with hot pot restaurants, a huge Chinese mall complete with grocery store , as well as an adorable boba store , and a modern claw machine arcade. I felt like I was in a totally different city . Tasty pot was great . It's a chain with locations in several major cities . Casual, modern futuristic vibe with neon lighting. Choose from a variety of hot pots ( we went with the lamb one and Thai one and both were great ). We opted out of a few ingredients such as " pig blood cake " and " beef aorta " ? What on earth ? We are adventurous eaters but OMG no thank you for those ingredients ( they kindly omitted them ) . Pick your spice level - we love spicy food and the third level of spice was plenty spicy for us . We did do a sheepish loop around the restaurant to watch other diners and figure out how to eat the meal ( apparently you put the rice or noodles in the hotpot and then once the noodles are cooked put small portions in a cup and eat and repeat ) . Some may have found this self explanatory but in the moment we were confused and could have used some guidance. Service was quick and friendly. Was really impressed. Meals come with boba tea of choice and pricing is super reasonable. Bill for 2 which included 2 drinks and 2 hot pots was 53.00 total. If you are an adventurous eater and want really good food in a hidden gem authentic Chinese neighborhood , definitely give this place a try. Excellent!

Yelp
My favorite go-to place for cooked hot pot! Tasty pot was one of my weekly go to's in when living in California so I'm super glad that it came to Chicago! My favorite is #2 lamb hot soup! The flavors are very consistent throughout different locations so I'm glad a get a reminder of The Bay! Tasty Pot is located outside the 88 Marketplace so there is plenty of parking. This is not like typical hot pot since you don't cook anything yourself. All the ingredients come together in one pot and is already cooked! They have a small fuel underneath to keep is boiling hot for you. My partner got the seafood hot and thought the broth was lacking but enjoyed all the ingredients. Second time we came he got the sichuan hot soup and said it was much better! Service was pretty standard, just came around to take orders and bring food. They also walk around to refill your soup if you want more! We will definitely be coming here more often!

Yelp
Idk if it's just me but tbh it lacked flavor?? Don't get me wrong, I do really like how everything comes in your personal pot and liked all the ingredients in my pot, but it wasn't flavorful. The service could've also been better too. They forgot to bring our drinks twice along with our additional add ons. However, I did really like my peach tea with lychee jelly.

Yelp
I came here on a Thursday evening with my partner and a friend who was visiting from out of town. My friend from Boston really likes this place but they closed down the Boston location, which is why when I told him we have one in Chicago he really wanted to come here. We started off with the popcorn chicken and it was super good. We each ordered our own tasty pot. I ordered the seafood, my friend had the Thai flavor, and my partner did the vegetable pot. We all really enjoyed our food and it was very filling at the same time given that there weren't a lot of noodles in the pot underneath all those toppings. I think the pricing is very fair given what you get really fills you up. I don't mind coming here during lunch because you get a drink as part of a combo meal. I love the free parking across the street and then afterwards I can go grocery shopping at the 88 marketplace. They did give us a choice of a complimentary black or green tea which were really good. It is very bright and quite spacious inside with comfy booths. You can order through them or just order by scanning the QR code at the table. People were also very friendly and nice. I'll come back here again as it gets colder in Chicago because it is a good alternative from hot pot.

Yelp
This place does not take reservations and there was a wait at 6pm. You need to wait for the waiter to come by and put you on the wait list. The screen by the door is only for ordering carryout. Most of the place has 2-4 people booths or tables. If you have a party larger than 4 people, you have to wait for 3 small tables to clear for them put together a table for 6. That would take at least an hour considering that everyone just set down or ordered. We are a family, so I asked if we can just squeeze in a booth. They offered to split us up in 2 booths. It is still in the soft opening phase so does not yet have the promotions that other Tasty Pots in California have. You can get your order in faster if you order with the QR code on the wall of your table. The popcorn chicken was crunchy as expected. When the pots come out, be careful that they did not turn on the heat too high. I saw the table next to us and my companion's dish overflow, which was messy. Both our Beef and Lamb pots were yummy. We ordered one as mild spicy and another as medium spicy, which both turned out less spicy then we expected. I did leverage the sauces on the side to add spice. The thing that I noticed about the menu is that there are no desserts.

Yelp
Was recommended to this newly opened hotpot place , had great time . Soup is very tasty and fresh , pop corn chicken is crispy and very flavorful. Strongly recommend this place.

Yelp
Interesting new concept for personalized hot pot. Perhaps worth it if you the normal all out hot pot experience is too much. Decent quality and good service.

Yelp
The service was great and so was the food. I think I prefer the hot pot where you cook it yourself but this was a nice alternative.

Yelp
I had really high hopes for this place and was super excited for a mini hot pot place like this to open up in Chicago. We went and the food was kind of bland. I got the Taiwanese supreme spicy at the super spicy level and it was giving no spice at all. The broth overall was very bland and I had to use the provided sauce for any flavor at all. So disappointed in the quality and flavor of the food and lack of spice. I had hopes it would be similar to boiling point restaurant but fell super short. The waiters were also hard to get a hold of as well. I don't think I would go back. I'd rather just do regular hot pot.
