My wife and I both grew up in the Philippines so it was a treat to eat Filipino food anytime we visit California. During our honeymoon trip in August after getting married in San Francisco, we called Tatang ahead to check if they served Sinigang and went to have some. Upon arrival, the restaurant asthetics looked humble but clean. The place was understandably warm during that day and they had industrial fans to cool people down in the absence of airconditioning units. The server’s name was Chiho. She was our favorite part of the experience as she was very helpful and welcoming. We ordered the Bistek, Sinigang and Tocino. The Tocino and Bistek tasted great out of the kitchen but the Sinigang was not tart enough to what we are used to eating. Also the pork meat was darker than you would usually think but we decided it was okay to eat. After informing Chiho about the soup tartness, she explained that they only use real ingredients and not the instant packet. Afterwards she came back and offered to make additional soup using more tamarind. The additional soup came out tasting more like the authentic Sinigang so we ended up as really happy customers. Servings were more than enough and definitely for sharing. We took some left Great job Tatang.
