Liked it a lot! Highly recommended!
But I’ll start with one (and only) negative: The time alotted to us was two hours - it was not mentioned during the reservation initially, but then was mentioned apologetically several times during the meal, then eventually waved as our table was not needed. A two hours time slot works in some places (2.5 is bette), but DEFINITELY does NOT fit a restaurant like this in which people eat multiple small dishes, the serving is not tightly timed, and the atmosphere aims to be generous and welcoming. They should probably either drop this limit completely, even if it means increasing cost a bit, or increase the slot to 2.5-3 hours and most importantly plan better. I loved the place, but will not go back if this limited slot stays.
The Positives (there are many): The design reflects a character that is definitely Ukrainian, but current, welcoming, and non-clicheic. The food felt similar, very current takes on Ukrainian dishes, that managed to integrate, traditional tastes, restaurant professionalism & home style warmth.
We tried sprats, forshmack (herring) with vodka, pickled tomatoes, chiburek, pachinka, latkes and a variety of varenyks - they were all great. The server was friendly and knowledgeable, helped with choices, especially the Ukrainian wines that we did not know much about. It was Ukrainian Independence Day, and the atmosphere was somewhat subdued (understandably) and we were happy to be there, show some solidarity with the Ukrainian people!
