I've visited several Tatte Bakery & Café locations in the area, and while the Clarendon spot boasts a beautiful atmosphere and prime location, my experience here didn’t quite meet the expectations I had going in—especially after enjoying the Bethesda locations so much more.
I tried a few new menu items this time, and while that’s always a bit of a gamble, I was hoping for better execution. The Salmon & Avocado Tartine was underwhelming, especially when compared to the Avocado & Poached Egg Tartine, which I highly recommend instead. The hibiscus iced tea was watery and lacked flavor, and I was pretty disappointed by the iced matcha latte as well—it just didn’t hit the mark.
One detail that stood out: I ordered a large latte and it was served in a to-go cup rather than a ceramic mug, which detracted a bit from the café experience. That said, the latte itself was made perfectly, and the pear tart was absolutely delicious—definitely a highlight.
The staff were accommodating, though not particularly warm, and while the vibe of the café was nice overall, there are a few small things that could be improved to really elevate the experience. For now, I’ll stick with the Bethesda locations, but I hope this one continues to grow—it has a lot of potential.
