"Tatte Bakery & Cafe has undergone epic growth over the course of the last few years, and it shows no signs of stopping: The local-born bakery will anchor a redevelopment project on Old Colony Avenue in South Boston, where it will build out a full cafe, production space, offices, and a test kitchen spanning nearly 30,000 square feet. National Development will oversee the project to rework the former Cole Hersee industrial building at 60-70 Old Colony Ave., which will eventually include an additional eight to 10 restaurant and retail vendors along with Tatte. Tzurit Or founded Tatte in 2007 and has since opened 12 locations across Boston, Cambridge, and Brookline. The rapid growth over the past few years is in part thanks to former Panera CEO Ron Shaich’s investment in the company; he’s also been busy helping fuel Life Alive expansion. Tatte’s South Boston hub will help with production for all these locations and more — Tatte opens a store number 13 on the campus of Berklee College of Music on July 10, and more locations are forthcoming, not just in Boston, but also in Washington, DC, and New York. In addition to production and cafe space, the Old Colony Avenue Tatte complex will host public classes and baking workshops. “This location is perfect for our future growth,” said Or in a release. “The opportunity to put a state-of-the-art production space here as well as expand our program to provide spaces that invite the public in to see and learn more about baking and how Tatte operates is just so exciting. It will be a bakery wonderland.” The development spans two blocks on Old Colony Avenue, and it will retain current tenants, including Rock Spot climbing gym, Lapels dry cleaner, and the Tufts Medical Center Behavioral Health Program. Tatte’s production space could open around the second quarter of 2020, with the other pieces following soon after." - Dana Hatic

This is Tatte #4 for me on my quest to visit them all and try a kuign Amann at each. Parking was a little rough and this one doesn’t have the abundance of floor to ceiling windows that some of the others do but I loved the industrial vibe and all of the windows into the giant kitchen where you could see all of the pastry being made. A nice display, though not as good as the one at assembly Square, but lots of space and different kinds of seating.

The food is great. We got 2 maple pecan pie slices & a tiramisu. Also ordered a decaf latte made with oat milk, and a blood orange Sanpellegrino sparkling water. The service is amazing. The workers were very polite & helpful, & even brought our food to the table. The atmosphere is calm & laid back. Relaxing music. Very clean place as well. Our daughter loves Tatte. We adults also came here on a separate occasion for a date, & had a comparably wonderful experience.

It’s all around my favorite cafe in town but the quality control can be stricter on take-out orders. Burnt bread on an uncut sandwich is not acceptable.

Pistachio latte was excellent. Eggs were cooked perfectly to over medium. The seasoning for the home made tomato puree and fry cakes was wonderful. Service was fast and courteous.

Their fried egg halloumi breakfast sandwich literally saved me as I had just finished a difficult run and food had never tasted so good. A perfect combination of flavors where every bite was 10/10. I also got a chocolate chip cookie for later—also exceptional and would be even better warm.

I’ve been in the cafe for more than 45 minutes now, and there’s no sign of the order coming. It’s a Sunday and there about 20 people here, it’s not busy whatsoever. The staff are hobbling around at a snail’s pace, oblivious and indifferent to the fact that there are people with a pain in their butt from waiting for food. There’s a waiter here struggling to deliver a bowl of soup, despite each table having a laminated number. This extends to the front desk/baristas, who took 10 minutes to take my order despite only 1 person being in front of me. Again, it’s not busy - in fact it’s clearing out now and the food still hasn’t arrived. I wouldn’t come back here again. ** UPDATE ** Food just arrived. 48 minutes after ordering. The staff apologized but it hasn’t changed my mind. The food was tasty but the portion sizes were small even for appetizers.

I was really disappointed with my experience here. I went in hoping for a quick, tasty treat but what I got was far from what I expected. When I finally got my order I found a long hair tangled up inside my pastry. Absolutely disgusting, the staff didn't even apologize, no offer to remake the food no refund, nothing. Very unprofessional- would not recommend.

Tatte has become my go-to coffee spot in Boston. Their breakfast is always fresh and delicious, and the coffee is top-notch. It's a great place to start your day or meet up with friends for a bite to eat. I highly recommend the Cheese Bourekas
