I loved that this is a dog friendly restaurant with a great patio to sit out and enjoy the weather. The service was very friendly with amazing hospitality. The duck sliders were a must try as well as the pickled green tomatoes and garlic pickles. I will definitely be coming back to eat again during my time on Johns Island!

Don’t let the rough exterior fool you—this place is AMAZING. The Tattooed Moose on John’s Island might just be one of my new favorite spots. It’s only about 15 minutes outside of historic Charleston, but the vibe makes you feel like a local right away. The service was fantastic—attentive, quick, and fun. We were greeted at our table with “Are y’all day drinkers?” and instantly fell in love. The food came out fast and was delicious. The atmosphere is quirky in the best way: writing on the walls and tables, taxidermy, beer-can garland strung up with colorful Christmas lights, and live honky-tonk-style music that fit the crowd perfectly. There’s tons of outdoor seating, a little play area for kids, and even a sandy parking lot that makes parking stress-free. The menu is simple without being boring—tons of beers on draft, a full bar with cocktails, and not an overwhelming number of food options. We tried the duck fat fries with gravy (a must!) and the Moose Burger, which came with house-made pork rinds. Both were excellent. Prices were reasonable and comparable to nearby restaurants, but the vibe and experience here set it apart. 👉 Bottom line: If you want a spot that’s laid-back, fun, and full of personality, Tattooed Moose is a must-visit.

Great place to grab food & drinks! Good happy hour drink specials, and a solid house lager. The Thanksgiving Sammy was fantastic, by far our favorite thing! The duck fat fries were good, but needed salt and I was hoping they would be more crisp. The gravy and garlic aioli dipping sauces were good. Street corn was good, but strong on flavor. Good atmosphere inside and out, would be a fun place to get drinks with friends.

The atmosphere was outstanding. We loved the graffiti everywhere. We also loved that we could add to the graffiti. It was a fun, lively and entertaining place to go to. The service was good. The food was good but not our family’s favorite. My wife had the Thanksgiving sandwich and found it to be okay. The downside was everything came with pork rinds and you could not substitute out the pork rinds without a pretty large up charge. Nobody in our family loves pork rinds so we left with a large number of pork rinds. The rest of the food was good but the pork rind sort of soured us on the experience slightly. My wife had the stew and loved it. If they would allow you to make a reasonable substitute with the pork rinds it would have made for a better dining experience.

Shout out to our awesome server and food runner! I didn't get their name, but they were both amazing and I remember our server saying "teamwork makes the dream work!" ZERO DISAPPOINTMENT HERE. AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS. I've always loved the moose, but today was especially good. I was almost disappointed to find the #1 gone, but let me tell you, that new lamb wrap is mind-blowing! The collards were good, and I tried the Brunswick Stew for the first time, and why have I been sleeping on this?? Can't leave out my Cuban with extra pickled tomatoes...just WOW. Bravo y'all.

We ordered the chicken sandwich, duck fries and chili. The chicken sandwich was very good. As were the chili and the fries. Classic rock music played in the background and the interior was quite rustic and eclectic. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It's a wonderful place to go if you don't mind roughing it a little. On Friday and Saturday nights they have a band and based upon the seating outside it's a very popular place on weekends.

I visited the Tattoed Moose location in Park Circle for the 1st time and will def be back. Came at 5pm on a Saturday and they had happy hour going. Ordered a cpl of Yuenglings for $4 ea and had the Smash Burger with pickles for $7.50. Service was great! They had live music out on the patios and they're cool with dogs on the patio. They have their own small parking lot tucked away too and there were plenty of parking spaces. Inside they had a variety of arcade games too. Price, service and atmosphere were all awesome.

Holy moly! Loved Tattooed Moose on St. John’s Island, we went twice in one day! Such an amazing space. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. The service was great - the servers were so friendly and attentive. They had a large beer list - by draft and can. They also have a full bar!!! The food was so delicious and definitely homemade. I honestly don’t know what I liked the most - the corn dogs were crispy, the egg rolls were full of flavor with a delicious dipping sauce. The fries with blue cheese- omggggg 😋 and the pimento cheese- so flavorful and amazing consistency. We then came back later and had some wine and checked out DJ Stix. He played lots of great tunes….. will definitely be back

No Way You Leave Hungry! Petite portions are the last thing you're going to find at this John's Island establishment. So loosen those belts, get your taste-buds ready, and prepare to carbo load on the best sandwiches and sides this side of Charleston! The restaurant is surrounded by a gravel lot. Motorcycle riders will be glad to find a thin strip of cement at the front of the parking lot. Tattoed Moose regularly hosts live music throughout the week and on the weekends. These bands can set up outside under the oaks trees or inside on a small wooden stage. The inside of Tattoed Moose looks likes a hunting cabin designed by post-frat Harley riders. Hey that's not a bad thing! There are no preconceived notions that you have to dress a certain way, talk a certain way, or act a certain way to enjoy this establishment. Just sit back, sip a good beer, listen to some tunes, and uhhh.....oh yeah, eat! Begin your meal with some of the fries cooked in duck fat. The fries are unsalted but they are paired with a great dipping sauce that compliments the flavor of the fires nicely. The fries can also be topped with blue cheese and garlic OR a healthy heaping hopped-up serving of gravy. You'll definitely want to continue poutine these in your mouth! The Mexican street corn caught my eye, so I had to give it a try. I am happy to say that it does not disappoint. It is absolutely slathered in lime aioli, then rolled in cajita cheese, and chili powder. Now on to the main event. SANDWICHES. You get your money's worth when it comes to the portion sizes of the sandwiches at Tattoed Moose. You'll find the menu filled with tasty options like the falafel pita sandwich pictured above. Every sandwich is served with house made pickles and cajun pork rinds. You can, of course, swap out the pork rinds for another side like baked beans, short rib chili, cauliflower casserole, Caesar salad, brunswick stew or the aforementioned street corn and duck fat fries. The sandwich that caught my attention was the Pork Belly and kimchi sub. This was some of the thickest, tastiest pork belly I have ever had. Pair that with spicy kimchi, sliced veggies, and a sweet sauce, all wrapped in a super soft role, yes people, yes. The most popular sandwich is the Mike's Famous Duck Club. Hawaiin sweet bread is toasted and topped with duck confit, applewood smoked bacon, hickory smoked cheddar, lettuce, tomato, and red onion, and garlic aioli. Need I say more??? There's a reason people around Charleston rave about this sandwich. It's damn good. By now your stomach gremlin should be thoroughly satisfied. Per our servers recommendation, we decided to wash down the meal with a Raspberry Creamsicle Blender from Hopfly Brewing Company out of Charlotte, NC. Absolutely delicious and the perfect drink after a long day and a great meal.

Order: duck confit club with duck fat fries, moose burger Came here to try the famous duck confit club sandwich as seen on Diners Drive-ins and Dives. Was convinced to try out their duck fat fries too, as all the reviews on Yelp were raving. First off, the sandwich is enormous. It's THREE pieces of Hawaiian bread with duck and bacon in between one layer and lettuce, tomato, and aioli in the other; "triple decker" as they call it. Maybe I over hyped myself but the sandwich wasn't what I imagined. Do get me wrong, the sandwich wasn't nasty, it just wasn't "dynamite" as Guy made it seem to be lol. The duck was good, wasn't dry (as duck can be dry if you don't know how to cook it). The aioli sauce gave the sandwich a good flavor. I ended up removing the extra pieces of bread and ate it like a duck bruschetta. Personally thought the extra bread wasn't needed, way too much bread! The duck fat fries wasn't anything spectacular over regular ol' fries fried in peanut oil. There are some fast food restaurants with better fries. (Yikes). The moose burger was decent as the patty could have used a bit more seasoning. Should have asked for grilled onions on the burger instead of raw onions. And the pork rinds were a little stale. Was expecting them to be crispy. Besides the food, the atmosphere seemed really chilled and laid back.

I don't think I've ever been to a restaurant that makes me want to pack up and move so that I could be closer to it....but here we are.... Let's break this down... Location - magic. The southern vibe just oozes and it feels like a relaxant is in the air. The restaurant is casual, vibey, and fun! There's a beautiful patio with tables, kid occupiers (games, ample room to run around) Service - perfect. Our server was one of my favorites I've had in a while. I think her name was Chelsea. She had great recommendations, was very personable and took great care of us. Food - heavenly. The kitchen must be blessed by the food gods! I had the duck club (with Chelsea's recommended changes) with adding avocado. Please, make sure you eat this sandwich before you die. The duck, the cheese, the bacon....its an experience that will make your eyeballs roll back a bit. Another bit of advice is to try the fries...not just plain ole' fries but the duck fat fried, roasted garlic and blue cheese fries. You will never look at fries the same way again.

This is an incredible spot! Great for families for lunch. Really eye-catching decor. Great beer selection. Absolutely delicious food. The porkstrami alone is something that would beckon us to return. Wonderful, kind wait staff. And an outdoor area for kids entertainment (giant water slide). For sure, recommend!!'

We met up with some friends who are locals to Johns Island and regulars at the Tattooed Moose. We got there about an hour before closing on Sunday afternoon, which often staff can be annoyed since it was so close to closing, but the bartenders were still very friendly and happy to have us! We ordered the roasted garlic and blue cheese duck fat fries... Let me tell you, anything that is served with a roasted head of garlic for me to dip my fries in, makes me happy. I highly recommend this hole in the wall joint!

The atmosphere was really cool! We sat outside so we could watch the kids play in "Mooseland" (their play area) and we even had fun playing Jenga & Cornhole. Looks like a cool place for an adult Birthday party or even rehearsal dinner! Inside it's the same vibes. The Nashville Hot chicken sandwich and Duck fries were amazing, and the garlic aioli dipping sauce was fantastic! The kids grill cheese was grilled a bit too hard for them to enjoy, and my Husbands grilled cheese (which was supposed to be a few different cheeses) looked like the same size as the kids.

I wanted to love the Tattooed Moose, but the food is a bit too greasy for my liking. My burger and the duck fat fries (which people rave about) made my stomach turn and were underwhelming in taste. For all those calories, they should have been the best thing I had ever eaten. Love the live music and laid back atmosphere. Our young waiter was also extremely friendly!

Love this place! Our waitress, Chelsea, was exceptionally friendly with us. The Bleu cheese & roasted garlic fries are decadent & extremely flavorful. The duck club is to die for. I haven't had it in 10+ years, and the quality is the same as the last time I had one; the duck has a smokiness & succulence very reminiscent of pulled pork BBQ. The patio area is very shady and has plenty of room to accommodate a lot of people without making it feel crowded. If you plan on visiting the Angel Oak tree, this spot is perfect for lunch. There's so many quirky decorations, if you're into that kind of thing. Essentially, Tattooed Moose is a quintessential dive bar with great food!

This is one of our favorite spots to stop by on our yearly family vacation! Great spot to stop by for an easy casual dinner, especially when they have live music playing. Lots of lawn games for some added activity to your meal! Start out with a large basket of duck fries for the table, they're a must! The duck club, porkstrami, and pork belly grilled cheese are all great sandwich options. Finish your night off with a $3 soft serve ice cream as well! Great service, great vibes, don't count the moose out!

Funky open air bar-restaurant on John's Island close to Charleston. Everyone writes on the wall here! Decent beer menu with locals on tap and many bottled and canned beer. Very casual with a friendly staff. Service is efficient and fast. We were recommended to come here to get their duck club sandwich. It is huge, tasty and more than you can eat. It comes with duck fat fries which are good as well. The menu has many other sandwiches and other bar type food. Worth the drive from Charleston for the club sandwich and to see the funky decor!

No one does wings as perfectly as the Tattooed Moose. These are meaty, flavorful, lean and delicious!!

Yes, we have been coming cure for 5 years. We enjoy sitting outside under the covering we're still you can see the woods behind this location. Inside gets a little bit crowded and a lot more active with TVs and games and just talk. Outside you feel at peace particularly on a cool day like today. The service was extraordinary with our waiter or tall men gentleman who was checking back on us time and time again and doing a great service for us. For the food today I had an extraordinary serving which was frankly one of the less expensive ones which is a Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich which had pimento cheese and some pickled green onions and of course I had to get the duck fries which are their specialty. The chicken was good crunchy and thick and it had some spice in it which really kicked things up. The pimento cheese was thickly laid on and made for an enjoyable if not a slightly messy meal. Duck fat fries with roasted garlic & blue cheese... need I say more? We've been going to this restaurant since 2015 and it never disappoints! The sandwiches are so unique but different and the fries are amazing! A must stop in Charleston! Duck Club & Lucky Sub #1 are our favorite sandwiches as well!

Always a great spot for food, music and today a bonus oyster roast! I've been a fan since the early days downtown and love both the Johns and North Charleston locations. They were on Triple DDD for the duck club and duck fat fries. I also love the thanksgiving sammy, the burger and the pickles. Lots of craft beers on tap too!

This was everything we were hoping for and wanted in an establishment!! We had watched an episode of Triple D and saw this restaurant and agreed that if we were anywhere near it while on our vacation it was a must stop and OMG it did not disappoint!!! The food was ridiculously flavorful, my husband could not stop talking about the Lucky #1 for days after we ate here. Their duck club out of this world!! Staff was amazing, so warm and inviting. The vibe of this watering hole awesome!! Loved the hole bike vibe, had fun reading the walls and searching the license plates on the wall! When back in the area... we will go again!!

An absolute staple of our Johns Island rotations - we can never get enough. They have the miller high life pony's which is enough to get my seal of endorsement. The thanksgiving Sammy or chili is my go to. Generous outdoor space for groups, kids or doggos. Inside space can be louder but not over baring.

When setting out on our lunch journey, I did not anticipate eating at the Tattooed Moose, however, I'm sure glad we did. Everything was fresh and delicious. The restaurant itself has so much character and you can feel the ghost of patrons past. It really feels alive in a way that makes you want to become part of the spirit of the building. All the food was crafted and executed well. It's obviously homemade fair that's simply delicious. Everything from the pickles and corn dogs to the chicken salad and Cuban were crafted to perfection with immense flavor and generous portions. The waitstaff was lovely too. We specifically had Mary and she made us feel welcomed and was extremely knowledgeable about the menu. Oh, and if the meatball sub is the special, seriously order it. It's the best I've ever had. I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone.

Truly grateful we stopped here during our vacation. The best pulled pork sandwich I've ever had. Family still talks about this place and the food years later! Not sure this item is on the menu anymore. Went back in June 2019.

We were here 5 years or so ago and had one of the best meals ever, so coming back here gave us too much high expectations i think. The ambiance and vibe was still fun and chill...they still let you sign anything- the walls, the tables, the condiment trays etc. The bathroom is still covered in comments and pictures from visitors. The waitstaff were fine...chill like the establishment. But the food seems to have taken a turn. Hubby's cuban was just okay. His fries were fine. But my veggie burger was the worst. It was lukewarm and very soft and fell apart. There were hard uncooked peas in it and had virtually no taste. The american cheese was the only thing that gave this burger any sense of substance or flavor. I ate maybe 1/3 of it and couldn't even finish. The waitstaff cleared our plates and didn't even notice lol. I suppose eating a veggie burger in an establishment that has deer heads all over is probably my own fault. I'm still giving them a 3 star though because I feel like that item might've not been there staple. So just beware- don't get the veggie burger!

Love this place! Good vibes, especially if you get to enjoy the live music. They always deliver with great tasting food! Went for the daily special of a pot roast sub, and was not disappointed. So good!

This is a fun, laid-back spot to grab a drink & bite to eat. They have a huge outdoor space and often have live music. Bartenders & servers have always been super friendly and attentive! I highly recommend the cauliflower cheese casserole & duck fat fries. And don't forget to grab a Sharpie & 'tattoo' your name somewhere on the premises!

Just moved to Johns Island in April 2023. The Moose has become my go to place for comfort food, cold beer and local bands. Everything on the menu is good and the service is fast and friendly. Casual, relaxed atmosphere.

We loved this place. Came early on a Monday evening and shared the yummy low country boil platter... a lot of food! We also had an appetizer of egg rolls that were soooo delicious. Our waiter was attentive, friendly, so and provided great beer recommendations. They had live music we enjoyed a lot. Casual fun place!

Wow! This place is amazing. 1st time visitors to Johns Island. Yelp did it again. Large bar, high ceilings with a biker decor. The menu looked amazin, and it is! Partner had the Cuban sandwicj and I had the Korean pork belly sub. It was really creative and really delicious. Kimchee, bar made pickles and a savory sauce. Subbed Mexican street corn for the pork rind. Both were great. Always a treat when moose are around.

This place is like an old roadhouse or some might say a dive bar. Don't let that fool you. Lots of locals here on the weekends and brings their kids to eat and run around outside. The food is some of the best I've ever had. The duck sandwich is excellent. The sub #1 is the best sandwich I've ever had; Korean bbq with a medley of pickled veggies and pork rinds. An absolute flavor sensation with every bite. Lots of beer on tap and a big bar inside. The burgers are also excellent and think made of short rib meat and not greasy.

What a great place. Mother Mary is the best waitress. She told us about the smash burger with bacon, fried onion , bbq aioli... we upgraded to duck fat fries.. sold. Enough for 2. Pickle on the side. Beyond expectations. The decor is wonderful. Marked as a come back. Yes use yelp high five coupon.

Such great vibes! I came on a rainy Saturday night and was so impressed. There is tons of parking and outdoor seating, and dogs are welcome which is nice! They had tons of menu options and seemed like a great family joint as well. We ordered the duck fat fries and the corn dogs. Both were fantastic! They had a lot of menu options and an affordable happy hour as well. I'll definitely return!

Fabulous food & atmosphere! Not your cookie cutter food. All original and tasty. Served with fresh pork rinds or another side of your choice. We were a party of 11 (4 kids) everyone ordered something different and everyone raved about everything they ordered. I had the grilled cheese with tomato with the cauliflower casserole with the hot sauce. And a light spice Bloody Mary. Excellent

This place is excellent at any location you happen to visit. The menu is well thought out and perfectly matches the bar spirit. Their John's Island location is beautifully situated on Maybank highway surrounded by gorgeous trees and plenty of outdoor seating. Perfect for socializing with friends and family this place serves the role as a bar with great drink selection and high energy as well as a diner with tasty bites. The servers are always willing to help and are attentive even when busy. I love the variety on the menu so trying new things is easy. I had a Cobb salad that was so filling and well dressed. My husband and son each had a type of burger which they loved. Our daughter was able to enjoy chicken tenders and we all had our fair share of their legendary duck fat fries. I recommend anyone to come here and enjoy food and drinks with friends and possibly make some new ones too!

Nothing like the chill vibes of Tattoed Moose on a Sunday afternoon. Brought the fam and the doggo to sit outside and enjoy a relaxing banjo band with an ice-cold beer. Embarrassed to say we've tried just about everything on the menu and have never been let down. Just wish they had a little bigger parking lot when they're busy.

We've been going to the Moose for a decade and have ordered (almost) every sandwich and entree. Still, one of our all time fave happy hours and vibes. When the downtown location closed, we begrudgingly moved on, head down, sans crispy corn dogs [sigh]. We've been to the JI/Maybank Moose a few times and even spent a birthday there. Yes, the wings (our review's impetus) are just as great as you remember. Meaty as hell with just the right amount of crunch and spice. It's a very unique, non-traditional, unforgettable wing that works beautifully. We love the layout of the JI Moose; it's like two completely different bars, inside and outside. The outside space is ideal to spread out and have an intimate conversation. You can even order at the bar and a runner will bring you your food. While on this last (holiday) trip, we were told that staffing issues have taken a toll and (being understanding and polite) did our best to clearly communicate our needs and work with our server. We understand that food costs must be passed on to the customers and that costs are high everywhere. We hope that the JI Moose endures these uncertain industry times and bounces back with the same attitude and energy we've come to love.

Great spot. Actually came here 2 nights in a row while on vacation on Kiawah. Everything we had was delicious. Nothing much was open late but this place was live and kicking! Glad we came!

Stopped in for dinner. The atmosphere is very laid-back. The music is very loud. We ordered two appetizers, the french fries and the pimento cheese. The pimento cheese was really good. However, the french fries were very soggy and the grease that they were cooked and seemed as if it was old, we ordered the fried chicken sandwich, the pork butt sandwich, and the gyro. Money said the gyro was really good. My fried chicken sandwich was mediocre and so was the pork belly sandwich. The pork rinds that are served with each seemed stale. I was really looking forward to this since it was on. DDD. However, we ended up leaving disappointed. :(

One of my favorite spots to eat and drink on Johns Island, Tatooed Moose never disappoints! It's such a cool place to casually enjoy yourself and usually have good live music. Definitely the type of place full of locals they always have great rotating taps and good deals at the bar, as well as some very underrated food. The burgers are really good, I get the brunch burger most of the time and I'm always very satisfied, fries are really good too. Very quick service and attentive staff, will be back many times in the future!

Such a fun spot to pop into when you're outside of Charleston! Another spot recommended by a friend and another success. The staff were all extremely nice and welcoming. You can tell they have all sorts of people coming through - regulars, visitors, families, young couples... We never waited for someone to take our order or come back to check on us - the bartenders were patient while I decided on my drink. Sadly we weren't hungry for lunch yet but they checked on us a few times to be sure we were okay. This is a really quirky and fun place to eat, drink and relax -- they have a great spot indoors but the scenery and patio outside are awesome. We had a quick drink on our way back to town but I will definitely be coming back to hang again and also order some food!

This bar was fantastic! The parking lot is a bit rough but other than that is a great place to drink. We sat at the bar and had a few drinks late afternoon. The beer was ice cold and the staff were all very friendly. Really look forward to going back

Went here while on vacation and it was just ok. Getting someone to come back to your table was like pulling teeth. They were fully staffed so that was not the problem. Staff would walk by and purposely not make eye contact so they didn't have to help or get you anything like another napkin! So annoying

The fries were exactly as I dreamed they would be. The garlic blue cheese fries are an experience as well as a meal. They were really tasty and the portion size was good. My only complaint is that I wish it had more blue cheese sauce on it. The ambiance is great and there's a ton of indoor and outdoor seating. The service was also very good! Overall very good experience!

We stopped here for lunch during a weekend trip to Charleston. We had looked up places featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives and thought the review of this Duck Club sounded pretty amazing! There are two locations and we were on our way to visit the Angel Oak, so we stopped here on the way. It looked busy and the parking area was nearly full but we were seated inside right away. There were lots of tables outside too. The inside is full of character and fun. Our waiter was relaxed but he came around at all the right times to check in on us. My husband ordered the Duck Club and duck fat fries. I ordered the Lowcountry Cuban with fries. The food came pretty quickly. Both sandwiches were stuffed with various meats and toppings. They came with house-made pickles. Our fries were a treat- so crispy and delicious! My sandwich was very good, although the entire filling kept slipping out- I'm not sure what could fix that but it did make it a little hard to eat. My husband enjoyed his Duck club but wasn't overly blown away. We paid almost $40 for the lunch. In short, fun atmosphere, interesting menu, decent food, high prices.

I love this place. Great food, great atmosphere, and awesome employees! I used to live walking distance and would frequent often. They have a great outdoor space which is dog and kid friendly. Tables are far enough apart from each other that dogs are not put in close contact when walking by each other. There food is some of my favorite on the island. I was on a Thanksgiving Sammy kick for a while but moved on to one of their newer menu items, the friend chicken sandwich. There is not a bad item on the menu. Make sure you get the blue cheese fries to share and ,although expensive, be sure to try the Famous Duck Fat Club at least once, you won't be disappointed!
