Yelp
We had a dangerous experience at the Tavern. *This one star review is not commentary on the harasser/stalker, it's about the Tavern bar, and the safety and security measures they need to take to keep patrons safe, as this could have ended devastatingly bad. This includes bartenders cutting people off when they've had too much alcohol and are spilling drinks, more security, kicking harrassers out of the bar once they've been reported to security, and making sure harrassers who have been reported to security do not follow the people they've been harassing, especially women, out of the bar
Visited this bar with a female friend and her Navy Seal boyfriend. Had a good time watching the SDSU NCAA basketball game. When the game was over a 45 year old guy who has lived in PB for 15+ years, and is from Red Bank, NJ approached our group. The stranger had black hair, with some salt and pepper gray on the sides, and was dressed in a black shirt.
This stranger tried befriending our group by buying a beer for himself and me. This was all a ploy so he could spill his beer on the table, to get us to move from our bar stools, so he could get to the female friend, who was sitting in between us. The bartender should have cut him off at this point as he was clearly intoxicated, approached a group he did not belong to during covid protocols, and spilled an entire beer. Instead of being cut off, he was given a 2nd replacement beer by the bartender.
When our group didn't move he poured his second beer on my leg under the bar table, so he could sit next to the girl when I got up from my seat. Security did not come over. We tried shutting him out by turning away and shifting a seat or two down the bar. This creeper then turned to the girls boyfriend (6ft 2" NAVY seal) and asked him if he could take his girlfriend home tonight. He was trying to bait the Navy Seal into fighting him, or attacking him, so he could steal his girl after he got kicked out. The Navy Seal calmly got up and told the bouncer, who then came over to the harasser. Security didn't ask the harrasser to leave the bar, kick him out of the bar, or even ask him to go to the other side of the bar, they just told him to calm down and don't bother us. So he continued to stand next to us at the bar.
We asked the bartender for the check to quickly escape, paid our $180 food and beverage check, gave 25% tip, and walked out. We think the harasser even threw a couple drinks on our bar tab, but we wanted out of there so bad we just paid so we could get out of the uncomfortable situation.
The creeper then followed our three person group out of the bar and followed the girl, until we were able to walk quickly, cross the street, and get away. Security did not stop the individual from following our 3 person group out the door.
If you feel like you're in a dangerous situation, report it to security right away,, make sure they get kicked out, and make sure he doesn't follow you and your group.
