"If a better name for a bar exists, we have yet to hear it. This Charlestown pub is worth a visit for solid pub food like fish and chips and a full Irish breakfast, over 50 beers on tap, live Irish music, and occasional karaoke. (If you’re looking for a blowout night with a group, the owners rent out a $1,000-per-night Airbnb upstairs called “The Top of the World.”)" - Tanya Edwards, Terrence Doyle

Love going to places like these where the staff are professional yet personable. This place is a must try. The atmosphere is intriguing for a Saturday evening with your significant other or go watch a game while enjoying fine drinks, yummy food, and connect with real humans. Yes, that’s still a thing🥰🫡

Finally made it here! It was everything we imagined, and more. The bartender was also our server. He was efficiently managing the whole place. Started with an appetizer special of corned beef poutine. We also had corned beef pizza and shepherds pie. Everything was absolutely delicious. If you’re looking for great food, beer, service and a cozy Irish pub atmosphere this is the place for you. We can’t wait to come back.

This was amazing. Food was delicious. Service was fantastic and friendly. Great atmosphere. Loved it. Had the bangers and mash which was amazing. Wish it had come with peas and not baked beans, but it was so much I didn't even finish, so Drinks were shockingly affordable. 10/10

Loved the place. Went in for a drink after an exam. The bartender was amazing, he was very warm and welcoming. Would definitely visit again with friends and would recommend this place to anyone who is in the area and looking for a nice and chill bar.

Go for: One of the last Irish pubs in Boston that feels like it has successfully resisted gentrification. Avoid if: You go to bars to order cocktails. Something surprising: The food was phenomenal. Best of all, there were patrons in their 20s all the way through people in their 70s sitting at the bar, which is awesome. Reservation needed? None taken. First come, first served. Overall Experience: 4/5. Service was timely, attentive, and accurate despite a nearly packed house. This place feels like a time capsule of better, less expensive days in Boston. They have a great beer selection and awesome sandwiches. Planning a return trip soon. Value for Price: 4 Sanitation: 4 Food Quality: 4 Menu Precision: 4 Service Quality: 5 Timing: 4 Decor: 4 Access: 3 — 5 among the best 4 strong 3 not too bad 2 mediocre 1 never again

Kenny is my favorite bartender in Boston. I’m a bartender myself, and the Tavern is my to go place. Kenny always makes me feel at home. Scoot, the bouncer, is a lovely soul. I’m always happy to see him. I’m a young woman and he makes sure I’m safe when I’m there. Connor is great. He’s very fun and always greets me with my favorite drink! Paul is an amazing guy. Glad he’s finally a manager. I’ve known all these guys for years and I’m always happy to see them. The drinks are fantastic and the food is also impressively good. Come to the Tavern!

Our hotel happened to be across the street! Lucky us! What a great little spot! Had Salmon BLT, Reuben and Walnut Cranberry Chicken Sandwich and hog wings! Exceptional! Check it out!

Google

Yelp
Great place. Great staff. Great music. Football. Rugby. Great music! Great beer. Plenty of whisk(e)y. And the air is thick with brogue.

Yelp
After a long day helping my daughter n her friends move, I needed a drink. The margarita was nice n strong! Apparently i accidentally deleted the photos of the cocktails the food ‍ We had pizza, n several cocktails. Great neighborhood place.

Yelp
Much like other yelpers have mentioned, the air of this place can be a bit stand-off-ish to outsiders/non-locals. Owner/server was prompt but very dry and quiet. He checked in once about drinks and food, and that was it. We are west coasters so this is just different for us. With that said, parking was a bit confusing and can be a bit weird. Despite these things, the food is the star of the show. My fish was tender and full, the calamari were tender and juicy, and the lamb shepards pie was very flavorful. The best chowder we had during our trip was here. It was so good! The cooks deserve a raise!

Finally made it here! It was everything we imagined, and more. The bartender was also our server. He was efficiently managing the whole place. Started with an appetizer special of corned beef poutine. We also had corned beef pizza and shepherds pie. Yelp
Love this hidden gym they were nice, poured heavy drinks, and had some great food. They even had a live band playing some Raggae music. This was my first time in Boston but when I return I'll definitely be coming back.

Heather G.

Yelp
Fish & Chips were delicious. One plate is enough for two people. Great service and ambiance.

Yelp
My favorite neighborhood spot! I visit here every month or so and always ask myself why I don't come more often. Don't let the location and dive bar facade fool you, the food here is sooo good and it's a favorite local hang among everyone in the neighborhood. The inside has a dark and cozy pub feel, while their large patio out back is a really fun, almost trendy spot to hang out in during the summer. The patio is also dog friendly which is always enough to get me in the door. I highly recommend the fish and chips, wings, and any of the pizza, but I've yet to be disappointed by anything really. The draft beer list is good, but not huge, and they have a full bar to top it off. The staff is also really nice and service is quick. This place is a must for anyone passing through the neighborhood and it's super close to the Sullivan Square T station. I've also heard rumors that they have live music from time to time. TLDR: it's worth a visit :)

Patrick M.

Yelp
Love this local pub! The kitchen prepared most items in house and provide consistently delicious plates. I'm always happy with their corned beef, it's fantastic! Especially the corned beef Benedict in their brunch menu!

Larry A.

Yelp
A real watering hole for real drinkers. Stumbled across this place while looking for a karaoke bar. Didn't see many Filipinos but I felt welcome. Cool place indeed.

David C.

Yelp
this was a hidden treasure for us. It's a very cool little place with really good food. I had the fish and chips some of the best I've had my wife got the beet salad. She was really happy with it. The owner was very accommodating for me as I was in a wheelchair. There was even some local live music, which was a bonus.

Marina G.

Yelp
Great local Irish bar. Cool staff and food is surprisingly great. Stays open until 2 am so expect a rowdy crowd after 12am. Locals love this place for reason. Awesome place to finish your night.

Amy B.

Yelp
Holy mackerel! What a hidden gem! Perhaps the most flavorful Irish breakfast we've had in ages! Seriously. Not sure how the sausage is spiced (sage?) but a lot of complex tastes going on here. I enjoyed the American Irish Skillet - my only criticism is that the American bacon was not crispy but understand that I love my bacon two kisses away from burnt. Can tell from the Guinness draft that they keep the tap lines clean. So key to the proper pint. Unfortunately, a lot of places don't do this. Service was immaculate. The bartender handled the entire floor with poise and grace, always knowing when to check in with guests. Atmosphere was cozy, neighborhood friendly. Folks at the bar were mingling and happily relaxing. Definitely looking forward to our next visit!

Daniel J.

Yelp
Place was a blast, visiting out of town. Went here for lunch and brunch back to back days and it was great. Highly recommend their pizza and corn beef Benedict. Good times at the bar and Jeff and rob are awesome. Great spot to come visit!

Caroline W.

Yelp
Fries were cool to cold on arrival to the table. I had never had steak tips before and maybe won't again. They were a bit tough and seemed like they were marinated to tender up the beef. The salad was good and the house dressing was great!

Peter C.

Yelp
Worst food I have ever had in my intire life I owned a restaurant in Little Italy the North End of Boston for years now I understand why the Sicilian's asked the Irish to leave The greens were not washed you could taste the chemicals, they forgot to put on the dressing, the Reuben looked it was found on a highway in Kansas Absolutely disgusting

Jeff B.

Yelp
Great music. Pub food it's ok. Service can be spotty depending on the crowd but they try hard.

Lynn T.

Yelp
From the minute we walked into this lively Tavern. We liked it. Warmly greeted and taken care of by an excellent manager. There were two people working extremely hard and efficiently. We had read that the food was good. But it was very very good. Our friends had fish and chips. What a portion! Definitely you will never leave this establishment hungry. I had pizza ...exceptional. And my husband said ,his Reuben Sandwich was a great sandwich! Then the music started. A live Irish trio! Great! I am just sad I do not live here. I highly recommend this great place!

Pat T.

Yelp
Stayed at the nearby hotel and this tavern/restaurant was recommended by our shuttle driver. Went there on a Saturday night and we were delighted by the ambience, hospitality, great service and food. A bonus was the small Irish band that was playing. Terrific rueben sandwich, pizza and fish and chips. Pizza had a sweet tasting dough and was baked to perfection. Great beer selection also, and all reasonably priced.

Linda H.

Yelp
This place is Boston. Patriots game on with locals watching and groaning. Everyone was very welcoming. The food was great. The fish and chips had HUGE portions of flavorful fish and their Tatar sauce is great We really enjoyed the food and atmosphere

Carl Z.

Yelp
This Tavern was fabulous! We got a table immediately, and were served pronto. The food was great, the service was impeccable and the experience was top notch. I highly recommend the Tavern at the End of the Earth, just avoid the Holiday Inn Express down the street!!!!

Luv Life C.

Yelp
This is quite an amiable place. I missed my bus at Sullivan Station and decided to kill some time. I stopped in here and had an Irish breakfast which was delicious. The bartender waited on me and he was very kind and pleasant. There appear to be a lot of regulars there, which led to a homey feel to the place. They also have a lovely outdoor seating area. We'll definitely come back sometime!

Chris N.

Yelp
Was pleasantly surprised by the food here? Why didn't I know about this place sooner is a shame. The pizza is on point, the fish and chips good, and the Guinness even better

Tyler B.

Yelp
great bar service. Rented the Airbnb above the place and loved everything about it. The bartenders made sure we knew that "they will take care of us." Great good on top of it all!

Val A.

Yelp
Stopped here on our way out of Boston. We were looking for a good lunch spot with lots of A/C for the summer heat wave. Parking can be tricky since you can only park in the lot after 6pm but we found a spot on the street! We were greeted and sat immediately. They had a large projector which was perfect for watching the World Cup! We ordered 2 Tavern Burgers which were cooked medium rare as we requested. We also ordered a fried fish sandwich which was good but the fish patty was quite thin. The fish and chips were delicious with flaky fresh cod. The fries were perfectly cooked and crisp. Side note : Yelp pictures seem dated or maybe a reflection of their daily specials. There were many Yelp photos of items that weren't on the menu.

Mary N.

Yelp
Met some old friends here for brunch today. We had an excellent meal, enjoyed the tavern atmosphere and the servers were attentive and courteous. One of us had the Full Irish was great, 2 of us had the American breakfast and loved it, one of us had the veggie skillet (wow! excellent!), and one of us had the corned beef eggs bennie (also excellent!). Brunch dishes are hearty and delicious. Definitely will be back here to enjoy a pint of Guinness or a Black and Tan and another meal in the evening!

Zack S.

Yelp
This place is a great Irish pub perfect for a pint and some food. All of the staff were very attentive, friendly and helpful. I had the curry haddock, Carolina wings and the mussels. Everything was absolutely delicious. Cooked right, great flavor and the prices are very reasonable. Of course the beer selection is vast and has something for everyone. Perfect spot to either start or end your night at, with excellent food and service!

Robin S.

Yelp
So im bisexual liberal ...come from a Vet family. Had two drinks and he literally threw my tab at me on the grey plastic trey. . Had some more liberal ideas in this bar...and just got kicked out for my thoughts. No reason. He just asked me to leave. Asked why...no discussion. Came here twice for friends comedy shows. Different vibe. Very homophobic and ideaphobic this time around. felt like i was in the 40s. Horrible. Felt discriminated against by a white man. Never had to write this bad of a review about a bar in my life....used to live in them working in the music business. This was wretched ...and unnecessary hostility.

Anastasia A.

Yelp
Nice place, street parking, interesting decorated. Here are my favorite combination : tomato basil soup and mussels in the menu. I ordered mussels and they're good.

Jennifer M.

Yelp
Great service, great atmosphere and fantastic food. Came here tonight with my fiancée and teenagers gotta table outside. Steak tips, avocado BLT, and Parmesan fries - all were so delicious! I highly recommend this local pub/restaurant to everyone!

Jake M.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and great service. Lots of beers on tap. Definite go to spot when in the area.

Nicole L.

Yelp
I've been coming to this place for awhile now and I have yet to be disappointed. Their curry fries are delicious, their pizzas are divine, and their shepherds pie is hearty and bursting with flavor. Cozy little place right up the street from the train station. Food is always hot and always delicious.

Ken D.

Yelp
Food was very good service was excellent and the bartender is a friendly and make sure you are happy and taken care of

Joe And Jennifer C.

Yelp
You can find Tavern at the End of the World at 108 Cambridge St, Charlestown, MA 02129, right on the edge of Charlestown, Somerville and Bunker Hill. This tavern was recommended to us from the Holiday Inn, about two blocks away as it was within easy walking distance. My traveling companion and I checked in at the nearby Holiday Inn (blog post here) and walked to the Tavern at the End of the World for a quick lunch. This small pub has a rather nondescript exterior and if not for the sign you probably wouldn't know it's there. The tavern is made up of two rooms, the front featuring a full bar and the back some seating (we sat near the lit fireplace) and a small food-counter at one end. I believe t his is more of a local hangout and it was nice to take in some fare and atmosphere. The menu has several pages of bar-food options - some are more typical than others but there seemed to be a great selection. After scoping out the menu we decided on some local draft/craft - I choose a very good Harpoon Munich Ale (that was almost a porter but with a bit of hoppiness) while Sidd selected a nice Samuel Adams Crystal Pale Ale. From the menu, we went directly for items in the Hearty Fare section: Fish and Chips - fresh cod served with our hand cut fires and homemade coleslaw. This was served on a fish-shaped plate which I rather liked. The code was perfectly cooked, light, hot and moist on the inside with a good degree of crunchy breading on the outside. The fries too were quite good. The slaw was not the typical creamy slaw served in the South, rather it was a bit vinegary with the distinct flavor of red wine. I liked it quite a lot. Between it and the tartar sauce I didn't need any malt vinegar, though there was a bottle available on all the tables. I left stuffed. Sidd ordered the Spice Curry (what else?) with vegetables - zucchini, cauliflower, squash, green and red peppers in Napolise sauce. He liked this quite a bit which I found surprising - while it was more than passable it distinctly tasted like your typical curry powder - but perhaps that was what the place was going for, more of a pub-flavor. Service was top notch with the bartender taking our order and acting as server, in a mostly empty place (there were never more than 8-9 people there while we ate and enjoyed our brews). Our server was quite friendly and provided some recommendations on things to do (how we found out about Bunker Hill and some live music going on to the West). More on that in subsequent posts. In all, quite a pleasurable first day in Boston! (also posted to my food blog)

Tirrel C.

Yelp
The best place of Somerville!!!! Especial drinks and song!!! The service is excellent

Randy D.

Yelp
Great little place. Casual atmosphere with good food. Stop in everytime I'm in the area. Usually get the cape cod fish fry but this time got the ribeye and it was very good. Tasty piece of meat cooked perfectly to medium and came with a side of asparagus and mashed potato. Only 6 tables so it can fill up quick. Came in on a Tuesday and it was quiet. 3 tables going. Three guys at the bar. Highly recommended

Christine H.

Yelp
I've only been here once, so a five-star review is totally possible. I had a gig on a Wednesday night in Cambridge and got into town early to avoid traffic. I looked this place up because it was a fusion of Irish and Nepalese cuisine, and I love both. Having been to Ireland a few times, I was hoping to get a bit of nostalgia when I walked in the door. When the owner, still sporting his Irish brogue, meets you as you walk in, you will indeed get all the nostalgia (provided you have experiences that elicit such a feeling). I was the only one in the tavern (3pm - 4pm) but got great service. I got the curry chips (because it's been ages) and the chili. Both were very good for what they are - simple dishes that don't require a lot of fuss. I want to go back with a group of people and partake of the entrees on their menu. Thanks for a great pre-lecture meal, TATEOTW!

Kurt K.

Yelp
They had a local IPA on tap, Harpoon. The place was very quiet at lunch. Seems to have a solid neighborhood around it, guy talked to the bartender about Bob's move, bartender knew exactly who Bob was. Got to love that. Food was alright, my medium hamburger came out a bit dark than it should have. But solid general pub food.

Efraim R.

Yelp
Snap!!!!!! Right next to the hotel.. best bar with. Ton's of Irish variety. Very welcoming lots of beer to choose from. Had a great time here people are very inviting good atmosphere.

Joe M.

Yelp
I came in for the name, but will come back for the food. Charming little pub, It was a pleasure eating here. The steak tips were excellent and of better quality than most places I've tried. Try the Irish brown sauce!

Bryan K.

Yelp
Incredible spot - if you're in the mood for great steak tips and a beer, look no further! Steak tips were cooked perfectly. The bartender was super friendly and attentive, and can't wait to go back.

Alexandra S.

Yelp
My husband and I were driving home from running some errands when we got a call from one of our friends who was at his contracting office in Charlestown, a place we were coincidentally only 5 minutes away from at the time. When we mentioned this fact to him, he told us to swing by to meet up with him. His office is down the street from this tavern and so we decided to go there for a couple of beers. I was pleasantly surprised, having never set foot in here before. Since it was late afternoon, there were only a few others in the bar and dining areas combined. It's a pleasant place with an Irish pub kind of feel. Right off the bat the most impressive thing to me was checking out the terrific list of beers both bottled and draft. It's quite a collection of local, domestic and European brews with many things I'd never heard of nor tried before. Love that! I went with the Rapscallion pale ale they had on draft. I liked that it's a from a local brewery in Holyoke, Massachusetts. We weren't hungry but I did check out the menu and it looked both surprising and good. I'm used to not finding much of anything I can or will eat on most bar menus. Here, there was not only the more typical bar food you'd expect but also a few things veggies could eat. That's a plus for sure. There's a cool looking jukebox here with great selections. I love a good jukebox. This place also has live music some evenings. I'm only giving this place 3 stars because I haven't tried the food and I haven't seen what it's like when it's really hopping. Being there on a late afternoon with only a few other patrons makes it difficult to know how it all shakes out under more typical circumstances For us, the service was attentive and friendly, the beer selections interesting and good, the prices reasonable and the atmosphere down to earth and comfortable. And hurray, there's a clean bathroom. This place is in a spot convenient to the Sullivan Square environs but is otherwise in a bit of an industrial, forlorn-ish looking area. I would definitely return though if only to try more from the cool beer list and have a nosh.

Damien S.

Yelp
Big fan of what's going on at the end of the world. From the shoddy exterior, you'd expect an inside most decrepit, serving townies only and boasting chairs with tennis balls on the legs. Hey, it happens. But nay nay! Immaculate, bright split-room with a bar on one side and a dining area-turned-live music scene on the other. The menu is pub fare with more than a couple twists: organic chicken wings, lamb burgers and salmon toasties on Iggy's Bread to name a few. Beer selection runs the gamut from local craft (Slumbrew, Pretty Things) to rare and somewhat out-of-place imports (Abita, Three Philosophers, Crispin cider). Not complaining in the slightest - there's a sud for everyone. Opted for the fish and chips ($11) and a side of curry sauce for m'chips. The former: thickly battered with no grip on the flaky fish, but quite enjoyable especially when slathered with the house-made tartar derivative. Fries are thinner cut russets, simply cooked and seasoned. Splash the London Pub malt vinegar or do yourself the dollar favor and get the curry - it's spectacular. Service is prompt, and there were a lot of surprised "It's good!" replies to the mandatory round table of "How's yours?" Of particular note, Larry C gave two thumbs up to his Very Good Chili (so says the menu) and Andy B destroyed his simple cheeseburger. A single, muted TV doesn't make for the best sports bar and solid food removes it from the dive running, but I'll definitely go running back after the next kickball victory. Food's right and the space is proper, plus free parking in the rear. Hip hop hooray!

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
Buffalo brussels sprouts were delicious! Super tasty food, prompt and friendly service. They do an open mic night on Sundays so we got to see and hear some very talented folks do original songs and great covers. One of the servers has an incredible voice and performed a few songs she wrote! Next time I'm in Boston, I will definitely come back here. They got me thinkin bout those sprouts. If you're reading this, TATEOTW, fax me some? Pls?

Hunter G.

Yelp
Incredible food, great service, amazing beer, super affordable, and a great crowd. This place was made to be a regular. Perfect for watching soccer & rugby games as well. Come on the weekend to get the Irish breakfast!

Paul C.

Yelp
Kenney greated us and offered the right food suggestions. Our Guinness, poured properly, brought us back to Ireland. The session musicians were a bonus! Will stop her again.

Robert L.

Yelp
Visited this location for dinner. It's not a big place, it is very dark inside. We ordered steak tips and Shepherds Pie. The steak tips were very good. The fries that came with weren't great, not awful. My wife poured vinegar & salt on them and enjoyed them. Sheppard's Pie was ok. Mashed potatoes were good. The beer I had was good and cold. The atmosphere was very loud. We sat in the back part of the bar. Maybe sounds are amplified there? I think it's great for drinking with friends. Not so much for eating and quiet conversation.

Ed R.

Yelp
Love this place always go here for a quick bite and my chimays!! Keep up the good work! They remodeled and its under new manegement looks great will be back as always!

Jan B.

Yelp
I had the turkey rueben sandwich and it was good but it came with fries and they were completely disappointing and burnt.

Grace U.

Yelp
Guiness was something else. Comedians weren't funny but hey, that's not the bars fault
