A restaurant that Janie swears by, says it "could be the next Fanelli's"... which OK!

Tavern on Jane in the West Village is a charming spot with an inviting tavern vibe. It’s the perfect spot to stop by for a beer or a glass of wine. The atmosphere, complete with a large counter and lively diners, is its standout feature. The service was attentive and friendly, adding to the warm environment. I had the buffalo burger, which was cooked medium-rare to perfection—nice although lacking a hint of salt in my opinion and then, for my sweet tooth craving, I went for a dark chocolate brownie topped with vanilla ice cream which was delish! The food is okay only not extremely memorable. Overall, it’s a great place to soak in the ambiance and enjoy good company.

This is our second visit, we immediately recognized our previous staff that facilitated our experience. We knew the food was good, the location was prime with too much people watching 🤣, no really it was so nice withe shade trees and blocked off street. Ask for Michael, she was awesome.

The Best subdued authentic old school pub I have been to downtown. Excellent, Drinks, Food and service in a pleasant clean pub/restaurant like atmosphere. Will visit again soon.

My favorite place in the whole West Village. Have been coming here for years. It is just a basic pub, with good amount of seating and decent bar food. Service can be little bad in busy hours esp. in the outdoor seating.

8/24/24 back for dinner with the GF. We sat outside, great service. We split a bottle of white, nice. *No glass outside* We had the Smithfield Fries and split the Creekstone burger, they were out of Brussels sprouts so we got broccoli. I liked the Smithfield fries but the distribution of pork, cheese and other stuff could have been better than just piled on top. Also the fries are still on the short side.... The burger was really good. It's a cool place, certainly worth a meal. Beer selection is ok but nothing outstanding, mostly typical brews. Summer 2021: First time here, with friends. Service was great. We sat outside in the street tent, nice tables and chairs. I had the Jane street burger, it was good. The fries were small and battered, not my favorite preparation but they were ok. I'd prefer to have longer fries and not battered. The beer was good too.

I’m kinda conflicted. I loved the vibe, this is the type of neighborhood joint that has all but disappeared from NYC. It’s charming! Old school bar/tavern vibes, friendly folks and staff. Servers are working hard. My drink was awful, an Old Fashioned that came out with a weird orange color, not sure what happened there. My friend got a wine that was a generous pour and he enjoyed it. Mixed reviews on the entrees. My husband loved his daily special pork chop. My burger (I think it was called Santa Fe, with chilies on top)was poorly formed and a bit of a mess. Our friend’s Asian salad seemed ok. We didn’t love the apple crumb cake caramel dessert. I think we’ll be back to give it another try. Maybe I’ll stick to wine. They have a nice menu.

Lovely old tavern with great food. Wonderful wait staff and warm vibe. The shrimp risotto was over the top good and the saracha chicken sandwich with fries was excellent.

Google
Craving wings today, so I tried this local spot that I have passed hundreds of times. It is the perfect example of a neighborhood pub with friendly relaxed service and an old school vibe. The reason for the 5 stars is that the wings were absolutely spot on: good crunch, well sauced, clean oil, and high quality plump and tender chicken. Much better than other places in the hood that specialize in wings...I want to try more of the menu when I definitely return, but I may never stray from those wings.

Yelp
We had a great time. Perfect stop on the way to our hotel. Very friendly bartender and lots of locals. Buffalo wings and drinks were superb.

Yelp
Service Good and local style ! Relaxing place in NYC close to Chelsea area. Country music is a plus!

Pegah T.

Yelp
I was very disappointed at the burger! The burger was burnt the Brussel sprouts were burnt but we were too shy and hungry to ask for another one and tried to finish it but I very much regret it! I liked the ambiance though! It was cute during Christmas. The service was ok.

Mark R.

Yelp
I love the Tavern. I can count on it for good conversation-good drinks-good food & good service.
google avatar

Yelp
Some slightly elevated brunch options but many things were just overpriced basics. The value here is that this bar has one of the most laid back vibes, perhaps the best overall vibe, in the West Village.

Yelp
The food here was subpar at best. It was decently priced for New York tho. Our waiter did an amazing job with our party! We were a larger party and he was very attentive to us. We got seated in a secluded area away from the rest of the resturant which was nice.

Yelp
The Tavern is a cozy bar with tables across two back dining rooms. Our food is good to very good; a Jane Street Burger ($24) and a Cobb Salad, small ($17). We had plenty of food for us two. We drank a Rittenhouse Manhattan ($18) and Vermentino ($13 glass). The cocktail was very good. Our service was pleasant. We'll keep this on our list of places to eat when we're in the neighborhood. SHOUT OUT to Mackenzie S. for pleasant service. TIP The location convenient is to the Whitney Museum of American Art and 6 major subway lines.

Yelp
Ideal tavern with a great atmosphere and solid food. For being in the West Village, also not terribly expensive. Always a crowd but with a short wait. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Tavern on Jane is an absolute gem! It is a charming, rustic spot tucked away in the West Village. It's warm and inviting with friendly staff who make you feel right at home. The food is nothing short of exceptional! The menu has an array of mouthwatering dishes. We tried the Jane Street Burger and the Grilled Steak Sandwich- unbelievable!! Can't forget to mention the freshness of their ingredients brings a scrumptious aroma to the table as you're served. We were not disappointed! To add a little fun to your dining experience they also provide crayons and a paper sheet atop the table!

Yelp
Love to go to Tavern on Jane whenever I'm nearby. They have a wonderful selection of beers and other alcoholic beverages. The atmosphere is very old world New York, and the servers I've had have all been lovely! The food is always good and filling. Would recommend to anyone, local or tourist.

Yelp
Tip top atmosphere with a smattering of jolly silver haired socialites. The decor and coziness make me feel like I'm stepping back in town to the romantic Manhattan of old. My personal order: martini appetizer, beer and wings. Their original buffalo bone-in wings are perfectly crispy, juicy, and saucy. I could eat them every day.

Yelp
Came here after working up an appetite helping my friend move into the West Village. It was moderately full, and were given our option of tables. I liked the ambiance of candles and was a huge fan of the paper table clothes and crayons for writing on while waiting for the food. Honestly it made the time fly by, but I think the food actually came out quite fast. The burger was huge and honestly I wondered how to eat it, but decided I would just get my hands (and face) a bit messy. The fries were actually quite amazing with a great tasting batter and a perfect crisp . Sadly the taste of the burger was lacking and it was a bit too dry, otherwise this would've been a home run. A bit pricey so unless the burger was a bit better I probably wouldn't return.

Yelp
Wow i what a find this place had been here since 1995 I think . Had a delicious Heffen weizen appeal sprit and a pino grigio food wise crispy Brussel sprouts excellent and split peas soup was fantastic and a burger also was very good . Service was friendly and informative I would definitely come back it's open til 4am!

Yelp
You're not coming here for gourmet food. You're coming here for the cozy, friendly, gritty, laidback at atmosphere. It's an old school bar/pub, covered in brilliant wood. The bartender greeted me as soon as I walked in. My server was attentive and called me "love," and somehow it didn't bother me. The bartender checked on me a few times as well. I ordered the steak frites, but was actually served the steak sandwich (the price was the same, so I didn't complain). The bread was crispy and well toasted. It's wasn't the most luxurious cut of steak, but they cook it as ordered (I ordered medium). It came with sautéed shallots and was well seasoned. The fries were super hot, crispy, and battered, which tells me this place probably has fish and chips out of this world (it's on the menu). The lunch menu is mainly sandwiches and burgers. A few salads are there too. Dinner menu also has some sandwiches, but also things like pork chops, salmon, pasta, wings, and oysters. I had a mule, which was mediocre and alcohol heavy, but again, you're not coming here for a craft cocktail program.

Yelp
Our go to bar anytime we are in the West Village. Food here is also great boneless buffalo wings are the best.

Yelp
Solid pub/tavern with good service. My friend and I were able to be seated right away and there's a lot of options on the menu. Good location and would come back for a beer at the bar!

Yelp
We ordered the salmon at $32 and the Tavern burger at $22. They were a disappointment. The salmon was accompanied by basmati rice . when we complained about the tiny portion of rice, our server said the chef was running out of rice but she would go check. She came back embarrssed because the chef apparently had told her in so many words to buzz off. It was a good thing that we didn't get a bigger portion of rice, because it was terribly prepared and tasteless. It seemed to be warmed over left overs or the kind of quick rice that is steamed in a plastic bag. The salmon was greasy so it was good we ordered the butter sauce on the side as it would not have helped the dish at all. The burger was great , but the pickles were pale and tasteless like a supermarket no-brand, and the cole slaw was had the slippery consistency of something that was ladled out of a large can whose contents had expired. There seemed to be very little care in the preparation of the food, as if they couldn't be bothered , ecept to prepare and present the bare minimum. The Tavern used to be great affordable place to eat....always loved the cobb salad and the lunch menu.. But it seems the chef or the kithen staff have changed, and they don't care what they serve. We used to be regulars since we live in the neighborhood. It is still a nice tavern with a great vibe at the bar. . But we are telling our friends to stay away from the food.

Yelp
Best service, great prices, good food - even better bloody Mary's. Really impressed by the attention from not only our waitress but the bartender. Family of 5 came here during the World Cup. Lovely atmosphere, the brunch price fixe menu @ only $28 per person was a no brainer. Bloody Mary's are awesome. Food is great. What more can you ask for??

Yelp
Food was good. I ordered just chicken wings. Great customer service. This is a typical New York bar. Be quick with your order. Bartender was a little douche. Definitely will come again. Great place for date night or get together.

Yelp
Definitely one of our favorite places in the West Village. Always great food and service and great value as well. Best burger in NYC! Ridiculously good! Huge salads as well.
google avatar

Yelp
One of the best haunts in NYC and a favorite place to write. Open late with great drinks and fast service. Generally chill enough to enjoy a date night, but when it's packed it's also a damn fun time.

Yelp
Classic gastropub with a historic feel in the West Village. Service was prompt and friendly, it was definitely a popular spot but there were still a few empty tables despite it being a Friday evening. We got the Santa Fe burger and the Buffalo chicken wrap, both of which were delicious. Appreciated that the wrap was not drowned in Buffalo sauce like many other places. The burgers come with panini-pressed buns which is a unique touch. The wrap is a pretty good deal at $16, whereas the burgers start at $18 but if you want cheese and other additions it can go up to $24. Their cocktails were also good and reasonably priced for the area. I enjoyed the old fashioned made although it was quite a small glass.

Yelp
I don't no where to begin. Everything is awful. Ordered thru seamless. Food arrived 15 min late because the delivery guy couldn't find the building, so starting out with cold food. The 'southern' wings - basically pre-breaded wings dropped in a fryer. Basically what you get from Tyson in the freezer aisle. If you want all calories and no flavor, this is for you. But the real winner is the max a cheese. It's kind of pasta, with a watery 'cheese' sauce. You can drink it if you like. I can't remember a meal this bad. And now i have to order something totally new as this is borderline inedible

Yelp
My girlfriend and I were in the area with my daughter and decided to try this place out. Once we stepped in, I noticed it wasn't too big but felt cozy. The waitress was extremely helpful and friendly with us. We started off with the crab cake sliders. They were good and filling. Only drawback was lack of seasoning to the crab cake itself. Then we ordered a kids burger for my daughter, and a turkey burger for me and for my girlfriend! She had hers with the pimento cheese and I had mine with pepper jack cheese. The pimento cheese was delicious! Tasted better than the pepper jack. Burger was not too juicy but not too dry either. The purple jam that came with the burgers brought the flavor to intriguing levels. Brought something different that I never had on a burger before. Overall, this place was great. It was open outside the times listed on here. Not sure if it's because of the season.

Yelp
The Food is always good. If I am craving a burger and fries, Jane is my go to place and their Wednesday meatloaf special is definitely worth the trip. The Wait Staff is professional and friendly. We are Regulars and they make us feel like Family. The Restaurant itself has a cozy casual inviting atmosphere. It feels like your favorite corner Pub. I cannot recommend Jane highly enough.

Yelp
Consistently good food and service. Not just bar food. Solid menu with many choices. With warmer weather the outdoor seating in the shade is awesome.
google avatar

Yelp
What a hidden gem. Five star for service Five star for the food Five star for the ambience and the crayons on the table to allow you to express your self using the paper tablecloth. I came here for drinks and a vegetarian dinner and I was so happy. It was the best brussels sprouts I ever had. Then I had the pasta And it is a very big serving. You could share it with a friend that's how big it is. I strongly recommend to come back here.
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
Very comfortable tavern in West Village. Fantastic fish and chips. Largest order I've ever had. I'll be back soon.
google avatar

Kortnee L.

Yelp
Amazing menu - classic and Irish. Love the portion size and spirit selections! Generic and delightful. Matty (busser) made our experience extremely enjoyable. Went on a rainy Sunday afternoon, it was mellow and inviting. They have white paper on the table with crayons! Very kid friendly. Specials can be seen on the mirrored wine board to your left when looking at the bar. Great pub to dip into if your in the West Village. Monica is also a great team member that can answer any questions you may have about availability of product. Lovely WV local joint!
google avatar

Yelp
We chose this place for a couple reasons one of them being it wasn't too busy, which should of been a sign as all the other places were slammed. Service wasn't great, she was quite short and rude. food was decent

Jaclyn C.

Yelp
I have traveled the world, mainly the continental US, in search of the best Buffalo chicken wrap. I can tell you with the utmost certainty that Tavern on Jane has the best Buffalo chicken wrap in existence. I will be here at least once a week to indulge in this heavenly wrap (which they grill the wrap itself by the way) and will not ever seek out another Buffalo chicken wrap again. Tavern on Jane, you have changed my life forever. See you next week.
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
This was a pleasant surprise. Very busy. Great service and the food was good. Definitely worth a try if you're in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Had a delicious burger and meatballs. One of the best burgers I've had. Great waitress; loved her recommendations. Super friendly. Nice manager/owner. Good location. Nice vibe. Definitely would go back next time we're in New York.

Yelp
Fresh food, great service and convenience- great neighborhood spot. Came down from the Highline looking for a quick bite- easy to find and very welcoming

Nelly H.

Yelp
The foo was excellent and the ambiance was really nice. I would highly recommend to a friend.

Yelp
We love this place! We originally discovered Tavern on Jane when we came in just for a glass of wine & app before dinner Thanksgiving weekend 2018, since then we have been hooWe live in New Orleans & even our 9 year old cant get enough of the cheese balls when we come to New York City. It's a must stop on the trip! She even requested we go here for her special dinners when she gets good grades! The staff is amazing, very friendly and never makes you feel like a number. Our usual order is the cheese balls, children's cheeseburger, raspberry habanero chicken wings & Caesar salad. Also great place to watch a game- tv's line the bar!

Diane D.

Yelp
Good food, service and atmosphere with reasonable for NYC prices! Close to the Whitney and Little Island.

Yelp
This is a neighborhood standby for my best friend and I when I visit him in the city. Always a charming and authentic NYC spot, Tavern has only been enhanced in its glory with the addition of one of the more glorious outdoor spots you can imagine in the city--a large patio tucked on a quiet low traffic or possibly even dead end/no traffic side street in the scenic west village. Food is always quite successful--whether you go for standard "tavern" fare and stick to their ever excellent burger, try to hew healthy and go with an option like their excellent, colorful and flavorful beet salad, or go full entree with something like their salmon or half roasted chicken, you will have a large and tasty meal and leave here sated. Part of its charm to me lies in its feel as an authentic, old school NY spot. As such, service can be a bit more relaxed than you might be used to in New York--always friendly, oft quirky, but sometimes a bit slow. Generally this would irk me in NY, but this feels like the kind of place where you want to linger for a couple of drinks anyway and feels like part of its charm. Mixed drinks are strong here; wine selection solid. I do wish they had a better and more adventurous draft beer list, but, hey--you can never go wrong with a Guinness, right?
google avatar

Elsbeth S.

Yelp
Never not a vibe in here and servers/bartenders are very nice! Loaded fries are so good and cosmos are strong- love this place.
google avatar

Mikey H.

Yelp
We were wandering around the West Village, in the evening, and looking for somewhere to eat. Lots of places...crowded places...and then we saw Jane. Menu looked good! Friendly greeting, said we could sit anywhere. They have tall tables in the front and a dining area in the back. We sat in the middle. Good AC! They have a good wine list and we scored a Malbec. The menu has a wide variety of food...comfort foods...which as tourists, we welcomed. I ordered a cup of the seafood chowder. Good flavor, although a little more seafood would've been nice. I also ordered the Jane Street burger which was cooked perfectly! The fries were a little limp but I was hungry, so it didn't matter since I ate them all...LOL! Daveed had the spaghetti and meatballs. He said the flavors were good, but wished some bread came with and a little more parmesean. Service was friendly and attentive. They started to fill up as we finished eating. This is a very good place to come to without feeling cramped in some of the other restaurants. If I lived nearby, I'd probably come here once or twice a week!
google avatar

Paul S.

Yelp
Cool place to stop by for a bite ans drink. Mainly a beer bar but has a decent food selection. I got the burger and really like it, I didn't expect much just walking in but staff is friendly.

Kate P.

Yelp
We had a lovely dinner here with parents and 2 kids. The atmosphere is very old school. The food was high quality. The tables have paper and crayons for kids to draw. Service was great. I would go back.
google avatar

Lin K.

Yelp
Went today and it was excellent! Veggie frittata was delicious and came with a side of flavorful breakfast potatoes and sliced cantaloupe. My friend got the breakfast burger which was also amazing, highly recommend both dishes. Not many places like this where you can get tasty breakfast / brunch items, and coffee refills :) Service was super friendly as well Their outdoor dining setup is also awesome, large tent so we were covered from the rain, and it's on a quiet side street, so you don't have to deal with passers by on a sidewalk.
google avatar

Mary K.

Yelp
Had brunch here on Sunday afternoon, and enjoyed it. They don't take reservations, but we were a group of 4 and arrived just before noon and didn't have to wait. Their COVID setup is good. Jane street is closed to traffic between Hudson and 8th, so tables are well-spaced out in the street. Staff wore masks the entire time. They're using plastic cups for water and drinks which was fine for water, but I didn't love my champagne in the plastic cup. We each did the prix fixe brunch menu which gets you an entree plus a pastry basket (to share), coffee or tea, and a mimosa/bloody Mary/wine/beer. Portions were not over-sized, but we didn't leave hungry. Great value for the price and delicious food!
google avatar

Jack P.

Yelp
It's like a run-of-the-mill pub, but better. Frequently order takeout. The burgers are terrific.

Eric C.

Yelp
Went there on a rainy night knowing nothing about the place. Loved the atmosphere, not fake upscale glitz but comfortable in a pre Yuppie Greenwich Village sort of way. I had the veggie taco. Everything was prepared fresh. My wife had the mussels. Good food, fair prices. Only downside is it's popularity.
google avatar

Anggie B.

Yelp
Pretty convenient, can sit in bar or tables. It look like an old house, cozy.. Had oyster as appetizer, and it is wow. Fresh and the sauce makes it perfect. Entree was burger and salmon. Was very good, not fantastic, but good :) Service is very good.

Bud F.

Yelp
Great neighborhood place. Tasty food, friendly service. Not the trendiest, not the flashiest, not the diviest.

Milton B.

Yelp
Burgers just ok tasting & overcooked. Very pricey for what you get.
