Super chill atmosphere. Food is great and drinks are affordable and great. Dorothy and Ashley are just fantastic bartenders. Always super friendly, happy to help and extremely personable. Definitely my new favorite regular haunt. I got wings and they were big and delicious!

Bartenders are super sweet, great vibes any time of the day. The food was awesome, they have specials. Can’t wait to try the chicken pot pie next

Small local bar on a corner of a beautiful old downtown garland. Right in front of the park with tables outside, small, local, affordable drinks, most of the times I’ve gone there have been after work. The bartenders have been amazing every time, friendly , helpful and attentive every time. I tried the nachos once and they were so good. Will keep coming back in the future. Chill, good location and affordable prices would be the things I like from this Tavern.

When there tonight for the first time ever dressed as the grinch and it was awesome. Good vibes good people. The music wad amazing and everyone just haven fun. I do recommend this place.

Great spot along the Garland town-square. Mix of regulars at the bar-counter and local tourists coming through. Cold beer and friendly staff - couldn’t ask for more!

We were looking for something new and happened across Tavern on the Square- this place is unassuming but an absolute gem that I'm so glad we found. Everything looked good on the menu so I asked the waitress for recommendations. She was so kind in pointing out options on various parts of the menu (from salads to starters to sandwiches). My husband got a burger and I got the turkey club sandwich, both were excellent as was the follow-up service. The presentation was also, unexpectedly, beautiful. The food isn't the only thing that stood out though. You could tell this was a neighborhood establishment and what I loved most was that we walked in off the street, clearly never having been there before, and everyone talked to us. They were friendly and welcoming and happy to tell us about the history of the bar as well as about some of the regulars. They told us about music bingo, nights with different specials, community involvement, and about the chef who had been with the catering facility 17 years. It had such a welcoming and small-town feel, we will absolutely be back.

Bar like atmosphere. The waitress, Ashley, was Awesome!! My burger was good, my fries were better. My friends taco salad with Brisket was Amazing, she said!! Will have to try that ne t time 😉

I really enjoy this small eatery. We’ve never been rushed and the food is consistently good. Wide range of menu items, so everyone in your group should find something to please their palate. One note, regarding their Ahi Tuna salad plate. Their Ahi Tuna salad plate is served raw rather than rare as stated in the menu. The owner was kind enough to have the kitchen lightly sear the tuna, which made it perfect for me!

Date night and wanted to do something random for a quick drink . Came for Halloween and the bartenders We're friendly and gave us a shot On the house . Music was on point and the hospitality was great. Would definitely return to try the menu.

Stopped in for a beer, this place is on the corner and kinda blends in on the outside but was a cool bar with food inside. Very glad I, came in. Looking forward to coming back and trying the food

We were here on Sunday for a late lunch around 3pm. Not many people, so I was worried about the food. Let's just say that's not an issue. The food was great and very nicely plated. We had flowers on our plates...fancy. Our server was also fantastic. Living in Plano we forget how close and nice downtown Garland is. We will be going back.

Tavern has great customer service. Ashley and Dorothy are 2 of the best, most hospitable and prompt bartendresses the town has to offer. With excellent food and a town home environment, this bar is the place to be. E.J.

We've been to the Tavern quite a few times over the years. Service is excellent, as is the food. We LOVE the chicken pot pie! Best ever and other options are well-liked, too.

Went here in between soccer games with some of our kids and they were very accommadating. It's a small place but clean and great prices. Jenny was a great bartender/server. She helped out large group and was very friendly. Would recommend! We will be back if in the area again.

Let me start with OMG. I wasn't expecting much but dang was I surprised. The bartender Dorothy was busy but very attimate. Served with delicious drink very quickly, and ordered texas toast. I was skeptical at first because I make my own food at home... But thus reminded me of home! Love it and will definitely be back next week! Ps garland square is where it's at!

I enjoyed the service, the vibe was good, people were cool, the bar was nice and tidy. The drinks are good. Great place to eat, drink & chill. Dorothy, Ashley, Yami, Laura, Jeanie they are all good bartenders. I keep coming back because I like the bartenders, the food & the drinks.

The Tavern is always awesome! We have great time and have been coming here for years! Ashley, Laura, Jenny, Yami, and Dorothy are always amazing. I hope they receive all the accolades they deserve.

We moved out of downtown Garland about a year ago and this is one of the places we wish was still around the corner! They have great lunch specials and are a great spot to meet with friends and share some drinks and appetizers.

The Tavern on the Square was a great place for our Sunday brunch. Our waitress, Jeanie, was personable, fun and very efficient and made great recommendations. The owner, Alice, takes great pride in running a tight ship and putting customer satisfaction above all else. I had the 3 Egg Omelet and it was surprising uniquely tasteful and beautifully presented. We learned that the chef, John Johnston, has been there 20 years and has his own catering business. I was not surprised! Everything about our meals was tasteful and attractive. The Tavern itself has window views of the square and is right on the corner so you feel like you are in the heart of Garland in a very homey atmosphere. I have been there once before and enjoyed my second visit even more than the first. I highly recommend it!

I love this bar! And restaurant! There is something for everyone! all ages! The food is prime and the staff is always attentive and friendly! Ashley was awesome today during the lunch shift!

This place is amazing, my partner and I come all the time! The brisket macaroni and cheese sandwich is one of the best meals I've had in ages, and the employees work really hard- which I really appreciate. If you're ever in the area, I can't recommend Tavern on the Square enough!

Great neighborhood restaurant. Wednesday night Music Bingo is a lot of fun and you can win gift cards and money? Chicken Pot Pie is one of my favorite GO-TO's. The chicken pot pie filling is flavorful and plenty. Add to that the flaky wonderful crust on top makes for an amazing meal (every time).

Came here for the first time and what a great experience I had from the moment I walked in the door. Dorothy, amazing person, she is welcoming and I love her energy! I think I'm going to end up being a regular here just cuz of her food and drinks were on point! Will recommend!

We decided to try this for the first time for lunch. I heard people saying they had great food. Our waitress staff was very friendly. The restaurant was clean. I'm not sure on the bathrooms. I didn't go that far. They have a lot of options like other restaurants but enough. We got the for dip appetizer. The dips were good but not great. I felt like they needed more seasoning or just some salt and pepper. The salsa was kind of bland and the guacamole so fresh looking. I did love their chips and the black bean dip though. My husband got his burger first and enjoyed it. I had to wait on my food a little bit longer. I got a margarita, pizza and a side of fries. fries were actually pretty tasty and warm. The margarita pizza had a beautiful presentation which I loved. The pizza was OK. I felt it was lacking in flavor. Tomatoes didn't seem very fresh and the cheese didn't really taste like anything. I think there is room for improvement and it could be become a great little spot. I was just disappointed since it was kind of an early lunch for anniversary tomorrow.

First time here. We planned to eat at Intrinsic but the line to order was almost halfway to the door. We did go back to hear the Karaoke as that was our original plan for dining and entertainment. Walked in to Tavern and no one was at the door to greet or seat us, so I walked up to the bar & told the bartender we were first timers. She sat us and was our server. Place was packed and staff, including our server doubling as a bartender, seemed overwhelmed, assumed short-staffed. Food was good size portions at reasonable prices. Reason for the 3-star is lack of service when we entered and because a guest was vaping at the bar, and no one seemed to care or notice. White male, ball cap, shorts, white athletic shoes, mid to late 40s or 50's. With so many options for food in Garland, we probably won't be back.

Relaxed local bar with great eats and good service! They even support the community and local Girl Scouts!

Service was great. Catfish, however, was not good. Like tasted off. Did not eat. Brought the issue to staff but still got charged. I want to support this place but they make it very hard.

A great restaurant/bar with emphasis on the restaurant because we are in a pandemic and bars are still ordered to be closed. In addition to great food and a great atmosphere, Tavern on the Square is home to awesome live entertainment, including open mic comedy. Ambiance was great, they played a lot of Spanish music!! Drinks were 10/10 !! Just hoped they'd stayed open for longer!! especially on Fridays & Saturdays they kicked us out by midnight on a Friday night

It was our first time visiting Tavern On The Square on Tuesday. The bartender was very nice and the food was delicious! 10/10 would recommend. The mozzarella sticks only come with 3 but they are huge! ** Also, the menu on yelp is not current! I know for sure they no longer offer the sliders, I'm not sure what else has changed!

I've been ripped off before... But this might just take the title of Biggest Rip Off. Eclipse Day... After popping into the absolutely swamped Intrinsic, I mistakenly gave Tavern another (final) chance... as they were hardly full. And hey, a $4 Deep Eddy Vodka Monday special. Not bad! They were hardly staffed, so apparently it was a good thing they didn't have an overwhelming crowd like literally every other place on the square. (It was nice not waiting in a long line to order, with a toddler... But the service was still about as long, overall.) The poor bartender was being barked at by (guessing the owner) Alice, after making my drink, while I checked the menu. Ordered the black and blue burger. She asked me temperature. Medium. We sat outside and they found us to bring the burger. Sooooo WELL done... Bacon and bleu cheese crumbles, but no sauce, dressing, anything. Tried to add some mayo from the table, but that wasn't saving this dry puck. The two behind the bar didn't come outside unless they absolutely had to (like the girl coming to ask if I was me, to then return with the food and bring my 2nd drink)... Being with a toddler outside, it would have been nice to be checked on at literally any point in time, as I couldn't go in... But I guess what do you expect when there's 2 people to a half full place........ Not having time to let them try again, I finally pulled the bus boy from the other side of the patio, to get some bleu cheese dressing for my very over cooked burger. (It's not the first dry burger I've had to choke down, but it's the most expensive!) Meanwhile I couldn't figure out why my drink tasted... different? Finally I realized she must have put soda, instead of Sprite. Was able to pop in... and wait... and wait.... and wait... Since the one bartender is busy in the kitchen with, what I overheard was a mixed up to go order... (so it's not just literally everything they do for me that's not working out for them. Cool.) And Alice is... setting up some buffet thing in the corner or something. As more people line up behind me trying to order drinks/arrive. Finally get a remake on my drink and back to my $15 dry, but now dripping in sauce burger, and mediocre at best, soft fries. Went in to pay, no one behind the bar, so went to the restroom, where I also changed a diaper, wash hands etc... and still had to wait for someone to come back to the bar. Hand the card over and... the printer runs out of paper as it was running the charge. So I get asked to check my bank statement to make sure I got changed... Lol. I check, and in the confusion and thorough dissatisfactiom, I didn't pay attention to the amount, and stupidly didn't take the printed receipt. Got across the street and check my bank again to see it's like $6 more than I expected, since I had a $15 burger and two $4 drinks... Go back in to ask and get told, "Oh. That's because we aren't usually open on Mondays, so no, that special wasn't in effect..." I said, "You're not open on Monday's, but have a Mon special on the board?" Alice says, "Oh, well, we usually don't open till 3 on Monday's." Well... That would have been REALLY nice to know that you weren't honoring the advertised specials for the day... That never listed a time, just the day. I told her that literally everything was not the best experience, and she said she knew and felt bad... That was it. Bad feelings all around, I guess. This was one of the first flops downtown, for us, since things started moving in years ago... Just trying too hard to be a lot fancier than anything you ever recieve, food or service, and it's never worth half the price you pay... Just got WAIT at a busy place and you'll have a better experience, for sure.

Fun little neighborhood bar! Downtown Garland doesn't have a ton of options but if you're there, check this place out. Small hole in the wall that the locals love! They have decent food, great service and a DJ on the weekends. Only negative is that it closes way too early for a bar!

I have to give this place at least two stars because the bartender was really sweet. I will be going back to try their food but I couldn't stay very long because I couldn't get past the loud music playing on the tv. One of the customers had control of the remote and he was playing Jelly Roll with profanity and singing along just as loud as the music was playing. It really took away from the ambiance and my husband and I decided to come back another time and we just had a water and a beer. A really big turn off that we really just couldn't get past.

Food was excellent. We got the Mac and cheese for my little one and it tasted like my Mamma was in the kitchen making it. I had the herb crusted salmon - cooked perfectly. Hubby got the morning side burger - he ate the huge burger in 10 min tops - too good to put down. My son got the cheeseburger and loved it. Service was 5-star as well. Will definitely be back!!

Not really a tavern - it's a bar. So, I was a little embarrassed taking my senior citizen aunt here, but she liked it and the food was really good. So, they are A-OK in my book (although I would probably come alone next time.

The music is vibrating the floor...........sooooo great!! If you don't come back for the $4 specials you need to be hear for the music on the weekend!!! The floor is vibrating b'cause the DJ is that good¡!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is 2 seconds away from being a club!!!! Get your club vibe on but get drink on too!!! It's a mix of what you want and want you need..... Not many specials but but at least it's only $4,50!!!

While the food was okay the bar tender spent most of his time hitting on my wife. LOL he's a putz! Spend your money at another bar this place is the pits!

Friendly, welcoming, neighborhood tavern. Not your typical bar food. Food is presented beautifully. We love the Wednesday night music bingo.

Good food but bothered me that the Mayo stays out on the tables along with the mustard, ketchup, salt and pepper. Clearly states on bottle refrigerate after opening and our table it had definitely been opened. I worried about the Mayo on my BLT

This place has delicious food. I have lived in Garland since 1986 and my first time here and it won't be the last! Had the burger sliders and the texas twinkies.

the bartender was very short when my friend and I went for our first time. we ordered the 4 dip special or something with Salsa, Guacamole, Black beans, Brisket queso..... there was THE LONGEST STRAIGHT HAIR in our queso!!!! we finally were able to flag the bartender down after she hadn't checked on us since she brought the tray out, meanwhile the bar was half full but overall not very many people. she really didn't say anything whenever she came and we explained to her nicely what was going on. she simply took everything and never came back to let us know anything. we sat there for over 10 minutes waiting for some kind of response before ultimately leaving enough money on the table for the total bill and even a tip for her so she still had something rather than nothing. The only good thing out of the experience was the DJ, definitely safe to say that we will not be coming back.

Kayla is so fun, down to earth and knows the community vibe. Drinks are reasonable, food was just appetizer but can't wait to come back on Taco Tuesdays!

Had heard good things about this place, decided to finally give it a try. Definitely gives a tavern kind of feel, darker, cool interior, big variety of music playing, not ostentatious at all. Our server was just the right amount of attentive and friendly. We got the chips with beefy queso, very good, added bonus of warm chips. Then, the big item, the charcuterie platter. Holy moly, generous does not do it justice (maybe my picture does). Points for presentation, size, and quality. We couldn't come close to finishing it after the chips and queso, and when we asked for a to-go container, our server brought us two, one for the crackers, one for the cheeses (nice touch!) The menu has a lot of variety to it, and based on this first experience, I'm looking forward to going back and trying more!

Great food! The chicken pot pie is so yummy! Also their Salisbury steak it very good, the mushroom gravy has a rich flavor. The place is very clean and the service is excellent.

Wow! I visited Tavern on the Square with my wife on a Saturday for brunch. I had the Steak & Eggs Benedict. It was amazing!!! Great service and excellent food.

Yum! What they do with cauliflower is amazing! Great for Keto or low carb! Bacon shrimp was awesome.

After hearing about this place I finally checked it out. I got the Italian sandwich with their homemade chips. Delicious! The sweet bartender Libby suggested the French onion dip for the chips and she was right. But she made my visit even more enjoyable. Definitely will be back to see her.
