The 19 Best Maui Restaurants for Poke, Homemade Desserts, and More | Condé Nast Traveler

"Taverna is modern, trendy, and attractive, with lots of raw wood and industrial-chic decor. The central bar has a buzzy, boisterous, sports-bar vibe to it—a lot of people seem to come just for happy hour—but the rest of the restaurant remains relaxed and low-key. The menu offers Italian crowd-pleasers like lasagna, carbonara, and ossobuco, all beautifully done. Standouts include fritto misto (fried seafood), polpette (beef and bacon meatballs), and, for dessert, tiramisu and panna cotta." - Juliana Shallcross, Kris Fordham

Taverna - Review - Kapalua - Maui - The Infatuation

"Once you’ve eaten enough raw fish that you’re starting to wonder how you would look with gills, it’s time to take a break from seafood. That’s when you should head to Taverna. Our go-to at this Italian restaurant at the Kapalua Resort is the Taverna lasagna with a side of beef and bacon meatballs, though it’s pretty hard to go wrong on their menu. Just make sure you pair something with one of their specialty cocktails like the smoky Burning Man-Hattan or one of the three variations on the negroni. They also have two daily Happy Hours (2:30-5:30pm and 9pm-midnight) and a Wine Wednesdays special with half off all bottles." - Leah Ponichtera

We were truly delighted by our experience at Taverna. Excellent food, excellent service, and an excellent atmosphere. We were seated at a table overlooking the picturesque golf course, which made the evening even more special. The service was attentive and friendly throughout. The place itself is warm, well-located, and beautifully designed. While the menu is priced slightly above average, it matches the quality of the culinary experience. Definitely worth it for the overall value. Highly recommended

Google
Beautiful experience including the service food and atmosphere. We were there visiting with a dear friend & their patience with our party was exquisite! We ordered multiple drinks & apps before dinner which were all delicious and we we well entertained by some delightful children on the golf course. Thank you for the wonderful evening!

Google
Great vibe and views to relax and enjoy dinner. Our server (Taylor I believe) was great, very nice and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious. Appetizers and main courses both alike. Lasagna was great! Would definitely come back.

Google
If you're looking for a great italian-themed restaurant that is not on the beach, this is the spot. It is located right on the golf course. They have a huge patio that opens up with plenty of views. Their Pizza is very traditional with a flat crust and all of the other dishes are amazing. We really enjoyed the Ahi and the steak. Make sure you make reservations, it is a hit or miss as to how busy they will be on any given night. With their clothes location to the Ritz-Carlton I am sure they get a lot of clientele from there. Do you have a great wine selection and a full bar.

Google
We ended up at Taverna during the tsunami last week and I have to give them mad props. They not only stayed open but were extremely accommodating for what had to be 100+ people while we waited it out on high ground. They didn't have the usual staff and it was understandably chaotic, but they offered pizza and lasagna, plus all sorts of great drinks to keep people fed and distracted. The woodfire pizza was tasty! Kids were kept busy on the golf course it boarders. The best of a stressful situation. I'm so thankful for the owner and staff at Taverna! THANK YOU!

Google
Good food. They had a local Hawaiian fish, O'opu, as a special which was good. Friendly staff. Beautiful setting amongst the pines in Maui.

Google
The view is amazing, and the exterior and atmosphere of the restaurant are both beautiful. The lasagna was absolutely delicious, and the chocolate mousse cake was also fantastic. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We had an issue with our rental car in the parking lot, and the owner and staff were incredibly helpful. Truly good-hearted people. We’re planning to visit Maui again, and this is a restaurant I’d love to come back to every time. Wishing the owner, Matthew, all the best always!

Google
A True Maui Gem – Taverna is Exceptional! After a disappointing experience at our resort, Taverna Maui completely restored our faith in island dining. From the moment we walked in, the warm and welcoming atmosphere set the tone for an outstanding evening. The staff was genuinely friendly, attentive, and made us feel like family — a refreshing contrast to many “tourist trap” restaurants. We even received free Champagne for our anniversary. The food was incredible — every dish was fresh, flavorful, and thoughtfully prepared. The pasta was perfectly cooked, the sauces were rich yet balanced, and the seafood tasted like it came straight from the ocean that morning. Even the cocktails were impressive, with creative twists and fresh ingredients that perfectly complemented the meal. The setting is beautiful and relaxed, with a lively yet cozy vibe that makes it perfect for both date nights and family dinners. Taverna truly delivers an authentic, high-quality dining experience that feels like the heart of Maui. We left full, happy, and already planning our return. Highly recommend Taverna — it’s everything a great restaurant should be.

Yelp
It's a mixed bag on this review. Our waiter seemed to be new; he initially told us the specials when we sat down but I didn't hear him clearly. When he returned, I asked if he could repeat them. Problem was there were two fish specials and my wife and I heard three different fish options. Drinks....he's never heard of a Negroni and asked me to spell it. Food....my wife's pizza was delicious. Thin crust, buffalo mozzarella, well seasoned and perfectly cooked. My gnocchi was rather salty and ok. It's always been one of our favorite stops for dinner. I'm sure we will be back; location makes it a sure bet.

Yelp
Not worth it. I've been coming to Maui for 28 years and this was one of the worst restaurants I've been too. We showed up for Christmas Eve and no where on the website, nor open table did it state there would be a set menu. Mind you most places will let you know ahead of time about a set menu. However we just went with it. It was priced 110 per person, which would have been fine however every entree they had , mixed with appetizer and dessert was no where near 110 dollars compared to what their normal prices on the menu normally are. It was a complete rip off. And mind you the proportions were tiny! The service wasn't very great either, for being Christmas Eve they weren't very busy and it was very hard to get drink refills. I will say the poke was fresh and great though.

Yelp
Minus 2 stars. I felt like I was being tortured when I ate the beetroot salad. I would buy two of those salads again but only for my server and the cook to eat so that I could watch their faces and see the happiness fade. Rather, I would eat the beautiful golfing green grass outside and tip the deserving gardener instead. Minus star for not having a diaper changing table in the mens room. Asking a tired mother to change the diaper is unacceptable. Plus 1 star for the kind hostess for clearing the women's bathroom so I could change a diaper. Plus 1 star for Gnocchi and pizza. Server said they could not substitute the Italian sausage in the gnocchi for some broccolini because it would "change the taste". I agree, it might actually make it taste better.

Yelp
Food- 3.5 Service-1 Ambiance-4 My husband and I went here twice while we were on our honeymoon in Maui. The first time we went, the food was the star. We ordered a margarita pizza and pasta carbonara. The pizza was really good. The carbonara was sub par--I've had quite a few bit of carbonaras in my time. The service was not great. Ashley W was our server and was pleasant the first time, but not getting the warm and fuzzies especially since I told her we were on our honeymoon. The second time we went there, we got the margarita pizza- still a solid choice and we tried the penne pasta with veggies, this was underwhelming. For service this time we got the same server. She seemed to be a little short with us and was more cold this time. We honestly got better service from the gentleman that filled our water glasses. I would recommend coming here for happy hour and sitting at the bar.

Yelp
Food is a C at best. Had dinner reservations for six. Fish specials were both better than regular menu items but everything just okay and wildly overpriced even by Maui standards. $54 for a simple grilled fish dinner, yikes. I had their specialty, lasagna, and they simply try too hard. No sauce, meat overworked and I never found the bechamel. Same goes for the spaghetti carbonara, under seasoned, short on sauce and just okay. Saw an osso buco go by that looked great but hard to justify at over $60. Their steak special was $78 Now the good part. Service is nice and ambience is lovely. We so enjoyed sitting around a small table where we could laugh, tell stories and just be family. We sat outside on patio and what a fantastic view. Dessert was a step up from dinner. House made Tiramisu was a hit with our birthday girl and the fresh strawberry gelato was really tart and delicious. My sister loved the espresso martini and the selection of wine was nice. I think that with a little common sense and some tweaking of the menu, this place could be a standout. Kind of weird that it's next door to the pour house, another upscale Italian joint (on same ritz Carlton property). Kinda think they should either abandon the upscale Italian to the pour house and just have a great gastro pub on the course or invest in a proper chef. Either way, the prices are ridiculous. $37 for an 8oz serving of mediocre lasagna...silly. A simple greens and beet salad was over $20. I wouldn't do it again. Overpriced and underwhelming food

Yelp
Never have I been to an Italian restaurant that doesn't serve bread and olive oil with the meal. Otherwise food was generally good portions adequate. Service fine

Yelp
The food was good as were the drinks. Gorgeous location and the service was solid. The only reason it isn't 5 star is that, when I went to the bathroom, my wife brought up that it was my birthday. They told her to pick a dessert from the dessert menu, insinuating that it was on the house. Then the bill came and they charged us for it. Not cool.

Yelp
Had dinner here tonight....there were some good things, some meh things, and some things just done wrong. Pros: servers were friendly, some food items (meatballs and specialty pizza for the day) were executed well. Good flavor, nice crust on the pizza, tasty marinara sauce on the meatballs. Cons: service was slow and most of what we ordered, outside of the pizza and meatballs were not that good. Pasta dishes (evening special and pasta carbonara) were overcooked (mushy), evening special had prawns, good sized ones, but overcooked as well. Was a huge disappointment as it smelled really good when plates of it walked by our table! We struck a conversation with table next to us, and they also noted overcooked shrimp (rubbery). Overall, a disappointing meal with a few glimmers of decently cooked dishes, thus a 3 versus a 2.

Yelp
taverna is so beautiful inside and out! the vibe is so nice with the live music and everything. i got the jidori chicken with a side of broccolini and it was sooooo good!! the whole dish was amazing. the flavors are so yummy and i loved the kale and carrots with the mashed potatoes. focaccia was also very good and so was the truffle gnocchi!!!! everything we had was amazing and i can't wait to go back to try more stuff!

Yelp
They were closed for a private event. Kinda rude when we could have stopped anywhere. There has to be a way to let people know so they don't waste their time driving here. I hope the event was worth it.

Yelp
Most amazing gnocchi I've ever had. Ambiance- great! Sat overlooking the golf course Service - wasn't bad at first. Server was very friendly. Poured our wine every time our glasses were getting low. Unfortunately the table was not very sturdy. The wine bottle was on the edge after a pour and slid off when the table bumped. The bottle was about a third full and broke. The host and server were apologetic and said, "at least it wasn't too full." They left it at that. No offer to reduce the bottle price, no offer of a glass from the bar, nothing. Service has become old school. Price - considered $$ but I would put it closer to $$$. House wine bottle starts just over $50. Entries were average $40, with sides extra. I'm guessing for dinner and cocktails, around $200-250 for two people.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! We ordered Lasagna Carbonara pasta Pasta with short rib ragout Pizza Examples each one.. delicious and reasonable prices. Service was fantastic. Parking is great!

Yelp
The view of the restaurant are very impressed us because you have a huge view to the golf area I like the food pretty much. It was a really good Borger, fresh and crispy!! The service was also good. The guy was very fast and about the menu. Five stars review definitely

Yelp
Outstanding. Not sure why the overall rating is only 3.5 stars. Our experience was definitely 5 stars. Food, Service, Atmo - all superb. Wife had the branzino (sp) fish over veggies and loved it. I had the carnivore pizza. We shared a Caesar salad and some focaccia. "Pizza?" you ask, "At a place like that?" Yes - because the host recommended it. It was worthy of the recommendation. We have a pizza place in our hometown (Topper's Pizza Palace) that is simply outstanding. We've persuaded many skeptics of the truth of that over the years. People who move away from our area admit one of the things they kiss most is Topper's. So when I say the carnivore pizza at Taverna was good, I'm comparing it to the excellence that is Topper's. If I had to choose between the two, the Taverna edges out the Topper's for detectability. The crust was out of this world good. The way they did the toppings was perfection. I could not eat all 6 slices, so boxed what was left to eat today. Am looking soooo forward to it. The only downside is that its pricey. But then what fine dining restaurant isn't these days?

Yelp
Came in for an after dinner bottle of wine... the Chianti was a perfect fit for our relaxing change of venue. The bar area was an open concept however had a small restaurant feel.

Yelp
It was going to be 3* but Julie the manager was fantastic, she looked after us really well, checking on menu subs, redoing our bill for Kamaaina rates, getting us drinks. She was fast, and kept up with a really busy restaurant/bar while remaining friendly and professional. Unflappable and inspiring to watch. All the staff were, giving 100%, and they deserved good tips even though service was slow. Kylie and Brian on the bar were swamped and did their best to keep up with customers but they were drastically understaffed so it was a long wait for service and definitely not their fault. Roughly 28 restaurants were burned in the Lahaina fire, and were doing 300+ covers per night, so you do the math and work out why most of the remaining restaurants are slammed. Plus so many workers have left island so staff are hard to come by. My gal pal and I had a few cocktails to start, a Titos/lemonade/iced tea concoction and a mocktail Honey Chilli Jam with tequila added. Both were far too easy to drink! I had a gin n tonic for my second drink and Kylie asked what type of gin I preferred and whether I wanted lemon or lime which was a nice touch. We started with shared pupus, the garlic fingerling potatoes (delicious with nuggets of crunchy garlic) and the fritto misto with prawns which had a nice red sauce underneath. Then I chose the pasta with cauliflower/tomatoes/mushrooms, etc. The veggies are blended into a sauce for the pasta and it is very tasty. I would have liked some parmesan grated onto it but everyone was too busy. My friend ordered a pizza and it came with a huge pair of scissors which was highly entertaining. We were too full to order the brussel sprouts which smelled soooo good, so we will try them next visit. Taverna at the bar is a nice way to spend time with friends, yes, service is slow but they are giving their all so please be patient with them. They are much better than the Ritz where we waited 1.15 mins for a drink! The restaurant has a patio, indoor area with open sides and a beautiful large bar. Easy free parking in their car park. Clean restrooms. Give them a try. Great food and good times.

Yelp
This is a beautiful restaurant located overlooking the stunning Kapulua golf course which I had high hopes for. The food was great but the service was lackluster and slow. It took about 10 minutes for our waiter to greet us and by that time we already had our order figured out. We had a salad, margherita pizza, and brussels sprouts for the apps, which all came out in a timely manner. I thought the pizza was tasty and the brussels were the highlight. We also ordered the carbonara and gnocchi to share. Now I am not exaggerating when I say it took over 30 minutes for the pastas to arrive. We were wondering when the rest of our food was going to come out and our waiter did not check up on us. We had to flag one of the bussers to refill our empty water glasses. Not sure if they are understaffed, but I was displeased with the lack of attentiveness here. Although the food was tasty, I wish they had better service and they would have easily received 5 stars.

Yelp
The bartender who waited our party was horrible. Hardly anyone at the bar, it took 10 minutes for him to take our drink order. He was too busy making time with two single females. During this time, he made some inappropriate comments that he mistook my wife saying. After getting our drinks, it took 40 minutes (not kidding) to finally get the appetizers we ordered. We needed to ask a wait staff member for assistance. When it came time to order dinner, he had no idea about specials and the menu. It was embarrassing. We had to send him away and ask for another bartender. From what we observed, the other bartenders had to cover for him. There was clearly something going on that was not being said. Food was great as usual, just deal with the bar staff. , ,

Yelp
Very disappointed! We have been to Taverna before but, after tonight, I don't think we will be back. We made reservations and were seated early. The setting was lovely and our server approached us in a timely manner. Cocktails came and we order a salad to be split and focaccia. Then........... we sat. Our server came back to let us know the bread was in the oven, so we placed our entree order. One hour later, our entrees came. Our server came back to ask about our food and we let her know, No salad and no focaccia ever showed up. She apologized but it was a clear break in communication, ordering and delivery. The lasagna was ok and cioppino was good, but not super hot. We were given a small discount but that was absolutely not what we wanted. Granted it was a Friday night and the restaurant was busy but.... We were there before it was super busy and to just not serve guests their salad and bread and way after the fact (after entrees have been served) realize the error, is again disappointing.

Yelp
Love this places menu shrank so Much less than before food was good as usual service was a bit off asked 4 times for water and food came out one at a time It was a birthday and they just slid smallest piece cake on table.

Roger R.

Yelp
I received an on line gift certificate for Taverna. Deleted it accidentally. Went there and the manager couldn't find in their computer. Ruined our New Year's Day lunch. Didn't feel much aloha from that manager there.
google avatar

Yelp
Taverna is located in the heart of Kapalua with a beautiful view of the green hills. Ambiance is great, with tables spread out and bar area when you first walk in. We were immediately seated upon arrival. Server was great and responsive. The dishes were amazing! Portions was perfect, not too much and not too little, and reasonably priced. My favorite dish was the beet salad, it was the best salad I've had and it was so colorful! My linguine with clams was delicious, not too salty and perfect amount of sauce! I would definitely recommend this place!
google avatar

Bruski N.

Yelp
We were excited to find an Italian restaurant near where we stayed. It is next to a golf course and shares a building with the golf shop. It didn't feel as stuffy as most country club restaurants. The ambiance was rather open and lively. The server was a little slow to greet our table but once she got started, the food and drinks came quickly. Now is the disappointment part. Except for the Gnocchi, all of the dishes ordered were average. The special, linguini with clams and sausages, was watery and bland. Our Carnivore pizza was the worst. It was salty and gave Carnivore a bad name. There were very little pepperoni, prosciutto, and chopped sausages. The crust was thin and soggy. I don't think we will be coming back here again.

Yelp
If you have the balls to spill someone's wine and still charge corkage (on that bottle!), you could work at Taverna! This place is pretty damn expensive. And I'm a Los Angeles area food guy. I'm pretty accustomed to pricey. Here, for Michelin prices, the food wasn't wad, but was not great. (Their pasta carbonara is basically an Alfredo with a little pancetta.) But oh my. The service was laughably terrible. The server was a bit rude. I can ignore this. But after he spilled my Far Niente Cabernet, he tried to blame my child. Then eventually took fault. And offered to sell me more wine. And still charged corkage for the bottle. (Not to mention, I had to SPECIFICALLY ASK THEM TO REPLACE THE FOOD HE RUINED by dumping wine all over it.) What a clown. I have to assume my experience is atypical. But it was laughably bad.

Yelp
Walked into Taverna expecting a wine pour, got a lesson in limbo instead. They mark the glass like it's a height requirement at an amusement park, but the pour decides to play limbo and stops way too soon. How low can you go, Taverna? Feeling adventurous, I decide to tango with a corn bread cocktail. Rookie mistake. It tasted like I accidentally took a sip from a peanut butter jar - smooth move, Taverna . Service was on a speed date. Ordered a pre-dinner drink, and the waiter vanished for 20 minutes. No cocktails, just a speedy return to take orders, as if my drink order was on a coffee break. Did they think I developed the ability to hydrate through osmosis? Despite the pour shenanigans, the corny cocktail, and the disappearing waiter act, the food deserves a round of applause. It's like the reliable friend in this comedy of errors - always there when you need it, no limbo involved.

Teri,Teri, Teri, She made our Monday evening remarkable. Knew the dishes inside out w great pairing recommendations. Every dish was well crafted and balanced.

Yelp
If you had been to Taverna prior to August 23 this is not the same place. Not to say they aren't trying but it's just not the same. They are operating on a limited and disappointing menu. If this was any other restaurant I'd give 2, maybe 3 stars. But I know how good Taverna was and hope it gets there again. I was looking forward to the caprese salad and the meatballs from the starter menu. And I very much miss the duck ragu pasta. Instead the menu has only 3 pasta dishes, burgers, pizza and salads. I ordered clam and Italian sausage linguini that was bland and watery. The husband got the gnocchi and the sauce was truly cheesy-delicious but it was described with black truffle and sausage, neither of which were in the dish. We ordered fritto misto to start and it came out overcooked and rubbery. Cocktail menu used to be a highlight. Now it's just standard drinks. I went off-book and ordered a bourbon sour that didn't disappoint. We've been returning to Taverna year after year. I truly hope everyone recovers and the wonderful flavors and dishes return.

Yelp
What a surprise! This is now our new favorite restaurant in Maui. I had the Carbonara, which was AMAZING! My husband had the bolognese, which he said was really good too. Everything was delicious and the quantities were generous. We also found the outdoor seating to be very kid-friendly. My kids had the pasta with marinara sauce and finished off with an ice cream sandwich. The ambience was beautiful and laid back. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
This place deserves 0 star. We arrived at this restaurant at 7:30 PM. Despite half the restaurant being empty and the bar area fully open, we were told it was fully booked. We then asked for takeout menu, only to be informed they were out of takeout boxes. The service was terrible and the staff didn't even apologize. Horrible experience overall!
google avatar

Sophia K.

Yelp
If I could give 10 stars I would! Unfortunately the location keeps this place underrated. The food AND SERVICE was 10/10. ERICA was our server and she was the absolute best. Gave us great advice as tourists and was extremely sweet. The first genuine authentic Italian food I've eaten on Maui. The ambiance is extremely welcoming while it's modern and extremely clean. We will be back in a few days ;)

J T.

Yelp
I come here every year for the holidays. Recently, they have included a holiday menu where everything is upcharged. There is also no pizza or pasta on the menu... mind you, it's an Italian restaurant. This place has left us overly disappointed the past three years. The waiters are also consistently rude. Don't go it's not worth it.
google avatar

Crisp P.

Yelp
Ended up eating here twice as we enjoyed our first visit so much. Had some great pastas, pizza, cocktails, salads, and appetizers too. Service was friendly and helpful and setting and ambience is of course fantastic as you would expect for Kapalua, hard to screw that up as you are literally in a paradisaic setting! But the design and decor and patio, etc. are all very comfortable and nice. Its a short walk from the Ritz Carlton, and the prices are reasonable given the location, will cost about half what it costs to eat on-sight at the Ritz.
google avatar

Helga W.

Yelp
When I eat out, I normally don't choose Italian restaurants. Pasta is easy to make and very overpriced. Someone chose this restaurant and I tagged along. We came on a Friday afternoon. There were like 2 other groups seated. Great for us so food and drinks should come out faster. I ordered gnocchi, since it's an item that I think requires too much effort. It came out hot, the sauce and cheese were so creamy. It wad good. The accompany guest got fish sandwich. It was basic. Fries were hot and crispy. I also got tiramisu for dessert. Classic Italian, it was good. Not to sweet, moist. Perfect way to end the meal. As stated before, it is more on the expensive end. If I had to pay, I wouldn't have chosen here.

Yelp
The view of the golf course at Taverna is awesome, providing a picturesque and relaxing setting for lunch. The service was good, with staff being accommodating when our Caesar salad was overwhelmingly salty. Unfortunately, both the salad and the pizza we ordered were too salty, which detracted from the overall dining experience. While the staff's willingness to bring a new salad was appreciated, there is definitely room for improvement in food quality, taste, and service.

Yelp
Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 5/5 We ate here twice in the last two weeks. We previously came here in 2021. Again, we were not disappointed. The setting and ambiance here are amazing. Indoor/outdoor vibe with great views. The service is fantastic. Our server this time was Alejandro and he was very attentive and helpful. The food is fantastic. The pizzas are great, meatball appetizer is fantastic, great calamari app, spinach ravioli highly recommended. I had the fish of the day which was opakapaka; the preparation was outstanding. Loved it. Highly recommend this place and will 100% be back.

Yelp
We had a great meal. I was craving Italian and got what I wanted. The server was very helpful. We loved our food and the wine selection was great. The carpaccio was nice and light. The carbonara was perfect- not too much food.

Yelp
We discovered this restaurant on day 5 of 7 of our trip to Maui. I wish we had discovered this spot sooner. The ambience was awesome, the service was great, and it was NOT as expensive/over priced as the other restaurants we have been to. This spot is on the north side of Maui in Kapalua. We are going once more to eat dinner at this spot. APPETIZERS: * Caprese: The tomatoes and the cheese were presented so well with a little pipette with vinaigrette to put at our discretion. * House bread: This was freshly baked and it was deliciously presented with a variety of olives and a bowl of olive oil. DINNER: * Chicken Fritters (kids): The kids enjoyed the chicken fritters and the fries were delicious * Gnocchi alla Norcina: My wife and her father shared the larger portion of this and I tried one gnocchi and it was delicious - they both enjoyed this dish. * Spaghetti Carbonara: My mother in law ordered this dish and said it was delicious. * Pasta Special: I ordered the pasta special which was basically penne pasta with the house Bolognese sauce...it was outstanding. * Side of Broccolini: We ordered a side of broccolini and it was deliciously cooked with garlic and butter.

The Food we good The service was slow Let's talk about the Ambiance!! When we made our reservation we ask for view of sunset. We were put at a table by a Door with a fire extinguisher hanging by it. It was in a walk way!! So bad we almost left!! We even asked for a different table.. besides being with awesome company on Maui we would have left. We will not be back or refer friends when they visit Maui

Yelp
Ambience is great, but food is average. The carbonara was the best dish although sauce was a little on the lighter side.

Yelp
I'd go zero stars if I could. Have gone to this place before and liked it but their fixed menu (which was a surprise when we arrived) lead to the worst dining experience in 25 years of coming to Maui. We spent $850 for portions and ingredients that were for small children and could have been purchased at the grocery for $50. It was a total scam. We dine at fine restaurants all the time and this experience was embarrassing (and slow). Sadly we were mortified for the guests we brought with us. We will never go back. If it were the last restaurant on Maui, we eat at the grocery store.

Yelp
We had lunch at Taverna, which is located in West Maui, in a golf course complex in Kapalua. We really enjoyed our lunch and made reservations to return last night for dinner. In between, I checked out reviews on Yelp and discovered a fair number of negative reviews, mainly related to service. So when we walked in at 7 PM and found the place packed and people waiting to be seated, I immediately started worrying about what our experience would be. We were seated very quickly. Water was offered, and shortly afterward, Jaimie arrived and said she would be taking care of us. She waited patiently while we figured out drink orders and left us to decide what we wanted to eat. Jaimie shared the specials for the evening and let us know they were sold out of the spinach ravioli with lemon sauce. Shirley was disappointed as she had decided on that after her first glance at the menu. We asked her to bring us grilled asparagus, 6 ounce cup of marinated olives, and bread to share for table. Jaimie returned very quickly, in my opinion, with drinks, and our chosen starters followed shortly afterward. Shirley chose the potato soup with lemon oil and Caesar salad, I chose Linguini with clams. Our friends chose Linguini with clams and pasta carbonara. The mfood was brought to our table in a remarkably short time. We were all very happy with our selections, they were really good. For desserts, we got 3 Affogatos and one Tiramisou, perfect way to end our meal. The restaurant is loud, which would be our only minor complaint. The food and Jaimie's service were without fault. She is young, super friendly, professional, and very attentive. Our friends own a restaurant and bar in South of France, and we owned a restaurant in Sonoma County, CA, for 10 years. Both of us would be happy to have Jaimie work at our establishment.

Yelp
FOOD POISON. Went there last night after a long day of flying to the islands this was our only meal that we had so I know that I got food poisoning from this particular place. It was not a very good night. Day one of vacation down not feeling very good, but I'm sure tomorrow will be better. Service was just ok. Would I return? NO.

Yelp
I cannot say enough good things about Taverna! I was seated and greeted immediately. It was just me and I had a reservation just in case, but I easily could have walked in or sat at the bar. It was a Wednesday night and they were about half full. I had an espresso Martini (weak), the ahi Crudo (?) and the lasagne. I've been here before and I was there for the lasagne....they took it off the menu but thankfully it was a special that night! Excellent service!! Excellent food!! Great, fun, and comfortable ambiance. You know I'll be back! There is more on the menu that I'd like to try.

Yelp
The food was just okay for the high prices charged Don't get the clams!! The clams were about as big as my baby finger nail. The service was super slow; they brought the entree out before the appetizer, which we had to be sent back. We won't be going back there!

Yelp
We recently came here for dinner for a family gathering. Things sure have changed since our last visit. We had numerous reservations for our group and I called in to ensure the other parties in our group and us were seated close by. I did get a confirmation that they would help try to accomodate but the day of our reservations they had all of the other parties sitting together except for us, the one that called it in. Anyways after a bit they sat us all together which was fine. Since we had many families we asked if we could get separate checks. We were seated in long rows and had two different waiters. Steve our waiter said yes but the waiter in the other side said no. Eventually Steve came back and said management said no. ???? Anyways I was looking for lasagna and their pizza that was cooked outside. We'll to find out they don't make lasagna and they use the leftovers on other days to make it at times and their pizza is cooked differently now not on the outside grill. We went with the two recommendations - gnocchi dish and there was a linguini seafood dish. The linguini seafood dish was good, the portion of the dish was on the small side. The gnocchi dish was too salty. Everyone on my table didn't like it since it was too salty. I let Steve know but pretty much not much was done about it on our check. The kids ordered their pasta dishes and they didn't eat it or finish it as well. They said it tasted funny different and my kid who loves cheese pizza didn't like her cheese pizza as well. I went and tasted the pizza and yep it was not good. I was disappointed in our food quality and service. Would I come again? We will see, but the other good things I would have to say was Steve was very customer service friendly and the linguini seafood entree was good.

Yelp
First, I came to this particular Italian restaurant based on reviews that mentioned great gluten-free options. NOT TRUE. But let's start from the beginning. Annoyance began with the receptionist whose English was either so bad that she couldn't understand my request that my kids receive adult menus or was too dim-witted. I suspect it was a language barrier because we experienced the same issue with the girl who provided us waters when my daughter mistakenly thought she was our server and asked if they had strawberry lemonade. Definite language barrier issue. But the real moronic behavior occurred when our waiter arrived and I asked about gluten free options. He proceeded to identify the non-bread items on the menu (such as the crudo) to tell us that there was no gluten in crudo. When we stopped him to explain that we understand what types of foods don't have gluten and were asking about bread and pasta options, he got snippy. Then explained that they do not have any gluten-free bread products, but they can make a penne pasta that is gluten-free. Not what I was expecting based on other reviews I had read so I want to let others know how limited their options are if someone is hoping for gluten-free pasta. Mind you, I had also put in the notes of our Open Table reservation that we were interested in gluten-free options. Apparently no one reads the reservation notes... As a result of all of this discussion (related to 1 person in our party who is trying to limit gluten), I guess they decided to never bring bread to our table cause I saw bread arrive at all of our surrounding tables that were sat after us. In addition to ordering a Mai Tai, we brought a bottle of Far Niente Cab. We asked to have it opened. Had to ask twice in order to get the waiter to open it. After that first pour from the waiter, no one ever came back to pour our wine for us. We started with 2 appetizers to share. Then we ordered 2 entrees to share. We like to take our time at dinner. The plan was to then order another couple items. But when they brought out the 2 entrees, they spilled my husband's glass of wine (that I had just filled up), all over the table. Multiple plates were covered and the lasagna dish also had a couple ounces of the wine poured into it. But no rush to clean and clear items. No suggestion of how to compensate for the full glass of our expensive wine that you just spilled. Then, as the cleaning is happening, the waiter comes over and says he doesn't know what happened and asks if one of our kids spilled the wine. ‍ The lasagna (flooded with wine) is still sitting on the table with the suggestion that we should enjoy it. The waiter asks us if we want a new lasagna, which should have been an unnecessary question. Clearly the kitchen has not instilled any sense of propriety into the front of the house as to how the food should be eaten. Drenched in wine...whatever. They did bring a new lasagna dish eventually and didn't charge us for it. They still charged us the $30 corkage and no offer for a free glass of wine to compensate for our spilled wine. We knew we had to get out of there and quickly ended our meal at that point. I obviously do not recommend this place. That said, outdoor seating does provide beautiful views of the golf course. And the food we ate was tasty. But this is hands down the worst service I've ever seen anywhere on this island during my 11 visits over the many years.
