Masala Art’s Owner Is Taking Over Toscana Cafe Near Union Station | Eater DC

"Operating for nearly ten years near Union Station before going dark in early August, this quaint two-story Italian mainstay—originally opened by a family from Tuscany and switched ownership at least once—felt like an Italian grandmother’s aging house: its facade had received a facelift in recent years while the interior largely stayed the same. Toscana Café’s Italian-inspired lunch and dinner menu focused on paninis, pizzas, pastas, and salads, and it was known for serving delicious, authentic home-style Italian meals with a gourmet touch." - Tierney Plumb

Traverna Toscana was an absolute delight from start to finish. The service was warm, attentive, and elevated the entire experience. Every dish we tried was outstanding—easily making this the best restaurant I’ve been to in Florida so far. My husband had the Mahi Mahi which was perfectly cooked, fresh, and full of flavor. The (Rigatoni) Vodka Rose was rich and creamy with just the right balance of tang and depth, while the meatballs were tender, flavorful, and truly authentic. And the bread—hands down the best I’ve ever had—warm, fresh, and unforgettable. We ended the night with the light, fluffy cheesecake topped with strawberry compote, which was the perfect sweet finish to an already exceptional meal. On top of the incredible food and service, everything was fairly priced, which made the experience even more enjoyable. From start to finish, Traverna Toscana is a must-visit.

Very nice atmosphere. Employees are great. Taylor, our server was awesome. Now on to the food. We ordered a salad. Large quantity, poor quality. Lettuce was brown. I've included a picture. First Italian restaurant I've ever been to where bread is not served complimentary. Also, first Italian restaurant where fettuccine and angel hair pasta was not available. I ordered Osso buco. Very good, but not the best I've had. We sat next to the kitchen and had the privilege of seeing all the meals come out. Presentations were amazing! Unfortunately, quality fell short.

I had the wagyu meatball appetizer and it was DELICIOUS! How they keep it so tender and cooked through while being so big, remains a mystery. The wedge salad made me want to drink the dressing it was so good . I had the French I-75 and it was a nice twist on the classic French 75. I took off one star for the atmosphere only because I expected it to be a bit more, quaint? Quiet? I could barely hear my mom it was so loud. Just my preference with liking more upscale restaurants like this to be a bit quieter. Nothing they did wrong.

For me, the highlight of the show was definitely the appetizers. I feel like I probably could have ordered just from that section of the menu and been very happy. The dinner rolls were not to be missed they were served with plenty of butter to help clog your arteries before the meal even really begins. Feel free to skip the meatball, nothing about it screams waygu, it just tastes like a meatball to me. Service could use a little bit of improvement for the price you are paying here. I’ll give it a bit of grace given we are not in a big city and there might be a different expectation for service. Kinda eclectic interior design as well for a steakhouse which tend to be on the more traditional side. So this place definitely has a tastes of Florida in that sense.

I've been wanting to check this restaurant out for quite some time. It was my friend's birthday is she suggested we come here for dinner. Our server was Abigail. She asked if it was our first time here. We said yes and she proceeded to give us the rundown of the restaurant, the food and the chef. She was definitely one of the highlights of our visit. She had some wonderful suggestions and allowed us plenty of time to decide what we wanted to eat. We started off with the Caesar salad which we split. They actually had anchovies available which is one of my favorites! Our entrees came and the presentation was very impressive. Are meals were amazing and one of the best we've had in quite some time. We ended with some gelato and in-house made tiramisu. If you haven't checked this place out yet you need to put it at the top of your list. Please give Abigail our praise and thanks as well as a hefty raise!

We had an incredible experience at Taverna Toscana a few weeks ago. The restaurant is stunning. The decor makes it feel upscale yet warm and inviting. Our server was so friendly and helpful throughout our meal. We tried several dishes and all were so good. I could name every dish we had and would say that each and every one was fantastic - the bone marrow, large meatball, strip steak, wedge salad and more. HIGHLY recommend trying here if you haven’t already. Seriously a gem.

The food and experience were truly amazing. From check-in to check-out, the service was faultless. Eli, our server, was exceptional, with a great energy and excellent recommendations. The mussels and beet salad were delicious starters, and the aged ribeye and shrimp fra diavolo were outstanding main courses. The entire experience was exceptional from start to finish. Thank you for a much-needed, exceptional evening.

My husband and I just had probably one of the BEST dining experiences since we moved to Bradenton from Denver 4 years ago. The food, the service, ambiance matches and even exceeds many "fine dining" restaurants located in big/Metropolitan cities. Our server Jacki was superb and it's obvious the entire staff is well trained in delivering a wonderful dining experience. Cannot wait to come back with friends and family.
