Taverne du Passage

Taverne du Passage is a true classic in the heart of Brussels. The sole was perfectly prepared with precise, traditional technique. The spaghetti vongole was fresh and well balanced, built on clean seafood flavors. The onion soup was rich and deeply flavored, with a properly gratinated cheese topping. The meal was accompanied by an Alsace Riesling, which paired very well with both the fish and the seafood dishes. The restaurant was filled almost exclusively with local Belgian guests, creating an authentic, lively atmosphere with a very good ambiance. Service was attentive, smooth, and professional. A reliable choice for classic French–Belgian cuisine in central Brussels.

A nice typical Belgian cuisine restaurant located in an iconic place of the city. Good dishes with fresh ingredients. The recommendations were good. The quail was tender and good and the salmon as well. The atmosphere is well achieved and for a packed restaurant it wasn't so noisy. The service is professional and friendly.

Lovely art deco restaurant. Fabulous dinner enjoyed by all and glad we booked in advanced as this place fills up quickly. Food was delicious and well presented. Our dessert was cancelled as service after 8pm becomes too busy for the wait.

We stumbled upon the restaurant while window shopping and boy were we glad we did! The food is outstanding, the service is exceptional, the wine list extensive. We liked it so much we had dinner two days in a row. Couldn’t have been more pleased. Be sure to try the chocolate mousse. It will bring tears to your eyes!

We had a very nice dinner here. A good selection of French and Belgian dishes. The salmon tartare was very tasty. Delicious chicken main course. And finally a Dame Blanche enhanced with meringue and crisp chocolate bits that was the best variation of this dessert I’ve had so far in Belgium. Service was fine.

Good location and lovely atmosphere. We went as we heard this place was famous back in the day. However, we didn’t think the prices were worth the taste or quality of the dishes - the dishes were good but nothing mindblowing. For example we got the lobster pasta but this was not too impressive (particularly for the price you pay).

Great place if some extra attention paid. Food was pretty good, but not phenomenal. Service is extremely slow. 20 minutes to get menu, and 2 hrs to get food. Don't expect that someone will ask you if you want another drink.

Nice traditionally decorated restaurant that could get very crowded during dinner hours. Luckily we reserved a table earlier. Services was prompt and friendly but will get slower when the restaurant is running full. Food was delicious: recommend the scallops, veal and mussels.

Service was impeccable & our lunch for five was memorable and delicious. The restaurant is just beautiful. We shared a perfect bottle of Belgian white wine. I tried to read, croquettes, which were softer than I expected & baked. My husbands rooster vol-a-vent was in a creamy mushroom sauce, light yet a wow with frites. Friends enjoyed their salmon & steak as well.

Ate here while visiting Bruges. Food was very good, service was friendly. Dining in Europe versus the States is always different as they don't have the same incentive to provide excellent service because they make more a livable wage and tips aren't as big of a deal because they aren't expected. We still always tip well (gotta represent ya know) and this place the service was pretty good.

This is one of the worst places I've ever eaten. Sandy mussels, basic fries, way overpriced. Avoid!

This restaurant was recommended by another that was closing. The crew looked a little tired when we got there at around 10:00 pm but they were great about helping us. We had soup and the Lobster Bisque, both very good. Service was a little rushed as the last of folks file out but we appreciated the good food and late service.

I have been going to this restaurant ever since I can remember, which must be around the age of five with my parents. There are hardly any classic restaurants around anymore, where waiters are dressed in the classic, almost navy like, white jacket and black pants. Most of these 'Hotel Du Parc' style restaurants have closed down, but Taverne du Passage is still going strong. Can't really go wrong with any of the dishes. All of them Belgian classics.

Came here my 2nd nite in Brussels. While I loved the ambiance I was disappointed with the food. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful but I found the traditional dishes to be quite bland. I tried a chicken dish that had some type of white gravy along with mashed potatoes. Potatoes seem to be a main staple in Belgium .... but I am not big fan of potatoes. The bread was served warm with cold butter and that is truly an unpleasantry in my book.

Amazing steaks, great simple but tasty food! This place is classy yet not overly stylish, which is a good thing. The filet steak with fries and vegetables was just right, along with a real nice pepper sauce.

Went here on a food tour in Brussels. I got a steak in pepper sauce which was pretty good and it came with fries (chips? I don't know what they are called in Brussels) the meal was pretty good and I definitely enjoyed it but I wasn't blown away by anything I had. Still a solid food option though.

A very traditional Belgian restaurant. The menu is mainly seafood, but they do have some meet option. Good food and service. Nice desserts also. Located inside the Gallery de la Reina. I has the white wine mussels they were large and meaty. A good sized portion. The sauce wasn't amazing...I've actually had better in NYC. The bread was delicious and fresh. I have had better fries. I really enjoyed the cheese croquettes as a starter

Service was slow for a Saturday evening. Meat was good as you can expect from a brasserie but nothing exceptional. In conclusion, it would be a good place if it was not overpriced!

Good for a late night meal -- they are open later than most of the Grand Place ringed restaurants (I was seated at 10.20pm and others came in later) -- on a Wednesday night almost everything else in Grand Place area was closing. The cheese croquette appetizer is quite good (and some Yelper has already helpfully taken a photo). I am just going to order two next time. Fries also good. This is a classic Belgian brasserie - I loved it. Afligem on tap. You expect Hemingway to walk in. This restaurant may not change your life, but the service is good and the atmosphere is authentic. Location is in the middle of Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert. 2 minute walk from Grand Place - one or two blocks away.

Can't beat the location, in the middle of Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert, a gorgeous light-filled promenade filled with specialty chocolate shops, milliners, fine clothing stores. Mahogany paneled and tiled interior, with a smattering of green leafy plants. Gorgeous. Practical seating with a long row of tables down the middle, booths, and single small tables. I had the moules au vin blanc and my boyfriend had the steak frites. Came steaming hot and portions were great. I got full before I could finish all my mussels.

This is a nice restaurant in the heart of the tourist district in Brussels. The food was above average on my single visit. I had the traditional Moules et frites (mussels and French fries) and Maes and Grimbergen beer and felt like I had had tasted a little bit of Brussels. The deserts were exceptional.

Nice, authentic restaurant with a classic Belgian menu. Friendly service, waiters in a fancy marine uniform, though somewhat slow or too busy. Recommendable.
