This coffee shop is cute! It shares space with the Ugly Brewing company. Met Emma who is absolutely delightful. She suggested the carrot pineapple muffin, chorizo/egg/cheese breakfast burrito so I ordered them! The burrito came out hot and ingredients tasted fresh. Right amount of zing fly. The chorizo. The muffin was moist and delicious, you don’t normally hear of carrots mixed with pineapple but it works!!! I ordered the white chocolate raspberry coffee drink (hot) and it just hits the spot! Overall a definite 5 stars. Will come back to try the other burritos and muffins!

Good latte and very tasty coffee cake. First time in the “new” location. Need to drop by for a beer soon. Tons of seating since it’s inside Big Ugly Brewing. Cool people. Would like to see a few Vegan breakfast options. Fun place to start your day.

Google
Amazing quality espresso with creative flavor options that are beyond just basic flavored syrups! The staff are very knowledgeable and can cater recommendations to taste preferences! I go out of my way once a week to grab a latte from here before work. My favorite is the seasonal half sweet white chocolate raspberry latte!

I absolutely love this place!!! Try the lavender vanilla latte. I'm not a lavender girl, but it was so good. The breakfast burrito was beyond on point with really crunchy bacon,( which I truly enjoyed). It's so cute! The barista was extremely friendly. The atmosphere was just so chill. Plenty of tables for big groups, will 100% be back worth the drive.

Located inside the Big Ugly Brewing, my Iced French Vanilla latte (2-2) was really good & served by a super friendly barista! They had sold out of the Sausage Egg & Cheese biscuit, so I opted for the Carrot & Pineapple Muffin (heated). It was really moist & went well with my latte! Nice venue, so I will return earlier for my biscuit real soon! 😋😄

Google
Not the biggest fan of their coffee. The drinks always have a burnt taste and never taste much like whatever flavor they're supposed to be. Most recently got a lavendar latte and couldn't tell there was lavendar in it.

James Jimison

Google
This experience was fair, they close at 12:00pm most days, so any evening shoppers won’t be able to visit, but definitely great for early birds. Travel is frustrating, especially if your coming from Va Beach. I had the Shakerato, and a carrot muffin. The muffin is light, flavors are simple, not overpowering, nor hard to taste. Coffee is lightly sweet, with the condensed milk. Atmosphere is more for large parties, not really for relaxing. Very open and bright, not really cozy, no couches, or armchairs, only tall chairs and tall tables. More for beer and ales which is probably their most popular. Disappointingly I will not be returning.

Google
I really enjoyed the nitro cold brew. Definitely visit when Klassic donuts is there. The best combination!

Yelp
I absolutely LOVE this coffee stop. Everything is top notch - the service, the drinks, the location. My husband and I are regulars at Big Ugly but I've never taken the opportunity to try Taxus Street until this week. I tried to come on Monday and quickly learned they were closed, so returned the following day. They operate inside the brewery and have a nice setup in the corner. There is lots of seating - bars and high tops - and it's a great spot for a morning gathering. There was a meeting in the upstairs loft happening during my visit. The barista who assisted me was working solo. She was super friendly and happy to answer my questions. I was glad to hear they offer decaf espresso. I opted to try one of their seasonal lattes - the Mounds Bar latte with almond milk, mocha and coconut cold foam. It took only a few minutes for my order to be prepared. I did find the drink to be slightly sweet for my taste and would ask for half sweet on my next visit. For the lactose intolerant, they have almond and oat milk options. They also have several pastries and some hot food options to choose from like overnight oats and breakfast burritos from Burrito Perdido. I was really pleased with my recent visit and I'll be happy to come back soon!

Yelp
Best coffee around. The owners were super friendly, and the staff was incredible. Plenty of seating in a great place to get some work done. We're just hang with a friend.

Yelp
Taxus Street Coffee (TSC) is a permanent installation of a coffee shop located inside Big Ugly Brewing. They take over the bar in the morning hours when the brewery is closed. I've been many times over the last almost two years trying various lattes, from the regular lattes, mocha lattes, iced coffees to shakeratos (a more complex latte shaken). I've also bought the canned cold brew for my husband which he has enjoyed. They roast their own coffee and provide their coffee beans to other businesses in the area like Battlegrounds, that I have seen. Aside from their caffeinated lattes, they also have iced coffee drinks and non-coffee drinks. For bites, I believe they carry savory items like breakfast sammies and burritos from the local biz down the street, City Deli. For sweets, they carry baked goods from Heritage Bake Shoppe out in Virginia Beach like their cinnamon rolls, whoopie pies and muffins. My favorite days to go during the warmer months is when Klassic Doughnuts are parked outside from 7 am -12 pm, so I can hit them both at once! Coffee and doughnuts, what better marriage is there, except for mine, of course. :P Taxus and Klassic have had a long lasting partnership for at least, as long as I have lived here and my hack to weathering the line for Klassic is to tag team with someone you are with and get a coffee and enjoy it while you are waiting. Of course, you can do the opposite and get some doughnuts and enjoy the doughnuts with the coffee once inside. It's a win win! Go check them out! Stay safe, Friends!

Yelp
Tried this as part of the Coastal Coffee Trail. It's out of my normal route but so glad I decided to give it a go. I am a huge chai latte fan but was feeling different that day. I tried a London Fog on a recommendation from the barista and fell in love! This version uses a lavender earl grey tea and the hint of floral was unexpectedly delicious. With a touch of vanilla and sweetness, I have a new addition to my tea latte preferences. The staff was so nice and talked me through the offerings for non-coffee. I only wish their hours were a little longer, but that's a selfish reason

Yelp
I'm relatively new to the area and searched Yelp for coffee shops near me. Taxus wasn't too far so on a beautiful, sunny November morning I headed here to check it out. Located inside Big Ugly Brewing, the menu is somewhat limited but I like to think that just means they know what they're good at and keep it simple. My drink, the Honey Cinnamon Latte (fall special) was exceptional and the barista was super kind and helpful in recommending this drink. I drank my coffee outside on the large patio and reveled in the ability to enjoy a coffee outside, in the sun, without a coat just a couple of days away from December. My former Midwest and Pacific Northwest selves are loving this new life! Thanks, Taxus! I'll be back for sure!

Yelp
We loved that the coffee shop is inside Big Ugly Brewery. What a super cool atmosphere. The service was good. We got a horchata Latte, it was not very flavorful for us. It was one of their special latte's for the day. I will be trying a few more to hopefully move my review up to a 5 star because I really like the location. OOO and the cinnamon roll was really good. If you are eating it right away they heat it up for you and I love that . Their hot cocoa was great. I actually drank a little of my Latte and poured the rest of the hot cocoa in my latte. YUMM. I usually keep notes of all the drinks so I will give you an update when I have something to report. We are looking forward to visiting again and trying a lot more goodies.

Yelp
So this place is actually inside the Big Ugly Brewery! Love their coffees! May I suggest the shakerato! Sweet, frothy iced espresso. Perfect way to start your mornings. Okay. So maybe 2 suggestions. Go on Friday! Get your coffee and donut fix with Klassics donuts in Fridays! Plenty of parking. Tables are available to enjoy your coffee and work remotely or to study. Hand sanitizers are available. Restroom has a changing table for all you mom's out there! They also have little snacks/pastries available if you go on another day other than Fridays.

Yelp
What a nice vibe! Mumford and Sons playing softly in the background, people talking freely amongst themselves at the bar, some working on their computers. It's located inside Big Ugly! What a great back drop. I got the salted honey latte. So good! It's a perfect drink. Not too sweet but sweet enough. I got it hot today because it's chilly out. The barista was pleasant and did a beautiful job. I'm coming back. This place is a keeper.

Yelp
I hadn't been to Big Ugly Brewing since COVID hit last year...So I was surprised they had a coffee and a small selection of baked items. I got the latte with the horchata flavoring...tasty. I also got a large frosted cinnamon roll(haven't tried it yet) but it looks delicious. The service was great and super friend ladies behind the counter.

Yelp
Excellent quality coffee beans! We recently purchased an espresso maker for home and have been on a search for the best whole espresso beans for my machine. After trying about 6-7 different brands, I found my new favorite! Their Drummond Espresso beans are perfect and are super fresh. The owner was really nice and explained the variety of beans they offer, how they roast beans every 10 days, etc. Exactly what I was looking for. I'll be back to try the drinks as well.

Yelp
A coffee shop inside a brewery-Ran across this lovely place during a business meeting and completely surprised by how beautiful it is inside and out. Not a beer fan but will definitely check out the night life. Back to the coffee AMAZING and perfectly strong. Espresso with a splash of breve - better than anything else around! Update; went back today - pretty sure the espresso is the best I've ever had hands down ... and strong!!! Keeps me going all day! I'll drive from NC everyday for my fix

Yelp
We were enjoying ourselves at the outdoor cafe. The server pays close attention to detail when you order your food. The drinks and the cinnamon bun really hit the spot.

Yelp
Following the buzz on Instagram, I headed down to Chesapeake for my morning coffee fix and for a change of "remote office" scenery. You may have already heard of Taxus if you have visited The Rock Gym or Crossfit Krypton. Their locally roasted beans have been popping up in both places, and a few others around HRVA. Recently, they announced a more scheduled pop up experience at Big Ugly Brewing Tuesdays-Thursdays from 7am-noon. Their menu is simple. If you are looking for some instagramable latte art, you may find yourself disappointed. Right now their menu consists of five varieties of coffee; three single-origin varieties and two blends. An old menu suggests that they also do cold brew on occasion. For the non-coffee drinker you can enjoy a bubbly La Croix. They also have vanilla, caramel, and hazelnut flavoring to add if that is your style. They do have one option available as a ready-to-go drip coffee. However, their thing is offering either pour over or aero press brew methods. The pour over gives it a lighter flavor, he said it is closer to a "tea" consistency. The aero press is like the new-age french press and pulls flavor out in a similar fashion. I used to be a barista, I'm totally embarrassed by how little I remember and I wish I could add more to the benefits of either method. The owners are both running the shop and they are so welcoming and will answer all your questions for you. Now for the oh so important taste part- y'all. This was a GOOD cup of coffee. I opted for their Wote Kanga, light roads, from Ethiopia. The flavor profile says you can taste notes of pineapple, blueberry, and pine. I'll admit that my coffee palette isn't refined enough to taste any of that, but it was a smooth drink and I found myself sipping it much quicker than what I brew at home. It also came with the feel-good warm and fuzzy feelings of supporting a local business. I am so excited to see what 2019 will bring for Taxus and what Taxus will bring to HRVA as it continues to grow.

Yelp
Discovered this place after I got my donut from the Klassic doughnut truck. I ordered a mocha. The staff is very friendly and the place is a nice and fun environment. I think I'm going to make more trips out here for the good coffee and donut !

Yelp
My sweet neighbor bought me a gift certificate to Taxus Street Coffee for a graduation gift. I hadn't heard of them before. They are located inside Big Ugly Brewery. They have coffee and tea specials, breakfast sandwiches/burritos, pastries, etc. Staff is super friendly. I have been twice so far and have loved everything I have ordered so far. The breakfast burrito was perfect to eat on my recent road trip out of state. I look forward to using the rest of my gift certificate and will continue to visit afterwards.

Yelp
I never knew Big Ugly had a coffee shop inside until about a month ago. Since then, I've been seeing them a lot on Instagram and on Instastories. I decided to try them out on a Friday morning; they are conveniently located about a half mile from my work. I'm so glad I went; they had Klassic Doughnuts out there that morning. Anyway, as I walked in, I was greeted good morning by one of the owners. Everyone there was very friendly. Even the customers were making polite conversation with me (you can tell they had regulars). I chose a nitro cold brew and a black coffee. The nitro was a bit bitter, but when I added a little cream it was perfect. My sister enjoyed her coffee. From what I underhand, Taxus roasts their own coffee and they have single origin coffee and blended origin coffee for sale at the counter. The also usually have a small selection of pastries and such for sale but on this particular morning I didn't see any. That's ok...they had Klassic Doughnuts outside and I bought a 1/2 dozen to share with my coworkers. That went over really big!! I'd love to see maybe a larger selection of coffee i.e. lattes, chai, etc. I would love to see more flavors as well. The location is superb. The employees are super friendly. The space is perfect for working.

Yelp
Located inside a brewery, I'm not sure what drink I got, because I wanted the barista to surprise me. I requested a drink that was light and sweet and whatever she whipped up was caramel flavored and heavenly (Starbucks step aside). I will return for another surprise.

Yelp
The best coffee in Chesapeake. The couple who run it are so friendly. I use their beans daily in my home.

Eddie M.

Yelp
Working on the costal coffee trail and came in 10 minutes before closing. Barista was super friendly and considerate despite coming in under the wire. I got the honey oatmilk latte and the espresso was amazing!!! I also appreciate that oatmilk was only a 50¢ up charge as opposed to 75¢-$1 at most other places! Overall a great place and will definitely be coming back! Also bendy straws are superior to regular straws, much appreciated!

Yelp
My review is based on my experience with Taxus Street Coffee at their pop-up at Big Ugly Brewing. I am so grateful for this adorable company coming into Great Bridge & hooking me up with fantastic coffee & a perfect workspace. I'd driven by their sign outside of BUB for weeks but for whatever reason I assumed that there was a coffee truck/cart instead of the entire brewery being taken over! So what a pleasant surprise I had the first time I visited (spontaneously) while driving down Battlefield. I was on the way back from the vet, so I just ran in & out with my cat in the car. I was greeted by the friendliest girl who suggested their popular nitro cold brew with horchata. For $5.50, what a tasty treat! The smoothness & richness was overwhelming in the best way. It's obvious how high quality of a drink you're sipping; no need for a fancy menu. Their options are limited, but I doubt you could go wrong. Since I saw the warm atmosphere of the "coffee shop" and already knowing I love BUB, I went in this morning to stay & work for a while. I had an equally awesome experience. The staff were again very friendly, checking on me a couple times once I got settled in a spot. I chose a bar seat around the corner for a little more privacy. They even have outlets at the bar seats which is perfect for charging devices. The bar is wide so I had plenty of space to spread out my things. Their WiFi is A+ with a separate connection at 5G speed. I ordered the Citrus Fizz which is cold brew with seltzer and a little bit of citrus flavor. This was so unlike any coffee drink I've had before; it was the most refreshing pick-me-up. I also ordered one of their pastries just to put something in my stomach. I opted for the raspberry cream cheese hand pie which was actually fresher & better than I had expected. Their menu is simple, but their delivery is spot-on. I wish their pop-up was 5 days a week & I'd totally stay past noon if they were open longer!

Yelp
Love Big Ugly Brewing and happy to have a coffee spot pop up inside (genius!). So A+ all around on environment, but unfortunately can't say the same about the coffee. My friend and I ordered cold brew and it was pretty watered down and bitter. Maybe they are still trying to nail down the ratios but a bit disappointed there.

Kim T.

Yelp
THE BEST coffee in the area. They not only roast delicious espresso, blends, and single origin coffees, but consistently turn out a great drink in the cafe. The owners are a sweet family involved in the local community and the location makes for a great hangout or study spot. Favorites are the iced americano, Wote Konga single origin and the new vanilla cardamom latte

Cheryl K.

Yelp
I met a friend there the other day for coffee and breakfast. Cute little place. A little pricey for one cup of coffee and one slice of Avacado toast, $18. The service was good.
google avatar

Jenna S.

Yelp
Klassic donuts are always amazing but paired with a Chai Latte from Taxus Street Coffeade it even better on this cold day. It was different than I'm used to as far as Chai lattes go but the blend was still good. Next time I'll definitely try their coffee. I came in for the 757 deal and had never had Taxus before but it didn't disappoint. Highly recommend coming to Big Ugly Brewing on Fridays so you can enjoy both at the same time.

Danny K.

Yelp
A great place to enjoy coffee on a Tuesday through Friday work week. Coffee was good. Staff was nice and close to home.
google avatar

Yelp
Convenient location, great space, great attention to detail in providing high-quality coffee. Both my daughter and I really enjoyed the experience last week. Staff really willing to accommodate your tastes. Nice quiet place to hang out with some mix of students, moms, one or two children quietly engaged in work or reading. No decaf options yet.

Yelp
I came here after seeing a couple of reviews on yelp for Taxus Street Coffee. Was really surprised with the area where this is located. Every single thing that we have ordered was very fresh and yummy. Team are very charming and service is really quick. I love Taxus Street Coffee and will certainly come back.

Yelp
Taxus is still serving great coffee and tasty treats. Great to see their familiar, friendly faces again. Their new drink, the S H A K E R A T O, is a perfect remedy for these muggy days.

Yelp
A wonderful place to hang out, study, chat, make connections, fall in love, and most importantly, enjoy a darn good cup of coffee.

Yelp
A great place for fantastic coffee! The brewery that this pop-up is hosted in is a great space to meet with friends, and get work done all while enjoying a quality cup of coffee. The cold brew and horchata is where it's at! So good!!

Jonathan M.

Yelp
Such great coffee! Great staff, always friendly! I love coming on Fridays when Klassic donuts is setup too! A great pair!

Yelp
Proud, professional, and highly courteous service! Also great tasting coffee and food!
