Taylor Mountain’s network of trails rewards hikers with panoramic vistas of Santa Rosa and the Sonoma Valley, especially from the summit after a satisfying climb. The park is frequently lauded by Sonoma Magazine and the Press Democrat for its wildflower displays and sweeping grasslands, as well as its proximity to downtown Santa Rosa. As an independently managed regional park, Taylor Mountain is a favorite among locals who value its open space and tranquil atmosphere — a place where you can find both solitude and breathtaking scenery just minutes from the city.

I appreciate the added trails to this mountain and thank you to the Sonoma County regional Parks for their work. I had not been here in a while as there were not many trails before. The views are always quite nice. Be mindful where you step as we almost stepped on a rattler today as it was basking in the sun. The gravel road up to the park has so many dips in it you have to drive extremely slow to traverse it safely. Plenty of parking spots.

Trails are maintained well enough. Close to town with easy access and two entrances with plenty of parking. Disc golf course off the Kawana entrance. Not many flat trails from either entrance-- mostly up, just at varying degrees. Views are nice from both entrances. From Kawana you can take in views of the east side of the mountain which is fewer houses, but can't see as far. Lots of lizards. Sometimes even cows! Dog friendly but keep them on a leash. Watch for snakes in the hot months (rare, but sometimes you'll see them.) Plenty of trails to get in a good workout. If you're looking for something more difficult, go to Hood Mountain. If you're looking for something easier, check out Crane Creek down the road, or Sonoma Valley Regional Park outside Glen Ellen. Enjoy!

Google
Great park with well maintained trails shaded by beautiful oak trees. There is nice/moderate elevation gain on most trails so be prepared with some water & sunscreen if it’s warm out. The park is very popular especially on weekends and the parking lot fills up fast so get there early. Many people walking their dogs and a few mountain bikers as well.🤗

Google
A great open hike with many different opportunities for different fitness levels plus this park is dog friendly!! This was a very busy park but you still felt like you were out hiking alone at the same time. There were numerous routes that ranged from a slow incline to very steep ones so people from all fitness levels are able to enjoy the prettiness of the area. Our favorite part was the super friendly cows that came right up to us and then followed us a part of the way. It was definitely the curious young ones who did but our dog even enjoyed getting up nose to nose to them. Definitely watch out for the big poop mounds along the trail but it was still fun. A great moderate hike.

Google
Fantastic hike to the summit. First time here and loved it! Look forward to coming back and seeing the views from the summit, unfortunately we had fog roll in and could not see the landmarks at the top. The park has something for everyone, disk golf , horse back ridding, hiking. All skill levels. Parking is $7.00.

Google
Moderate hike, well worth every bit. I love the scenery. Trees, birds, lizards, and cows! The cows are my favorite part. They were so comfortable with me.

Google
Such a beautiful park 😁. Parking is 7$ can pay with cash or card. We took the Western trail and went off trail a bit to go up the mountain and found this bench where we saw the sunset! It’s easy to achieve high altitude in short time :)

Google
Loved this hike. It took about an hour to do a loop. Saw lots of cows and some really nice views. The parking area is a little sketchy. When we were leaving the cops were arresting some guy. So probably don't leave anything visible in your car.

Yelp
I've been hiking here for many years yet not in a while as there were not enough trails for my liking. Today my friend and I checked out a few new trails and were pleased with having more choices. I do wish there was more signage but grateful we had a screenshot of the map. Be mindful of snakes- we had a close encounter with one today! Wonderful views from this mountain.

Yelp
To reach the Taylor Mountain Summit, opted to climb via the 2.5 mile 'Sky Lupine Trail'. The difficulty level is 'somewhat difficult' due to mostly there being a cobbled path, with large sized gravel present throughout; there is steep incline at some points and one needs to traverse carefully. It took us about 3.5 hrs to complete the journey at a moderate pace. The views throughout the trail are worth the hike. Recommend to give it a try!

Yelp
Taylor Mountain is a beautiful hike, and not recommended for those who are not "hike-minded." I'm not sure of the exact route, or "name" of the route, we took, but it was steep in both directions!!!! Going down was hard! Make sure you're wearing good hiking shoes!! And, bring lots of water!! BUT, it was still a really good hike and my heart was happy (and relieved!!!) after we were done. Taylor Mountain has MANY trails, and I've only done one hike, here. So, if hard-core isn't for you, my understanding is that there's something for everyone here! Give it a try, but please do some research, first. Oh! They're building new trails, too, so keep looking for updates!

Yelp
Gorgeous park and walking path with a natural kids playground on one side. Sweeping views of Santa Rosa, and well maintained trails. Creeks and streams along the trails, simply beautiful!

Yelp
Upsides: The scenery is really great, you get to see a lot of animals, beautiful overlook of the city, multiple trails, you get your steps in. Downsides: Very steep for people who can't handle it, you have to pay $7 dollars for the parking, it gets really muddy so you might slide and fall. Might visit again and give it another try when it doesn't rain for a whole week because it gets really muddy and slippery so the experience wasn't really enjoyable for me.

Yelp
Great place to be quiet and enjoy the hike. The views are spectacular. Remember to bring water.

Yelp
I want to add this Note: On this day, May 17th was my Stepdad's Birthday. (Both he and my mom died 3 weeks apart after the onset of CV-19. Our family never had a chance to have a Celebration of Life.) Ben Strickland was a Native American Cherokee and his father taught him the Art of Divination, and Ben taught me. Ben became World renowned. I came here to Taylor Mountain to Honor his life. This Ceremony was sabotaged by 9AM, when the Park Ranger booted me out, and to never return again. (And YES, I had PAID when I first entered at 8AM. I suppose if my name was Musk, or Gates, or Exxon or Buffett, that these hypocritical people and contradictory Rules wouldn't have applied to me on this day. (I have been here many times before in my RV). I was told by this same Park Ranger, (last time) to park only in this designated location, The Horse Parking Area. This was a weekday and the lot was entirely empty. See photos. RIP DAD, RIP Happy Birthday Ben

Yelp
It's just a walk in the park! Especially since they recently created some new trails and eliminated the cardiac arrest section. Scenic views of Santa Rosa throughout. Bring a lock or a bell to place at the top fence and don't forget to touch the official "peak" aka mound of rocks. Quite a few benches to rest if needed. Only bio breaks are at the trailheads. Dogs allowed on a leash. There's a parking fee so get your county pass out instead. Friendly cows throughout- less friendly cow pies if you slip. There's a rad disc golf course there too! Please practice leave no trace principles in the park. :)

Yelp
Sat 3/20/21 hiked at Taylor Mtn OSP, Santa Rosa. We wanted to start at Kawana Terrance Entrance - left turn, but instead I turned right and ended up at Petaluma Hill Rd entrance. Petaluma Hill entrance has the kid playground and 3 parking lots. $7 for day parking pass, no senior discount. We did all the trails and little more cuz instead of going up a trail w/ no sign we went down, then had to go back up to the no sign trail to get to Western Trail & summit. There is a labyrinth on Western Trail where u see lots of rocks on the left. Kawana entrance has big parking lot and the disc golf and 2 water tanks. Saw wildflowers late March 3/20/21. Worth going if you are in Santa Rosa.

Yelp
My go to spot for years. Lots of great views, hills, shade, sun and all in our own backyard

Yelp
This is a a lovely park and there is plenty of room to spread out away from people. The paths are clearly marked and there are various distances to choose from. The $7 parking fee is reasonable and all day. I was fortunate enough to see a few lizards zipping around and chipmunks sunning themselves. There are cattle that roam there, and a there is a place for them to drink. It was the reset I needed. I saw various hiking levels of trail too, from easy to moderate. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
What a spectacular local spot for an amazing hike. The entrance was a bit hard to find (for us,) so I'm not quite sure on what side we started but it was foreshadowing to or what a challenge this hike would be for our beginner group. Myself included. :) With determination to reach the top or Taylor Mountain and ring the celebratory bell, we STILL took time to stop and "smell the roses" along the way. Such beauty everywhere! The views of Sonoma County were stunning on this cold, clear, cloudy day. We watched for wildlife (and cows!), stacked rocks, climbed trees, and raced up small inclines. In other words, we had fun on this hike. I encourage everyone to do the same! From my perspective, this was a challenging hike and pushed the envelope for beginners (like myself) but we made it and felt GREAT. Advice: just don't rush, and don't give up. Views from the top are worth it! I'm ready to go again!

Yelp
Love to go disc golfing here. This is one of the most beautiful places to play. There is a probability you might lose a disc . There is a parking fee so make sure you get a ticket so you don't get a ticket .
google avatar

Number 10 ..

Yelp
Pretty decent workout and incline. We went before the sun came out and it was very dark, had to use the flashlight on my phone for a few parts. Overall, good place to come and get your heart rate up.

Yelp
Really beautiful there, went to little dog park hour. Nice group there with a variety of littles. Had a nice walk at peace garden. Maybe they could give little dogs 2 hours. Just as they were all making friends, people arrived with big dogs. Would make it more worth the drive with traffic and all.

Yelp
I would give this place 3 stars due to it being crowded in the parking lot and the trails are fire trails with no tree covering. If you go here, I would go to this park on a day that it isn't warm outside or go early in the day in order to avoid the heat and crowds. There is a steady incline on many trails, which can feel brutal on the fire trails in the heat. This park has a $7 parking fee unless you have a Sonoma Regional Parks Pass. The view from the top is a nice view and you can bring your four legged friends since it's dog friendly. They have a disc golf area as well. I like that this place has so many different trails and so much open space. I just wish that more trails were shaded to have a more enjoyable hike.
google avatar

Melanie K.

Yelp
I've come to this park for hiking numerous times and it has amazing views and you actually get a decent workout if you hike to the top. What I didn't know about this park was that they have an entire side dedicated to play disc golf! A coworker of mine invited me out last Friday and little did I know, we would be hiking around while playing the game. It was an absolute blast. I met a bunch of awesome people, learned a new fun and interactive game, and enjoyed a beautiful sunset. I can't wait to go back and play again! Oh, and they're dog friendly !

Yelp
After driving by the west entrance many time, I finally got myself into Taylor Mountain Park. Parking at the west entrance off Petaluma Hill Road is pretty good. You can hop on the trail right there. The day I came it was cold and windy, so I opted for the short Red Tail loop. It is 1.2 miles of moderate hills. The hardest part was right at the beginning where you are gaining some pretty good elevation in a short distance. The trail was pretty clean and easy to follow. The views, even from the easy trail, were great. The only down side was that I could still hear traffic going. Oh well. I'd like to do to the longer trail all the way up Taylor Mountain sometime. That will require more than just an hour. Recommended.

Yelp
A Santa Rosa gem | Dog friendly | Panorama views This was such a great find on The Outbound Collective site (I just joined, add me if you want!). This hike is really close by to the major shopping area -- Best Buy, Costco, REI, etc. Very popular trail. Great for beginner to intermediate hikers. Tons of disc golfing opportunities out here! Roundtrip is 3 miles. It took us 2 hours, but we hiked it a bit fast, so allot about 2hr 30 min for stops and enjoying the view. At some points it can get steep going up, but take your time, no rush! Enjoy the views on the way up and down. Sometimes I'm looking at the ground watching my step, or getting lost in my own thoughts, that I forget to look up and take in the view. This trail is very exposed with a couple of spots providing shade, so highly recommended to do this on a cloudy day or earlier in the morning. Be careful with some spots having poison oak in shady areas at the base of oak trees. PARKING: Park for free right before turning into the designated parking lot, it will be on the left side. Otherwise, if it's full, you'll pay a fee at the designated parking lot, where the Western trailhead starts. Port-o-potties at the parking lot. Map and info available. Dog bags available. (pick up after your pet, please!) **There are cows out roaming throughout this trail. I was petrified when I saw a bull look up at me, and I was only about 50 feet away. He had some pretty sharp horns! Anyway, keep your pet close. They didn't seem to be bothered by humans, but I just got scared seeing the bull because he seemed to take notice of us lol

Yelp
Taylor Mountain regional Park is a great place for half day hike. I recommend starting early because not much of the trail goes through the woods so you're out in the sun for most of the time. This hike is a bit intermediate so I do recommend bringing a pole if you're not comfortable with the steep rocky trail. There is a bench once you reach the top of the mountain where you can sit and overlook the city below. This trail is definitely busy and is dog friendly! The trails are marked pretty well but it can get a little confusing at times better markers would be nice but you should be able to back track if you make a mistake or just ask someone else on the trail ! Up and down its about 4 miles or so. There is a few shorter loops if you are not up for tackling the whole thing. This trail sits next to the taylor mountain disc golf course another great attraction!

Yelp
I would usually say short and sweet but other than the views not much is "sweet" about the hike up this hill. Maybe the burn you get and awesome ass as a result, otherwise it's a bit brutal for the faint of heart. I run hills often and recently hiked with a friend up here thinking "I got this". Well, I mostly had it. I griped a few times over the crazy steep incline in parts but 80% is a steep rolling incline with incredible views of Santa Rosa/Rohnert Park. There are snakes so just watch your step in addition to the usual suspect of critters. Parking is either before the park for free alongside the road or if you want to park closer you can park in the fee lot. The climb is a short climb at less than 2 miles to the top, but you earn those 2 miles up! There are a few spots to sit and enjoy the view mid climb but the best pay off is at the top. There is a historical rock wall that is gated off but noted to share its old and don't touch it. I'm curious the history there; if a sign is going to be there stating to stay off historical rock wall a little more history would be cool.

Yelp
fairly easy hike! beautiful views! there's parking nearby that you don't have to pay for.

Yelp
I really love hiking, but I'm a tad bit lazy about it, so I tend to not go if I have to drive far to do so. This is why even though the majestic Armstrong Redwoods are in the same county that I live in, I've only hiked through their beautiful canopy once. This is also why I really love Taylor Mountain. Easily accessible just off Petaluma Hill Road, Taylor Mountain is Santa Rosa's biggest, and most visible secret. Parking is a little rough, as some people park at the bottom of the hill so that they don't have to pay park fees to leave their car while they hike. Also, the parking areas are shared by Taylor Mountain and the peripherally located adjacent Frisbee golf course. That said, I've never had a problem finding parking, and am more than happy to pay to park and help contribute to the beautiful trails that I enjoy so often. My recommendation, after hiking most of the paths at Taylor Mountain, is to start from the parking lot, and hike south on the west most trail. This is a winding, picturesque, and slow ascent, versus the trail that starts on the east side which is a vicious and almost death-defying near vertical climb which could intimidate the most seasoned and cardiovascularly talented hiker. I over exaggerate just slightly. Either way, they both reach you to the top of the hill, overlooking the entire city expanse of santa rosa, and at twilight or daybreak, this will change the way you see this urban sprawl forever. As always, I recommend you travel in numbers, for safety reasons, and always pack your valuables out of sight while you're hiking. I've never had someone break into my car, but I've heard of others who have, so err on the side of caution. That said, if you're in the area, and have the urge to hike but you're on the lazy side about finding trails, head out on the super short drive from the city's center to uncover this not so hidden gem.

Yelp
The March visit on a brisk day was exhilarating! Cows, dogs, humans, lots of open space, stunning views of the cities below and green grass with mature live oaks scattered hither and yon. This is a great place to get some fresh air and exercise. Walked to the top of the mountain. You may do yourself a favor by keeping on the trails because they meander with the contour of the hills rather than tear off straight up the mountain as most people go. Walking the trails - and the contour - will be easier on the knees and better on the environment... and it's much more scenic. If you have a dog, bring it on a leash. Tip: Park outside the park and save a few bucks.

Yelp
I hiked this park a few times when it first opened but went back to Foothill Regional and Shiloh Regional for my "daily" hike routine. With the recent Kincaid fire shutting down both parks for a few weeks I hiked Taylor Mountain several times and for the most part came away impressed. Parked at the Kawana Terrace entrance. There is a porta potty on site, a large parking lot and a frissbee golf course for those interested. There are two options in hiking Taylor Mountain. The Western route takes you through the grazing land of cattle that are still on site. It sounds crazy but is actually quite refreshing that the Park, People and Animals can coexist easily and happily. There are many switchbacks on the Western route as you gradually make your way up the mountain. It is a good hike, somewhat strenuous but doable for most people. Your other option is to go the Eastern route which essentially goes straight up to the top. This route is strenuous for all hikers. Keep in mind that going back DOWN the steep Eastern route can also be strenuous and difficult to manage because of possible slippage. Just want to let people know the full scope of the hike. If you have limited hiking experience I suggest you first hike the Western Trail. Both routes offer very little shade, dress appropriately especially in the warm summer months and bring water. You will go through plenty of water getting to the top. The reward is a spectacular view of Santa Rosa and beyond. Foothill and Shiloh are both more convenient to where I live but will head down to Taylor Mountain to mix it up on occasion.

Yelp
What a hike! My hiking partner and I have been trying to hit all the Sonoma County hike spots this year, and this has been both our most challenging and our favorite. Not overly crowded, and just gorgeous views. I read that this was considered an intermediate hike- though as it pretty much went uphill for an hour, without a lot of reprieve, I might enhance that rating a bit! Sure felt it afterwards, too. I'll be back!

Yelp
You definitely get the full "Sonoma County Effect" when you get to go hiking with cows. This lovely Sonoma County Regional Park offers hiking trails through the hills of Cowland. This park has 2 entrances. One off Kawana Spring Rd that leads to the main parking lot. And one entrance off Petaluma Hill Rd. The trail from the main parking lot goes straight up. And then straight down. If you have knee trouble, going downhill at this park can be rough. There also isn't much shade if much at all. The entrance on Petaluma Hill Rd is a very short one mile loop that does have quite a share of ticks. No matter how hard we try, we still pick up ticks on us and our dogs. It is very shaded and rather pretty under the trees. From this loop, you can also loop on to the Western Trail that brings you to the other part of the park to get to the top of the mountain. Taylor Mountain also has Disc Golf. And a much nicer course than Crane Creek. The disc golf here is pretty epic. There are Porta pottys in both parking lots. Watch out for ticks and foxtails in the summer. And there is tons of mud and very hard to hike in the winter. Bring Mudd boots.

Yelp
Nice hike! Dog friendly. Picnic table access is easy. Parking is a breeze. Two hike route options.

Yelp
Best disc golf course in the area. Nice hiking trails for a variety of levels. Always kept clean.

Yelp
This was one of the funnest regional hikes we've taken. Pristine nature. Let's hope it stays that way. They've done a great job here of manicuring nature while hiding what they've done. I didn't see a single sawed limb. There are free wandering cows here. And most of them stare at the hikers with a passive indifference. Parking is going to be aweful. It works for now. But if this place gets better word of mouth, this is going to suck. They're not set up to take much more than 40 cars. And the trails aren't set up for more people than that. Since this is on a hillside where there have been many historic quarries, I'm concerned about erosion here and what this park will look like in 20 years. But, a fun dog friendly (LEASH ONLY) place. A new gem in Santa Rosa.

Yelp
Beautiful views, beautiful views, beautiful views. The Eastern Trail (which goes to the top, ~2mi) is very steep but you also have the option of taking switch back trails for the steepest parts. Unfortunately, we hiked on a spare the air day so we couldn't see quite as far as we would have liked. Still though it was worth it. Half way down we decided to cross over and finish on the Western Trail which was less steep and found a little valley with less overlooks - still very nice. We took our 6 & 8 year old kids for what ended up as just over a four mile hike - if they can do it without complaining too much, you probably can too. A couple things to keep in mind: 1. Parking is $7 unless you have the Sonoma County parks pass ($69 for 13 months from purchase date, so worth it). Also in Sonoma County fashion, there is free parking just outside the gate. 2. From the lot the Eastern trail is around the other side of the water towers. 3. Very little shade and the only seating we saw was a picnic table at the lot. No memorial benches or tables on the trail... yet (it's a new park). Happy hiking!

Yelp
This was such a fun hike, despite the accident we witnessed my first hike here. The weather was great, a bit chilly, but the view was spectacular. We took 3 dogs with us, a pug, an aussie, and a doberman mix and they all did great. To get to the top there is a steep path and a less steep path, my group members chose the steep path (I kinda wanted to die looking at the uphill climb), it ended up not being too bad. I would definitely recommend wearing a good pair of shoes to not lose your foot hold, a man fell and had to be emergency air lifted during our hike. Also, there is a lot of poison oak and it looks like prime real estate for ticks. Before you leave they even have a sign for tick checks. Other than that, totally worth the hike. For being a local hike, I think this is definitely a 5 star!

Yelp
Parked for free off kawana springs (?) road (off of Franz Kafka road). Not sure why people think this area is so sketchy; a lot of people were parked along the road for free and I didn't see anyone's vehicle broken into. Took the Eastern Trail (next to the big water tank) and although there's a bit of an incline, the views of Santa Rosa, Bennett valley, and Roehnert park are gorgeous after just a mile or so of walking. This is one of my favorite hikes in Sonoma county so far and well worth the walk up the hill! Panoramic views of the entire valley await you! Also, be nice to the cows! Give them space and don't let your dogs off leash to scare them. They deserve to graze in peace.

Yelp
Went on a post lunch hike with our dogs here today. It was a nice hike with beautiful views and wasn't too far from town. The trail is wide and flat and well maintained. The park has free range cattle on it so there is cow $h!t everywhere. The views of the Santa Rosa area are spectacular. I'd love to see how the views look on a hot summer nite or on a day with a beautiful sunset. I will definitely be coming back here!!! Also this is a good spot for mountain biking.

Yelp
We love this area! The trails & all the nature you'll see along your walk is just amazing & breathtaking. We've walked all over with & without our dog. Cows everywhere, just avoid the pies. Fun trees & other photo props. If you're into Geocaching there's a few places inside the park. A few times we've brought a huge cardboard box & I've pulled my little one down the hills. Make sure you bring a water bottle. Hands down, my favorite out door place to go within SR city limits!

Yelp
Beautiful trails for walking and running. Two different entrances available that connect with a trail. Disc Golf Course seems active, although I haven't played. Clean port-a-potties available at both entrances. Great open space views as well as wooded/creek/shaded areas.

Yelp
My husband and I have come here twice. The first time was in 2016, we got a good way up but we went when it was hot and we didn't have enough water so we had to head back. We swore we would try to go to the top another time, we tried again and still haven't made it. LOL I think we are just too out of shape but we still want to try to make it to the top, just maybe do it when it's colder? Well anyway, this mountain is awesome!! I love the walk and there are so many paths one can take, beautiful nature and a wonderful view of the city. We will try again, =)

Yelp
By far, one of the best hiking trails in Sonoma County! Used the new entrance off of Petaluma Hill Road which has a $7 entrance fee, but it is worth it because it's a newly paved, roomy parking lot- much better than the other sketchy parking option off of Kawana Springs. The trail going up the mountain is a nice gradual climb until you get to the almost tippy-top where you definitely need strong quads and will power to get to the vista point. The view was breathtaking and worth every step. Oh, and the cows!! There was a plethora of them grazing happily in their fields. Super adorable. I will be back and will probably be getting a regional parks pass so I can support the local parks and visit as often as I please.

Yelp
Came here after researching dog friendly hiking areas and this place isn't too bad, nice quick little escape, close to town. Visited on a Saturday in May, and it didn't seem too crazy crowded. I didn't realize the parking situation until later but driving in, cars lined the road so I pulled in when I saw an open spot, which there were plenty of. But there's a parking lot up closer, where you pay to park versus a little walk to free parking. There's a few porta potties in parking lot. This area is filled with rolling hills, spring flowers and cows - watch out for cow pies! I decided to hike the loop here, and wander off to peak and back to loop which was a good hike, 1,000 ft gain (it gets pretty steep in places!) and all in all just over 4 miles. Not much shade walking the loop and only a few areas of decent shade on the way up to the top, no real good resting stops but eh. I noticed a lot of poison oak in shaded areas. And I hate to say it but climbing to the top is really only worth it to burn a few extra calories, it literally just dead ends at a rock pile. Sure, maybe there's a decent view but nothing too impressive. All in all this is a nice local place, with some good hiking. Next time, I plan on hiking other trails off the main loop / trail. There's also a disc golf course here, too. And just a heads up I picked a couple ticks off dog, be sure to check!

Yelp
Beautiful park with extensive trails Only down side - the the brisk rude ranger/meter maid who snapped at us for not paying before using the restroom . A little customer service and a smile go a lot farther than a snarky pissed off assumptive confrontation If she hates her job - go get a different one Seems prime material for the DMV

Yelp
Disc golf, miles of interweaving trails, and friendly grazers make this one of the best regional parks in sonoma county

Yelp
I love this park because it's a difficult hike. It can get crowded but I try to come early and you beat the crowds. The trails can be very steep, but the views make up for it. It's truly beautiful. I also love that there are cows all over the trails. They kind of scare me but I also think they are awesome. Another favorite part of this park is that dogs are allowed. There could be a couple more trash cans along the trails but other than that I can't think of anything to improve here. It's nice to have a park that is a bit more challenging in the area. I wouldn't bring children here though I've seen plenty of people hiking with their little kids. Make sure to bring lots of water and I wouldn't go in the middle of the day unless you want to get your sweat on!

Yelp
I tried out the new Redtail trail recently which just opened up in June. It's at the new Petaluma Hill Rd entrance to the park. It was a nice, stimulating 1 mile hike that has pleasant views of the valley below. I tried to also go on the connector trail that links up to the Western Route up the mountain, but there was a cattle fence that was padlocked closed preventing me from going on the other trail. I don't know why it was padlocked closed, since the two trails are part of the same park. Maybe it was for the holiday weekend? I supposed I could have hopped the fence, but it didn't seem worth the effort to me. Anyway, this is a nice less-intensive hike if you just want get out for some fresh air. It still has quite a bit of hiking up and downhill so you should avoid it if you have knee issues (which I do but I just ignored them for the sake of the hike). Also, be warned, there is no street parking near the Petaluma Hill Rd entrance. You have to pay the parking fee of $7 to enter the park.

Yelp
First time visitor to this Disc Golf course. Free parking is located at the bottom of the hill (+1 star), while the closer/top of the hill parking is $7 daily - we parked at the bottom and utilized the walk uphill as a light warm up. Hole 1 tee is right next to the fence entrance and practice basket - easy to find (+2 stars). We only played the front nine which were fun short holes ranging from 150'-350' with some trees, downhill/uphill/canyon shots. Gorgeous valley views, good amount of shade, most have easy-to-read tee signs, rubber mat tees, and some have tree stump chairs (+1 star). Overall, fun course and highly recommend for beginners. Will definitely play the entire 18 next time I am near Santa Rosa. Russian Brewery is only 12 minutes away (+1 star). For anyone visiting the San Jose area, hit up Hellyer or Kelley Park - www.svdgc.org.

Yelp
Incredible 3 hours spent roaming around this park! I followed Sheila M's instructions and went up the less steep Western trail, looped all the way up, saw a rattle snake bathing in the middle of the path, slowly strolled down the Eastern trail (very steep, I could roll down the hill easily). As the carpark was full when I arrived, I parked just below the frisbee golf area and walked into the park. The scenery is wonderful, people on the trail are friendly and helpful and it is the perfect place relax.

Yelp
This park is perfect for intermediate to advancing mountain bikers. It has trails for hiking, biking, and everything in between! (Even though there's not much in between; it also has its limits) My favorite trail here goes all the way to the summit, and it perfect for high speed down, and has techy sections as well as smooth singletrack. There are also some fun rock "features", if you look hard enough. Cattle graze here at some times during the year, but they just make the views better. At multiple points along the trails, you can see the entirety of Santa Rosa. For much of what I've ridden here, it was steep up and steep down. At some points, I had to carry the bike out of grade severity, but those bits were the most fun to go down at speed. I would suggest bring lots of water, and have a few layers. Another thing: make sure your back tire has enough tread before riding here. Personally, I enjoy skidding around, but for some of the uphill bits of the trail I was using, my tires could not grip the ground. Although, my tires are now almost completely smooth, so that may have played a role. If you have kids, going to the Petaluma Hill Rd. entrance and using the small park there is also fun. Now that you have read this review, go send it.

Yelp
Great views at this park especially if you make it to the top of the peak--you can see both Bennett Valley and the Rohnert Park/Santa Rosa areas. We've only come in through the Kawana Springs entrance so I can't comment on the Petaluma hill road entry way. There are porta-potties available in the gravel parking lot but no running water available that I can recall seeing. There was also a picnic table right off the parking lot near the porta-potties, but personally I would recommending bringing food and beverages and hike up somewhere until you get a view and have a picnic. There are not further picnic tables or benches available along the trails so I recommend bringing a picnic blanket if you mind sitting directly on the ground. I recommend going up the Western trail as it is less steep and coming down the Eastern Trail if you want to make a loop of it. There's a disc golf course area near the Kawana Springs entrance. I've never played this course so I can't comment on it.

Yelp
Taylor mountain is so beautiful and peaceful! I love running here! There's always people there playing disc golf. Usually always cows around just wandering freely. It's $7 to park in the parking lot or free to park at the bottom and walk up.
