Here’s What to Expect at Ethel’s Fancy, Palo Alto’s New Restaurant From a French Laundry Alum | Eater SF

"In Sacramento’s Land Park neighborhood, I report that Taylor’s Kitchen shut down permanently as of July 28; the owners cited staffing issues and a reconsideration of the business model, though the restaurant’s retail extension, Taylor’s Market, will remain open." - Paolo Bicchieri

My BF and I went with another couple on their reccomendation. The ambience is very nice and the staff is super friendly. I got the mushroom soup, pork chop, and shared the 3 scoop sorbet. My BF got the scallops. My pork chop was a good size and delicious. The scallops were done excellently, but there only 3 with a garnish-like side. The other couple got The pork chop and a vegetarian pop over thing. He also got the warm mushroom salad. He said they were both terrible. They had eaten there a number of times before, but were embarrased about the food that night. The prices are quite expensive for what you get. 2 appetizers, 4 dinners, 2 glasses of wine, 2 desserts was $280. We will probably not be going back.

Staffing, services, food, and vibe is superb. The dry aged NY was so good with their spread on top. Would definitely come back.

Totally worth it in every sense. The craft is totally apparent and the love for ingredients is clear. What a tremendous summer choice. It's also not so loud and a relaxed atmosphere with a spacious footprint. We stayed too late to check out Taylor's market next door, but next time I guess. Yes it's all local and the meats are really special.

Unfortunately our experience did not live up to expectations based on reviews. The gnocchi were dry with some blobs of blue cheese and a few pomegranate seeds scattered around. Our other appetizer with braised carrots and beluga lentils was good. If you are not a meat eater the entree pickings were limited to a dry scallop preparation. We had sea bass that they graciously offered to bring in from their shop immediately adjacent to the restaurant. Unfortunately it was rubbery, undercooked and cold. The dessert - apple bread pudding for two - was also underwhelming. Informed that the metal pan was very hot we did not anticipate that the dessert would be cold and as uninteresting with a lot of bread and a few slices of apple on top. Lots of delicious cinnamon however. Very nice and attentive staff but the kitchen unfortunately just didn’t live up to our expectations.

I love this place and dine here every week. The food is always delicious no matter what I order. The atmosphere is so nice and waitstaff is friendly and attentive. I sit at the kitchen bar to watch the chefs work their magic. 4 stars because the entrees can be pricy and parking is not the best as it is a busy intersection.

We haven't been here in over 2 years and it's only improved. Every dish was perfect, the staff was wonderful and the wine selection just right. Highly recommended!
